Pleased with the sound quality. Agree that the responsiveness is sub-par compared to any other remote controlled devices.
Pros: Exceptional sound quality.
Cons: Slow response

Would not purchase again. Sounds pretty good but has a lot of issues. Oftentimes doesn't turn on and have to hit the power button multiple times. Sometimes doesn't read CD-R discs. Have to take CD-R out and put it back in and then it works. Inconsistent. Player is slow to respond to remote control commands. Overall, it's as if the player is in slow-motion. Extremely disappointed with it. Wish I could return it but just outside return time span.
Pros: Great backlit remote control Small form factor
Cons: Doesn't always power on Inconsistently works with CD-R discs Overall, very slow CD Player

Very nice SACD player I use to demo my new speakers. The DAC is also great for playing music from my computer to my home theater system.
Pros: Nice price point.

I was looking for a high-quality CD player that also handled SACDs and which contained a USB input and a premium DAC. The CDS50 provides all these capabilities in a very attractive package at a reasonable price. I expect it to last for many years, and I can say that my initial listening impression is that those years will offer a great deal of satisfaction. The clincher was that Crutchfield could deliver the Arcam more quickly than other vendors.

My circa 1998 Onkyo DX-C730 CD changer started showing signs of age. The sound would drop for a split second and then come back on. I decided to replace it with a much higher-end model. I have an extensive CD collection and wanted a player to really bring the discs alive. I had narrowed my search down to the Yamaha CD-S1000 ($1,300) and the Denon DCD-1600NE ($1,200). I had nixed the Marantz ND8006 ($1,200) because it did not have SACD. So, I opened a live chat with Tom to see what he would suggest before making my final decision. While Tom agreed the Yamaha and Denon were nice players preferring the Yamaha over the Denon, Tom then suggested the Arcam CDS50. I had passed this gem over in my research I think mainly because it looked gray. It is actually a lighter black that looks just fine with my other black equipment. I am glad Tom steered me to the Arcam. The Arcam CDS50 sounded wonderful right out of the box. I have been burning it in for the last few days running it all day long. Each day the amazing sound has just gotten better. The 65" 4K TV has not been on since this amazing CD player has arrived! If this is in your price range, I highly recommend it, you will not be disappointed. It is well built and has a 5-year warranty. There are more connection options then I will ever use, but they are there if needed. I could not be happier with this purchase!
Pros: Well built, tons of connection options, 5-year warranty, awesome DAC, very detailed and musical.
