More details on the Nextbase DVRS2RWC
Overview: The Nextbase Rear Window Camera (NBDVRS2RWC) is a compact add-on camera that plugs into select Series 2 Dash Cams. The camera mounts to your vehicle's rear window and has a long cable that plugs into the side connector of the compatible front-facing Dash Cam. The Rear Window Camera adds a separate video stream that is recorded onto the Dash Cam's microSD card. The Rear Window Camera has a wide angle lens with a wide viewing angle that captures traffic and other details behind your vehicle.
Compatibility: The Rear Window Camera is compatible with select Nextbase Series 2 Dash Cams, including the 622GW, 522GW, 422GW, and 322GW. These Dash Cameras are equipped with a Mini-HDMI input on the right side that will accept the camera cable's plug. The Rear Window Camera is not compatible with the 222 or 122 dash cams because they lack the needed input.
Lens: The Rear Window Camera has a wide angle lens with a 140° field of view. Because it mounts in the rear of the cabin and not to the windshield, there's no interference from passengers blocking the camera's view. The wide field of view lets you see objects directly behind you and from other lanes of traffic. In Parking Mode, the camera captures any activity that happens behind your vehicle.
Installation: The Rear Window Camera is designed to be mounted to the inside of the rear facing window. For the clearest possible image, it should be mounted inside of the range of the rear wiper, if equipped, but not obstructed by any window defroster lines. The camera mount attaches to the window via the included strong 3M adhesive pad. The Rear Window Camera comes with enough cable to reach from the back of your vehicle to the windshield where the Dash Cam is located. The camera has an attached 1' pigtail that lets you unplug it and take it with you, if desired. The main connector cable is over 21 feet long, allowing you to route it along the head liner or along the floor to reach the Dash Cam. The cable can be tucked out of sight using the Cable Tidy tool included with the Dash Cam. If installing on the rear window of a hatchback or van, you should leave enough cable slack to comfortably open the hatch without dislodging the camera.
Note: Please note the location of any airbags that may be installed in the head liner before routing the cable in that area.
Aiming the Camera: The Rear Window Camera is mounted to an adjustable, magnetic mount that lets you aim the camera in any direction. This accommodates the different types of rear windows, such as slanted sedan/coupe windows and vertical truck or van windows.
Resolution: The resolution of the Rear Window Camera is dependent upon the resolution setting and capability of the Dash Cam it's connected to:
|Dash Camera||Rear Window Camera|
|622GW||4K, 1440p, 1080p||1080p @ 30 fps|
|522GW||1440p, 1080p||720p @ 30 fps|
|422GW||1440p, 1080p @ 60 fps||720p @ 30 fps|
|1080p @ 30 fps||1080p @ 30 fps|
|720p @ 30 fps|
Audio Recording: When the Rear Window Camera is attached, the Dash Cam will record two separate video streams, one from the front facing camera and one from the rear facing camera. The Rear Window Camera is not equipped with a microphone, therefore, audio is recorded from the Dash Camera, and applied to both the Front and Rear video streams.
Displaying the Rear Window Camera: When the Dash Cam is turned on with a Rear Window Camera connected, the Dash Cam display will show the Rear Window Camera as a Picture-in-Picture (PIP) to the center-left of the screen. Tapping on the PIP image will open the Rear Window image in full screen. Tapping the screen again will cause the PIP image to reappear.
Screen Capture: When the Picture-in-Picture image is displayed, you can touch the center of the front-facing view (with a yellow dotted frame) to take a screen shot. Two photos are captured in the memory card: one from the front-facing camera, and one from the Rear Window Camera.
