Year-to-year changes in TV models are usually barely noticeable, but not this time. Samsung's 2018 QLED 4K TVs outperform their 2017 counterparts in virtually every way. The 55" QN55Q7FN's picture has about 20% higher contrast and much higher peak brightness, compared to last year's model. It also offers more versatile connectivity, and simpler controls, including a new intelligent voice assistant.
Samsung continues to refine the quantum dot color technology in their QLED TVs. They found a way to tune the output of the quantum dots so that they produce purer reds and greens, allowing the TV to cover nearly 100% of the P3 color space — the standard for digital cinema and HDR movies. QLED TVs can reproduce over a billion shades.
The QN55Q7FN also gets high scores for "color volume." Color volume is a way of measuring color performance that factors in picture brightness. Most TVs lose some color accuracy as the picture gets brighter. But QLED maintains full color accuracy and saturation at any brightness level. Colors pop like they do in real life.
When most people get their first 4K TV, their first taste of 4K content comes from streaming services like Netflix® and Amazon Instant Video. Nearly all of their original series are produced in 4K and many also feature HDR. Of course, the best available 4K source is a 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player. Hollywood continues to release hundreds of movies on Ultra HD Blu-ray, and most of those discs will also be HDR-enhanced.
If you don't have access to native 4K content, don't worry. You'll still be knocked out by the QN55Q7FN's picture. Samsung's engineers made 4K upconversion a top priority while developing this set's video processing circuitry. Q Engine video processing automatically upconverts any signal to match the screen's 4K resolution. All your current video sources will look better than ever.
If you're after a clutter-free look, Samsung's Q7FN series is a great way to go, especially if you want to wall-mount your TV. Instead of connecting your Blu-ray player, cable box, and other video sources to the TV itself, you connect them to the compact One Connect Box switching hub, which comes packed with the QN55Q7FN. A single super-thin cable connects the hub to the TV screen, supplying all video and audio signals, as well as power. Imagine having just one cable running to the TV!
Samsung's slender OneRemote is one of the smartest remotes we've seen. It automatically detects, identifies, and controls your connected devices and content. Use the OneRemote's microphone to access Bixby, the TV's built-in intelligent voice assistant. Bixby makes it easy to change channels, search for content, or even ask about the weather, using only your voice. Just click voice recognition on your remote or smartphone, and Bixby is at your command.
Use the Sanus MountFinder™ to see a list of wall-mounts that work with your specific TV.

Excelent image. Easy to install, and friendly remote control.
Pros:
Cons:
Bought this along with the Yamaha ysp-2700. After trying several ways of configuration, the best way was to run the cable tv HDMI cable through the tv, not through the sound bar. The Bixby would not work running the cable through the Yamaha. Everything works, great picture, great sound.
Pros: Everything works with Sound bar
Cons: Requires patience and experimentation when setting up with sound bar.
Easy set up and an amazing picture.
Pros:
Cons:
I love the clarity of the picture using standard mode. The setup was easy with the connect box . ARC was new to me and it gives me better control over my Bose Accoustimass 10 series which I purchased from Crutchfield in 2010. I will continue to check out the other features on the TV. Overall I made a great choice upgrading from my 2010 Samsung TV to the QLED 55.
Pros:
Cons:
I finally decided to upgrade my 09 40 inch Samsung to the 18 QLED 55 inch Samsung. Impressive and impressed. You can't go wrong with this baby.
Pros:
Cons:
Wow-what a picture. And that is first what a TV is about, ARC provides better audio control with various devices. Not real impressed with the "Smart ". Component but that may be moreof a function of my time to explore and fully configure that feature.
Pros:
Cons:
Wow! What an awesome TV. The colors are really bright and vivid. The blacks and whites are really black and white. The sound is good compared to my Samsung UHD. The rimless screen is nice. Good clean look. The One Connect box makes it an easy hook up. I got the No Gap Wall Mount to go with it. Makes installation really quick. You can adjust the tilt and the level of the TV after it's mounted.
Pros: Stunning color, good sound, easy wire hook up, edge less screen, light weight
Cons: I hate the Smart Hub. Other than that not a thing.
Excellent color sharpness very simple remote great way to simplify your life and enjoy the finest picture..,the best support I've experienced with any company!!!
Pros: Nothing but pros with this set..
Cons: None.
A good TV. I have had a few questionalble problems, as below. 1. For no reason, the TV went in to an OFF position in the middle of a movie I was watching. Had to shut off TV and switch it back on. (there were no heavy clouds or rain at all. 2. 4-5 times, while watching a movie, the screen just Froze. Had to switch channels and go back to what I was watching. I am planning to call "Teddy" at Crutchfield Store but have not been able to reach him yet. ** other wise, I like the TV. (I have bought all of our tv's from Crutchfield over the years and all have been SAMSUNG.
Pros: Very Good picture.
Cons: * Sound a little weak, as opposed to other 3 Samsung's we have. * As in my comments above, I am worried about these things happening again. Can they be fixed ??
Love it. Great picture.
Pros:
Cons:
If your planning on using a sound bar,dvd player or anything else with this tv good luck. The new "one box" will not recognize anything hooked up half the time and Samsung says you have to turn on other devices first so tv will recognize them (defeating the purpose of one remote). There's an entire forum about this from angry consumers.Sending mine back immediately.
Pros:
Cons:
This tv has an amazing picture. The colors are very bright and clear. The built in speakers are more powerful than my 2016 Sony 4K tv. I would highly recommend this tv.

QLED TV: Samsung's QLED TV utilizes Quantum Dots along with Samsung's Q-Engine to produce an immersive viewing experience with a wide range of color, exceptional contrast, and accurate detail. Quantum Dots are nano-sized, cadmium-free, finely tuned particles that turn light into the brilliant billion plus colors you experience on QLED TVs. Quantum dots are inorganic particles that resist wear out, so you can enjoy superb picture quality for years. As some TVs age, you may see that colors are less vibrant. QLED TVs are built to last and provide a vibrant picture even after long periods of time. Samsung's metal alloy quantum dot pixels feature inorganic materials that are engineered for durability and resistance to fading.
Q-Engine: Samsung engineers developed the exclusive Q-Engine, a powerful processor that optimizes your content for 4K clarity, color, and HDR in real time.
Q HDR Elite: Q HDR Elite was created by combining Samsung's QLED and HDR10+ technology to give you a wider range of brightness and contrast, bringing all the picture nuances to life. As a result, you'll see colors in movies and shows that "pop", just as the director intended-in stunning high dynamic range (no more details hidden in the shadows).
Ultra Color, Contrast, & Viewing Angle: The Samsung QLED TV provides ultra color and fine steps of gradation through its 10-bit LCD Panel, delivers ultra contrast for whiter whites and blacker blacks through UHD dimming and Ultra Black Elite technology, and offers an ultra wide viewing angle so every seat in the room has an optimal viewing experience.
HDR (High Dynamic Range): The Samsung QLED TV features the ability to provide a premium High Dynamic Range (HDR) experience, with a higher level of contrast between light and dark images. HDR delivers a much higher level of contrast between light and dark to produce an image that is more realistic and closer to what the content creator imagined. This increased contrast reveals the subtle nuances of the image, from detailed blacks and shadows to the brightest whites and colors, plus greater depth. In addition to supporting the standard HDR10 format, the Samsung QLED TV also supports HDR10+ and HLG; as well as HDR+.
MR 240 + Auto Motion Plus: The Samsung QLED TV combines its 120Hz native panel refresh rate with Samsung's proprietary MR 240 & Auto Motion Plus image processing technology, which is faster and more responsive than conventional image processors, as it interpolates intermediate frames to smooth out the image. MR 240 & Auto Motion Plus helps to remove blur and judder from scenes with large amounts of rapid movement to provide a clearer picture. MR 240 & Auto Motion Plus reduces blur so that action movies, sports and video games have enhanced clarity. Advanced panel and unique backlight technology combine with proprietary algorithms to reduce the response time and yield a more accurate image reproduction with faster onscreen motion.
HDMI 2.0b Inputs: The Samsung QLED TV is equipped with four HDMI 2.0b inputs (located on the One Connect Box) to connect to your Blu-ray player, Satellite/Cable receiver, Game Console, and/or AV receiver. Any HDMI input can also be used to connect a PC to this TV. All HDMI inputs are 4K compatible, HDCP 2.2 compliant, and support 4:4:4 color subsampling. Please use a premium high speed HDMI cable with 18 Gbps and above to view 4K HDR content.
Notes: This TV does not contain analog composite or component video inputs.
Picture Controls: You can make the following adjustments for an optimum picture. The TV's picture adjustments can be made for a particular AV input or for all inputs.
Built-in HDTV Tuner: The TV features a built-in over-the-air HDTV (ATSC) and Clear QAM tuner, so you don't need a separate set-top box to receive and decode over-the-air HDTV/SDTV or unencrypted Digital Cable signals (up to 1080i); subscription still required to receive cable channels. A single RF-type coaxial input is use to connect an external indoor/outdoor antenna (sold separately).
ARC (Audio Return Channel): The Audio Return Channel within the television's HDMI 4 input (located on the One Connect Box) enables the TV, via a single HDMI cable, to send audio data "upstream" to an A/V receiver; increasing user flexibility and eliminating the need for any separate S/PDIF audio connection. This feature allows audio to be sent from the television to your A/V receiver through the same HDMI cable already being used to send audio/video to the television. This eliminates the need for extra cables connected to the TV. ARC allows audio from the TV tuner, Network connection, inserted USB device, or HDMI inputs to be heard through your ARC compatible AV receiver via the television's HDMI ARC input.
Note: Both the television and the receiver must support ARC for this function to work properly. When connecting an A/V receiver that is compatible with Audio Return Channel (ARC), connect it to the TV's HDMI 4 input. If connecting a system that is incompatible Audio Return Channel (ARC), an additional audio connection via Digital Audio Out (Optical) is necessary. The TV's speakers are muted when using ARC function.
Optical Digital Output: The TV's optical digital output terminal (found on the One Connect Box) will output Dolby Digital (when available) or 2ch PCM. The digital optical output terminal only sends an audio signal in Dolby Digital when receiving Dolby Digital surround sound from a digital broadcast channel through the tuner, network apps, HDMI inputs, or USB ports. When the TV's optical digital output is selected, the TV's speakers are muted. DTS multichannel audio formats are not supported.
Note: This TV does not contain any analog audio inputs or outputs.
Equalizer: You can manually adjusts the TV's built-in 7-band EQ (100, 200, 500, 1k, 2k, 5k, & 10k Hz) for a more customized sound; or simply choose from the following EQ Preset Modes - Standard, Optimized, or Amplify.
Audio Delay: The Audio Delay function corrects audio/video mismatch, when watching TV or video, and listening to a digital audio output using an external device such as an AV receiver. You can adjust the audio delay from 0ms to 250 ms.
