KLH Albany II in European walnut

Available in European walnut and black oak vinyl finishes

Can you hear a 10-year warranty?

The Albany II is slightly thinner and slightly taller than the original, but uses the same 5 1/4" woven Kevlar® woofer and 1" anodized aluminum tweeter to deliver nimble midrange, crisp highs, and distinct articulate vocals.  A new rear-ported bass reflex enclosure opens up the low end.  Removable magnetic grilles make it easy to appreciate the tight looks of the anodized aluminum tweeter faceplate and driver fascia, and the cool-looking woofer.  We are a little sad that the real wood veneer of the original Albany is replaced by your choice of walnut or oak vinyl finish, but you can't hear veneer — and you can't argue with the friendlier price tag.  Another feature you can't hear but which we love: a 10-year warranty.

Part of the Henry Kloss legacy

Like its predecessor, the Albany II is clearly rooted in Henry Kloss's elegant design heritage.  Kloss left his mark on several groundbreaking audio brands — Advent, Cambridge SoundWorks, Acoustic Research, Tivoli, and he was the “K” in KLH.  And while the Albany II wasn't designed by Kloss, we love the way KLH's present-day speakers pay homage to his innovative vision.

Part of a complete KLH surround sound system

Product Research

Two-Way Bookshelf Loudspeaker: The KLH Albany II is a two-way bookshelf loudspeaker featuring a high performance 1" Anodized Aluminum tweeter with a linear response faceplate and 5.25" Woven Kevlar mid/bass driver with butyl rubber surround for well-balanced sound. The 5.25" woofer also features a stamped steel driver basket and oversized magnet for superior control and output. A custom multi-element crossover with high grade components ensures smooth and natural transition between drivers.

Bass Reflex MDF Cabinet: The KLH Albany II features a bass-reflex enclosure with a rear-firing port for greater efficiency and bigger bass response. The cabinet features 3/4" MDF construction with custom designed internal low resonance driver chambers and bracing optimized through finite element analysis. The enclosure also has an aluminum tweeter faceplate and driver fascia to better control the dispersion of sound. The MDF enclosure is finished in a wood-grain vinyl (choose between a black oak or european walnut finish).

Magnetic Grille: A magnetic grille featuring a custom honeycomb design, acoustic cloth, and no visible fasteners provides a flawless appearance.

Binding Post Terminals: The KLH Albany II bookshelf loudspeaker is outfitted with 5-way binding posts terminals that will accept bare wire (up 12AWG), pin-connectors, spade-lugs, and banana plugs (singleor dual). There are braided tinsel leads on all drivers.

Applications & Placement: The KLH Albany II bookshelf loudspeaker can be used in a stereo or home theater application. In a home theater application, the Albany II bookshelf speaker can be used as Front and/or Surround speakers.

  • Placement of the speaker is a personal preference, but it is recommended that a pair of speakers be placed at least 6' apart whether they are being used for a stereo application, or as the main left and right channels for a home theater.
  • For best imaging and separation, listening distance from the speakers should be approximately 1.5x the distance the speakers are apart from each other.
  • Also, be sure that the speaker is placed at least 12" away from any wall. Further adjustments can be made to optimize your listening experience.

Mounting Options: The KLH Albany loudspeaker should be placed on stands (sold separately) or on top of bookshelves, preferably at ear level with listener. The included self-adhesive rubber feet add approximately 0.25" to the over height of the speaker. There is also a 1/4"-20 threaded insert on the back of the cabinet if you want to wall mount the speaker using an optional bracket (sold separately).

Customer Q&A

1 question already asked

The specs claim bass down to 35 hertz +/-3db. Hard to believe. Is that accurate? Do they really go that low?

i had purchased a set of KLH Kendalls for the living room and was so impressed that i decided to purchase a set of Albany IIs for the office. I cannot measure the freq response but i get a very vibrant and crisp bass on the jazz i have played on them so far. At this price point i am happy and if someone needed thumping bass then a sub might be in order.

I don't know. Would need to generate the tone and measure a response. I think it's more important whether you like how they sound and reproduce music you know. I think for what they are they sound pretty good.
