About the Arcam P349
Three channels of power for your home theater system
Three channels of power for your home theater system
If you're using power-hungry speakers for the front left, center, and right speakers in your surround sound system, the Arcam P349 can feed them the watts they need. It gives you plenty of volume for music and movies, and it excels at controlling the stop-start motion of your speakers' drivers. That precise control enhances accuracy, deepens bass, and helps create a realistic soundstage.
Usually, 3-channel amps like the P349 are paired with A/V preamp/processors like Arcam's high-performance AV860. But if your home theater receiver has preamp outputs — like many Arcam models do — you can easily connect the MCA 325 and use it to drive your front left, center and right channels. That surge of added power brings startling impact to movie soundtracks.
Versatile Class G amplifier
The engineers who designed the P349 wanted it to provide the right amount of power at the right time, so your music and movies always sound exactly as they should. That's why they chose a Class G amplifier design, which uses Class A circuitry for low-level signals, then kicks in a higher-voltage power supply for more demanding dynamic peaks. And it does it without adding any crossover distortion or noise.
The P349 gives you plenty of options for connecting to a preamp. There's a switch that lets you select input from three unbalanced RCA or three balanced XLR inputs. There are also three RCA preamp outputs for connecting additional amps.

High Quality Construction & Design: Arcam's P349 power amplifier provides class leading sound quality for the best possible reproduction of your music. Drawing on the many years of amplifier design experience at Arcam, this product uses the best quality components and engineering practice to produce a product that will give many years of musical pleasure and reliable service. With a class G amplifier, toroidal based power supply, acoustically damped chassis, parallel transistor output stages and exceptionally low levels of distortion and noise, the P349 is capable of reproducing music with all its original authority and detail. Rest assured you will be hearing the music just as the artist intended. The P349 is designed to produce a level of performance that will truly bring music to life.
Class G Amplification: The P349 power amplifier utilizes Arcam's latest generation Class G amplifier topology that is both clever and efficient. Class G amplification implements multiple power supplies rather than just a single supply. If a dynamic signal is received that goes beyond the capability of the first power supply, the secondary supply is gradually brought in up to full rated power output as required. This gives a very efficient design as additional power is only used when required. Modern high speed silicon allows Arcam to make this switch faster than would ever be required, even way beyond the audio bandwidth, so there is no lag in power. The first power supply is of lower power and within this region we run in pure Class A, which has no crossover distortion. As the secondary supply is only used when required, extreme levels of power are possible because very little energy is wasted in the amplifier as heat when it is not being used. Without control this power would be ill-used, so multiple output devices within the amplifier keep a tight grip on the loudspeaker at all times, ensuring your listening experience never lacks dynamics and detail.
- 180 watts per channel (with all 3-channels driven @ 20-20kHz into 8-ohm)
- 200 watts per channel (with 2-channels driven @ 20-20kHz into 8-ohm)
- 220 watts per channel (with 1-channel drivn @ 1kHz into 8-ohm)
- 400 watts per channel (wtih 1-channel driven @1kHz into 4-ohm)
Balanced & Unbalanced Inputs: The Arcam P349 power amplifier is outfitted with balanced (XLR) and unbalanced (RCA) inputs. The power amplifier features three high-quality balanced XLR inputs for connection to the balanced XLR preamp outputs of your high-end AV processor or preamplifier. Balanced XLR connections provide excellent signal transfer with low signal loss and low distortion levels. The P349 also features three gold-plated, unbalanced RCA inputs for connection your AV processor or preamplifier. There is an Input Switch on the back of the power amplifier that allows you indicate which type of connection you are using.
Binding-Post Speaker Outputs: The P349 amplifier is outfitted with a total of twelve heavy-duty, gold-plated binding post speaker output terminals for connection of up to three pair of loudspeakers. The binding-post terminals will accept bare-wire (up to 10AWG), pin-connectors, spade-lugs, and banana plugs (single only).
Unbalanced Pre-Outs: The Arcam P349 is equipped with three unbalanced RCA pre-outs. These pre-outs provide a copy of the signal applied to the power amplifier's balanced XLR or unbalanced RCA inputs. Please not that these are passive outputs and not additional filter or amplification is applied.
Trigger In/Out: The Arcam P349 is equipped with a 12V trigger input and output; each consisting of a 3.5mm jack. The trigger input alls the amplifier to be remotely turn on and off by an AV processor or preamplifier with a trigger output. The amplifier's trigger output allows the P349 to control the power on/off of an additional amplifier with a trigger input.
