About the DALI Phantom H-60

Wide dispersion and detailed sound from a discreet speaker
Wide dispersion and detailed sound from a discreet speaker

The H-60's wood-fiber woofer and soft-dome tweeter stealthily deliver DALI's smooth, detailed sound.
Danish speaker company DALI's goal is to make their speakers "disappear" and the music come alive. The Phantom H-60 in-wall/in-ceiling speakers all but vanish behind their low-profile magnetic grilles. From their oversized soft-dome tweeter, to the wood-fiber woofer, and even the crossover, these speakers are designed for low coloration and wide dispersion. The first is important because you want to hear your music the way it's supposed to sound, and the second because you're not always sitting in the sweet spot.
DALI also carefully designed these speakers for a seamless handoff between the drivers. The woofer has an inviting sonic signature, featuring a stiff, lightweight blend of fine-grain paper pulp reinforced with wood fibers. And the 1-1/8" tweeter also reproduces relatively low frequencies — for a tweeter — so that it overlaps with the woofer in the most musical manner.
DIY installation in your wall or ceiling
The H-60s can be used as in-wall or in-ceiling speakers. If this is a do-it-yourself installation, check out our guide to installing in-wall and in-ceiling speakers. Learn more about in-wall wiring in general at the Crutchfield Learning Center.
DALI's dogleg mounting system helps simplify installation. Just place the speaker into the cutout and tighten the dedicated screws to swing out the dogleg brackets.

Features
DALI Phantom H Series: DALI brings its traditional box speaker technologies and virtues to its custom-install speaker line-up with the Phantom H Series that combines a compact in-wall/in-ceiling design with Hi-Fi audio performance. The Phantom H Series delivers a natural full-range sound with a wide soundstage that features clear high frequencies, detailed midrange, and accurate bass frequencies. The DALI Phantom H Series can be used in stereo, distributed audio, or home theater application.
Wide Dispersion: The DALI Phantom H Series makes it easy to integrate in-wall and in-ceiling loudspeakers into practically any room and are designed to deliver great sound to a wide listening area, faithfully reproducing every detail in the audio signal wherever you sit or stand.. Both the driver materials and geometry applied in the Phantom Series have been selected to achieve a wide dispersion pattern in the listening area. The same principles have been applied in the design of the crossover. Thus, you will experience a well-integrated sound, even when listening at a significant off-axis angle. This is important as you are rarely seated directly in front of your loudspeaker when listening to music. An added benefit is greatly reduced harmonic distortion and frequency distortion, as these will always be stronger in an on-axis response.
Soft-Dome Tweeter: The Phantom H-60 utilizes a soft-dome tweeter for DALI's signature sonic sound. . The ferrite driven magnet motor system is able to handle more power and disperses heat generated in the voice coil rapidly, thereby reducing power compression. The ultra light-weight weave fabric combined with the very capable magnet motor system allows the tweeter to reproduce high frequencies with higher accuracy, giving the Phantom H-60 speaker an impressively detailed sound. The positioning of the tweeter's front plate near the dome has been optimized to create the optimal working conditions for the soft-dome. The aim is to combine an extended frequency response with wide dispersion and low coloration, and improve the integration between the tweeter and midrange/bass driver.
Wood Fiber Cone: The Phantom H-60's woofer is based around DALI's signature wood-fiber cone for well-balanced midrange and bass frequency sound. The wood fiber cone is a blend of fine grain paper pulp that is reinforced with wood fiber, which creates a stiff, light-weight and well-behaving structure. The wood-fiber cone terminates in a low-loss rubber surround and both the surround and the spider holding the cone-assembly are optimized for long excursions. All this is controlled by a powerful magnet motor system that ensures that the cone-assembly can start and stop promptly, as well as offer high power handling with low distortion. As a result, you'll hear unfiltered, high resolution sound with micro detail and high accuracy.
Audiophile Crossover Design: The included crossover is designed especially for the Phantom H-60 speaker with every component in the crossover being carefully selected for its audiophile quality sound. In addition, all the internal wiring is optimized for the speaker design and is placed and secured to eliminate the possibility of rattling. The terminals are placed directly on the crossover for the shortest possible signal path.
PTC (Polymeric Positive Temperature Coefficient) System: The Phantom H Series includes PTC (Polymeric Positive Temperature Coefficient) safety function. This safeguards the driver components from overheating if played at very loud volumes over a long period. In-wall and in-ceiling speakers are often played to fill more than just the room they are mounted in, so if the listener is in another room the volume can accidentally be turned up to extremely high levels, and therefore permanently damage the speakers. The PTC system will prevent this from happening, since it acts like a fuse if the current gets too high.
Rigid Baffle: The Phantom H Series introduces improvements to the basic design of the front baffle by adding extra thickness to the outer edges for a tighter and more secure fit against the mounting area. This also helps the overall strength and rigidity of the speaker. The high and low frequency drivers are securely mounted in the ridged front baffle with the tweeter placed close to the woofer for optimum integration. Based on a fiber reinforced polymer the front baffle of the Phantom H-60 offers its drivers a solid base to work within. This ridged baffle material keeps the drivers in place, removing unwanted vibrations and ensuring optimum integration with the wall or ceiling.
Low-Profile Magnetic Grille: The DALI Phantom H Series' very thin magnetic front grille integrates seamlessly into almost any home environment. The low-profile grille only protrudes 0.25" from your wall or ceiling. The grille is finished in white, but can be painted to match your wall or ceiling.
Spring Post Terminals: The Phantom Series H-60 speaker is outfitted with a set of spring post terminals that will accept bare wire (up to 12AWG), pin-connectors, and banana plugs (single or dual).
Mounting Options: The DALI Phantom H-60 can be used as an in-wall or in-ceiling speaker. It requires a square cutout that measures 10.4375" (w) x 10.4375" (h) x 3.6875" (d). An integrated"dogleg" mounting system secures the speaker in your wall or ceiling. Simply insert the speaker in the prepared mounting cutout, and then swing out the "dogleg" brackets and tighten them against the back of the mounting surface. If the mounting surface is extra thick reversing the "doglegs" make it possible to expand the mounting grip from 1.25" to 2.75". The "doglegs" willl need 1.0" of clearance around the interior of the cutout.
- For stereo and home theater applications, it is recommended that you position a pair of speakers symmetrically around your favorite listening poistion to achieve an optimum soundstage.
- The tweeter of the Phantom H Series is off-center, so the speaker should be positioned so that the tweeter is closest to the listening position.
- The amount and quality of bass will depend on the size and shape of your room, and the position of the speaker. Positionng the speaker near a side or back wall will accentuate the bass. A corner location will accentuate it even more, but will also increase reflection.
Note: The flow damping foam material mounted on the back of the speaker should not be removed. It will assist in managing midrange/bass reproduction by damping resonances in the cavity behind the open-back woofer.
