About the Quad VA-One +
Bring out the magic in your music
Bring out the magic in your music
The vacuum tubes on Quad's VA-One + integrated amplifier are not just there for show. They provide a warm, relaxed analog sound, even when you're using a digital source. And I can't deny that I love its mixture of classic and modern design — it just looks good sitting on a desk.
The VA-One + puts out 12 watts per channel, which might not sound like much, but it's enough power to drive a pair of bookshelf speakers and fill a room with music. The full-sized headphone jack on the front panel lets you enjoy that same sweet sound quality without disturbing others.
Easy on the eyes and ears
You don't have to be a nostalgic audiophile to be won over by this amp's retro charm. Anyone can enjoy the comforting glow of its seven vacuum tubes while listening to a favorite album. Choosing a tube amplifier is an aesthetic choice, for visual appeal, and for high-quality sound.
Analog, digital, and wireless input
No matter how old-school the VA-One + might look, it's thoroughly modern in connectivity. There are three digital inputs on the back panel: one USB Type B, an optical, and a coaxial input for connecting digital components. The high-resolution 24-bit/384kHz digital-to-analog converter inside makes those sources sound their best.
An RCA input is ready for connecting your turntable's phono preamp, an outboard phono stage, or any other analog component you want to use. Wireless convenience is at your fingertips via built-in Bluetooth® with aptX® encoding for high-quality music streaming from compatible devices.

Features
Vacuum Tube Amplifier: The VA-One+ is equipped with a total of seven vacuum tubes to deliver a natural, immersive sound. The preamp section features an ECC83 triode for the preamp section, and two ECC82 triodes in the driver and phase splitter sections. Four EL84 pentodes are for each channel in the output stage in a push-pull configuration, which delivers 15 watts per channel (into 6 ohms) or 12 watts per channel (into 4/8 ohms), enough to drive efficient modern speakers to ample volume levels.
Note: Tube amplifiers require a "warm up" period of at least 15 minutes prior to use for best sound quality, and to prevent damage to your equipment. Also, an extended "burn-in" period of at least four hours, and preferably, twelve hours, is highly recommended before you first use it. More information on warm-up and burn-in can be found in the included Owner's Manual.
24-Bit/384kHz DAC: The VA-One+ employs a 24-bit/384kHz DAC (digital-to-analog converter) with support for high resolution audio.
Bluetooth Audio Streaming: Built-in Bluetooth A2DP gives you the freedom of wireless connectivity for your smartphone, tablet, or computer. You'll be able to wirelessly stream audio from your Bluetooth source device to the VA-One+. The VA-One+ also supports the aptX codec for higher quality wireless audio for select Bluetooth-enabled source devices. A 3.5" Bluetooth antenna is included, and connects to the rear panel, for best reception.
USB-B Port: The VA-One+'s USB-B port (1.1/2.0 compliant) allows you to listen to digital music files stored on your Windows PC (7/8/10) or Mac (OS X) computer. The unit supports PCM and WAV music files up to 24-Bit/384kHz. A Windows PC will require a separate USB driver that can be downloaded from the Quad website. A 5' USB-B to USB- cable is supplied to make connection between the VA-One+ and your computer.
Optical & Coaxial Digital Inputs: The VA-One+ is also outfitted with an optical (toslink) digital input and a coaxial (RCA) digital input that supports 2ch PCM music files up to 24-bit/192kHz. The digital inputs do not support multichannel audio formats such as Dolby Digital and DTS.
Stereo RCA Input: The VA-One+ is equipped with an analog Aux input which consists of stereo RCA jacks for connection of an external analog audio device. If you want to connect a turntable, you will need an external phono preamp (sold separately - see Accessories Tab) or a turntable with a built-in phono preamp.
Binging Post Speaker Terminals: The VA-One+ provides binding post terminals to connect your speaker wire and your speakers. The binding post terminals will accept bare wire (up to 12AWG), pin-connectors, spade-lugs, and banana plugs (single only).
1/4" Headphone Jack: The Quad VA-One+ features a front-panel 1/4" headphone jack for connecting a set of headphones. The unit's speaker outputs will be muted while headphones are connected.
Simple Control: The VA-One+ has a large motorized rotary volume knob on the front panel. Source selection consists of three push buttons for the Bluetooth, AUX, and Digital inputs. The Digital Input button allows you to cycle through for selecting the USB, coax, or optical sources. The main power switch is located on the back panel. The unit also includes a small, simple wireless remote control. The IR remote can control power, speaker mute, source selection, and volume. It is powered by a CR2025 battery (included).
