Dual CS 429
Darrel from Concord, CA on 1/27/2023
I was looking at Turntables on Crutchfield website last month and noticed this Dual Fully Automatic three speed turntable. I wanted a fully automatic 3 speed turntable (which are hard to find) so I can play some old 78 rpm records that once belonged to my parents from the 30's and 40's. I knew right away I wanted this turntable; it was on sale at the time so I ordered one. I'm very happy with my purchase. Setting up was fairly easy; it didn't take long before I had it up and running. I really like this turntable. I prefer Audio-Technica cartridges so I purchased the AT VM540ML, and the AT VM670SP for 78 RPM records, and ordered an extra Headshell from Dual
Pros: Three Speed Fully Automatic Dual Looks and Sounds good.
Cons: None

I have owned many high end turntables. This is the nicest sounding table I have ever owned. Low noise no vibration just a total problem solver if you are struggling with noise and hum from feedback.

Dual CS 429
John from Tequesta, FL on 11/25/2022
Very nice turntable. I retired my mid level Yamaha turntable 30 years ago and have played CDs or just streamed music. I've got 200+ albums, some of which are 40+ years old. I've cleaned the records, bought a few new ones and have enjoyed the listening experience immensely. Its deeper and warmer than CDs or streaming. And the albums are just fun to handle and listen to. The Dual turntable works great. The Ortifon Red cartridge is pretty good quality. Setup was easy. I'm very happy with this turntable.

Dual Turntable
Hyunsook from Apo, AP on 11/1/2022
Great product. Very stable and quite. Easy to set up and operate. Had a Dual 704 back in the 70's and was totally satisfied. When you get as old as I am, you appreciate not having to lower the tonearm manually and then get back up at the end of the side. Crutchfield is one of the few companies that will send to us deployed overseas, and provide advice. Thanx for the service.

Smooth operation
Richard from Alpharetta, GA on 10/27/2022
This is my third Dual turntable with the prior turntables dating back over 40 and approaching 50 years for the first Dual. Much progress has been made and this latest example is excellent. The sound quality is clear even with ancient albums dating back 40 or more years with the supplied cartridge and the automatic operation reminds me of the earlier Dual units. Setup was relatively easy including checking cartridge alignment and setting tracking force. Total time to unpack and assemble and use the Dual CS 429 was approximately 2 hours.
Pros: Fast delivery from Crutchfield Excellent automatic operation Great sound quality Very quiet operation
Cons: None at this time

Be Careful Setting Tracking Force
Roy from Gainesville, GA on 10/26/2022
I would have given this turntable 5 stars except for the difficulty in setting the tracking force. After three calls, I reached a person at Crutchfield (Dee) who had encountered this issue on setting up his own turntable. He walked me through the exact procedure and the turntable performed as I had originally hoped. I would suggest that Crutchfield ask Dee to write up the exact procedure to correctly set the tracking force and provide it to anyone who buys this turntable. The instructions provided by Dual were not quite specific enough for me. Perhaps they would have been fine for someone who has owned a number of different turntables over a period of years. Since this was only the third turntable I have owned, I needed a bit more direction. I would give Dee 5 stars. I had originally called to return the turntable but he guided me to give him specifics on exactly what my problem was and then patiently walked me through the steps. The difference in his directions and the Dual instructions had to do with turning the counterweight and the dial for the tracking force (i.e., together or separately).
Pros: Overall, seems to be a quality turntable
Cons: Would have preferred the option of having a wood finish on the plinth. Needed more specific instructions on setting tracking force.

A Fantastic Turntable
Kirk from Lincoln , NE on 9/21/2022
The Dual CS 429 is exactly what I was looking for in a turntable. I have 55 years experience with records and turntables , so I wasn't looking for a starter type unit. I wanted something fully automatic because I can't always be there when the record is done playing. This baby fits my needs. Not only that, but it looks great and sounds great. The Ortofon Red cartridge is a perfect match. Love the sound.
Pros: Too many to name.
Cons: None.

Quality Control Issues
Kenneth from Rockford, IL on 7/16/2022
Received Dual CS429 July 9,2022 on July 16,2022 unit malfunctioned. To be specific, the unit finished playing the record and returned tone arm to the cradle. I replaced the record pressed the start button the power lights on the switch panel began to flicker and the unit failed to respond to the start command. I turned off the unit turned it back on, and tried pressing the start button and again no response. I even detached the power cord waited 30 seconds hoping it would reset and still the same response lights flickering but no response the start or stop buttons. I'm very disappointed I would much rather be writing a 5 star review. I feel that I'd rather be inconvenienced than any future/potential buyers of this unit. This unit is built in China. I'm returning the unit and will purchase the Technics SL-1500C which is built in Malaysia.

A solid turntable
Michael from Reading, PA on 7/3/2022
A very solid turntable for the price. It replaced a Music Hall and I am happy with the upgrade.
Pros: A well made turntable.
Cons: The only fault I could find was that the on/off switch is on the back of the turntable. A bit cumbersome. Again, the only issue I could find.

Cheaply constructed
Rohan from Gainesville, FL on 6/6/2022
Extremely disappointed with the product. I wanted to upgrade to a fully automatic medium range turntable (TT) and I went with Dual's history and 5 star reviews. Received on time. This TT is "very cheaply constructed." The units seemed repackaged. The tonearm is straight, very light and unsteady -would fly even with blowing air. Per "Ortofon Red" suggested counterweight is b/w 1.6-2 GM, but with same amount of anti-skate, there was no way the tonearm would drop down to the records. Even with the higher counter weight and ant-iskate adjustment, the tracks would skip. The feet are not adjustable - so if you had the slightest bit of tilt on the table, you cannot level the TT, so I adjusted the table itself and leveled with no avail. With the Automatic function the arm would rest much before the tracks would start. If you did move the tonearm manually, it felt very light/flimsy on the tone arm lever. The Ortofon Red itself is very sensitive and mediocre cartridge. The built in pre-amp is reasonable. I have an Akai, belt driven, manual turntable from 2016. It is much well constructed and the tonearm is heavier with an AT cartridge. I have never had to adjust anything on it. The "customer service is great" and they tried to help. I am returning this product.
Pros: Automatic (Auto start and stop) Built in pre-amp Could play 33/45 or 7/10/12 Sound is reasonable Easy to swap out to Ortofon blue
Cons: Cheaply made in China Tonearm is straight, light and very sensitive Literally impossible to balance the tonearm Automatic function works but lands well before records would start Feet not- adjustable Cartridge mediocre

Another great Dual turntable
Lawrence from Englewood, OH on 4/22/2022
New turntable is up and running. Only issue I had was balancing the stylus, wasn't quite sure l was doing it correctly, l know I read the instructions 10 times. Figured I would put a record on it to make sure it worked. Must have done something right, the stylus raised up moved over and gently sat down. The sound is great, will have to compare it to my 1975 Dual 1229. Specially like the dust cover that is attached to the turntable, very easy to raise and lower. I now know I made the right decision to buy the Dual CS 429. I would also like to give a shoutout to Crutchfield, they made the buying and ordering very simple to do. Thanks again.
Pros: Basically very easy to put together, just follow the instruction manual.
Cons: None

Almost perfect
Richard from Mahwah, NJ on 4/22/2022
The Dual CS429 functions beautifully in auto mode and is very simple to set up. I would prefer the Ortofon Blue stylus for more detail and broader frequency but that is an easy upgrade. It seems to be well isolated from vibration and it is super easy to operate. I wish a holder for the 45 adapter was put on the base.
Pros: Easy set up and use. Sounds good and can be upgraded with just an Ortofon stylus change.
Cons: Design missing holder for 45 adapter.

Marvelous
Joseph from Dallas, TX on 4/1/2022
Just received this on Wednesday and am still breaking it in. I believe it takes up to 20 hours to break in a quality turntable similar to speakers. It sounds better today than yesterday. This thing sings and has a very warm sound. Enjoy the imaging the further I get away from it. The needle drop does seem slightly heavy regardless of the adjustments but I am very happy I bought this. This thing is so German the first 8 pages of instructions are in German. Love the ability to plug in your own RCA cables but most high end cables don't have a ground. I used the ground of the cables that came with it. Unless you want to spend 2K on something like a Marantz, you aren't going to find a nicer fully automatic turntable.
Pros: Sound, Quality workmanship, ease of putting together, interchangeable cartridge if you ever want to upgrade
Cons: Balancing the stylus took longer than I thought but the rest of the install was super easy

Dual CS 429
Roberta from Laurel, MS on 3/10/2022
This is the nicest turntable I've ever owned, and I thought it was reasonably priced. I especially appreciate that it can accommodate 78s with the turn of a dial and switching out the needle cartridge. I went with the fully automatic (which can be switched off) option as I have it placed in a low-light situation. So far, so good.

Awesome Automatic Turntable under $1000
Tom from Barnegat on 3/5/2022
It is a splendid automatic turntable for under $1000. I bought this to replace my Denon DP-300F and there is no comparison. It is better built, rejects external interference much better, it is much quieter, and it is easier to set up. It drops the tonearm much more gently, has a far better RCA cable that is not hardwired, and has a tonearm latch. It plays 78 RPM, which I don't know if I will ever use. If I do I need to get a cartridge that plays those. I am very glad I purchased this. Great improvement. The Ortofon 2M Red cartridge is excellent, but I may use my Grado Green instead. It is also an excellent cartridge but has 30 db channel separation vice 22 db for the Ortofon. Sounds great, babies your records, and is much better built than the Denon DP-300F.
Pros: Solid build, sounds great, gentle on your records, isolates external interference.
Cons: None at all.
