Overview: The HoMedics Infrared Ear and Forehead Thermometer (TIE-300-WT) offers an easy and convenient way to take temperature readings for your family. Reliable and accurate temperature measurements can be taken in-ear or on the forehead, with results in one second. The thermometer is powered by two AAA alkaline batteries (included). The thermometer is approximately 1-1/4" wide x 6-5/8" long, and 2-13/16" deep, and weighs 3.55 ounces (with batteries).
Measurement Methods: There are three methods of measuring temperatures. With the probe cover installed, the forehead temperature is recorded with the thermometer at less than 5mm away. The probe cover is removed and the probe is inserted for in-ear temperature measuring. To measure the temperature of other objects, installing or removing the probe cover does not affect the measurement. In all cases, you should turn on the power and select the measurement method prior to taking the measurement. You should press the measurement button for at least one second until the long beep sound is heard to complete the measurement. The result is shown in dot-matrix numerals on the thermometer's display.
Note: The beep sound can be muted, if desired.
Temperature Range: The TIE-300 can measure in-ear and forehead temperatures between 93.2° and 109.4° F (34-43° C). You can also measure the temperature of objects between 32° and 199.7° F (0-93.2° C). Temperature readings are measured to within a resolution of 0.1 °C or °F.
Accuracy: The temperature readings are accurate to +/- 0.4°F (between 95 and 107.6° F), and to +/- 0.2°C (between 35 and 42°C). Other temperature readings are accurate to +/- 0.3°C.
Display: Temperature readings are displayed in bright, backlit, dot-matrix numerals. The display also indicates the following with symbols: Memory Storage, Sound, Battery level, Ear temperature, Forehead temperature, or Objects measurement, and temperature units (°F or °C), The temperature readings are color-coded, based on the temperature range, to alert you of a fever:

Note: When the ear or forehead temperature reading is in the High Fever range, the thermometer will emit ten short beeps to alert the user of the presence of a fever.
Memory: The thermometer has a memory storage function with the ability to read and save 9 sets of measurement values.
Power Requirements: The Infrared Ear and Forehead Thermometer is powered by two "AAA" alkaline batteries (included). Estimated battery life with fresh batteries is approximately 5 years. To save battery power, the thermometer will turn itself off if not used for 30 seconds. A low battery warning appears on the display when the batteries need replacing.
