How it works

Place the record on the Record Doctor's platter with the side you want to clean facing up. Apply cleaning fluid with the supplied brush, then flip your record over, switch on the built-in vacuum, and rotate your record by hand using the included record turner until the lower record face is dry. Now it should be clean and ready to play.

Q
Very pleased with the job this machine is doing. I am concerned about the drain. I ha?ve cleaned about 40 records so far, but every time I ha?ve removed the plug to drain it no liquid has come out. I have got hundreds of albums to go, but I do not want the tank to ?fill up. Is there something else I need to do?

I noticed the same phenomenon. I presume the liquid is vaporizing. After going through 4 oz of wash I recovered less than 1 oz of liquid. I'm not an expert on this unit, but I did disassemble it for other reasons and given the way it works it makes sense to me that a large proportion of the wash would get aerosoled ( don't think that's a word but you get my drift. )

You're not gonna see a stream of liquid pouring out when you remove the plug. And it really isn't recommended to do a ton of records at once. I normally do 1 or 2 every other day or 15 at once at most. Even then I saw no water come out. I leave the plug out at all times. I have read people have a problem with mold or mildew so leaving it off does the job and allows it to air dry between washes.

Q
Does the carpet/cloth part that is attached to the top of the Record Dr. ever have to be replaced because of wear, and if so how often?

A
I've cleaned about 200 albums so far and I do not notice any wear. I frequently brush it with a soft toothbrush before covering the machine for the evening. When Crutchfield gets the Record Doctor RxLP solution or concentrate back in stock I'll be adding a Record Doctor Sweeper Strip Kit to my order to have on hand if and when it does need replacing.

A
Yes, it does need to be replaced. Frequency depends on use. I've cleaned about 75 records and am get ready to replace it.

Q
Will this clean 7 inch 45 rpm records with a 1.5 inch wide hole?

A
Given the way the records sit on this and then the way the record turner sits on the very top of it all, you will be able to clean those records too.
