About the Andover Audio Songbird
Small streamer delivers big time
Small streamer delivers big time
The Songbird is small enough to set up out of sight and powerful enough to unite your streaming audio sources.
The Songbird network music player from Andover Audio gives you an amazingly flexible high-resolution — and high-value — streaming platform.
You can be up and running with this streamer inside of five minutes. And it's small — a little larger than a tin of Altoids — so it's easy to tuck it out of the way.
Make it easy on yourself
The Songbird literally talks you through the straightforward setup process with spoken instructions from its app via your system, so it's easy to start enjoying streaming audio right out of the box. And its onboard DAC really punches above its weight, with up to 24-bit/192kHz resolution from Tidal and Qobuz plus support for other popular streaming platforms including Amazon Music and Spotify®.
Connect to the internet via Ethernet or Wi-Fi. Then go into the user-friendly Songbird Control app for Apple® and Android™ devices to manage your music — whether from streaming services or local files the Songbird discovers on your home network. You can also use Apple AirPlay to control the Songbird.
Flexible but simple inputs and outputs
A handy set of connections gives you flexible setup options. The Songbird connects to your existing home audio system via optical digital audio or analog connections — a 3.5mm stereo jack on the back panel, with an included cable that adapts it to RCA stereo. An optical digital input lets you use this little streamer as a DAC and add another audio component to your system, which you can then select and/or control using the app.
In another scenario, you could plug the Songbird's analog output into powered speakers and connect a turntable with a preamp to its analog in, and a CD player to the optical input. That would give you a simple, high-value, three-source system. You can toggle through streaming, vinyl, and CD inputs either by using the front-panel button or from within the app.

Wireless Music Streamer: The Andover Songbird is a wireless music streamer, letting you add network connectivity with access to Internet Radio, select online music services, AirPlay, and DLNA to the Andover Model-One Turntable Music System (sold separately) or other audio system that lacks network connectivity. The Songbird also offers built-in Bluetooth, plus analog & digital audio inputs. The Songbird easily connects to your existing audio system or powered speaker via line-level analog or optical (toslink) digital. System Requirements include -
- A 2.4GHz WiFi router supporting the 802.11 b/g/n bands.
- An Apple iOS 10.0+ or Android OS 5.0+ device connected to your WiFi network with the Songbird Control app installed.
- An audio system or powered speaker that accepts line level analog (Aux) or Optical (toslink) digital input.
24-Bit/192kHz DAC: The Songbird wireless music streamer employs a 24-bit/192kHz DAC with support for a variety of music files including MP3 (320kbps), WMA (320kbps), AAC (320kbps), ALAC (24-bit/96kHz), FLAC (24-bit/192kHz), and WAV (24-bit/192khz). The Songbird's analog output will transmit up to a 24-bit/192kHz audio signal to your existing home audio system, while its digital input will down-mix Hi-Res audio (including 24-bit/96kHz and 24-bit/192kHz) to 16-bit/44.1kHz when sent to your existing stereo system. The Songbird is limited to 16-bit/44kHz audio transmission when multiple Songbirds (up to 5) are used to create a wireless multiroom audio system.
Wired or Wireless Network Connection: The Songbird offers wired (Ethernet) and wireless (WiFi) connectivity to your network router and ISP. The Songbird features a rear-panel Ethernet (RJ45) LAN jack for a hardwired network connection. It also features built-in 2.4GHZ WiFi (802.11 b/g/n) for a wireless network connection.
Songbird Control App: The Songbird wireless music streamer requires the use of Andover's Songbird Control app (for Apple iOS 10.0+ and Android OS 5.0+). The Songbird Control app on your compatible smartphone or tablet devices lets your stream Internet Radio and select online music services from the Songbird to your connected home audio system. The Songbird control app lets you select your music content, manage your stations and presets, setup multiroom audio with other Songbird music streamers, as well as control volume levels and playback.
Internet Radio & Online Music Services: The Songbird gives you access to a variety of Internet Radio and online music services such as Qobuz, Spotify, Tidal, Amazon, iHeart Radio, and TuneIn. Tidal & Qobuz provide up to 24-bit/192kHz Hi-Res music streaming, while Amazon offers up to 16-bit/44.1kHz music streaming. The integration of Spotify Connect will enable Spotify Premium users to instantly select and wirelessly stream music to the Songbird from within the Spotify app (Apple iOS or Android). Other compatible musics services provide much lower resolution music streaming. Some services will require paid fees and subscriptions. Other music services may be added in the future.
AirPlay Compatible: AirPlay lets you stream your favorite songs directly from your Apple iOS (4.3.3+) device or from your iTunes (10.2.2+) library on your Windows PC or Mac computer to the Andover Songbird over your home's wireless network connection. From your Apple iOS device you are able to stream stored music on your device, downloaded music apps, and music on your iCloud to the Songbird. From your Windows or Mac you can stream your stored iTunes music library on your computer to the Songbird; you can even download Apple's free Remote App onto your compatible iOS device to browse and control playback functions of the music stored in your iTunes music library on your computer that is being streamed to the Andover Songbird.
Note: The Andover Songbird does not support Apple AirPlay 2.
DLNA Certified: Because the Songbird is DLNA certified, you can play back music files stored on your Windows PC (Windows Media Player 11 or 12) or a DLNA compliant media server through the wireless music streamer. Supported digital music files include MP3 (320kbps), WMA (320kbps), AAC (320kbps), ALAC (24-bit/96kHz), FLAC (24-bit/192kHz), and WAV (24-bit/192khz).
Bluetooth 2.1+EDR: The Andover Songbird is equipped with built-in Bluetooth 2.1+EDR with support for wireless audio streaming (A2DP). You'll be able to wireless stream stored music, music apps, and other audio content from your Bluetooth-enabled smartphone, tablet, desktop computer, or laptop to the Songbird. You'll still control music playback and view song/artist/album info from your Bluetooth source device. You can pair multiple Bluetooth devices with the Songbird, but only one can be connected and used for playback at a time.
Analog & Digital Inputs: In addition to Network and Bluetooth connectivity, the Songbird wireless music streamer is outfitted with a stereo minijack (3.5mm) analog audio input and a optical (toslink) digital audio input. The optical digital input supports 2ch stereo PCM audio up to 16-bit/44.1kHz (not compatible with Dolby Digital/DTS).
Analog & Digital Outputs: The Andover Songbird wireless music streamer is equipped with a stereo minijack (3.5mm) analog audio input and a optical (toslink) digital audio input to connect to your existing home audio system or powered speakers. The 3.5mm analog output will deliver up to 24-bit/192kHz audio from the Songbird's internal Hi-Res DAC (digital-to-analog converter) to your existing stereo system. The Songbird's optical digital output will down-mix Hi-Res (including 24-bit/96kHz and 24-bit/96kHz) to 16-bit/44.1kHz to your existing audio system.
Multiroom Playback: Up to five Songbird music streamers may be wirelessly linked together for synchronized play from a network audio source (including Internet Radio, select online music services, AirPlay, and DLNA). The same music source will be played back on all Songbird wireless music streamers. Hi-Res music sources (including 24-bit/96kHz and 24-bit/192kHz) will be down-converted to 16-bit/44.1kHz. Local sources (such as Aux, Optical Digital, or Bluetooth) can also be linked to other Songbirds in multi-mode, but they will not be time synchronized due to the inherent delay of WiFi.
USB/AC Power Adapter: The Songbird wireless music streamer comes a 25" microUSB-to-USB cable and external USB/AC power adatper that will need to be plugged into an AC power outlet or surge protector (sold separately - see Accessories List).
Firmware Updates: Firmware updates are distributed to the Andover Songbird through a wired or wireless network connect via Songbird Control app (for Apple iOS or Android OS). The firmware update will appear in the app when it's available to download.
