Great Purchase. Totally satisfied.

The sound produced by the Devialet Expert 220 Pro is spectacular when paired with my KEF R-7 speakers. The SAM speaker correction works beautifully and extended the bass response on the KEF's from 30Hz down to 22Hz. The internal phono preamp is totally configurable to the exact cartridge that you are using. Paired with my Technics turntable and Ortofon 2M Bronze cartridge, the Devialet produces a smooth, crystal clear sound with an excellent wide soundstage. The Expert Pro is easy to use once you configure it. For digital music, I use Roon, and with Roon, all you have to do is select the music and press play, the Expert Pro automatically wakes up and starts playing. I am totally happy with my purchase.
Pros: Configures exactly to your speakers, lowering the bass response. The phono preamp configures to your exact phono cartridge. Easy to use, e.g. start up and select source. Great Roon integration.
Cons: The configuration process is a bit complicated at first. The first time you use it, it is best if you get help from the dealer or Devialet customer care. After one or two times using the configurator web page, it becomes second nature.

The Amplifier of the Future

I bought the Expert 220 Pro as part of transforming my sound system from being fundamentally analog to being fundamentally digital, including ripping my 5,000 CDs to an Aurender ACS-10. The Devialet is a superb piece of hardware but may be a puzzle for purchasers who think they are buying a regular old hifi amplifier. As often happens, the software lags somewhat behind the hardware. This is not to say that the Devialet is user unfriendly, more like user neutral. The SD memory card that one removes from the amplifier and puts in your computer's card reader so as to run the online configuration program is straightforward to use. You must realize, however, that you are programming the behavior of the amplifier and this is a long long way from the ideal amplifier being a "straight wire with gain" that I grew up on. So, if you're comfortable in the digital world you will probably love this unit and its spectacular sound quality, otherwise research it thoroughly before taking the plunge. (Another huge benefit for me is that my Gallo Nucleus Ref 3.5 speakers have been given a new lease of life from Devialet's SAM system which tailors the amplifier output to your specific speakers to improve their quality. I now have wonderful clean tight bass extending down to 17Hz!)
