How to hang these suckers???
John from Falls Church on 3/17/2023
The speakers arrived, and I like them. However, hanging them on the wall will be a nightmare. I have a sheetrock wall with studs 16" apart, of course. These speakers are 15.5" wide, and 9.63" high, and they are supposed to be secured by two No. 8 round head screws (not included) protruding from the wall, 200 mm (7.87") apart. So, I plan to cut and paint four boards, 2.5" high and 18" long, to span the studs. One board at the top of each speaker, and the other one at the bottom. HOWEVER, the lower board must be 1/4" thicker than the upper board, because the small "housings" that accept the wood screws protrude 1/4" out from the back of the speaker. The boards will extend an inch past the speaker on each side ... not good. Guess I can trim it all out somehow. ALSO, the there won't be enough space behind each speaker to coil up several feet of heavy speaker wire. SO ... maybe 20 hours of work to hang them on the wall??? Yes indeed ... Ridiculous. Guess I could tear up the drywall and install blocking between studs. Also a pretty big project. I doubt the geniuses at Wharfedale ever hung one of these on a wall. How are walls built in England? The literature says to use "appropriate wall plugs". What are wall plugs? It also says to hang spkrs on the wall, and THEN connect the speakers to the amplifier ... HELLO?? Is anybody home? The speaker wire connects to each speaker at the BACK. So it must be connected before it's hung on the wall. Maybe I'll just send them back.

SSS = Surround Sound Spectacular!
David from Schenectady on 12/20/2022
Once again, the EVO line continues to amaze, with beautiful looks and outstanding surround sound imagery. Now, straight up, the EVO's (I don't care which model you get) need to be broke in, plain and simple. If you don't break them in, you will NOT realize the full potential of these. Its sort of like bringing home the new baby... a little bit of patients yields big rewards! Before installing them at home, I ran them gently night and day for two weeks at my office, brought them home and installed them on my Marantz SR7015 (2 pair; 4 speakers). I installed walnut floating shelves from UltraShelf on the rear and side locations, Ultra has a system that is engineered to hold heavy speakers like these. Using two screws to secure these monsters did not make sense to me. The surround sound imaging is WILD.... depending upon how its recorded, at times we thought the noise came from outside. Some live recordings via YOUTUBE put us right in the middle of the performance; like we were there in person. Replaced Bose 161's mounted in the walls - thought they were super, but EVO4.S's are a noticeable improvement. That being said, I see a lot of reviewers questioning the AMT tweeters, and I don't understand why. My center channel EVO is about 3 feet above the listening area, the 4.S's are about 7" above....and there is no issue with the high and mid frequencies - they are clear and accurate and they paint a beautiful spacious image. Love these, I know you will too!
Pros: Outstanding imaging, beautiful furniture grade cabinets
Cons: Heavy! Special Consideration for wall mounting

Amazing speakers!
Crutchfield customer from Titusville, FL on 1/18/2021
Simply amazing. 45 years of buying the best home theater equipment, and for years surround sound speakers with equivalent fidelity to front and center have been hard to come by without going to movie theater vendors. These are amazing, replacing JBL monitors, and then Boston Acoustics micro 90 (in an apt), now we finally have full range, full fidelity surround speakers again. Night and day difference! The power and dispersion are back in our theater! Amazed at what we were lacking before. Love them in 9 channel stereo for killer music. Simply buy these, you will not regret it! They joined Martin Logan ESL X, ESL Center, and 2 ML subs, plus Energy Dipole sides to round out an amazing sound stage, of course powered by Macintosh through Yamaha preamp! We keep making up excuses to listen and watch again. Huge proof, the dirgible scene in Indiana Jones Last Crusade. And of course the Matrix trilogy. We are rewatching all the classics because of what these speakers added to our sound stage!
Pros: Absolutely fills the room with full fidelity surround! Amazing craftsmanship!
Cons: None
