Make that microchip work for you (and your cat!)

We microchip our pets in case the worst happens and they get lost. But what if we could benefit from that insurance plan without losing anyone we love? The PetSafe Microchip Cat Door allows you to do that.

PetSafe Microchip Cat Door

PetSafe's Microchip Cat Door can give your cat the freedom to explore.

Once programmed, it recognizes your cat's microchip and lets her pass through. If she doesn't have a chip, or her chip isn't compatible, you can use the microchip collar tag (sold separately) instead. This allows her freedom to explore outside, but with some limits, set by you.

Indoor kitties can use it, too

I have a mixed household — cats and dogs. I'm sure I'm not the only one who has struggled to keep my dogs out of cat-only areas like the litterbox closet. Installing a cat door like this on an interior door or two is a great solution to that problem, and it's a lot more attractive and user-friendly than the series of gates and latches I currently have installed.

Versatile installation options

PetSafe's Microchip Cat Door is ready to install in wood or PVC doors right out of the box. If you want to install it in metal, metal core, or glass doors, you'll need to pick up the Installation Adaptor. And if you're installing it in a wall or a very thick door, you'll likely need at least one Extension Tunnel.

Product Research

Features

Overview: The PetSafe Microchip Cat Flap allows your pet to come and go as he pleases. It also denies access to your home to the neighborhood cats or small wildlife (raccoons, opossums, skunks, etc.). The door operates via radio frequencies (RFID) and will unlock when it detects the signal from your pet's microchip or optional Microchip Cat Flap key, allowing your pet access through the door. Once your pet has passed through, the door will automatically lock back into place. To prevent draftsThe Microchip Cat Flap also has a manual 4-way lock. It is powered by 4 AA alkaline batteries (not included).

Dimensions: The Microchip Cat Flap has the following dimensions:

  • Internal Frame:
    • Indoor Frame Dimensions: Width 8.655", Height 9.408", Frame Thickness (not including tunnel): 1.671"
    • Outdoor Frame Dimensions: Outside: W 8.622" x H 9.406"; Inside: W 6.594 x H 6.833"; Depth 0.655"
    • Tunnel Dimensions: Width 6.046, Height 5.25", Depth 2.842"
  • Flap Dimensions: W 5.65" x H 5.33"
  • Cut Out Required: W 6.625" x H 6.875" high

Power Requirements: The Microchip Cat Flap is powered by 4 AA alkaline batteries (not included). Fresh batteries will have an estimated life of up to approximately 12 months.

Manual Lock: The Microchip Cat Flap has a 4-way manual lock can control access of your pet, allowing or denying access through the door. You can set the lock as follows:

  • In or Out: The flap allows programmed cats to enter or exit through the door.
  • In only: Programmed cats can enter through the flap, but cannot exit.
  • Out only: Programmed cats can exit through the flap, but cannot reenter.
  • Fully Locked: The flap denies access through the door in either direction.

Microchip Programming: Cat owners can have a tiny microchip inserted just under their pet's skin as a means of identification, or recovering lost pets. The chip's unique ID number can be programmed into the Microchip Cat Flap to allow your cat to enter and/or exit through the cat door. Up to 40 microchips can be programmed to the Cat Flap, which is ideal for multi-pet households. The Micro Cat Flap is designed to work with most 15-digit microchips (FDX-B). For non-compatible microchips, you'll need the optional Microchip Cat Flap Key (item #481PA16247) to operate the Cat Flap.

Installation: The PetSafe Microchip Cat Flap is designed to be installed inside a cutout in your door, and requires removing the door from its hinges. A cutting template is included to provide a guide for positioning the Microchip Cat Flap, drilling the pilot holes, and cutting the hole in your door. In some cases, the PetSafe Installation Adapter (item #481PA16246) is required to install the Cat Flap. The door type dictates the cutout size and shape:
