Product Research

Features

Overview: The Soundtube CM400i is a 2-way, blind-mount, in-ceiling speaker featuring a coaxially mounted 4" woofer and a 1" tweeter in a drawn aluminum backcan and ABS baffle. The speaker features transformer tap settings for 25, 70, and 100 volt operation, and also includes a 4Ω bypass. Designed specifically for indoor background to mid-level SPLs, the CM400i is ideal for schools, court-houses, retail stores, hotels, conference rooms, and more.

Drivers: The CM400i features a 4" polypropylene woofer with a rubber surround along with a 1" convex titanium tweeter with FerroFluid cooling, all mounted in a ported aluminum backcan enclosure. This combination delivers high efficiency and performance across the operating bandwidth with a frequency response of 90Hz - 22kHz (-3db). Able to handle up to 20 watts RMS (40 watts Program power) and with a sensitivity of 87 dB, the CM400i can provide clear powerful sound with a coverage angle of up to 95˚ (averaged from 2 - 10kHz).

Enclosure: The CM400i is housed in a drawn aluminum backcan with a ported ABS plastic front baffle providing added musicality with a bass response down to 75Hz (-10 dB). Soundtube's BroadBeam Ring technology offers extended midrange clarity and ultra wide off-axis performance. The speaker includes a painted steel-mesh grille that can be painted to match the room color and includes an attached safety restraint lanyard. The grille is magnetically held in place on the speaker, making installation and removal easy. The CM400i enclosure carries both UL1480 and UL2043 certifications and is CE and RoHS approved.

Mounting: Installation of the speaker is done blind-mount using a constant-tension fixed-wing mounting system. Two winged assemblies come pre-mounted to each side the speaker. Once the speaker is slid into the ceiling opening 2 Phillips-head screws on the front of the speaker are tightened. This expands out the mounting arms providing tension on the backside of the mounting surface. The CM400i can be mounted to ceilings ranging in thickness from 0.025 to 1.87 inches, including drop-ceilings using the optional Tile Bridge. A secondary attachment point is provided on the back of the speaker for an additional safety line (not included).

25/70/100 Volt: The CM400i can be used in 25, 70, and 100 volt applications and includes a built-in 20 watt transformer along with a 4Ω bypass selection. A tap selection dial on the front of the speaker allows for easy configuration without having to remove the speaker from the ceiling. The following tap settings are available:

  • 25 Volt: 0.4W, 0.7W, 1.3W, and 2.5W
  • 70 Volt: 2.5W, 5W, 10W, and 20W
  • 100 Volt: 5W, 10W, and 20W
  • 4Ω

Terminals: A 4-teriminal Euroblock connector on top of the speaker is provided for wiring connections. One set of terminals provides the signal input while the other set provides a pass-thru for daisy-chaining multiple speakers. Each terminal can accommodate speaker wire up to 10AWG in size and includes a set-screw to hold the wire firmly in place.
