About the Nextbase 222 Dash Cam
Acclaimed for quality
Acclaimed for quality
If you've been shopping dash cams for a little bit, you probably already know there are a lot of cheap options out there, but low-quality video and patchy reliability is the last thing you want in the wake of an accident. Nextbase prioritizes quality, even in their entry-level cams, like the 222 Dash Cam. It's a solid choice for recording any road shenanigans that might unfold before you while you're driving. The 222 Dash Cam gives you full high-definition video quality, night vision, and a 140-degree wide-angle view, guaranteeing the level of detail you need to capture essential information like license plate numbers and road signs. All video files are saved to a microSD card (not included) and the 222 Dash Cam's built-in G-Sensor will detect sudden acceleration or a collision, then save the critical footage. Plus, Nextbase lets you review footage using the cam's 2-1/2" LCD screen.
The 222 Dash Cam will loop-record the road ahead according to your settings. As soon as you park and your ignition is turned off, the cam will switch into Intelligent Parking Mode which draws no power except to keep the built-in G-sensor at the ready. If your vehicle is bumped while you're away, the cam will power on to record and save critical video in its view.
Click&Go PRO™ mount
Nextbase's adhesive-backed mount and camera use integrated magnetic power connectors to make it easy to take your 222 Dash Cam in and out of the car. Mount the base on a convenient spot on your windshield and run the camera's included cable to your vehicle's 12-volt power output. Then, just snap your camera into place, and you're good to go.

More details on the Nextbase 222 Dash Cam
Overview: The Nextbase 222 Dash Cam (NBDVR222) offers full HD recording with excellent clarity. The compact dash camera features the Click&Go PRO™ magnetic car mount that makes it easy to install or remove with one hand. With a 140° viewing angle, the 222 gives you a wide view of the road ahead. Footage is recorded onto a microSD card (not included). The dash cam comes with an adhesive mount, a 13' DC power cable, and a USB cable.
Image Sensor: The 222 is equipped with a 2.12-megapixel image sensor with a native resolution of 1936 x 1097. The camera can record Full HD video (1920 x 1080) at 30 fps in daylight or night time. You can also set the camera to record at 720p at 30 fps or 60 fps. If desired, you can take 1920 x 1080 still photos. Lower resolutions increase total recording times on the microSD card.
Screen: The Nextbase Dash Cam features a 2.5" color LCD screen with a resolution of 732 (W) x 240 (H) x RGB (720) and a 16:9 aspect ratio. It features IPS (in-plane switching) technology, which offers the best viewing angles and best color.
Lens: The camera has a 6-layer (6G) lens with a maximum aperture of f1.6 that is optimized for HD recording. It has a wide 140° viewing angle, which provides a non-distorted view of the highway ahead, as well as the shoulder and road signs. An optional Polarizing Filter can be added to the lens to reduce excessive glare from direct sunlight.
Audio Recording: The 222 has a built-in microphone and speaker that records audio along with the video. During playback, you can listen to the audio through the built-in speaker. You can disable the microphone in the menu if you choose not to record audio.
G-Sensor: The Nextbase 222 dash cam is equipped with a built-in G-Sensor, an accelerometer that measures the amount of force applied during an impact. If you're involved in an accident while driving, the G-Sensor will cause the current recording to be protected and moved to a folder that can't be overwritten. The sensitivity can be adjusted in the menu. The G-Sensor is also active when your vehicle is parked, and the Intelligent Parking Mode (see below) is activated.
microSD Card: The 222 records videos and photos onto a microSD card (sold separately). microSD cards from 8 GB to 128 GB are recommended. The cards should have a minimum Class 10 rating (48 MB/s) and a UHS Speed Rating of U3. In the menu, you can set the length of the individual recorded video files to 1 minute (default), 2 minutes, or 3 minutes. Video records to the card until it reaches its maximum recording capacity, then records over the oldest unsaved footage (Loop Recording). Recording capacity, based on default settings, is as follows:
|microSD Card Size||Recording Capacity|
|8 GB||60 minutes (1 hour)|
|16 GB||120 minutes (2 hours)|
|32 GB||240 minutes (4 hours)|
|64 GB||480 minutes (8 hours)|
|128 GB||960 minutes (16 hours)|
Intelligent Parking Mode: The Nextbase 222 protects your vehicle even if you're not driving. While your car is parked, the Intelligent Parking Mode records any bump or physical movement on your vehicle. When you turn off the ignition (and Intelligent Parking Mode enabled), the 222 automatically switches into Parking Mode, and increases the sensitivity of the G Force Sensor. If your car is bumped, the Dash Cam will automatically switch on, record for 30 seconds, and shut down.
Click&Go PRO™ Mount: Nextbase's exclusive Click&Go PRO car mount makes the dash cam easy to install and remove. The mount securely attaches to your windshield via the 3M VHB (Very High Bond) adhesive. The mount features strong neodymium magnets that hold the camera tightly while making the power connection through its 5-pin connector. The power cable attaches to the Click&Go PRO mount instead of the camera, so you can easily remove the camera when you want.
Viewing Video: You can view recorded videos on the camera itself through the built-in 2.5" screen. You can also connect the camera to your computer via the included USB cable, or use an SD card reader. MyNextbase Player software can be downloaded to your PC (Windows 10) or Mac (OS X 10.9). Recorded videos can be uploaded and stored to MyNextbase Cloud for sharing on social media. While connected to your computer (and the Internet), you can update the firmware of your 222 dash cam through MyNextbase Player.
Power Requirements: The 222 Dash Cam comes with a 13' (4 meter) power cable with a 12-24 VDC ("cigarette lighter") plug. The power adapter has an output of 5V / 1.5A, and plugs into the Click&Go PRO mount via a Mini-B USB connector. It does NOT plug directly into the USB port on the camera. The cable can be routed from your DC power port to the top of the windshield using the included Cable Tidy tool. For a more permanent wiring solution, an optional Nextbase Hardwire Kit is available.
Rechargeable Battery: The Dash Cam has a built-in 3.7V 280mAh Lithium-Polymer rechargeable battery. The battery should be fully charged for 2 hours prior to initial use. A fully charged battery provides approximately 15 minutes of battery power when vehicle power is lost, or the unit is unplugged from power. The battery is not intended to be an alternative power source to replace the supplied car adapter.
Auto Power Off: When you turn the vehicle's engine off, the power port typically turns off as well. The camera will continue recording for a short time after power is lost. You can set the Auto Power Off feature to continue recording for 10 seconds (default), 1 minute, or 2 minutes.
