About the Petnet SmartFeeder 2.0
Every meal is on time
Every meal is on time
The reason I wake up early most mornings is because my pets want their breakfast, especially if dinner was on the early side the night before. With the Petnet SmartFeeder, your pet can be fed at perfectly timed intervals whether you're working late or sleeping in, so everyone stays happy.
My Abby is a gobbler, so I programmed four tiny meals, one minute apart for her.
Personalized for your pet
The Petnet mobile app makes it easy to customize the time and size of each meal. It will even make recommendations based on your pet's age, weight, and standard activity levels. The optional SmartDelivery service delivers food based on your pet's profile, daily servings, and bag size.
If you're a worrier like me, rest easy — the app will notify you when your pet has been fed or when the food is getting low. And if you've got a Nest Cam, you can even view a snapshot of your pet while she eats.
What if your pet got a ton of exercise and you want to give her some extra food? There's no need to schedule an extra meal. You can easily add a bonus feeding any time using the app or the manual feed button on the front of the SmartFeeder. Or if you've got a voice assistant, you can just ask Alexa or Google to do it for you.

Petnet SmartFeeder 2.0 reviews
It's not the feeder itself that's a problem, but the app that you need to operate it. (There are no manual controls or settings available.) After the tedious effort of downloading the app to my phone, linking it to my home router, and then calling on the app to set up a feeding schedule, I hit a wall. The first attempt yielded a notice that my bluetooth connection wasn't working (I don't even use bluetooth!) When I called customer service, I was told that yes, there's a problem, but that they're working on it now and all should be OK soon. Next day I tried again, and this time I got another notice saying that a connection couldn't be made to my wi-fi address. So, I called again, reached the same service agent, and was told that there was another problem that they were trying to fix. I waited until later in the day and tried again. This time I got a notice saying the app couldn't "find" my feeder. That's when I packed up the feeder and took it back to the Crutchfield store for a refund. Later I checked other reviews of this feeder, and the first 10 reviewers also gave it one star for the same reasons I did. So, buyer beware--the necessary software sucks, and there's no way to use the feeder without it.
Pros: Who knows? The faulty software prevented me from even getting the feeder to operate!
Cons: The app is 100% unreliable, and it's the only way you can operate the unit!

Bought this for my cat. In general this product works well and as advertised, particularly for timed automatic feeds, which is its most important use. The additional one-time feeds through the app tend to fail sometimes, but if you reset the device by turning off and on again this resolves. I had the mechanism jam once in the two months I have owned it, but I simply cleaned out the kibble and it then worked fine. Overall this is very useful and helpful if you need to be away from a cat for a few days. If you're a dog owner, you're not going to get it to walk the dog for you though....
Pros: Automatic feeds very reliable
Cons: Occasional issues with one time feeds and mechanism jams

Lacking in any instructions other than a "quick start" . ended up calling tech support to even get it hooked up to wi-fi. ends up can only use 2.4g setting on wifi and nowhere does it state that. now have food setting for one amount and it tells me if drops more than the setting. will watch that for over feeding.

More details on the Petnet SmartFeeder 2.0
Overview: The newly redesigned Petnet SmartFeeder (2nd generation) is a Wi-Fi enabled pet food dispenser that lets you control when and how much food your pet gets. With the Petnet Mobile App, available for iOS and Android, you can schedule your pet's meals, choose their food portions, and receive alerts that your pet has been fed. Integration with Amazon Alexa or Google Home lets you control SmartFeeder with your voice. SmartFeeder is designed for cats or small-to-medium sized dogs, and includes an aluminum bowl insert with a holder that keeps it in place under the dispenser.
Design: SmartFeeder's top-loading hopper lets you store 5 to 7 pounds (close to 2 gallons) of dry food, while the bowl has the capacity to hold up to 2.5 cups. The SmartFeeder works best with kibble sizes 1/8" to 5/8" in diameter. It has a locking lid to keep the food fresh, and prevent your pet from "breaking in" to get a snack. When feeding time comes, SmartFeeder releases the food portion through the bottom of the hopper and into the stainless steel bowl. The SmartFeeder provides feedback to the app to alert you that a feeding has taken place, and how much food remains in the hopper.
Petnet Mobile App: The Petnet SmartFeeder connects to your home's Wi-Fi router (802.11 b/g/n 2.4 GHz). Using the Petnet Mobile App you can control and monitor your pet's meals right on your smartphone. You can schedule the number of feedings per day, and portion sizes of from 1/16 cup to 1-1/2 cups, based upon recommendations corresponding with your pet's age, weight, and activity level. After each feeding, you'll receive an alert on your smartphone. The app will alert you when the food in the hopper is getting low. The app enables you to feed your pet manually whenever you desire. The Petnet Mobile App works with iPhone and iPad running iOS 9.3 or later, and Android smartphones or tablets running version 4.4 and up.
3rd Party Integration: The SmartFeeder features integration with Amazon Alexa, Google Home, and Nest Cam. With Amazon Alexa and Google Home you can dispense food to your pet just by using your voice. The SmartFeeder responds by dispensing the requested amount of food. If you want to know your pet's welfare, and whether they are eating while you're away, you can integrate Nest Cam with the SmartFeeder. Using Nest Cam, you can monitor your pet's feeding habits through live streaming or uploaded photographs on the Petnet Mobile App.
Cleaning: The food container unlocks from the base, allowing you to remove it (and the insert) and keep it clean. The dishwasher-safe, aluminum feeding tray insert can be removed as well for regular cleaning.
Power Options: The Petnet SmartFeeder is powered by the supplied USB cable and AC adapter. The feeder and bowl feature a rechargeable battery that provides 9-hour backup power in case of a power outage.
