I first want to start this review by expressing my appreciation of Crutchfield's generous return policy. On my journey for the best receiver for my needs I tested the AVR 390, AVR10, Yamaha Aventage 3080 and the AVR20. I am not certain I would have paid this much for a receiver without being able to listen first and for my needs the AVR20 won out. Why? Well, the Yamaha had outstanding specs and power but I was never able to adapt to the musicality, even using the EQ and with manual settings. Plus the Yamaha struggled to keep my subwoofer in play for my setup. The AVR10 has many of the same specs as the AVR20 and for $1500 less! However I have big, power hungry floor standing 4 ohm Polk LSi 15s in my mix and for me the additional power from the amps of the AVR20 was important. Also, the AVR20 has a toroidal transformer and the AVR10 has an E/I Frame transformer. Some folks may find it a minor difference, but for me it counted. The sound of both of the Arcams was immediately impressive (even before running the DIRAC setup). By the way during setup I called the Arcam technical support line and was gladdened to find joyful, patient, support technicians who also own Arcam products (they had plenty of good tips). My system at home has never sounded better, musically my speakers have come to life and for movies the soundstage is enveloping with unbelievable detail. Use Google Home or IOs to connect to your network and update your Arcam immediately, earlier firmware = buggy!
Pros: Sound quality Build quality DIRAC You can fine tune config til your heart's content Wonderful streaming option with Chromecast
Cons: Music Life app is frustrating Early firmware versions are buggy
