Very good, but no wow

These are solid sounding speakers, but I have to admit they lacked a wow factor. I was replacing 13(!) year old Infinity Primus 250 floorstanders which were still kicking but getting a little tired. Time to upgrade. Got a good deal on these KLH Cambridges, and Crutchfield had them to me in no time. Hooked them up to my fairly new Yamaha A-5301 amplifier (60 watts per), and I was expecting to hear a larger, fuller sound. Nope, not really. Better, but not that big of a difference. Maybe I had my expectations a little too high. They sound very good. What I would call a gentle or soft sound. I listen mainly to jazz, and these speakers regularly pump music through the main floor of our townhouse. I've had them for a couple weeks, and I'm still tweaking the sound. I'm currently listening with the treble knob up a few notches, which seems to give the music a little more snap.

Pros: Solid sound with a gentle/soft feel to them. Look amazing.

Cons: Not as big and dynamic of a sound as I was expecting or hoping for.

KLH Cambridge

They do an acceptably good job in my acoustically horrible room, bringing with them enhanced musical enjoyment in addition to just louder TV sound. At this price, they are a reasonable value for me and certainly an upgrade over the bookshelf speakers they replaced. They seem to get better as they break in.

Pros: They image well, play as loud as anyone could want, and are attractive and unobtrusive (wife has yet to object). I appreciate their bi-amp capability, using the otherwise useless rear channels of my AVR.

Cons: They are not as dynamic as I expected (compared to my old Klipsch Cornwalls, almost nothing is), and are somewhat deficient in lower mid-range and bass response, but this is certainly from problems with my room acoustics. I play CDs through my old Oppo DVD player through an HDMI input to my AVR allowing my subwoofer to kick in, which helps, but even this does not alleviate them not being able to "load the room" with its dearth of reflective surfaces.

Price-Sound-Engineering-Aesthetics: You can't do better!

I recently compared speakers from Klipsch, Wharfedale, Polk and KLH. I am a Klipsch fan but I kept going back to the KLH Cambridge pair. They were the most expensive (by not much) but while they shared the fullness of the Klipsch as well as the punchy bass which I like, they had better detail and a more pleasant overall sound. I didn't know that the brand had been recently resurrected so I had no agenda. If anything I was more predisposed towards the Klipsch going in but the demo swayed me. On paper the Cambridge have decent specs. They claim to go down to 33 HZ and have high sensitivity. My experience is that they do put out decent bass, and they have excellent definition. They are also very easy on the eyes. The veneer is well matched and they look good from all sides. They are right sized as they will add to a room's decor without overpowering it. I have been enjoying them for a few days and quite frankly they take my breath away. Very highly recommended.

Pros: Sound, Looks, Price

Cons: None

Great sound at a fair price

Great sound at a fair price. Needed to replace the Boston Acoustic Micro 110X bookshelf speakers as they were not cutting anymore with the room acoustics in our new home. Crutchfield tech helped me select an aesthetically pleasing replacement at a price point that didn't break the bank. Have not yet cranked them up in full ATMOS mode yet so stay tuned for a potential update to this review.

Pros: Full sound at low volume for TV or easy listening background and classical music.

Cons: Doesn't support banana plugs or quick disconnect connections.

Thanks for leaving your feedback. Our Tech Support team followed up with you directly, but for the benefit of others reading this review: KLH has designed these speakers to work with banana plugs. You must remove the small red and black plastic stoppers from the binding posts first. Then the banana plugs should fit just fine.

Very good, small tower speakers

Very efficient, good sounding speakers. They fill my large family room well. The mid and high frequencies tend to dominate the sound. This is most noticeable when playing standard stereo, such as with my turntable or a CD. They are very good for home theater (5.1 setup). They assist the center channel with making the dialog very clear.

Pros: Very clear mid and high frequencies.

Cons: Sound is a little "harsh" for plain stereo.

These speakers are beautiful and work well in my living room. The walnut finish on the KLH is perfect and my man Sting has never sounded so good. Thank you Crutchfield for the expert advice. I even got a follow-up post card from your order support team.

Pros: The vocals are so clear!

Cons:
