About the Samsung LN55A950
The Samsung LN55A950 perfectly demonstrates why Samsung has become one of the leading manufacturers of high-definition LCD televisions. It combines 1080p screen resolution with an intelligent backlighting system to deliver a breathtaking high-definition picture. And the Touch of Color cabinet blends honeycomb-patterned gray into the gloss black frame, transforming an already stylish TV into a work of art.
LED backlighting for high-contrast, natural-looking images
The LN55A950 employs Samsung's SmartLighting technology to deliver much richer blacks than most other LCD TVs. Unlike a conventional fluorescent backlight which needs to remain on at all times, the SmartLighting system positions an array of bright white LEDs behind the LCD panel. Different clusters of LEDs can be controlled independently, from full-on brightness to completely off. The ability to turn the light source off allows the SmartLighting system to deliver much deeper black levels than a conventional fluorescent backlight. SmartLighting also dramatically improves picture contrast, expanding the range of gray tones from absolute black to brilliant white. Images on the LN55A950 have tremendous punch and impact, along with colors that look more nuanced and natural.
A consistently smooth, detailed picture
Videophiles will also appreciate the "Full HD" 1080p screen resolution. With more than twice the number of picture-forming pixels as 720p TVs, this set makes it easy to see all the details in every high-definition TV show and movie you watch. Samsung's Auto Motion Plus 120Hz technology reduces smearing and "motion blur" by doubling the conventional frame rate. The bottom line: detailed images that remain crisp and clean no matter how hectic the on-screen action gets.
A wide array of HD-capable connections
This set gives you four HDMI inputs and two HD-capable component video inputs that make it easy to hook up high-definition satellite receivers, cable boxes, and video game consoles. The HDMI inputs can accept 1080p24 (1080p video recorded at 24 frames per second), for smooth, cinematic images from high-definition Blu-ray Disc players. If you have a broadband Internet connection, you can get up-to-date news, weather, and stock quotes via Samsung's InfoLink RSS feeds.

More details on the Samsung LN55A950
Features & specs
LED SmartLighting: Samsung's LED SmartLighting with local dimming technology allows for an amazing 1,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, and ultra-sharp blacks. The LED backlight also provides more natural color representation. This technology uses LED Local Dimming which allows multiple LED backlights within a single screen to turn on and off automatically to adjust the picture quality depending upon the screen. This LED backlight system produces contrast with stronger blacks and whites and greater subtlety of every gradation in between.
ToC (Touch of Color): Samsung's new Touch of Color design features a hint of charcoal gray naturally blended into the traditional piano black frame of the Samsung 950 Series LCD televisions.
HDTV Tuner: The TV has built-in over-the-air HDTV (ATSC) and Digital Cable (QAM) tuners, so you don't need a separate set-top box to receive and decode over-the-air HDTV/SDTV or unencrypted Digital Cable signals.
Native Resolution: The television has a display resolution of 1920 x 1080. The HDMI and component video inputs will accept 1080p, 1080i, 720p, 480p, and 480i signals and scale and display them as 1920 x 1080. The television features a full HD 1920 x 1080p digital format converter for all inputs.
Ultra Clear Panel: Samsung's Ultra Clear panel provides a bright, clear, colorful and overall more vibrant picture. The Ultra Clear Panel technology enhances contrast and reduces reflection so you can enjoy an overall outstanding viewing experience.
Contrast Ratio: This TV has an 1,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, giving you brilliant brightness and contrast for superior picture and detail from both PC and TV images.
Auto Motion Plus 120Hz: Auto Motion Plus 120Hz technology virtually eliminates any motion blur and creates smooth transitions between frames. Auto Motion Plus calculates the image between frames and inserts it, creating a non-repetitive transition from one to the next; the result is a clearer picture.
4ms Response Time: Response time refers to the amount of time it takes a pixel to refresh itself-to go from being active to being inactive (ready to be re-activated). The lower the time, the faster the response time. The 950 series 4ms response time virtually eliminates any blurring and gives you smooth-motion action scenes
Digital Natural Image Engine (DNIe): Samsung's DNIe makes input signals sharper, clearer, and more lifelike. It's advanced image processors and six-times density enhancer help to create true-to-life colors and high contrast, while virtually eliminating digital artifacts. DNIe is made up of a Motion Optimizer, a Contrast Enhancer, a Color Optimizer and a Detail Enhancer to produce life-like images that rival reality.
