Apple CarPlay™ the wireless way

And now for something new and different — wireless CarPlay. No more cords, no more connecting before every trip. Alpine's iLX-107 digital multimedia receiver features a built-in Wi-Fi connection, so all you have to do is get in and go. The receiver and your iPhone® link right up and you're ready to roll with all the hands-free wonderfulness that CarPlay brings to driving.

Access your iPhone® apps

Looking for a safe, smart way to make use of your iPhone while you drive? Alpine designed the iLX-107 to work specifically with Apple CarPlay, so you can access the apps you need without getting distracted from the matter at hand — driving your car. Your iPhone is already compatible with Apple CarPlay, so there's no need to download any apps.

If you have an iPhone 5 or newer, you can use the sleek, easy-to-use interface to access the all apps you need. The iLX-107 gives you fingertip or voice control over Apple apps like Maps, Music, Phone, Messages, and more. The 7" capacitive touchscreen works just like your tablet, so you'll feel right at home.

Alpine iLX-107

Talk to Siri and activate your favorite apps.

Drive smarter with Siri®

The beauty of Apple CarPlay is that it's designed for drivers. It puts important native iPhone functions on the screen, with familiar app icons that are large enough to be seen and tapped on the screen when you need them. Other info appears on the screen in big, easy-to-read text on a clean, clutter-free background.

You can also activate apps with Siri Hands Free voice commands, using the external microphone that's included with the receiver. Siri lets you make calls, compose texts, select tunes, and start navigation without taking your hands off the wheel. And, in turn, Siri can read your incoming messages aloud to you.

Music and maps

This digital media receiver doesn't have a CD player, but with CarPlay, an AM/FM radio, and rear AUX and USB inputs, you'll never miss it. Browse your iPhone's music for playlists, songs, artists, and albums, or enjoy music apps, like iHeartRadio, Pandora, and Spotify®. You'll also see album art on the big screen.

If you need directions, launch the Maps app to find out how to reach the latest hot spot in town. Want to find the nearest donut shop? Just tell Siri. The big capacitive touchscreen allows you to pinch-to-zoom the map display, so you'll be able to pinpoint exactly where you need to be and, if need be, find a place to park.

Easy accessory control options

If your truck or SUV is equipped with an aftermarket winch, light bar, air compressor, or other electrical accessories, you can control that gear through the iLX-107, too. Just add an optional Alpine KAC-001 external accessory controller to your order.

Sleek design, simple set-up

Since there's no CD player to take up space in the chassis, the iLX-107 is only about half as deep as most touchscreen receivers. That means it will fit into more dashboards with less work. It also means that custom installers can get seriously creative when they're designing your system.

Want to keep your steering wheel controls?

In most cars and trucks, you'll need an adapter to retain those controls with this stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and radio, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. You'll see the adapters that work with your vehicle when you add this receiver to your cart.

iDatalink Maestro lets you keep your factory extras — and add some upgrades

The iLX-107 offers compatibility you won't find in many other aftermarket radios, thanks to the iDatalink Maestro module (not included). The module lets you keep factory features in your Chrysler, Ford, GM, Toyota, Fiat, or VW vehicle that you'll otherwise lose when you install a new radio. You'll also be able to check out expanded functionality on the Alpine's screen, including gauges, climate controls, a distance sensor, and tire pressure and temperature monitors. With select rear-view cameras, you'll even get parking guidelines that curve with the motion of your steering wheel.

Smartphone note: If you're going to use your iPhone with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for compatibility information.

    Remarkable aftermarket headunit

Mark from Guaynabo, PR on 3/10/2019

    2015 Toyota Tundra
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This headunit is amazing! A bit on the pricey side but this upgrade was well worth every penny. I enjoy the Wireless CarPlay feature which allows you to connect your iPhone (using an IPhone X) wirelessly. The screen looks remarkable and the sound that comes out of this headunit is noticeably much better than the factory radio (entune premium stereo). The 9 band equalizer and the Alpine Tnueit app make it easy to fine tune the sound. I didn't really see a problem in the headunit start up when starting the vehicle, other reviews state that it takes too long but I didn't really see this as an issue. Although if you need to revearse immediately when getting into your vehicle the startup does seem to lag. Overall one of the best aftermarket headunit that I have ever owned.

Pros: Powerful sound, with many options, Wireless CarPlay works without issues.

    Cons: 7" inch screen

The A in Alpine is for Awesome

Absolutely love it. The people at Crutchfield got all the goodies together for a easy install. The Alpine ilx 107 is awesome. The features are pretty much a ext. of your iPhone. Very simple to us with the touch screen. I also installed Alpine 45x4 in line amp. No settings on amp. Wiring harness in and out. Sounds great more volume than I ever expected. Installed in a 2017 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport.

Pros: Sound is the number 1 thing. It links to iPhone wirelessly every time.

    Cons: None so far.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I chose the iLX 107 because of the wireless BlueTooth capability with the IPhone with Apple CarPlay. And it works and sounds good. What I wasn't to impressed with is the installation instructions and Alpines and initial vendor support in getting "useful" help. After getting the same incomplete and minimal instructions from the "tech experts", the same info that was in the printed installation booklet , and even after my listing the specific connections that were in question, I returned my initial purchase to the vendor that wanted me to make an appointment to get my question answered. I then purchased the same model, the iLX 107, from Crutchfield, installed it, then called their installation people, got the very specific answer that I needed to finish the install, and now my wife says she really appreciates the BlueTooth hands free operation here in Oregon where its a criminal offense to use hand-held devices. So in conclusion, my wife is happy so I'm happy. Happy with the product, happy with Crutchfield. Thank you [PS... the 4 stars is because of the lack of knowledgeable help from corporate Alpine]

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Really responsive and exceeded expectations. Only minor issues I've noticed: 1) Does take a while to connect to CarPlay via wireless, though not that much better on my other car that only has wired CarPlay 2) Takes a while to boot up, so if I get in the car, turn it on, and start backing out pretty quickly, I won't get my backup camera for a while until after the radio is fully booted up 3) I occasionally get glitches in the navigation (using CarPlay; both Apple Maps & Google Maps) where it can't find me or thinks I am still sitting in a spot after I've left it. Not sure but I think it may be related to the GPS antenna location under the dash? Apparently CarPlay uses the radio's GPS rather than the phone's, since I've never had this issue when using nav on just my phone. 4) My steering wheel controls are a little buggy, but that may be related to the iDatalink adapter. My "track down" button will sometimes register two button presses when I only press it once. 5) Make sure to read the instructions online, as the ones that come with it are very basic! I found out the hard way how to get it to allow me to edit menu settings...for some reason on a manual trans car they want you to put the parking brake on and off TWICE to REALLY make sure you're stopped. Seems silly to me. Just make sure the brake is on once should be good enough. I thought I had a defective radio at first until I found out in the full instruction manual.

Pros: Great Touchscreen, very easy UI & setup, Looks fantastic, Wireless CarPlay is pretty seamless!

Cons: Would have liked a volume knob instead of buttons, but I understand it won't fit in the double-din profile. Would also like to have more than 1 camera input to add a front camera along with the rear camera.

The system works great once you get it going, however, initial set-up has some bugs. I had to set and reset the parking brake several times to get the system to start searching for the phone without getting the "vehicle in motion" alert. Also, by default the back-up camera is off, you must manually turn the camera on. Other than that, I love the interface, even if it is a bit sluggish at times.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This head unit is awesome. We installed this on a 2007 Camry so that our senior mother could drive safer with hands free and also add a reverse camera. The wireless apple play is very easy for her to use. Nothing to plug in, it just works once the car is turned on. Very simple. The dash kit fits so well you cant tell this is aftermarket. It looks like the car came with this unit. We paid the extra cost to have the harness pre-wired and are super happy we did. It was much easier to install.

Don't get me wrong I love the radio, but I feel like it's missing features, and I feel like it needs some updates to fix certain issues, if I knew this radio is nothing without CarPlay I probably wouldn't have bought it, all I use is CarPlay anyways so I don't regret my purchase, but I really feel like either CarPlay or certain apps with CarPlay need to be updated. Other than that it is an alpine it's a great quality great sounding radio, it went great with my matching alpine speakers and subs, all amplified it's so loud I can't hear myself think.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

At first I was not happy with the setup being as expensive as it is. Most of my issues had to do with it being in my 2013 GMC Denali 3500hd. The Onstar was making the bluetooth say "call ended" after all blue tooth notifications. I finally turned that off. The Backup camera takes forever to come up but I think it is because the camera is powered by the truck only when in reverse so it has a serious lag and makes hokking to a trailer difficult. I turned off the Onstar so the Bluetooth works through the stereo, and I am looking at getting a camera swith so I can have mulitple cameras and not use the trucks camera. WAZE!!!!! Ios 12 enabled WAZE for Apple Car Play and I now am happy with the ILX-107!

    Pros: WAZE!, Wireless Car Play,

Cons: Booting is funky. Hard to get to setup due to parking brake game

    2017 Ram 3500
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This CarPlay unit could easily get 5 stars but there are two things holding it back. First is setup screen lockout. This "feature" requires you to give two positive pulses followed by a ground on the yellow blue wire of the unit before you can do things like add a phone or set the screen brightness, or change audio settings like bass and treble. The installation kit suggested by Crutchfield has a black box which is supposed to do this when you apply the parking brake twice. Not very convenient. In the case of my 2017 RAM 3500 the box doesn't work apparently because it doesn't detect the brake release, so applying the emergency brake pulls the wire to ground but without two separate pulses, I remain locked out. After much frustration and even a new black box from Crutchfield, the solution ended up being a push button switch under the dash to pulse the wire when I want to setup the unit. So I apply the emergency brake then pulse the wire with the switch. I could just connect the wire to ground and pulse it without the interlock but it should be safe. This is ridiculous. How can a company like Alpine think this is a desirable "feature". Why not just look for a ground signal? The other issue is screen brightness. Even on its brightest setting, it isn't bright enough to overcome the glare on the screen in my truck. I wish I knew of an alternative wireless CarPlay unit that I could get for the same price that didn't have these two issues.

    Pros: Wireless carplay

Cons: Setup screen lock out and display not bright enough to overcome glare.

    Exceptionally Disappointing

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this product from Crutchfield in October of 2017. I have used it now for about a year and to be honest, the features are rather lack luster. The wireless carplay works, we can leave it at that. Several times when trying to connect a friends phone it didn't work at all (plugged in or wirelessly), froze the head unit and required the vehicle to be pulled over, car shut off for 30 seconds and then restarted to regain a screen image. There is no Bluetooth so if you don't have an iPhone don't even bother getting this. None of the features work while in motion as it mirrors your phone and only allows access to the apps that have official carplay support from Apple (Sound/Subwoofer control is OK, nothing amazing and as far as the AM/FM tuner on it goes, it's complete garbage. There is no HD radio so the clarity of the stations is fuzzy at best (and yes, I have it hooked up correctly). I have been an Alpine user for 15 years and have never been this bummed about a purchase. It won't allow you to see your normal apps (Netflix, internet browsers, social media, etc) and to boot there is no XM radio support so you have to have music on your phone or use Spotify/Pandora. I had hoped to have more functionality for the price I paid. I am honestly considering replacing it and just tossing this one. To throw out a product that cost this much says a lot...

    Pros: Nice Screen

Cons: Buttons are not user friendly Sound Control lacks customization No HD radio Am/FM radio reception is terrible NO Bluetooth No XM Radio Glitches and Restarts intermittently

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

There was an issue at first ordering online which prompted me to call in my order. I was impressed that my online account and the rep had my order pulled right up. Customer service was on point however the rep forgot to process the order and I had to call back on expected deliver day, which was fixed right away. the product I ordered was a few days late. Things happen which is understandable which really did not ruin my experience. This was an Open Box purchase and I have no complaints. As far as this product and its functionality I am really happy. My wife is even more happy. Happy wife happy life. My wife is extremely happy with iOS 12 latest update to use Google Maps, text to speech iMessages, and Amazons Audible ebooks. This is defiantly an luxurious upgrade to the Stock 6 changeable CD rom radio as we tried to use an "optional" aftermarket aux input in our MX5. We were destroying aux cords every few months and trying out different phone mounts in our Ac vent, CD rom tray, rear view mirror, and dash mount. All that just get in the way or fall down. I was at a point where I was looking to build my own Android auto rig using a raspberry pie, however my wife did not want to part ways with our iPhones. Once iOS 12 came out I made the decision to go with iLX-107. Its a lot of wires and took me a few days to make everything pop in and plug and play, I had also decided to buy a box of #10 Security Screws to use due to having a soft top, just to sleep easier at night.

Pros: It boots up pretty quick. and auto connects to the last device. Quick responses. Love the additional features I could have. room to upgrade. iOS 12 opened the doors for better app support. Tune it app makes it awesome to custom eq your speakers Its truly amazing what alpine and apple has done to incorporate Tech into convenience

Cons: Overwhelming wires, I should have had Crutchfield put some of it together for me, I spent maybe 16 hours doing it my self and used RCA to amp. I am not happy having to release the parking e/break and pull back up at a parked/turnkey start up to make the device understand I am honestly parked to change/connect to the iDevices Spotify has some issues with waze and if you don't perform an action on the iphone you never get to see whats playing in spotify forcing a phone reboot to

Best carplay experience I've tried, but beyond that way too limited for the price. This is the only wireless carplay unit on the market, and it performs beautifully in that role. That said, they went so hard into carplay that this unit doesn't do stuff that most half of the price do. Main thing that is the dealbreaker for me is that it has no way to accept any external media (direct quote from Alpine tech support on the phone just now). No ipod, no thumb drive, no ipad. The USB is for software updates and there's no 1/8" aux input. So if you only ever want to listen to what you have on your phone and on streaming services you're all set, but if that is too limiting for you (as it is for me) save several hundred bucks and buy the Sony or Pioneer offering.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Many stereos allow for a wireless Bluetooth connection if all you want to do is play music or answer calls. The moment you want to use Apple CarPlay you have to connect your device via USB.....but NOT with the Alpine iLX-107. The combined WI-FI and Bluetooth connections mean you don't even have to take your phone out of your pocket. Unless you want to charge it, that is. You can use GPS, play your favorite podcasts, answer calls and text messages, all via a wireless connection. And if you couple the Alpine with a wireless Qi charger you can completely get rid of cumbersome cords in your vehicle. The only changes I would make are... 1) Having the option for a 3.5mm in. Not necessary, but a nice option to have. 2) When listening to long audiobooks the radio doesn't remember where you were and if you close the app or your app doesn't track where you left off you have to restart and search because the radio has no memory of it and only mirrors your device. Improving this to restart where you left off like podcasts and such would be great.

Pros: - A true wireless option. I don't plug my phone in at all. I simply rest it on my magnetic Qi charger/holder and it's syncs. - Great sound - Looks good in my vehicle

Cons: - No 3.5mm in - No memory on radio, so if your phone app restarts you lose where you left off listening to certain audiobooks. (Not an issue with podcasts thru the Apple App. Only noticed it with audiobooks in my itunes music so far. Only a minor inconvenience) - Price. Worth it, but I held off buying one for nearly a year because of cost.

This radio does what it says. I think it's still a little overpriced but the wireless carplay has worked seamlessly with my iphone X. I have had some issues with the phone calls where the sometime music was playing in the background at the same time as the phone call. This happens if you make a phone call before the carplay starts your music. So wait until the music starts to make the phone call. It's also a bit frustrating that aftermarket radios cannot handle the OEM microphone. Placing an aftermarket microphone is definitely a deterrent to changing the radio.

So far so good with the Alpine iLX-107. Wireless CarPlay is great... for one device. If you hook up a second device, the system gets confused if the first device goes back in the car. A possible solution will be to use the 2nd device in a wired CarPlay setup, which we may try soon. We like the simplicity of Alpine's interface. It would be even better if the camera option didn't appear on the home screen when a rear camera is connected. The button is not needed since the camera automatically turns on when you go into reverse.

Pros: Wireless CarPlay with one device Interface simplicity

Cons: Wireless CarPlay with multiple devices

Love this unit. The screen is simple and doesn't have the look of most aftermarket radios. I have it paired up with the idatalink maestro and it's fantastic. Wireless car play is well worth the extra cost of this unit. I've had it a week so far and it works flawlessly now. I am LOVING CarPlay - especially wireless CarPlay for short trips. This is so much better than the crappy nav package that came with my Subaru XV Crosstrek. The screen and the rest of the hardware is extremely responsive. On the minuses I miss my volume knob, the iPhone has trained me to expect a much higher resolution screen than is on this unit (but it's not horrible) and the screen is a little washed out and dim in bright light. All things I'm totally willing to live with for the pluses of finally having a unit that doesn't take 4-20 taps to get it to respond and integrates instantly with my iPhone.

It's great WHEN IT WORKS. If no one ever drives your car and you never need to change the settings it works fine. But when my wife drives my truck she can't connect to the deck. After turning it off and on 100 times it finally let me add another phone. Now both our phones are loaded. When I drive it connects mine right away, when she drives it still won't connect. Also even while in park and e-brake engage it still won't allow me to go into phone settings. And I have checked the wiring for the brake 3 times. Very disappointed with this deck at this price point and being ALPINE. If it were a cheaper deck I would understand.

A fantastic product. It's a nice big screen with wireless CarPlay. What more can you ask?

Pros: It's a fantastic unit, and with iOS 12 to come out this fall, it will be even better. Wireless CarPlay is seamless and even auto starts the app that ran last.

Cons: Careplay tends to disconnect if you hit the home button. I'm uncertain if this is a big with apple's iOS or an issue with the head unit. It works most of the time, but in others CarPlay just completely disconnects regardless if it's wired or not. Another issue is that clock doesn't like to keep its settings at times.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I used this stereo for my 2014 fj cruiser without the jbl sound system and combined it with the maestro rr integration module. The sound is much improved even with the factory speakers. The wireless CarPlay is great when you are running errands or short commutes. If I am going to drive for a while i just connect to the usb because it draws down my iPhone 6 battery pretty quick. The look has clean factory look and easy to use. Some of the issues that i did have specifically for my vehicle was the settings on the radio where grayed out due to the parking brake signal not seen through the maestro module. The solution for my vehicle was to wire it directly to the park brake switch but the easier solution for me was to use a micro bypass from amazon instead of pulling up the center console. Another issue i had was the factory usb would not integrate with my iPhone compared to it being connected to the alpine usb. The factory usb connection has a separate icon on the stereo that pops up and needs to be used when plugged in to it. The connection would not produce any sound either so my solution was to get a oem looking usb connector and replace the oem one to plug in directly to the alpine usb. The last issue i hard was with the rear view camera integration is not just plug and play and a wiring schematic is not provided with the maestro rr or alpine. Direct wire in is needed and since it already comes up on my rear view mirror i do not need it.

Pros: Clean factory look and easy to use

Cons: Not just plug and play for full integration for an fj cruiser. The factory mic cannot be used.

Bought this radio about a year ago. Works fine until you will be driving then all of the sudden the volume goes all the way up by itself then you cannot turn it down or shut it off, tried turning car off then on and still volume is still max volume, left car off for a few minutes then restarted and volume was ok, happened many times , called alpine tech support and they instructed me to hold down both buttons to do a reset of radio, within a week it did it again, this time my wife said she heard a beep sound then radio went uncontrollably to max volume and would not turn down or off. I mounted a kill switch now to power wire in the event it goes up uncontrollably again we can kill the power to save our ears and speakers, alpine is not like it used to be in the 80's. The quality is not there any longer. I won't look at another alpine product again and I have alpine in 3 of my 6 cars. My advice to others is look elsewhere than alpine.

I want to give five stars, I really really do. The wireless connect has some problems, 99% of the time it works flawlessly. That 1% is a bear. When I drive by an airport it cuts the wireless in and out, sometimes to the point of disconnecting the phone. This is where the problem occurs, when it knocks it off line, I cannot reconnect unless I do a complete hard reset on the unit. Then all is fine until the next time. Because you have to manually enter the time on this unit, it doesn't pull from phone, I've stopped setting the time. Now I know what your thinking, but I work at the airport so I deal with this twice a day five days a week. So I'm resetting at least twice if not more times a week. So it gets old. When I'm not by the airport this system is awesome, sounds good, looks good, and user friendly. Install was a breeze. I recommend this to everyone who doesn't work at the airport. P.S. the only reason I even mention the cutting in and out thing, is only because I worry about the longevity of system. This can't be good longterm. Five stars otherwise.

We absolute love this radio, but the instructions could be better. The Bluetooth CarPlay is amazing and flawlessly works with our iPhones. The touch screen is responsive and does not wash out in the sun. The unit also sounds amazing. I would not hesitate replacing any unit with this one. It is one of the best I have used. The physical installation was simple and straight forward. The setup was a challenge. Buried inside the master instructions is a note about pressing, releasing, and setting the parking break to enter the setup screens. These screens are used to add a phone and in our case configure the backup camera. We wasted 3 hours and two phone calls with Crutchfield technical support trying to figure out two issues with the unit installation that were ultimately resolved in the setup. Alpine should put the note about entering the setup screens inside it's Quick Guide or installation instruction, not buried in the user manual that needs to be printed. I am giving the unit 4 stars for the poor documentation.

Pros: Clean look, sounds great, simple operation, good sound

Cons: Entering the setup menus, including adding a phone to bluetooth, requires the user to stop, press the parking brake, release the brake, and reset the brake again as a safety precaution. This is overkill.

Wireless CarPlay continues to amaze me, and I think Carplay is my current favorite tech gadget. The sound quality of this head unit is *great*. Oh man, it sounds awesome! I have the preamp-out wired to my factory Bose amp and speakers (via a fibreoptic adapter required by the Bose stuff) and I hear things I never heard with the factory head unit. I don't mind the lack of a volume knob (thought I would). Everything just works perfectly, I have zero complaints. The grey bezel that came with the aftermarket kit is not a perfect match to the existing silver in the dash, but it's darn close.

Pros: Wireless Carplay, obviously. Infinitely customizable sound, including presets that others may have configured (via a mobile app). Looks great and sounds great! And I liked the customizable splash screen as well.

Cons: Parking brake must be set to access the settings menu. Leave this part of the installation out and you will never get to the settings.

Imagine combining the intuitiveness and user experience of Apple with the well-established car stereo quality of Alpine. That's what I discovered with the iLX-107. Now, I'm not a car stereo freak, but I connected the unit to an Alpine amp, two subwoofers and my truck's four door speakers. It sounds awesome and has enormous flexibility with the Alpine Tune app, which gives you the full control of a graphic equalizer on your iPhone. The head unit itself mirrors the functionality of the iPhone, making it a breeze to use. If you still use cd's, you may want to convert them for use on your iPhone, since there is no CD player. But I highly recommend this unit!

Pros: Intuitive user interface, high quality all around

Cons: screen has a slight haze to it, makes me dream of having an OLED screen. But that's really picking nits...

The alpine iLX-107 is a great unit for Siri and music. Love it. Got extra little alpine amp too. Sound is great. Installation is not too bad. Crutchfield was helpful and is worth buying from for support. That said, their wiring harness and ready kit is garbage if you have a Lexus car. The kit came but has zero connections for allowing the air conditioning to work! Seriously. I have a great stereo but no more ac. Why? I think Crutchfield forgot parts. There were no wires to connect the ac and Nav. I don't need or want them in the stereo - but I did expect to still have ac. Seriously. They really didn't test this rig at all. And bc I waited too long to install it, there is no return. Thank God for a company called GTA Kits. They make a wiring harness that lets the ac work and the nav still work and talk. Yes I know I have apple maps so I don't need the nav. But wouldn't you still like ac in your vehicle? Crutchfield let me down hard. Really poor. But thank you GTA for caring enough to text your wiring kits and having info and harnesses that work. You saved me. Not Crutchfield. They sucked for me.

Pros: Alpine unit iwtb wireless CarPlay is awesome. Truly fantadtic.

Cons: Crutchfield and their ready kit sucked. Didn't work. Left me with a paperweight. Had to get help from a vendor who actually tests stuff and makes things to work.

Crutchfield response on 6/6/2018 We apologize for the trouble with the wiring harness, Kirk. This particular harness includes a resistor that needs to be soldered between two wires to retain the climate controls. It's something that is noted in the presentation for the harness, but it certainly should've been more prominent. Thanks to this review, we're reevaluating our presentation for this harness and our ReadyHarness service to better address this issue going forward.

The wireless CarPlay is obviously the highlight, and based on that alone, I'd buy this again. It works generally flawlessly and without issue. The UI on the unit could use a little work in terms of usability , and the lack of presets for the radio (12 FM) is disappointing. It does sound good and looks nice in the dash. Hopefully Alpine will step up with firmware updates and remedy the simple issues in terms of usability. If someone could take the best features of the Sony AVX-200 and this unit and combine them, it would be a game changer.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have a 2012 Chevy Cruze. I ordered this unit, the ready harness service with module to keep OnStar and a module to keep steering wheel controls along with a double din dash kit. I did this because I'm not a pro and newer harnesses are challenging to wire up. My experience is very limited and it's not lost on me that there may not be a vast market for this unit in the kind of car I have, but with the ready harness service, I was hoping everything would be plug and play. Not the case. Two initial problems I had were, no steering wheel control and I couldn't use wireless CarPlay because an error on the unit said it was unable to access while driving even though all plugs were in and the car was in park. After some time with tech support, the only solution was to replace both modules. I decided to drive my car a few feet and then put it back in park. Problem solved with the latter error, still no steering wheel controls though. The last problem I had was with the double din dash kit. Its basically junk, but If you don't have a Chevy Cruze you have no worries. The brackets have to go as far back as possible on the unit which only allows for one screw on each bracket to hold it in place. Why? because the unit will sit so far back it will look like crap if done any other way. Now I'm left with a pivoting effect on the unit. Even after I put a metal clip on the aftermarket dash piece to keep in place, but you can still pretty much remove it easily with your bare

Pros: Wireless Car Play. Super user friendly controls

Cons: Error message with wireless car play connection. Adapter module issues. Cheap quality dash kit.

Tremendous upgrade from the stock 4Runner nav system! I upgraded to replace stock nav system, and to gain access to more vehicle system information thru the OBD-II connection and "gauges" and "tire pressure monitoring system" (TMPS) pages, especially transmission oil temperature since I'm going to be doing a fair bit of towing. The ILX-107 delivers, with the added benefits of wireless CarPlay, for better or worse. Necessitated replacement of the factory microphone (an audio upgrade on phone calls) which I was able to mount in the same location as the factory mic (overhead console) for a clean professional install vice clipping it somewhere. While this path required removing molding, sun visor and a few pieces of the dash, not terribly complicated. Also, was able to use factory GPS antenna and USB with the harnesses available from Crutchfield.

Pros: Full access to a slew of vehicle data thru the gauge screen. Complete customizable integration with all vehicle steering wheel controls with e Maestro RR. Wireless connectivity.

Cons: Gauges _only_ not initialized when starting vehicle with remote starter.

Does what it should do well for the most part. The wireless connection is seamless (after a easy set up) and does allow network pass through (even though it uses WiFi to connect to your phone) so you don't lose connectivity; my phone automatically connects to the unit after about 10-15 seconds when the car starts. Siri works well and the supplied microphone and GPS antenna are great. After using the unit for a week, I have a few small gripes that are worth noting. - The 'mute' and 'volume' adjustments could be better. You have to press and hold 'volume down' for the stereo to mute after a second or two delay. To turn up the volume, you can either repeatedly tap the 'volume up' button, advancing the volume by single intervals, or hold it down to gradually increase the volume (after a slight delay). These delays could be improved. - audio will occasionally drop, but quickly return. This seems to be an issue of the unit-to-iPhone connection, as I have triaged the wiring to ensure the problem didn't lie there. It is very minor, but a nuisance. - the touch screen is not as responsive as one might expect, especially after owning Apple touch devices. It's a bit sluggish and I'll leave it at that. - no audio pause button. If you're in 'maps' and need to pause the audio, you must first navigate to the 'music' app and then pause the music. This might be a one-off since most people probably have this ability on their steering wheel. Overall, I

Pros: Seamless Carplay and great sound

Cons: Settings are somewhat complex for initial setup.

First, it was an easy install. I got this along with the iDatalink Maestro ADS-MRR Interface Module, and iDatalink HRN-RR-CH1 Factory Integration Adapter to replace the 130 radio on my 2016 Jeep JK. I wired these 3 items up on my dining room table, matching color to color. It couldn't have been easier. Not wiring it up in the Jeep allowed me to bundle the wiring up neatly and attach the module to the head unit. From there I bolted on the Metra 95-6511 Dash Kit and brought the whole thing out to the Jeep. From there I plugged in the wiring harness, antenna, USB, OBDII connector, and COAX, bolted it in and reattached the dash and I was done. From there I paired the Alpine with the phone and that was also done. Right away I had CarPlay going. I also had gauges and some EVIC information. Sound is awesome, touch screen is responsive, wireless connection seems to be 100% reliable, etc. I can see the display easily in sunlight and at night. I really have no complaints (except Apple Maps, but that's another story). It's the wireless bit that really makes this a winner. I can leave my phone in my pocket and it automatically connects. Would I buy it again? Today, right now, yes. But the day will come when there will be wireless CarPlay units that have some kind of internal storage for my music, and some kind of navigation, too. Without an iPhone, this unit is not much more than a radio, really, so if you forget it, you have no music. And Apple Maps is awful.

Pros: Wireless connectivity Touch screen Gauges EVIC data Easy installation Look Sound quality, even with stock JK speakers

Cons: Well... CarPlay, really. CarPlay-compatible apps are limited. Apple Maps cannot find a route to my house. The roads are all there, but the main road into my neighborhood refuses to be recognized, so instead of the half mile it would take, it wants to route me 3.7 miles around to the other entrance. I can't trust it. Having said that, this is a "CON" only indirectly.

Wow, what an awesome head unit. The Wireless CarPlay is everything I expected it to be. I get in my car, leave my phone in my pocket and within 8 seconds CarPlay is working. At any point I can plug my phone in to charge and it doesn't miss a beat. It is so seamless, the only way I can tell if it's on wired or wireless CarPlay is because there is a battery indictor on the left CarPlay menu when connected wirelessly. Love the lack of nag screen when I turn on the car. This is the first piece of my system I've installed, so the rest is factory, but the sound quality is significantly improved over the factory unit, using the factory speakers and amp. The screen is very responsive and bright. My only wish is for a volume knob, my car doesn't feature steering wheel controls, so finding the touch volume buttons requires me to look away from the road.

Pros: Wireless CarPlay works perfectly Great sound improvement over stock Very nice looking in the dash.

For the Alpine units, you really need to push the subwoofer pre-out to +12 to +15 to get any usable volume out of it.

I waited awhile to review this, to make sure I did not encounter late-blooming problems, as I did with my last unit (Sony), which had plug-in CarPlay, that eventually had problems connecting. The sound is great. Wiring via the adapter kit sent by Crutchfield was another good exercise to hone my rusty soldering skills (after 3 replacements in a few months, they are getting much better). The mounting frame/adapter makes it look like a factory install. I did not need the extra frame provided with the Alpine unit. The display is easy to read in all but direct sunlight. The cap touch is very fast. Physical buttons are few, and easy to use, once you learn where they are and don't have to look. Siri can be activated by a dedicated physical button or you can just say "hey Siri", as you can on an iPhone. MAIN ISSUE: at least for me, is whether it will easily connect my iPhone when I get in the Jeep. The answer is "yes"...except when I remote start the Jeep from the house, then walk out and get in. At first I thought it was not always connecting properly, until I noticed it only happens when I remote start and am too far for the Alpine to detect my iPhone. Even then, it only requires me to touch settings/devices and iPhone, which is always listed and ready to activate. IF I start when I am in the Jeep, or just a few feet away (and sometimes even if I am far away it will detect) it is no problem at all. And so far, it has been consistent in always connecting when I start o

Pros: Wireless CarPlay, great sound, good display. Excellent customer service on return...above and beyond what was required! Thanks again.

Cons: If out of range of your radio station, unit will not go past the radio icon to let you search for a station. "Settings" is locked out until you do an on/off/on handbrake motion. I've had this unit for about a week now. The iLX-107 is minimalist and beautiful. It's very easy to use and looks great in my Cadillac CTS. I love that you can customize the startup screen. For me though, the jury is still out on this unit. I was super excited about Wireless Carplay, but not so much anymore. Here's why: 1) There is a very obvious 2-3 sec sound delay when using wireless carplay. Some people may not mind but it gets a little annoying, especially if you are trying to skip through tracks quickly. Plus, sometimes on road trips, I'll play Netflix or Hulu for my wife while I drive. The 2-3 sec sound delay is a huge annoyance. Seeing someone's lips move and hearing the words 2 sec later makes the video almost unwatchable. But like I said, this my not be an issue for most people 2) I frequently get distortion in the sound while using wireless carplay, especially when I'm parked at home. This maybe because wireless carplay uses a 5GHz signal, just like many newer wifi routers. 3) I automatically plug my phone in when I get in my vehicle, so the wireless isn't really needed. I really like the way this unit looks, but I'm wondering if it was the best purchase for me. This thing was really expensive because of the wireless carplay, which I am currently not even using (you can turn the WAN off in the unit's menu). *Also, before I installing the headunit, I noticed a small nick in the screen. It's not really noticeabl

For the way I drive, mostly short (multiple stop) trips around town, the wireless feature was a HUGE selling point. Now I just hop in, tell Siri the address of my next job and I'm off - no need to plug in the phone or disconnect it when I get there. For the most part I am very happy. But I gave it 4 Stars, here's why: 1. It required a lot of extra gear. I ended up buying a backup camera and Maestro interface kit to get the performance an features I was looking for. 2. The wrong kit was sent. GM changed models mid-year. I have The later one. Materials sent to me were for the earlier one. Crutchfield support was great and sent corrected materials via expedited shipping but frustrating to have to delay installation. 3. The mounting kit contained 2 right side brackets instead of a right and a left. I had To drill my own holes to make it fit. 4. No HDMI input and the AUX input icon is sometimes visible, sometimes not. This isn't a huge issue as I only use it to watch videos while waiting between appointment (rare) but considering the ease of every other feature, this one seems temperamental.

Pros: Love getting in and out of the car without attaching wires to the phone.

Cons: No HDMI in. Got SD video into the system using adapters, but this seems like a pretty basic thing now days.

If you like Apple CarPlay then this stereo is for you. It does a great job of putting Siri and your media/ maps on your dash. And best of all, it makes everything hands free! I took a star away from the rating because it doesn't seem like there is a way to cache Apple Maps for offline use and I occasionally am in zones with no data. This makes it difficult to establish a route for navigation. In addition, the speed of the interface is limited to the speed of your phone. I'm using a 6 so I occasionally experience lag. I'm sure it would fly with an X or 8. These are not deal breakers and I am happy overall.

I really wanted to like this head unit. As it is there are too many compromises to justify keeping it for our 2015 CR-V. Many of the problems are not the fault of the radio itself but a combination of the vehicle, the integration (Axxess units), and iOS. The following pros/cons lists are limited to only the head unit.

Pros: - Apple CarPlay is a very clean and fast interface. When it works with this head unit it works well. - High quality screen.

Cons: - I originally set up the stereo with one iPhone. With this setup everything worked flawlessly and WiFi connected instantly as soon as the head unit turned on. As soon as we added another the user experience dropped significantly. It would only reliably connect the the first iPhone. We had to delete that iPhone from the head unit before it would connect to the second iPhone (the connect button in the menu did not work). Now it constantly drops the WiFi connection if it ever even connects. The two iPhones were both iPhone X's. - The head unit disables ALL configuration functionality when the car is "in motion". - No support for a second camera. I thought this would be fine but because it treats the lanewatch as a backup camera there is a 2-3 sec delay before the video shows up and th

I am still deciding if I should return the unit. In term of feature, the machine does what it advertised. Wireless CarPlay is all the phone integrated head unit should be, like iphone, it just works. Carplay starts about 5 seconds after the headunit starts, not sure how it does, connection is 99% trouble free. I had issue with connection only once but a restart of the head unit (turn car ignition off and on again) resolve the problem. The problem that prevent it from getting 5 stars is unit freeze from time to time. Maybe memory leak or out of memory or other issue, the machine just freeze up and not response to any input. The issue require restart the car to resolve, which 100% of the time happen when I am driving. I had checked Alpine, no firmware update available yet. A big let down, especially for a 700 dollar unit. That's why I am thinking of returning it. sound quality is a bit better than the replaced AppRadio 3. the tuning app is confusing, I still yet to have chance to play around with it.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Wireless Carplay is awesome - I can leave my phone in my pocket, and have great connectivity and functionality. Let's face it - that's probably the only reason to get this head unit.... It's perfectly fine in any other aspect, I guess... not amazing or anything. It just has wireless carplay. Installation was a bit of a challenge in my 2013 Mazda CX-5.... Here are some tips: For some reason, the wiring and adapter/connector provided with the head unit just left the parking brake, reverse and speed sensor wires separate (not ran to the connector) - *even though the harness from the car provided slots for these things..... I don't know why they didn't just use those available connections - I used pin connectors from another harness to re-pin this one to work. And that worked fine. Couldn't get the stock USB port to work, even with the extra adapter, and steering wheel controls work except for voice prompt (found the separate bluetooth module, but the wiring schematic was wrong), and I still need to tweak the camera to look better..... (*oh - and check the camera voltage; I didn't need the extra 6V adapter, I guess because I used the existing reverse wire instead of running it to a backup light...) but other than that, the unit is nice.

    Pros: Wireless Carplay works great

Cons: Besides wireless carplay, I'd say it's pretty unremarkable.

I updated my wife's 2011 Buick Enclave (non-Bose) with this unit. She takes lots of short drives and not having to plug in each time is a huge benefit. Not having to run a USB was huge as I wanted a very "clean" install. She's already commented how easy it was to make a phone call with Siri. This unit does what it's intended to do and do so very, very well. This is one of the few systems with a capacitive screen (not resistive) and it's great. After using iPhones and iPads for so long, I think using a resistive screen would be very frustrating. A couple of notes about the install: 1. USE Crutchfield's ReadyHarness service! I do a fair amount of wiring in the home and can tell you that for $30, this is money VERY well spent. Will make your install much more enjoyable and cut hours off the process and eliminate any confusion. 2. Though it fits into a double DIN space, the unit is essentially a single DIN unit behind the screen giving you plenty of room to stash cables, etc. 3. The CRUX harness allowed us to use ALL of our steering wheel controls, including activating Siri with the "voice" button on the SW. 4. Wiring the microphone and GPS antenna along the A-pillar was relatively easy in the Enclave. 5. The one tricky part is getting this unit wired into the emergency brake. Crutchfield's cust service was very helpful in locating two places to do this. Ultimately I had to splice the wire and solder the HU wire into it. I didn't want that connection to ever

I put it in a 2000 blazer with din 1.5 factory unit. I was amazed i could not find a mounting bracket adapter, and ended up fabing one out of 20g sheet metal. I then used a 2003 dash bezel. The harness wiring service from crutchfield was awesome and saved me time. Once installed it is really a great upgrade to an older vehicle. This unit is better than my 2017 silverado factory unit (this one is wireless) The sound is good, the interface is nice. I'm not an audiophile, and the default settings sound so good that I'm not even tempted to touch them or download the Alpine tuning app. The radio's native UX/UI (user interface) was allegedly developed jointly with Apple, and functions as anyone familiar with an iPhone would expect. As close as we'll be getting to an Apple Car any time soon. I was actually shocked to find out that Apple's CarPlay was only available through the data/charging cable before the iLX-107 was released. Guess nobody learned a lesson from all of the older cars with 30-pin iPod connectors in the glovebox? Wireless CarPlay has been more or less glitch-free so far, but I'm not going to say that it has been a perfect experience since iOS 11.0.3 has so many issues right now. I cannot blame the radio for iPhone bugs. Realize that Apple limits the apps they will allow to display via CarPlay, and Google Maps, Waze, and all OBD-II vehicle diagnostic/dashboard gauges are not worthy of Apple's blessing right now.....

Pros: Wireless CarPlay Apple-like user interface Not overly complex No nag screen every time you start your car Customizable boot screen

Cons: No CD/DVD player Cannot play MP3 or movie files from a USB flash drive Cannot even connect to non-Apple phones to make a Bluetooth call Limits of Apple's CarPlay keep common iPhone apps off of your dashboard

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've had this deck now for about a month and wanted to share my thoughts, this will be a long review but please read. Pros: 1. Looks great, it fits perfectly in my 2015 Jetta, no gaps, doesn't stick out and the screen is easy on the eyes. 2. Super easy to use the apps like music, texts, phone, maps. 3. WIRELESS CARPLAY! It's freaking great guys. 4. The gauges with the Maestro RR are so cool and wicked useful if you have a limited dash like I do. (No stock temp. gauge) Cons: 1. If I have my maps up, and the passenger uses my phone to do anything, the alpine switches screens to whatever the phone is doing. This sucks when you're trying to follow the map and suddenly it's gone, but your passenger needs your phone to do something. (happens a lot) 2. Siri reads my texts, I don't know about you guys, but I can read a text quickly and still drive without being a risk. There is no way to turn that off, siri will always read your texts which is obnoxious. 3. For my guys who like music - This is the single handed hardest deck to tune. There is no explanation for what anything does and the alpine tuneit app is completely useless as well. My subs are impossible to change from the deck on this and trying to adjust just the door speakers and leave the subs alone is apparently not allowed. I like to have my doors run vocals with minimal bass and my subs to have all the bass, but nope, not possible for whatever reason. 4. My system doesn't sound as good as it di

Pros: Final Review: It's a cool deck, the CarPlay works great and I have no complaints about that aside from what I listed about the app switching out due to the phone. It's easy to use if you want it for just the CarPlay features. Again, I cant say this enough. Tuning your sound on this thing is nearly impossible, nothing is explained as far as what they do, and everything seems to affect something else so it's hard to balance everything out. I wanna give it 2.5 stars because it's cool, but not great.

Cons: Cons Continued. 5. Anytime sun hit the deck, the screen is gone, max bright and its still impossible to see. 6. No knob! I didn't think i would mind, but it is actually super annoying not to be able to change the volume quickly.

I am going to poop on the five star review party here, and add my three star review. The unit is pretty good for the wireless Carplay ecosystem albeit there is some stuttering when using various programs Including Pandora which then require consultation and looking at the Iphone. So the phone needs to be out of pocket occasionally. Where this unit falls down and requires a three star rating are the following: (1) Alpine's crappy Tune It app is required - I do mean required -- in order to make basic changes in the audio. One would think Alpine would have included. (2) Apart from the Carplay which is standard look, the interface is exceptionally drab and uninteresting. (3) There is no alternative Android Auto support. Think about that: For example, no visual Waze or visual Google Maps. (4) There is no HD Radio support. HD Radio is fantastic, and the fact that it is missing here for this price is a real problem. (5) Not sure about SiriusXM, but I think it is not supported if you need it and you can't even add a Siriux tuner apparently. All of these problems are solved with Alpine's own unit the ilx-207 which is a thousand percent better on everything except the wireless Carplay at the same price point. i have both units installed and much prefer the ilx-207. Best of luck with your purchase, this would not be my choice.

I like the unit, but Siri volume is WAY TOO LOW when reading back texts, etc. It is fine when giving directions in maps, but I have to roll up my windows or turn off my AC just to hear texts, etc. This is UNACCEPTABLE for a unit this expensive. I called Alpine twice to talk to someone in the know who can write a firmeware update, but their support is lacking. Also, the Tune-it app is complete garbage... just put all the audio options in the unit itself. Also there's no way to reverse the backup camera image, so I had to buy a new backup camera.

Pros: Wireless and wired CarPlay works and audio is good. Nice menus. Smooth interface.

Cons: Siri volume way too low and no way to reverse camera image.

Great unit and great customer service from Crutchfield. Only gripe is the safety feature that doesn't let you change settings when parking brake is disengaged. I understand that this makes sense for a lot of things but you can't even switch connected phones while vehicle is in motion. Obviously system doesn't take into account that you may have a passenger with you who can tend to such things while you drive. I had this installed locally for a reasonable price. Very clean look, not factory clean but as close as you can get in an aftermarket head unit.

    Pros: Great car play system.

Installed the alpine ilx-107 in a 2010 Honda Fit and it fit perfect with the dash kit and harness provided by crutchfield. I am in complete love with this head unit, the apple car play works great, I can control most of the apps thru the interface that I use. The main ones I use are pandora and apple maps. Things to note on those apps is that you can't input anything new thru the interface, for example adding a station or looking up addresses has to be done on the phone. It's obviously for safety since they don't want you being distracted from the road for too long. The iMessages are read by Siri and you have to reply by voice which isn't always picked up perfectly but that's not a biggie for me. The phone works great and mic picks up your voice pretty well. The capacitive screen is great an picks up your touch very good. Overall perfectly pleased with the unit.

Pros: Newest tech, wireless car play, can charge your phone while being able to control it onscreen, easy to navigate

Cons: Wish you could input addresses in apple maps if parked on screen rather than on the phone

I installed it in my Jeep Wrangler and the gauge screen basically saved my life last week when the heat gauge coil died and I was able to watch my coolant temp all the way home on the stereo. Great sound and power for our 2012 Highlander. I had replaced the factory speakers with Polks 2 years ago, but the OEM unit couldn't ever bring the sound out. This Alpine unit does the trick. My 3rd Alpine - great phone and BT talk quality. Love the carplay, which takes some getting used to. The most difficult part of the installation was getting the BT/App/Carplay connection. The issue was that I had not connected the head unit to my parking brake via one wire. This is KEY to pairing, as you must engage the parking brake for initial pairing. Crutchfield customer service stayed with me on the phone for over an hour to resolve the issue, including using volt meter to find the correct wire for the parking brake. Very happy!

This is the second Alpine unit I have installed in the last couple years . The first was an older ilx-007, which required connection via a lightning cable to function, I liked it very much except I kept forgetting to get my phone from the console. This new unit ilx-107 is perfect , wireless ! it has never failed to connect with my iPhone within five seconds of entering the car, I have already used it to send and receive text messages, phone calls , and get directions, and play my music, all hands-free ! Plus since the phone stays in my pocket I never leave it in my console anymore , installation was fairly straightforward, the only problem was finding the reverse tail light sensor wire for the back up camera, but that is automobile specific and not a fault of Alpine . I am not an installer, nor an automobile mechanic of any kind, just an old guy with a little common sense, and if I can install it I think most people with the proper tools, and a little know how could also. I love this product it is exactly what this old " apple snob " has been waiting for !

Cons: I would like to add and reorder the apps the way I want them, can't seem to do that. I would like deeper controls of the apps and it appears I only get limited functionality while driving. I'd like to add apps and can't figure that one out either. So, it's not perfect, but it's pretty close. My passenger can do the deeper controls with the phone.

Installed in a 2008 Mercedes E550. The installation was time consuming and more complicated than most. I used an Avin fiber optic adapter to keep the factory Harmon Kardon amp and component speakers intact. This head unit really woke up the factory system (louder and bigger bass from the factory sub). Axxess SWC-1 to keep steering wheel controls. I used a Connect2 faceplate (made a very clean look, tried the Metra and it was a poor fit). Reverse camera has a slight delay, picture is great. Apple Maps navigation is a huge improvement over the factory navi system, Siri works well. I am having trouble with "Hey Siri" feature, it's hit or miss, sometimes there is a long delay and it timesout as if it didn't understand me but the built in Siri button works well. I also need to figure out why sometimes people on the other end of a call tell me I sound very far away. Wondering if both of these problems are mic related, I may wire up the factory mic in the future. Overall the system works well, The Media Expander feature really changes the sound for the better, lot of adjustments. The nice thing is it's really a single sin unit with double din face. This really gives you some extra space to work with for your install. (I mounted the steering wheel control and fiber modules on top of the single din to conserve space behind the radio. Screen is bright and responsive, I may turn off the dimmer permanently in the settings because at times it dims and is unreadable

Pros: Quickly syncs wirelessly to phone Excellent sound Lots of sound adjustments Single din space allows for more install room High quality made in Japan Responsive screen

Cons: Lots of wiring for your install Hey Siri feature problematic (for me) No SD card/USB to work in tandem with CarPlay

Installed in a 2011 Xterra Pro-4X to replace the OEM Rockford Fosgate head unit. Good: the new unit sounds great - no need to replace the speakers/amp/sub to further improve sound quality. Alpine controls are intuitive. When it works, wireless CarPlay is great. Bad: touchscreen volume buttons are poor (but luckily I could use an adapter to enable steering wheel controls). Microphone and visor clip are huge - I made a custom mount in front of the instrument cluster. Occasionally CarPlay fails to connect wirelessly and I have to turn Bluetooth off and on again on my iPhone 5S to resolve (toggle airplane mode from the lock screen). Pandora launches successfully only 50% of the time and the app must be killed and restarted on my phone to recover (all other CarPlay apps work great). Wireless CarPlay rapidly drains my phone's battery, so I don't use it for drives longer than 1 hour. Be sure to install a USB connection to the head unit for use of CarPlay on longer drives.

Obviously, if you are looking at the iLX-107, you are here because of wireless CarPlay. This unit doesn't disappoint. I installed this into a 2011 Silverado LT. I took out a Rosen Carshow GM1210, which is basically a plug and play aftermarket unit for GM Trucks. I wanted a better integration with my phone, because entering an address in the navigation is a huge pain when you have to manually type it in. However, I was worried that I would lose factory functionality by doing so, like my XM radio, steering wheel controls, warning chimes and such. Luckily the idatalink Maestro RR comes to the rescue and retains all of that functionality and adds even more (gauges, vehicle info, etc). The iLX-107 is by far a better experience. Take the advice of everyone here who has installed this already, you will not be disappointed. Some cons people list are lack of knobs for volume, tuning, etc, however that is no issue, (for me anyway) because my steering wheel controls do the job. I have factory speakers in my truck, and the sound is still very good. Download the Apline TuneIT app and you can load all sorts of audio configs to tweak the sound to your preference. Wireless CarPlay works seamlessly, and your phone will pair within seconds of starting your vehicle. If you have a backup camera, its almost an instant "on". My old unit would sometimes take up to 10 secs to turn the camera on...thats a long time when you just want to go.

Pros: Wireless CarPlay Using Siri for entering navigation destinations idatalink integration Apline TuneIT app for adjusting sound

    Cons: Zero

This is what I was looking for but Alpine still needs to work on improvement. The connection to the phone works well and automatically connects. The HU allows me to mirror the phone, use Siri for calls and to respond to text and, use map apps. Not all apps are supported by CarPlay. There still is a need for a volume knob, the volume touch arrows are too small and there is a delay when using the touch screen which is very aggravating when driving. The HU was very easy to install but there is some wiring to splice into the wiring adapter, do the splicing on a table before installation. Installed in a 2017 Jeep Wrangler and intially for several days could not get CarPlay to connect, the excellent customer service rep at Crutchfield stayed with me until we solved the problem, which was the emergency break position switch. The break was engaged and showing engaged on the dashboard indicator, but the switch was not completely made to tell the HU. I engaged and disengaged the break in different positions until the HU permit was satisfied. I had also sent a help request to Alpine, but received no response. Thanks again Crutchfield. I installed this unit to rejuvenate a 2007 Ford Escape Hybrid, upgrading from the OEM unit. Used Crutchfield's ReadyHarness service, which was a huge time-saver. All-in-all, it is a major improvement over the OEM in every way. The iPhone handshake is simple and works seamlessly in the background. Only drawback is a slight delay (fraction of a second) in drawing the maps over wireless - haven't tried over USB to see if it is still delayed. On highway, it's no big deal, but in close quarters there is a risk of going through an intersection before the map knows you're there to tell you to turn.

This is exactly what I was looking for. Unit that supports CarPlay without any additional interfaces/nav/etc. It does have radio/sat which I'd prefer it didn't even include but comes straight into CarPlay if last mode used so never have to see it. Wireless is a great feature, especially if making a lot of short trips and leave iPhone in pocket. The screen is great and the best I've experienced in a car. Once you try this you will avoid anything that doesn't have a capacitive screen. This unit would be perfect if it didn't have cheap fake chrome around screen and buttons. Not sure why buttons are needed when could have been capacitive ones like the rest. Guess you can find without looking but I'd rather they weren't there at all. The only technical issue I've experienced is I can't customize the startup screen because it rejected every USB stick I've tried ("USB device not supported" message). I've tried 10 different brands, sizes, etc to no avail. This will be a more serious issue if I ever need to update the firmware of the unit. Installed in a Jeep Wrangler.

Pros: Wireless CarPlay Doesn't have lots of other redundant junk Touch screen is quick and sensitive

Outstanding system - it's so nice to see a system that looks like it could be factory original. Too many of the aftermarket head-units look, cheap and flashy - like they're trying too hard to impress (a real embarrassment to install compared to the OEM units.) But this unit is elegant, mature, refined and delivers on its promise - a wireless CarPlay unit. it is a very professional and high-grade unit. This unit does not disappoint, it works flawlessly with CarPlay and is a logical extension of your iPhone. If you expect your iPhone to be your primary system for phone, media and text messages, this is the unit for you. This unit doesn't support Android or Bluetooth, which is a shame in the grand scheme of things, but it's primary purpose is wireless CarPlay and It does this so perfectly. Your iPhone becomes part of your car's system, making it a seamless experience - Siri is a welcome and useful part of your driving experience. So overall, the look, feel and user experience of this system is excellent. It looks and feels OEM but gives you wireless CarPlay - which can't be found by an OEM at this price. I recommend this to everyone who wants CarPlay in their car. I wish it was more flexible to support Android, but right now this unit sets the bar.

Pros: Wireless CarPlay is amazing and ahead of the pack. Looks like OEM - not cheap and flashy like other aftermarket unit. Smaller size compared to Double-DIN makes fitting all wires and module into the dash easier.

Cons: No bluetooth support - that was clear from the start, but it would be nice to have that.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Alpine really has hit a home run with this unit. It has exceeded my expectations in every single way except for one which I'll get to later. The boot-up time, speed and reliability of the wireless connection, screen quality, interface fluidity and responsiveness...it's all fantastic. I opted to finally put a back-up camera on my truck and I'm really glad that I did, it's very convenient when hooking up to my boat, I don't have to get in and out of the truck a bunch of times just trying to line up the hitch just right. Pro tip on this, if you're going to get a back-up camera, you don't need to break the bank to do so. The iLX-107 can only accept connections from VGA sources, so you're capped on resolution. I picked up a really decent camera for less than $20 on Amazon. Now, as for the single disappointment I have with this unit: volume control, especially with Siri. This unit allows for individual customization of volume levels for things like phone calls, alerts, Siri, and media volume. However, these are capped to 11, when you max it out, that's all you get. I have Siri turned up to 11 and while that's a fine volume for when I'm sitting still, when moving there is enough ambient noise (in my truck, anyway) that it's difficult to hear Siri. This is also the case when navigating, it's hard to hear the directions. Why this limitation? It just doesn't make any sense, if I want Siri to scream at me, why can't I do that?

Pros: Fast, stable connection, great audio quality

    Cons: Quiet Siri

Cons: The talk text is a little much. I appreciate the repeat before sending, but it just seems to take a bit especially when siri doesn't hear you correctly. Can't be used with the doors and top off on the freeway.

I have installed two of these so far one in my 2008 Honda Ridgeline and a second in my mom's 2005 Acura RSX Type S. Based on short term experience I'll probably have to break down and get the wife one too. The most recent app enabled head unit I installed was a Pioneer AppRadio 3, which came out just prior to CarPlay being released a few years ago. Comparing to the Alpine the old AppRadio the older unit has a really rigged up way of connecting to the iPhone with tons of cables and adapters. So from horrible wired setup to no wires is a HUGE bonus/upgrade. Also CarPlay is a much more user friendly interface much easier to navigate. Overall I bought this for wireless CarPlay and it does the job perfectly, lets be honest thats all it is really designed for and it shines. I haven't had any issues it links right up when I get in the car in a few seconds of starting. I so far have been using Pandora primarily for my in car tunes and it starts right back in Pandora each time without any intervention. The steering controls work great and Siri is very responsive for reading and responding to texts the few times I've needed to. I was able to hide the mic in the factory location in the Ridgeline and it still picks up well and I've done a few test calls with folks and they've all said they could hear me very clearly but like all speaker phones it sounds like a speaker phone. Everything functions great and very responsive overall. Not directly related to the head unit but the

this unit replaced an alpine ics-x7hd,thus I will compare the 2. my setup: alpine amplifier driving front aftermarket speakers, alpine amplifier and sub. the good: wifi, it's pretty the bad: tuner app random quits on different FM stations, sometimes after 5 minutes, sometimes after half an hour. compared to hd radio ,regular fm doesn't sound that good, thus I am not planning on using the tuner. I knew that not all my music apps will work with carplay, I am ok with that. the part I don't like is that even the approved ones like tunein will not always resume the music. podcast or youtube music so far worked ok. I was expecting better sound than previous unit, but I guess that unit was good enough because I don't see much improvement. I stream music at 320kbps and itunes music I have tried the tuneit alpine app but did not mastered it. just a few changes I was able to apply so far ,I will try to fine tune it some more. Hopefully some software update will fix the tuner issue.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Excellent Carplay receiver and outstanding support from Crutchfield. We installed an ILX-107 into a 2011 Subaru Outback this weekend. We got everything connected successfully . Steering wheel controls control the ILX-107, so we can access Siri, answer and hang up the phone, change the volume, skip forward on Pandora, etc., all from the steering wheel controls as well as from the the unit itself. Wireless works well: iPhones can be connected either through a Lightning cable (we added a USB-3/Aux Port connector, since our 2011 didn't have native USB) or wireless. With ILX-107 and Carplay, we can control the phone from the unit, and we can control what's playing on the unit from the phone--with or without plugs. Setup instructions from Crutchfield were very good. We got everything installed with just a couple calls to tech support (and the tech support guys are nothing short of awesome). The first problem we had was with a trans-gender wiring problem: a pink wire in the Subaru wanted to be blue. Once we straightened that out, we had sound to the speakers. The second problem was with instructions from the Axxess steering wheel control that didn't match the wiring diagrams for the Outback. A call to Crutchfield tech support straightened that out as well, and everything worked on the first connection. Bottom line: The receiver works great, the install looks almost factory quality, wireless Carplay works great, and Crutchfield support is awesome.

Pros: No wires needed for Carplay. It just works. Sound is excellent Good control on audio paramaters, with basical treble and bass control., mutiple enhancement modes, equalizer presets, etc. Phone, messages, navigation, and audio steaming works pretty much flawlessly through Carplay. No need to muck with the phone to get things to play. Unless you want to.

Cons: No Android support No stand-alone navigation No HD Radio Limited Carplay supported apps No video

Bottom line up front... wireless CarPlay is AWESOME... and it works seamlessly. Longer answer: 2nd CarPlay radio I have owned. Love my Pioneer... but annoying to always need to plug the phone in... Wanted to surprise Wife for birthday so went the extra $$ as she hates having to 'plug in' in my car. Minimalist system... few bells & whistles... no DVD/SD/etc... no HD Radio or satellite... basically 'normal radio' and CarPlay. It has backup Cam ability but I didn't install one. Had challenges getting Alpine to decide my 2006 tahoe was not moving (to enable text/setup modes) but once I solved that we were up and running. Wireless CarPlay works perfectly and audio sounds awesome. Wife couldn't be happier. If you want lots of 'extras' this may not be your answer... and if you are willing to plug in ever time you can get a lot more for less $$... but it does what it does really REALLY well. Beautiful 7" screen, flawless wireless CarPlay and excellent radio. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED if it meets your needs. Didn't think wireless CarPlay was 'that big' a deal... til you have it. Awesome!!

Pros: WIRELESS!!!! Works perfectly, hooked up before you back out... Great sound Beautiful/large display

Cons: minimalist... normal (non HD) radio & CarPlay... and that is about it A bit expensive for what it is... but wireless CarPlay is AWESOME

Works as advertised. As in, the time machine WORKS AS ADVERTISED. As in, the goose that lays golden eggs WORKS AS ADVERTISED. Bravo to Alpine for working with Apple to make this happen. The world's leading first and second market car stereo manufacturers can pat themselves on the back for delivering great head units that require a cable to work with an iPhone. I say shame on them. I USED to use a cable to connect my portable CD player to my Audi cassette deck...a third of a century ago. It's 2017 now. Why are people so satisfied plugging their phone into their dashboard??? Some bullets: * I waited six months for Alpine and Apple to get their act together. It was worth the wait. * I paid top dollar to buy this and all the steering wheel control, bezel, wiring adapter etc etc accessories from Crutchfield and so glad I did. Their customer service, technical help, installation instructions etc etc are so much worth more than the price difference I would have saved off an differnet web site from some unknown seller. BUY YOUR STUFF FROM Crutchfield if you are a DIY person like me. * The Alpine unit boots up right away, automatically connects to my iPhone 5SE and lets me do Pandora, Apple Music, Spotify, Amazon Music and all the other Carplay apps. * The USB port only recognizes iPhone 5 and up - I thought I could use an flash drive but no. If you're an iPhone user - you can't do better. If you're an Android user - keep looking, this isn't the deck for

I absolutely love this head unit. Wireless CarPlay is a must have once you tried it. I start the car and within a couple seconds it's connected. The connection is far more reliable that my old Bluetooth connection and I haven't had to deal with pairing issues which is really nice. At first I was a bit disappointed in the lack of control over the eq, etc. My first thoughts were "This thing is this expensive and I cannot even dial it in beyond bass, mids, and treble's levels?" Turns out there is an app for tuning this thing. Music production is a hobby of mine and I love dialing in a stereo to sound perfect. This app is amazing! Totally free. And I never have to worry about losing my settings if I need to unplug my battery. I'be been incredibly happy with this purchase and would easily do it again.

Pros: - Wireless CarPlay - Simple to use - Tons of tools to create sound profiles

Cons: - No CD player (This might matter to some but if you're like me, you left cd's behind a long time ago.) - No real cons. I haven't been this satisfied with a purchase in quite awhile.

Really awesome! I installed in my 2012 tacoma, and Crutchfield was great helping with the integration and installation. Shipped fast, and Crutchfield had amazing support. I am seriously blown away by how much they support knows about every system. they really are the specialists. save yourself some time and buy your stuff from them! might be a little more expensive, but it is seriously well worth it! I almost bought all the stuff online elsewhere myself, but would have taken me weeks to install because I wouldn't have known about which additional components to use, which ones are the best, and which ones give you the most functionality etc... their installation instructions were solid. I only called support once during the install, and when they answered they already knew my name, my car, my order, and knew how to help me within 1 minute. I preordered this back in January, well worth the wait. Super happy! Buy it from Crutchfield,

Cons: Some notes, it takes about 10 seconds for carplay to link up wirelessly after starting your car. a little longer than what i had before, but so worth it. I will say that i wish it was a little bigger as the dash frame that surrounds it has some wasted space, but I knew what i was getting into, it is meant to fit a din so cant change from that. Great improvement over the original iLX-007. Wireless CarPlay fully realizes the potential of iPhone-driven infotainment. The capacitive touchscreen is vastly better than the resistive options from OEM systems or other aftermarket brands. The flush appearance is beautiful in any dash. For truck people, the 12V expandability is a huge value add. Those with older vehicles can easily bring their in-car experience to the 21st century without breaking the bank. Great overall product.

I installed an ILX-007 in my previous car and was very impressed with Alpine's speed and reliability compared to another not-to-be-mentioned unit that claimed to do everything under the sun but really did nothing well except rebooting and crashing. For my next vehicle I wanted wireless CarPlay, and waited for the ILX-107 to launch. After many months of delays and waiting anxiously I have to say it actually was worth it. I'm super impressed, the ILX-107 is just like the ILX-007 but with wireless, which is all I wanted. The whole thing works well, you can pair up to four phones so passengers can also control and play music/navigate, wireless hasn't dropped out ever and has no loss of fidelity, and the unit has a dedicated GPS which I would guess frees up some of the phone's resources and battery power so it doesn't burn up in your pocket. I wasn't planning or expecting to have to install a GPS but found a place for it, and the antenna is relatively small. The rest of the install went just like the ILX-007. I guess my only wish was that Alpine had fewer small harnesses and just one big one, but that's minor. Overall no real complaints, it just works.

Pros: Just as good as ILX-007, but wireless. Doesn't try to do too much.

Cons: Doesn't do Android Auto (but I couldn't care less), doesn't play CDs (also could not care less)

    Apple Carplay at it's best.

If you want exceptional sound quality, quick responsive touchscreen and the best Apple Carplay reciever on the market, this is for you. I have tried a lot of Apple Carplay decks (Pioneer, Kenwood, Sony), and this beats them all hands down. Wireless car play works perfectly, every time (once you properly set it up). The touch screen is VERY responsive, just as responsive as the iPhone and does not wash out in direct sun nearly as much as others do. The sound quality is AMAZING, which is what Alpine is known for. You can set the level of sound shaping that you want using just Treble and Bass controls or by setting a custom equalizer setting or one of 9 presets. This unit doesn't try to stuff a lot of unnecessary horns and whistles in this unit, and the smooth scrolling and quick command responses shows that Alpine concentrated on making the best Carplay unit on the market. They didn't put fancy graphics on here nor does this do Android Auto or Bluetooth Audio or phone. If you looking for that keep looking. It has Steering wheel control, Mic, USB (for wired CarPlay if you would rather plug in), Front, Back and Sub Pre-outs all included. The only real thing I wish it had was HD Radio, but I can live without that. One negative is that the instructions in setting up the wireless Carplay is a bit confusing and talks a little bit in a circle, but once you figure it out, it's a piece of cake. There are u-tube videos showing how to do this. HIGHLY RECOMM

Pros: Very Responsive Touch Screen, Flawless Wireless (Wifi) Apple Carplay, Amazing sound, Solid build, Easy to follow and logical user interface.

Cons: No HD Radio, Instructions for setting up wireless carplay is somewhat confusing.

Wireless Apple CarPlay: The Alpine iLX-107 is first aftermarket wireless Apple CarPlay in-dash receiver for the vehicle. The award-winning iLX-107 allows you to seamlessly access your iPhone 5 or newer device on the receiver's touchscreen without having to stop and connect a cable every time you get in the vehicle. The iLX-107 can wirelessly pair with up to ten iPhone 5 or newer devices (running the latest iOS version) via built-in 5GHz WiFi and 2.4GHz Bluetooth. However, only one can be connected and used at a time. Once you have initially paired your iPhone 5 or newer devices, the the iLX-107 will automatically connect to the device each time the vehicle is started and without having to stop to take your phone out of your purse or pocket.

    Notes:
    • Apple CarPlay is compatible with iPhone 5 or newer running the latest iOS version.
    • Your vehicle's parking brake will need to be engaged to initially wirelessly pair your iPhone device and the iLX-107.
    • In addition to wireless connectivity, you can connect your iPhone 5 or newer running the latest iOS version to the iLX-107 via USB.

iPhone Compatibility: The Alpine iLX-107 and Apple CarPlay is compatible with the iPhone 5 and newer running the latest iOS version. Your compatible iPhone can be connected to the iLX-107 wirelessly via built-in 5GHz WiFi and 2.4GHz Bluetooth, or via USB through the receiver's rear-panel USB port, the included USB extension cable, and your iPhone's Lightning-to-USB cable.

    • Wireless Connection: A wireless connection between your compatible iPhone device and the Alpine iLX-107 is made via 5GHz WiFi and 2.4GHz Bluetooth. Make sure your iPhone's Bluetooth & WiFi settings are turned On; plus make sure the receiver's WLAN menu setting is turned On. Your vehicle's parking brake will need to be engaged to initially pair the iLX-107 with your compatible iPhone device. You will not be able to pair your iPhone when the vehicle is motion or without the parking brake engaged.
    • Wired Connection: A wired connection can be made via USB, using the receiver's rear-panel USB port, the included USB extension cable, and the Lightning cable that came with your compatible iPhone device. If you choose to use a wired connection, only use the included USB extension cable for Apple CarPlay. Do not use a 3rd party USB extension cable (proper Apple CarPlay functionality cannot be guaranteed through a 3rd party USB extension cable). Also, make sure to use the Lightning cable that came with your iPhone or an "Apple Certified" Lightning cable (sold separately - see Accessories tab).

Apple CarPlay: Apple CarPlay is a smarter, safer way to use your iPhone or newer device in the car, while you stay focused on the road. Apple CarPlay takes the things you want to do with your iPhone while driving and integrates them into the Alpine iLX-107. Apple CarPlay offers an incredibly intuitive way to make calls, view maps, listen to music, and access messages from your compatible iPhone through the Alpine iLX-107 in-dash receiver. With Apple CarPlay, you can control these functions from the iLX-107 receiver's 7" capacitive touchscreen or activate Siri for minimized distraction.

Note: In order to use CarPlay your compatible iPhone device will need an active Data Plan account with connection to the Internet via 3G, EDGE, or LTE (4G).

Navigation Maps: The power and simplicity of Apple Maps comes to your dashboard; complete with turn-by-turn direction, traffic conditions, and estimated travel time. You can enter a new destination or choose a favorite or recent destination using the head unit's touchscreen or by simply asking Siri. CarPlay can also predict where you most likely want to go using addresses from your email, text messages, contacts, and calendars. If you have iOS 12.0 or newer on your iPhone with the latest version of Google Maps or Waze, you can choose to navigate via the Google Maps or Waze application instead of Apple Maps. Google Maps and Waze do not support Siri voice control, but will have their own proprietary voice control function which has to be accessed through a touchscreen icon on the receiver.

Note: The iLX-107 features a built-in GPS receiver, comes with an external GPS antenna, and is outfitted with a vehicle speed sensor (VSS) wire to optimize CarPlay's Apple Maps. The GPS antenna should be mounted on top of the dashboard near the front windshield, while the VSS wire connects to your vehicle's speed pulse wire to accurately gauge the direction, location, and speed of your vehicle.

Phone: With Apple CarPlay, you can use the iLX-107's interactive touchscreen or ask Siri to make calls, return calls, and check voicemail. To dial a phone number, simply tap the "Phone" icon and Siri will ask you who you want to call. Using the touchscreen you can manually enter a phone number from the on-screen keypad, scroll through contacts, or select from recent and miss calls. In addition, you get access to your voicemails via touchscreen and Siri. When a call comes in, simply tap the "Phone" icon to answer. You'll carry on your side of the conversation through the included external microphone, while the other party is heard through your vehicle's speakers.

Note: You can increase or decrease the volume level of the microphone. You can also select which car speaker outputs the caller audio; you can select All, Front-Left, Front-Right, or Front-Left/Right.

Text Messages: Apple CarPlay also lets you enjoy a better and safer way of text messaging with friends and family when you're on the road, through the Alpine receiver and Siri. Through your voice commands, Siri can send, read, and reply to your text messages so that you never have to glance at your phone while behind the wheel. When a new message comes in a banner will come across the screen and Siri will read back the message for you.

Note: Text messages cannot be read or typed from the head unit's touchscreen to prevent driver distraction.

Music Library: CarPlay lets you access your music in your iPhone's music library, plus iTunes radio from the Alpine iLX-107. You can browse your music by Playlist, Artist, Song, etc.. just like you would on your iPhone from the iLX-107's touchscreen. You can also use Siri to find and play back your music. The iLX-107's touchscreen will display song/artist information, as well as album art in the background.

Now Playing: Tap the Now Playing icon on the Alpine receiver's capacitive touchscreen and see song, artist, album information with Album Art displaying in the background. From the Now Playing screen you also get basic playback function, like Play/Pause, Previous Next/Track, Fast Forward/Rewind, and Repeat/Shuffle.

Audio Apps & Podcasts: CarPlay also supports additional audio apps that you've downloaded to your iPhone for enjoying podcasts, music, and radio. Control them from the head unit's touchscreen or Siri just like you would from your iPhone. Your iPhone's touchscreen remains unlocked during CarPlay connection, so you are able to access additional music apps and listen to them through the Alpine receiver; however these apps offer no control or display information from the head unit's touchscreen. Current supported apps include (fees may apply):

Note: Apple continues to add more apps to CarPlay.

Other Functions: Within the CarPlay's touchscreen menu is a circular icon which acts like the back button on your iPhone. In addition there is an "Main Menu" icon which exits CarPlay and takes you back to the Alpine receiver's Home Menu.

7" Capacitive Touchscreen: Through its 7" capacitive touchscreen the Alpine iLX-107 is designed for use in the car with your iPhone 5 or later device (running latest iOS version) and Apple CarPlay. The 7" capacitive touchscreen boasts a 800 x 480 resolution (1.15 million pixels) with a 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio. The capacitive touchscreen requires less pressure, responds faster, and can recognize multiple touch points simultaneously; all advantages when compared to traditional resistive touchscreen displays.

    • Picture Settings: You can adjust the touchscreen monitor's color, contrast, sharpness, and brightness; plus save two presets.
    • Backlight Control: You adjust the brightness of the LCD backlight from -15 to +15. You can then select one of the following modes for the LCD's fluorescent backlight - Auto (adjusts the brightness of the background illumination based on the ambient light in your vehicle), On (keeps the background illumination of the monitor dark), or Off (keeps the background illumination of the monitor bright).
    • Custom Background Image: You can set the image file for the opening screen by copying your desired BMP image file (800x480) from a USB memory device.
    • Clock Display: The iLX-107 lets you select between a 12 hour or 24 hour clock.

Note: For safety and legal reasons, the iLX-107 features a video lock-out feature to prevent the driver from viewing a video source while the vehicle is in motion. To watch a video source, the vehicle must be stopped with the parking brake engaged and the ignition in the ACC or ON position. This also includes advanced setup menus. CarPlay does not require Parking Brake.

Hard-Key Controls: Conveniently located volume, track, home, and Siri hard keys are accessible along the bottom edge of the 7" touchscreen monitor for quick access and simple control. You can adjust the brightness of the button illumination at night with the monitor's Auto dimmer function or manual from -2 to +2.

Siri "Eyes Free" Voice Control: The Alpine iLX-107 provides Siri "Eyes Free" Voice Control via Apple CarPlay and the included mic for a safer driving experience. By pressing the dedicated "Siri" button on the front-panel and using the included external microphone, you can tell Siri what you would like to listen to, where you want to go, and who you want to call or text. The external microphone features a 12.5' cable which plugs into the back of the receiver and comes with a mounting bracket which can be clipped to the sun-visor or taped to the dash.

Note: Siri "Eyes Free" Voice Control only works with functions of your connected iPhone 5 or newer device. The iLX-107 does not offer voice control over head unit functions like audio and menu settings or input selection through Siri.

Steering Wheel Remote Compatibility: The head unit features an 3.5mm steering wheel remote control input on the rear of the unit that lets you keep your vehicle's factory radio steering wheel remote controls when used with an optional steering wheel audio control adapter (sold separately).

Accessory Control Ready: You can also use the iLX-107 to control external accessories like a light bar, motorized tonneau cover, or winch when used with the optional KAC-001 External Accessory Controller (500KAC001, sold separately). The KAC-001 works with up to eight relay-connected accessories which can be controlled from the iLX-107's touchscreen. A graphical icon and name can be assigned to each accessory for quick identification on the touchscreen.

    Audio & Tuner Section

CTA-2006 Compliant: The specifications given by Alpine for the built-in amplifier comply with the CTA-2006 mobile amplifier power testing and measurement standards from the CTA (Consumer Technology Association). All manufacturers who comply with the standard can display the CTA-2006 logo on their product.

    • CTA-2006 Power Rating: 18 watts x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20-20kHz, 1% THD)
    • Max Power Output: 50 watts x 4 channels
Note: Add the KTP-445A (500KTP445A, sold separately) Head Unit Power Pack to deliver 45 watts x 4-channel RMS of power. The KTP-445A is compact enough to install behind the Alpine receiver. It plugs in-line with the head unit's wiring harness, so you don't even need additional wires.

6ch/2V Preouts with Subwoofer Output Control: The iLX-107 has three sets of 2-Volt RCA pre-outs (Front/Rear/Sub) for connection of external amplifiers. The unit's front and rear preamp output can be faded (front/rear), while the subwoofer preamp output is non-fading. The subwoofer output level can be adjusted independently from the main volume setting (0-15); so even at low volume settings the subwoofer is still audible. The subwoofer output phase can be set to Normal (0°) or Reverse (180°).

Equalizer: The Alpine iLX-107 digital media receiver is equipped with Tone controls, a Preset EQ, and Alpine's very owner Bass Engine SQ.

    • Tone Control: You can independently adjust Bass & Treble from -7 to +7 in order to tailor the system's sound to your preference.
    • EQ Preset: 10 typical equalizer settings are preset at the factory for a variety of music source material. Choose from Flat, Pop, Rock, News, Jazz, Electronic, Hip Hop, Easy Listening, Country, and Classical.
    • Bass Engine SQ: Alpine's Bass Engine SQ optimizes the sound for all speakers in the vehicle according to the music genre and mood for well-balanced and effective bass sound. Select from six Bass Engine SQ Types - Standard (Natural low-pitched sound), Punch (boosted bass sound), Rich (rich low-pitch sound), Mid Bass (emphasizes presence of upper bass), Low Bass (emphasizes presences lower bass), and Off (bypasses Bass Engine SQ).

Audio Enhancements: The iLX-107 provides Media Xpander and Application Volume Level to enhance your listening experience no matter what source content you are listening to.

    • Media Xpander: Alpine's exclusive Media Xpander is engineered to bring out the musical details lost in compressed media, and it is adjustable per source to get the most out of your digital audio media. The Media Expander makes vocals or instruments sound distinct regardless of the music source. Apple CarPlay, FM Radio, and AV input sources will be able to reproduce the music more clearly even in vehicles with a lot of road noise.
    • Application Volume Level: The output level (+/-14dB) of each source can be individually adjusted. For example, if the Tuner level sounds lower than CarPlay or Aux, its output can be adjusted without affecting the other sources.

Alpine's TuneIt App: The Alpine TuneIt app is an easy-to-use sound-tuning app that also offers Facebook notifications. Download this free app from the Apple Apps Store onto your Apple iPhone with Lightning connector (iOS 9.0+ ) and create a user profile about your vehicle and sound system. Your compatible iPhone must be connected to the iLX-107's rear-panel USB port and 12.5' USB extension cable via Alpine's KCU-471 Lightning-to-USB cable (500KCU471I), sold separately), the cable that came with your iPhone, or other Apple certified Lightning-cable (sold separately). Your iPhone will also need an active Data Plan account with connection to the Internet via 3G, EDGE, or WiFi.

    • Sound Tuning: The Alpine TuneIt App turns your iPhone into a sound tuning interface for the iLX-107. Follow the simple graphical instructions on your phone to adjust sound settings for your specific vehicle or choose from pre-made settings in the database. Settings that can be adjusted include Time Correction, Crossover Network, and 9-Band EQ. As you change settings on your smartphone, you will hear the results, so you can customize the sound to exactly how you want it. You can make and save up to 100 different sound settings in your account, which is helpful if you want various settings to use for specific types of music. After tuning your system, upload your settings to the Alpine Cloud Server to share them with other Alpine fans. You can also check out other user's settings and rate them. The more active you are, the higher your profile status progresses within the app.
      • Time Correction: This unit is able to delay the audio signal to the speakers closest to the listener with its built-in Time Correction feature. This effectively creates a perception of increased distance for those speakers. Time Correction allows the listener to be placed at an equal distance between the left and right speakers for optimum staging. You can adjust the distance (0-336.6cm) or time delay (0.0-9.9msec) of each speaker and subwoofer to the listener. You are able to save three time correction presets.
      • High-Pass & Low-Pass Crossovers: This unit is equipped with active high-pass and low-pass crossovers which limit the frequencies delivered to the speaker and line-level outputs. Each speaker channel is controlled independently, so each speaker pair can be driven by the frequencies for which have they been optimally designed. The crossover adjusts the HFP (high pass filter) or LPF (low pass filter) frequency point of each speaker pair, and also the slope (how fast the filter rolls off the highs or lows). High and low pass frequencies can be set to 20Hz, 25Hz, 31.5Hz, 40Hz, 50Hz, 63Hz, 80Hz, 100Hz, 125Hz, 160Hz, 200Hz, or Off (through). The slope of the high or low pass filter can be set to 6, 12, 18, or 24 dB/oct.
      • 9-Band Parametric EQ: You can create three Custom EQ presets by adjusting the head unit's 9-Band Parametric Equalizer to create a response curve more appealing to your personal taste. Band 1 (20Hz-100Hz), Band 2 (63Hz-325Hz), Band 3 (125Hz-500Hz), Band 4 (250Hz-1kHz), Band 5 (500Hz-2kHz), Band 6 (1kHz-4kHz), Band 7 (2kHz-7.2kHz), Band 8 (5.8 kHz-12kHz), Band 9 (9kHz-20kHz). Bandwidth Q (1, 2, or 3). Levels (-7 to + 7).
    • Facebook Notifications: The Alpine TuneIt App also keeps you in touch with your Facebook friends. When you receive a notification, you will get a visual alert on the smartphone and the head unit, plus a sound alert through your car speakers. The visual notification includes the Facebook icon and the sender's name, with the profile picture shown on the phone. You are then able to listen to the notification via TTS (Text-to-Speech) through the head unit and your vehicle's speaker. You can even "Like" the notification from the head unit's front-panel controls. In order to receive Facebook notifications on the head unit, the Alpine TuneIt App must be the active app on your smartphone.

Note: Access to the Alpine TuneIt app will depend on the availability of a cellular and/or WiFi network for purposes of allowing your iPhone to connect to the Internet. You will also need to turn on the GPS function of your phone.

Beep Guide: This function will give audible feedback with varying tones depending upon the button pressed. The volume of this feature can be set from 0-7.

RDS AM/FM Tuner: The Alpine iLX-107 features a built-in AM/FM tuner with manual, seek, and preset tuning. The built-in tuner provides 12 FM and 6 AM preset stations. Stations can be preset manually or automatically. Local seek tuning lets you tune in only those radio stations with sufficiently strong signals for good reception. Distance seek tuning allows both strong and weak stations to be tuned. The Radio Data System (RDS) feature displays radio broadcast information such as artist & track information when listening to compatible AM/FM stations.

    AV Connections

OEM Integration: The Alpine iLX-107 is compatible with the iDatalink Maestro RR ( 794ADSMRR, sold separately); a web programmable module that will permit the aftermarket Alpine receiver to work with select Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury vehicles that feature the factory SYNC system; as well as select GM vehicles with factory OnStar; select Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep vehicles with U-Connect, select Volkswagens with factory digital amplifier, and select Toyota/Scion vehicles.

    • Retained Features: The iDatalink Maestro RR lets Ford/Lincoln/Mercury, GM, Dodge/Chrysler, and VW owners swap out their factory radio for this aftermarket Alpine head unit; while retaining the Ford Sync system, GM OnStar system, Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep U-Connect system, steering wheel controls, Bluetooth, USB interface, Satellite Radio, and 911 assist. You also get to keep the hands-free mic that comes with the car (which is specially tuned to that particular vehicle). *Retained features will vary by vehicle.
    • Extra Features: In some installations, the iDatalink Maestro RR lets you configure the head unit to operate interior climate controls and provides extra visual data; such as User Selectable Gauges, Vehicle Info (Tire Pressure/Battery Voltage/Check Engine Codes/Door Ajar Warning), and Visual Park Assist. *Extra features will vary by vehicle.

Note: The iDatalink Maestro RR is web programmable, which means you'll need to flash the iDatalink Maestro RR interface module with the correct firmware from iDatalink's website. In addition to flashing the iDatalink Maestro RR module, you'll also need a vehicle specific harness (sold separately). The Alpine receiver's OEM Setup menu must also be configured with your compatible vehicle's factory system before initial operation.

Backup Camera Input: Alpine makes it easy to add a driver assistance backup camera (sold separately - see Accessories tab) through the iLX-107's rear-view composite video input. The rear-view camera function assists you (the driver) in checking behind your vehicle by sending images to the Alpine receiver's in-dash monitor, showing conditions behind the car.

    • Guide Lines: In addition to the rear-view image, the backup camera function also provides multiple on-screen guidelines to assist you when backing up your vehicle.
    • Camera Location: You can indicate within the receiver's menu, whether you are using a backup, side, or front camera.
    • Auto Rear-View Switching: If a rear-view camera is connected, you should also connect the unit's reverse lead wire (Orange/white) to your vehicle's back-up lamp circuit. When properly connected, the image from the rear-view camera automatically appears on the monitor when the vehicle is shifted into reverse. Automatic video switching takes approximately 0.75 seconds.
Note: The rear-view camera function is meant as a backup aid only; never solely rely on the rear-view camera function when backing up. In addition to using the backup camera function, the driver should always look behind to make sure everything is clear when backing up vehicle.

AV Input: The Alpine iLX-107 is fitted with one rear-panel 3.5mm audio/video input for connection of an external AV device like a Blu-ray/DVD player or TV tuner (sold separately).

    Why did you buy this?

I chose this for the wireless Apple CarPlay [ Rob  Feb 12, 2019 ]
    Has a clean seamless look [ Hunter  Feb 08, 2019 ]
For the wireless Apple Car Play [ Derek  Jan 17, 2019 ]
I reached my pain threshold when dealing with my stock Subaru StarLink head unit a long time ago. Wireless CarPlay with apparently fantastic integration with factory equipment steered me toward the ILX-107. For aftermarket wireless CarPlay it's really the only game in town as of my writing this comment. [ Jimmy  Jan 04, 2019 ]
Wireless connection for my phone, clean lines and larger screen than what I currently have. [ Roger  Dec 02, 2018 ]
Wireless connecting to Apple's car play is all that needs to be said. No more cord unless you need a charge. [ Jim  Sep 20, 2018 ]
It's the only game in town for wireless carplay. Pioneer's three competing models have a combination of the following problems: i) twice the price; ii) resistive touchscreen; iii) no rewind/skip hardware buttons (seriously, pathetic); iv) physical controls which take up a chunk of the unit and make it look very aftermarket. [ Julian  Sep 09, 2018 ]
One of the few radios that can work in a dang Fiat where iPhones are not compatible and can actually damage factory radio [ Daryl  Aug 23, 2018 ]
Have one in other truck and it is a awesome unit [ Frank  Aug 22, 2018 ]
My son had the model before and i really liked it [ simon  Aug 20, 2018 ]

    Wireless Carplay YAY. [ V  Jun 28, 2018 ]
I'm replacing a Pioneer AVH-4100NEX head unit. Based on reviews, I expect from Alpine a better CarPlay experience, including the unique wireless iPhone connection feature, and better sound. Further, as soon as Apple releases iOS 12 in the fall, I expect to be able to use WAZE, and thus have both a better CarPlay implementation and my preferred navigation app (I avoid Apple's Maps app, ranking it third, behind WAZE and Google Maps). Hope I'm right. [ R  Jun 18, 2018 ]
It's the only wireless CarPlay headunit on the market. With Apple opening up CarPlay to other navigation software in iOS 12, it will become very useful. [ Thai  Jun 14, 2018 ]
included in installation package [ James  May 20, 2018 ]
It's a alpine-da best. Plus apple AirPlay makes driving that much more enjoyable [ MATTHEW  May 10, 2018 ]
Wireless Apple CarPlay! Have wanted for a long time. Crutchfield made purchasing easy by offering all items necessary to install in a bundle. [ Victoria  May 06, 2018 ]
Wireless CarPlay! Need I say more. [ Lloyd James  May 05, 2018 ]
I have a car mounted wireless phone charger in my Jeep Wrangler Unlimited & wanted to be able to use it still, so this wireless car play head unit was the perfect choice for me. [ Ronald  Apr 04, 2018 ]

    Wireless Apple CarPlay [ James  Feb 16, 2018 ]
CarPlay is awesome if you have an iPhone. The only downside was the cord. This receiver solves that with wireless CarPlay. I am replacing the older model ILX-007, which unfortunately started malfunctioning. [ Chris  Feb 06, 2018 ]

Hardly any boot time. I think it's constantly in a sleep mode and the camera comes right on when you start up and hit reverse. [ Jim  Mar 07, 2019 ]
The unit comes equipped with Bluetooth so you can connect your android via that to play music. There is also a USB port in the back that can play media off of your phone as well. [ jaccob  Jan 30, 2019 ]
I don't have any gear that will allow the stock backup camera to work with a new radio. I do have backup cameras that can be connected to this Alpine receiver. Feel free to contact an advisor on 1-800-324-9695 for a personal recommendation My Bio: https://www.crutchfield.com/I-rET1c000/bio/Paul [ Paul  Dec 23, 2018 ]  Staff
You can use any camera that has an RCA output. [ Sean  Oct 01, 2018 ]
Depends where you want the camera. I believe any back up camera should work but they make many different mounts for the jeep. You can get a 5th wheel camera, a license plate camera, if you have the license plate relocation then they make one for that as well. Check out extreemterrain. Com. They have plenty of options there [ jaccob  Oct 01, 2018 ]
The customer service department should be able to fix you up with a iData Maestro unit to enable this Alpine to retain all your factory functions. [ Casey  Jul 28, 2018 ]
Tech Support is included with your purchase from Crutchfield, feel free to contact our Tech Support team. They can walk you through the settings and installation options. Our toll-free Tech Support number is printed on your invoice, and is also available under the "My Orders" tab in the "My Account" section of our website. [ Kenny  Jul 23, 2018 ]  Staff
You will want to contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat to discuss compatibility with your factory system. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and see if this will integrate. If it does not, then they will also be able to discuss other options with you. [ Krissy  Jul 20, 2018 ]  Staff
No, the one we installed did not have a screen protector that peels off. [ sfjohn  Jun 20, 2018 ]
I thought the same thing at first. No screen protector [ Richard  Jun 20, 2018 ]
I believe you can have a front camera too. Love my stereo. [ Brian R  Jun 20, 2018 ]
Yes, I run a front and rear so my wife won't run over curbs [ Dylan  Jun 12, 2018 ]
I never used that option although I recall it said rear camera. Maybe a question for Crutchfield tech [ Gary  Jun 12, 2018 ]
I hate that no one has replied to your post on pictures of where they installed those parts. We have advisors that you can reach by calling 1-800-324-9695 for a personal recommendation on where to place them and any gear we might have to help mount them My Bio: http://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=101 [ Paul  May 14, 2018 ]  Staff
Yes. Apple CarPlay now supports Amazon Music, and as long as the relationship between Amazon and Apple is good enough, I guess it will continue to do so. [ Guest  May 14, 2018 ]
CarPlay supports amazon music so yes. Any other unit with CarPlay would support the app too since it's based on Apple's software, not the unit. [ ADAM  May 14, 2018 ]
    Yes it does. [ Jim  May 14, 2018 ]
Yes you just need to buy a steering wheel control adapter. Like I had bought a PAC SWI-CP 2 Steering Wheel Adaptor and it works great. [ Kaelan  Apr 19, 2018 ]
Yes, if you get the installation kit that comes with the equipment to retain steering wheel controls. If you "add to cart" and select your vehicle, you will be shown installation gear options. One or more of those options will include the necessary equipment to keep your steering wheel controls. [ Drew  Apr 18, 2018 ]
Without knowing your specific vehicle I expect yes with the after market extras. Crutchfield have a great option on the buy screen "does this work with my vehicle" there it will tell you what else you need to buy. Depending what Car etc I expect the only thing you potentially might loose are buttons like talking to the car (Siri like) if that happens this unit has a button in the head unit. [ Scott  Apr 18, 2018 ]
If you get the right steering wheel controls adapter it will. Sold separately. I got one for my Lexus ES 350 and my controls work. Just ask the expert on crutchfield if you need help finding the right one. [ Kiran  Apr 18, 2018 ]
I only could get about half of the controls to work on my 2015 Tacoma. Volume, source, siri and next track. I do like the radio though. [ Michael  Apr 18, 2018 ]
Yes it will but requires the separate purchase of a canbus interface box. For my 2003 silverado truck the interface i needed was called PAC RP5-GM11 Wiring Interface. Ask the Crutchfield rep about your vehicle and they can make the correct recommendation for your needs. [ Lee  Apr 18, 2018 ]
It does it requires the purchase of the idatalink [ Brian  Apr 18, 2018 ]
With a compatible adapter. I was able to retain my Toyota Prius 2010 controls using the PAC SWI-CP2 adapter. [ Andrey  Apr 18, 2018 ]
Yes, I did to me, perfect. It may need some adaptor depending the model (also sell by crutchfield) [ EDUARDO  Apr 18, 2018 ]
Some. The volume and change song/channel do but the call button and assistant buttons do not. [ Carson  Apr 18, 2018 ]
From the research I did the practical answer is no. [ Randy  Apr 20, 2018 ]
I was able to wire my existing microphone. I just had to splice the wires. [ Chris  Apr 17, 2018 ]
There was no way that I could find to do that. I just used the supplied mic and it doesn't look to bad. The the head unit! [ MICHAEL  Apr 17, 2018 ]
I believe any microphone can be wired to work with it. Your car may have the same plug in as Alpines or you may be able to find an adapter piece. [ Tyler  Apr 17, 2018 ]
You will want to contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat to discuss compatibility with your factory system. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and see if this will integrate. If it does not, then they will also be able to discuss other options with you. [ Krissy  Apr 20, 2018 ]  Staff
Are u running a canbus interface box? If so the camera power draw may be causing the box to think vehicle is always in reverse (this happened to my box). I had to rewire the camera power to the reverse lights instead of the interface box and then replace the damaged canbus box(PAC ADAPTOR). After that the problem was resolved. One way to confirm this is disconnect orange reverse signal wire from canbus box and radio will return to normal operation. [ Lee  Apr 18, 2018 ]
Look at connector seven in your installation manual. The orange white reverse wire needs to be hooked up to your positive reverse lamp bulb. When you select reverse the voltage will go into the orange white reverse wire to your radio telling your radio to turn the camera on [ Robert  Apr 13, 2018 ]
Did you connect the reverse sensing cable (orange/white) to the plus side of the back-up lamp signal lead of the car? That cable needs to be connected to something that generates voltage when the vehicle is in reverse. Per the users's manual, when connected there are no additional steps necessary, and if I recall that was my experience with it as well. [ Sean  Apr 13, 2018 ]
No. This is an Apple CarPlay based unit that only supports Apple approved applications. You need an android based unit that has the ability to ply blue ray and put into an output line for screens [ BENJAMIN  Mar 26, 2018 ]
If you purchased the product from Crutchfield, feel free to contact our Tech Support team. They can walk you through the settings on the product and see if there may be a fix. Our toll-free Tech Support number is printed on your invoice, and is also available under the "My Orders" tab in the "My Account" section of our website. The USB drive must be formatted to FAT-32 system. The file must be in a folder named OPENINGFILE. So it should be "G:\OPENINGFILE\openingfile.bmp" and the image has to be resolution 800x480. Your problem may be the space you have in your file name. There is no space, it's all one word. [ Cheryl  Feb 23, 2018 ]
Hi, Unfortunately I have the same issue. I formatted as FAT and still did not recognized the USB. I am sorry I cannot be more helpful. I suggest to google it. [ Jaime  Feb 22, 2018 ]
Yes. You have to make sure that the image is set to be exactly 800x480 pixels and that the USB is a FAT-32. [ Sam  Feb 22, 2018 ]
Yes it works with Spotify. [ Jim  Feb 18, 2018 ]
    Yes [ BENJAMIN  Feb 18, 2018 ]
Yes, it figures out the direction of the vehicle no matter how your phone is positioned. But it doesn't use a compass - it uses the changing GPS coordinates to figure out the vehicle's track (whether through the phone's GPS antenna or the head unit's GPS antenna or both - I don't know). So when you turn on the car while parked, the map may not be oriented correctly. After you've traveled a few feet, the map will spin around to show your true direction. [ Robert  Jan 10, 2018 ]
It comes with an antenna, and your phone can tell north no matter it's orientation. [ Jim  Jan 10, 2018 ]
It comes with its own GPS antenna. [ Mathieu  Jan 10, 2018 ]

No issues here. But I use a separate usb to charge the phone But I did use the supplied USB port to change the startup Image but didn't have any problem there. [ Robert  Dec 18, 2017 ]
Never had that problem. Using Anker usb cable from amazon. [ Gene  Dec 18, 2017 ]
Yes, it's possible. There are two video inputs available. [ Jim  Dec 01, 2017 ]
This head unit has two camera inputs. The first is designed for a backup camera (the head unit will automatically switch to this input when the car is put into reverse as long as you connect the reverse wire correctly). It is a standard RCA video input, which may or may not work with your factory backup camera. The second input is a 3.5mm AV jack. From tip to base on the plug, the order is Audio-L, Audio-R, Ground, Video. A normal 3.5mm stereo plug (i.e. Audio, Audio, Ground) will work fine in this jack because the video portion of the jack will align to the plug's Ground, but if you want to connect a video signal to this jack you will either have to find a compatible plug (good luck with that - I searched online for hours and couldn't find one) or make your own by cutting apart a non-compatible AV plug and soldering the wires back together in the required order using a multimeter continuity test. Theoretically, this will allow a second video input that can be manually selected from the head unit. If you're in reverse, however, I don't know if you can manually override the regular backup camera input and display the second camera instead. A simpler solution might be to install a manual switch upstream of the head unit that you can use to select Camera A or Camera B - both of which would lead to the head unit's backup camera input. CarPlay updates are independent of the phone or even the IOS. It is compatible with iPhone 8 and X and IOS 11. In a side note, it works amazingly well! [ Jeffrey  Sep 27, 2017 ]
Yes it should work with any class iPhone that supports Apple CarPlay. [ ostus  Sep 27, 2017 ]
Yes of course. This goes without saying. Alpine worked with Apple so that the HU is made only for iPhones. The software on the Alpine is actually a mirror image of your iPhone. No one else's, unless they're connecting. So what your seeing on the head unit is actually a scaled version of your phone. [ Joe  Sep 27, 2017 ]
The beauty of CarPlay is that you don't need to update the headhunt. The headhunt displays what the phone wants it to. Thus when you get a new iPhone or iOS update it just works. Any software improvements are done on the phone not the head unit. [ Sean  Sep 27, 2017 ]
No, you can't realign the guts of the head unit with the top of the screen rather than the bottom. The unit is 2-DIN for the faceplate and 1-DIN for the guts, with the guts at the bottom of the unit. This provides additional space to tuck away wiring when reassembling the dash, but you can't realign the guts. [ Robert  Nov 30, 2017 ]

yes! The interface integrates well between carplay and the overall alpine functions. (E.G. While listening to radio, I can browse carplay music. Radio keeps playing while browsing carplay until iPhone music is actually playing). As for notifications such as txt, no problem. [ Foxknows  Sep 19, 2017 ]

Yes. After you start the radio, if you go back to CarPlay the radio will continue until you change to music on your iPhone or a podcast, etc. It you get a call, or receive a text and have Siri read it, it will return to the radio after it is done. [ Peter  Sep 17, 2017 ]
Yes you can. Even when on the radio or Aux input text, calls, navigation prompts come up. [ Andy  Sep 17, 2017 ]
Yes, in the set up icons that appear in the upper right hand corner on the Apple Play main screen (not the thumbnail screen you see pictured above with the 8 apps.) You have to navigate through those set up screen and get to the audio portion and there's a place. I even killed the navigation voice and just use the visual map so it stops interrupting the music. I find the controls after hunting for it but cant recall exactly. You'll want to discover all the controls in there anyway. Hope that helps. [ Patti  Sep 18, 2017 ]

If you plan to retain the factory speakers, I would also retain the factory JBL amp. The stock speakers are an usually low impedance and work best with the factory amp powering them. If you've already installed aftermarket speakers or plan to when you install the Alpine, I would definitely bypass the stock amp as the higher impedance of the aftermarket speakers would get fewer watts from the factory JBL amp. I hope that helps! My Bio: https://www.crutchfield.com/bio/Ryan [ Ryan  Sep 01, 2017 ]  Staff
The included external microphone is pretty large, and the visor clip for it is enormous. I wasn't happy with the way it looked on my visor, so I made a custom mount for it by cutting a small square of black plastic with a Dremel, screwing a small screw through the plastic, cutting off the tip of the screw and inserting the exposed screw head into the bottom of the microphone where it's designed to snap onto the visor clip. I then stuck the custom mount to the dash in front of my instrument panel using double-stick foam mounting tape (color it the foam tape black with a Sharpie so it blends in). It's hardly visible there and looks much better than using the visor clip. [ Robert  Nov 30, 2017 ]
You need to figure out how to place the included external microphone. [ Sean  Aug 22, 2017 ]
As Joel indicated in his answer above, when the Alpine iLX-107 is turned on it will automatically pair with the last iPhone you had connected. It'll connect to whoever connected last. If you disconnect before leaving the car and let's say you guys both get in the car later, the stereo will ask who wants to connect. Fast and simple. [ Josel  Aug 20, 2017 ]
Yes. When I connect to mine in the driveway the phone switches off of my home wifi and connects to the Alpine. The phone then uses cellular for data. I also have a wireless hotspot that I sometimes use. I cannot connect to the wireless hotspot and also connect wirelessly to the Alpine. However if I connect to the Alpine over USB then I can connect to my wireless hotspot. Unfortunately it appears that if you start the car in wireless mode you cannot switch to a USB connection without turning the car off and on again. I could be wrong about this last part but that is how it appears to me. [ Sean  Aug 22, 2017 ]
Yes it does. I don't know how it works, but it works exactly as expected. [ Paul  Aug 21, 2017 ]
Yes, wifi is only used to transmit data to and from the phone and reciever. My guess is that they used wifi instead of Bluetooth because Bluetooth simply couldn't handle the CarPlay OS/mirror. I've had no issues so far and love this headunit!! [ Joe  Aug 21, 2017 ]
You can control the navigation audio in the set up screens on the main Apple Play screen --there's a setting to control the audio sources of your apps. I chose to kill the sound completely on maps so it doesn't interrupt my music. If I wanted to, I could turn it back on. [ Patti  Sep 18, 2017 ]

The stereo's built-in Wi-Fi is for the wireless CarPlay connectivity from your compatible iPhone: "Wireless Connection: A wireless connection between your compatible iPhone device and the Alpine iLX-107 is made via 5GHz WiFi and 2.4GHz Bluetooth. Make sure your iPhone's Bluetooth & WiFi setting is turned On; plus make the receiver's WLAN menu setting is turned On." I've never had a hard time hearing phone calls and usually have it set at a level below 11. Maybe you need better speakers (or a quieter engine). I also don't think the number is related to number for the volume of the radio. It's a separate volume setting. 11 for either setting is actually quite loud in my car. [ Paul  Oct 31, 2017 ]
11 is for microphone pickup level. while on the call ,use the volume on the radio the hear louder [ GABRIEL  Aug 03, 2017 ]
Have you tried to increase the volume of the phone itself? There are volume settings for phone calls on the iPhone as well. [ Derrick  Aug 02, 2017 ]
Carplay does not support visual display of Google Maps or Waze. You will need Android Auto for the visual, which if you purchase the ilx-207 can be piped through an inexpensive ($130 or so) Android Phone using the cellular connection on the Iphone (hotspot). I do this with the ilx-207 and it is great. If you're okay with just audio and fiddling with your phone, you can use them here with the ilx-107. Major deficiency. [ Charles  Oct 25, 2017 ]
No I am sure it doesn't just purchased the alpine and installed it myself. I can tell you this if you have a iPhone then it is a must have promise you that much! [ Jonathan  Aug 02, 2017 ]

Google maps does not display. You can still use it from the phone--and just like Music apps that are not compatible, the sound will play on the car stereo. But if you want to see the maps from Google Maps, you'll need to look at the phone. [ Guest  Aug 01, 2017 ]
When i enter car, i make sure that my iphone has the blutooth and the wifi enabled BEFORE starting car. When car is started and both are enabled, the radio will connect and allow apple carplay which fully supports phone and voice texting. If u forget to enable blutooth or wifi, it wont connect. The other idea might might be to use aux input from an android device and use Waze on that. [ Chris  Apr 17, 2018 ]
Google maps doesn't display on the display, but you can use it from your phone, and the spoken directions will play over music that is playing on the stereo. [ Guest  Aug 01, 2017 ]
There are three ways to connect to a portable music player/iPod/iPhone: 1. Wirelessly through CarPlay (requires Bluetooth for the initial pairing and WiFi for the connection). 2. 3.5mm audio jack (requires you to connect a 3.5mm audio plug to the back of the unit and mount the connected jack to your dash). 3. USB (requires you to connect a USB extension cable to the back of the unit and mount the other end to your dash). I bought a combination USB/3.5mm audio jack that is designed to fit into a circular cigarette lighter opening and it works great. The back side has a 3.5mm audio jack and a USB cable that lead to the head unit. I haven't used an iPod in a long time, so I don't recall whether or not iPods can play music through a USB cable. If your iPod can do this, then I don't see why the head unit would have a problem with it. [ Robert  Nov 30, 2017 ]
I tried connecting my old IPod 3rd gen Nano and, it did not support it. It looks like it just charges any Apple products at this point [ David  Aug 15, 2017 ]
It has Wireless carplay so if your iPod supports CarPlay then yes. It also has a 3.5mm aux port in the back. [ BENJAMIN  Jul 25, 2017 ]
I should, I haven't used an iPod, but if you're going the wired route, there's much cheaper options.... I bought this because of the wireless CarPlay. [ Mick  Jul 25, 2017 ]
I don't believe so. I tried connecting my iPad Mini and the stereo said unsupported device. [ Brien  Jul 25, 2017 ]
It has a USB input on the back and iPods use the same OS as an iPhone so I would assume it will work just fine. I don't see a reason to not use the bluetooth/wifi connection though, it works flawlessly. [ Jim  Jul 25, 2017 ]

I installed in my 2016 Outback Limited with the HK and Eyesight (Outbacks same set up as Legacy). - On the head unit, you will lose anything associated with the Starlink unit. You can get some gauges back with iData module. No one makes an adapter for the oem mic so you will have to use the one supplied by Alpine. There are adapters for the backup camera and other items. I installed the AXXESS steering wheel adapter and everything works except the button that contains the "menu" button (top) and "back" button (bottom). All else worked with no issue. IMO..., vast improvement in sound quality to the Starlink-HK head unit/amp combo. [ P  Aug 04, 2017 ]
