About the Alpine PWD-CB1

Party in a box

It was only a matter of time. Where there's good, loud music, there's often a party — Alpine just wrapped it all up into one kick-butt cooler. On land or at sea, in a stadium parking lot or on the patio, Alpine's PWD-CB1 In-Cooler Entertainment system (ICE, for short) will be the life of the party, without a doubt.

Easy to use

An illuminated control panel and big volume up/down buttons make it easy to use at night, and Alpine couldn't have made things simpler as far as music sources go. I was able to pair my smartphone via Bluetooth® within seconds of firing up the ICE system, but Alpine also includes a 3.5mm aux line in for wired options like gameday radio broadcasts. And if you want to create the ultimate tailgating experience, Alpine gives you a line output so that you can connect multiple ICEs to one source.

The power it's packin'

To power your ICE, you'll use the16-foot vehicle power cable that plugs into your car's or truck's power source. Depending on the rating of your vehicle's power port, Alpine gives you a selectable 10- or 15-amp power modes, and here's one my favorite features — Alpine's vehicle battery monitoring system warns you before your battery gets too low to start up your vehicle. Once your ICE is powered and paired, the built-in amp delivers 90 watts RMS per channel to drive a pair of 5-1/4" component speakers and 4"x8" passive radiators. So, you'll have plenty of power to rock the great outdoors.

Cooler capacity

You know you can count on Alpine for solid sound, but what about cooler construction? To ensure quality across the board, Alpine has partnered with Grizzly Coolers to ensure the ICE stands the test of time and heavy use. This 56-quart cooler boasts a heavy-duty, water-resistant (IPX5 rating) construction with extremely tough handles and hinges, along with a 2" rear plug for draining melted ice. The handles are nylon rope encased in rubber sleeve grips so hauling this cooler isn't hard on your hands. Now, for the most important spec of all... Alpine's PWD-CB1 In-Cooler Entertainment system holds 72 twelve-ounce cans. That's a whole lotta party in one cool place.

Features

In-Cooler Entertainment (ICE): Whether tailgating, camping, at the beach, or having a pool party with friends, the Alpine ICE In-Cooler Entertainment PWD-CB1 provides quality audio entertainment while doubling as a premium, high-capacity Grizzly cooler. The Bluetooth audio connection and deceptively powerful speaker system are engineered and tuned to create a deep impact and fill any space with incredibly rich, intoxicating sound while keeping your food and drinks on ice for the long haul.

High Powered Audio: The high-powered, 90W x 2 amplifier sustains high output levels while maintaining a warm, immersive vocal range and thick, impactful bass. Component speakers, specifically designed for the cooler, consist of 5.25" high dynamic range woofers and 1" high output tweeters. Two 4" x 8" bass radiators below the woofers create remarkable bass response without sacrificing storage space for the important stuff.  There are two Output Modes to choose from -

  • Vehicle Mode: Vehicle mode provides partial output power and is the default setting. It will operate safely in most vehicle cigarette lighter applications.
  • Max Power Mode: Max Power mode provides full output power and should only be used with a power source rated at 15A or higher.

Maximized Space: To accommodate the air space necessary for optimal speaker performance, the speaker cabinet is strategically designed to distribute air through unused areas of the Grizzly cooler body. Thanks to this brilliant design, Alpine ICE can maximize its sound output and performance while retaining a very generous 56 Quart capacity, equivalent to storing 72 12-oz. cans.

IPX5 Rated: The Alpine ICE In-Cooler Entertainment PWD-CB1 is water resistant with an IPX5 rating. It can withstand water spray from any direction. However, it is not waterproof and should not be submerged in water. There is a 2" plug and drain channel for your ice when it melts.

Bluetooth Audio Streaming: Thanks to built-in Bluetooth 4.0 with support for A2DP, you can wirelessly stream stored music and music apps from your Bluetooth source device (like your smartphone or table) to  the Alpine ICE In-Cooler Entertainment system. You will still use your Bluetooth source device to control music playback and to view song/artist/album information. You can only pair and connect one device at a time. The PWD-CB1 had a Bluetooth wireless range of  approximately 33'.

Note: The Alpine PWD-CB1 does not support Bluetooth hands-free phone communication (HFP) for hands-free phone calls.

Aux Input: Along with Bluetooth, the PWD-CB1's aux input (3.5mm) jack gives you the flexibility to connect to a portable music player with a headphone jack output.

Aux Out: There is a 3.5mm line output which allows you to connect two Alpine ICE In-Cooler Entertainment systems together for even bigger sound.

Integrated Control Panel: The sleek control panel is built into the Alpine ICE body with simple controls, like volume and power, while quickly connecting you to a Bluetooth enabled device.

Power Requirements: Alpine ICE gives you the flexibility of using the most convenient power sources such as from a vehicle or an external battery so that you're not reliant on an internal battery with a short lifespan. Alpine ICE can also auto-detect the vehicle's low battery so the vehicle can restart and charge when started.

Dimensions: The Alpine ICE In-Cooler Entertainment PWD-CB1 measures 34" (w) x 17.875" (h) x 16.75" (d) and measures 48 lbs.

Customer Q&A

1 question already asked

Q
i WANT TO USE THIS COOLER BY THE POOL. Are there other power sources available for this cooler? I would like to be able to plug into to the wall next to the pool
[ Robert  Apr 08, 2019 ]

A
The Alpine Cooler system is designed to work on a 12 volt power supply. You would need a 12 volt converter to be able to use it with your home's 120 volt power supply. We don't have any products like that in our currently inventory. If you have questions or want to look at alternative speaker setups for the pool you can connect with one of our friendly advisors here: https://bit.ly/2QNxGQB
