More details on the Samsung Galaxy Watch3
Overview: The Samsung Galaxy Watch3 is a sleek smartwatch that does much more than tell you the time. It can help you track and reach fitness and health goals by monitoring your activity, sleep, and heart rate. The device connects to your smartphone via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi for enhanced functionality through the Galaxy Wearable app. The built-in rechargeable battery lasts 2 to 3 days on a full charge. The Galaxy Watch3 comes with a Qi-compatible wireless charging pad, and is covered by a 1-year warranty.
Design: The Galaxy Watch3 uses the Tizen-based Wearable operating system and user interface with an Exynos 9110 Dual Core 1.15GHz processor. It has a 1.2" Super AMOLED color display with a resolution of 360 x 360 pixels. The device features a silver stainless steel case, a black bezel, and Gorilla Glass DX crystal lens, and is fitted into a 20mm-wide, adjustable stitched premium leather band. On the back of the unit is a heart rate sensor with eight photodiodes that monitors your heart rate during exercise or for calculating your stress level. The watch also has an accelerometer, gyro, barometer, and ambient light sensor. The Watch3 has 5ATM water resistance and IP68 water and dust resistance ratings in military standards testing (MIL-STD-810G). The watch has a Water Lock mode which disables the touchscreen, wake-up gestures, and the watch while you exercise in the water. The touchscreen responds best to a light touch from the pad of your finger, and recognizes tap, swipe (vertically or horizontally), rotate, and drag actions. Dimensions: Case: Diameter-1.709", Depth-0.602"; Band: Width-0.703" Length-9.625"; Weight-2.05 ounces.
Rechargeable Battery: The built-in 247mAh rechargeable battery gives you approximately 43 hours of battery life with typical use. The Watch3 charges wirelessly in the included Qi-compatible charging pad, which can be plugged into a USB port (Type A) with output of 5V and at least 150mA of current. No charging time data was given. You can also charge the watch using Wireless PowerShare and a compatible Samsung smartphone with at least 30% remaining battery life. Simply enable PowerShare on the smartphone and place the watch on the back of the phone to begin charging.
Bluetooth / Wi-Fi / NFC: The Samsung Galaxy Watch3 is equipped with Bluetooth version 5.0 for connecting the device to your smartphone, or to an optional headset for playing music. The watch has A2DP, AVRCP, HFP, and HSP profiles. It also has Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n 2.4GHz) for connecting to a local wireless network. The watch can communicate with another device through Near Field Communication (NFC) without connecting to a network. This allows you to make payments or purchases through certain apps, like Samsung Pay.
Galaxy Wearable App: The Watch3 works hand-in-hand with the Galaxy Wearable app on your smartphone. Using the app you can customize the look of the Watch3 with over 50,000 watch faces with different colors, styles, and the amount of information displayed. The app also helps you locate your Watch3 by making it light up and vibrate. The Galaxy Wearable app is compatible with Android devices 5.0 and up. For iPhone (iOS 9.0 or later), you should download the Galaxy Watch app.
Bixby: The Galaxy Watch3 lets you use Bixby, a digital service that helps you launch functions with your voice, or provide you with information. Bixby can help you manage your calendar, alarm, timer, contacts, date/time, messages, phone, reminders, and other settings. It also works with Samsung Health and SmartThings. You must be connected to a Wi-Fi network, and you must be signed into your Samsung account to access Bixby.
Samsung Apps: The watch works with Samsung Apps, either preloaded or downloaded to your device. Some of the apps that are preloaded include Alarm, Bixby, Calendar, Contacts, Find My Phone, Galaxy Store, Gallery, Messages, Music, Outlook, Phone, PowerPoint Controller, Reminder, Samsung Health, Samsung Pay, Settings, Spotify, Stopwatch, Timer, Voice Recorder, Weather, and World Clock.
Samsung Health: The Samsung Health app provides a means to manage your fitness and overall wellness. The app lets you check your oxygen levels (SpO2) with a simple measurement. You can set goals for exercise, steps, and running. It automatically tracks seven popular activities, including running, walking, cycling, rowing, elliptical training, dynamic workouts, and swimming. As you run, the device can help you maintain your pace. The watch automatically recognizes activities or workouts after 10 minutes and begins recording your activity. The recording will deactivate if you stop exercising for more than one minute. To help you meet your goals, you can compete with other Samsung Health users by viewing your step count on a leaderboard, or challenge each other to reach goals. The Samsung Health app's Women's Health section can record and track your menstrual cycle.
Samsung Health Monitor: The Health Monitor app can record and track your electrocardiogram (ECG) measurements, analyze them, and share the results with experts. The watch records ECG for 30 seconds, similar to a standard single-lead ECG. The ECG Monitor app can check for signs of Atrial Fibrillation, a common form of irregular heart rhythm.
Sleep/Stress Management: Another aspect of the Health app is its sleep and stress management. The watch uses a built-in sleep algorithm to detect when you fall asleep and wake up. When you sleep, Watch3 can record the amount and quality of sleep, including the number of hours of REM sleep, light sleep, or deep sleep, and calculate a nightly sleep score. The watch also uses the wrist-based heart data to calculate and record your stress level at regular intervals. When needed, it will lead you through breathing exercises to alleviate stress. The watch will automatically alert you if it detects an abnormally high or low heart rate.
Food/Water: The Watch3 can help you keep track of your calorie intake from food. After eating, you can enter the type of meal you had and the number of calories consumed. At the end of the day, you can compare your total calories consumed to your daily calorie target. To keep hydrated, the watch allows you to record and track how many glasses of water you drink each day.
Music: The Galaxy Watch3 has the ability to play music that is stored on your smartphone, or imported to the device, and listen with optional Bluetooth headphones. If you prefer to keep your music on your smartphone, you can control it using the music controller on the watch. Controls include play/pause, rewind, fast forward, and volume/mute. Other options include shuffle, repeat, add to favorites, audio output, set as ringtone, and delete. If you choose to leave your smartphone behind as you exercise, you can import music to the watch's 8 GB built-in memory. In addition to playing music files on your watch or phone, you can access music and podcasts from Spotify.
Location Technology: The watch uses location data from several global satellite positioning systems to give you pinpoint accuracy. Not only does it use the US-based GPS (Global Positioning System), the Galaxy Watch3 accepts data from GLONASS (Russia), Galileo (European Union), and BeiDou (China). In the menu, you can calculate your location via GPS and Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi only, or GPS only.
