About the Alpine iLX-W650

Alexander H.

A powerful combo

There are a lot of solid receivers out there that give you Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, built-in Bluetooth®, and SiriusXM connectivity. Very, very few, however, boast the shallow chassis of Alpine's iLX-W650 (only 2-13/16" deep), making it a great candidate for a smooth installation in many "problem vehicles." And none are designed to fit perfectly with Alpine's KTA-450 power pack amplifier, a compact amp that packs an impressive 50 watts RMS by 4 channels. When secured together using Alpine's Power Stack installation gear, the iLX-W650 and amp are still less than 5" deep. If space is a commodity and you're thinking about building a system with more power, Alpine has the solution.

Built for the best smartphone experience

Your iPhone® or Android™ phone is your hub for music, maps, and communication, and Alpine brings that familiar experience to your dash with built-in Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™. Access the apps you need without getting distracted, and the 7" capacitive touchscreen works just like a tablet, so you'll feel right at home. And Alpine has enhanced the touchscreen experience with swipe control over volume, track-skipping, and more.

Streamlined control for driving

CarPlay and Android Auto make important functions easy to control with large, familiar app icons that you can find immediately when you need them. Other info appears on the screen in big, easy-to-read text on a clean, clutter-free background. You can also activate apps with voice commands, using the external microphone that's included with the receiver. You can make calls, compose texts, select tunes, and start navigation without taking your hands off the wheel or your eyes off the road.

Lots of entertainment

With a wired connection to your smartphone via the receiver's rear USB, you can browse through your phone's FLAC music files for playlists, songs, artists, and albums. And the iLX-W650 is SiriusXM-ready, so you can add a satellite radio tuner and enjoy your favorite music, sports, entertainment, and more anywhere you go.

Audio goodies

Use the 9-band parametric equalizer and 6-channel time-correction tools to maximize the audio signal sent to the powerful built-in amplifier. Three sets of 4-volt preamp outputs deliver an ultra-clean signal for adding additional amps for more power.

Get where you're going

If you need directions, launch your maps app using Apple CarPlay or Android Auto to find out how to reach the coolest new spot in town. Just touch the convenient "voice" button on the receiver and ask. Your phone will handle the turn-by-turn directions, and the big capacitive touchscreen allows you to pinch-to-zoom the map display. You'll be able to pinpoint exactly where you need to be and, if need be, find a place to park.

Front- and rear-view, too

With two camera inputs, you can also install front- and rear-view cameras and use the receiver's built-in parking guides to back up safely in any crowded lot.

Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.

Smartphone note: If you're going to use your iPod or smartphone with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for compatibility information.

You'll need a wired connection to your parking brake to access settings and other features on this receiver. Your parking brake must be connected and set in order to view video on its screen.

Some states and localities prohibit or restrict the use of video and information displays in vehicles – it is your responsibility to see if any restrictions or prohibitions apply in your area.

    Apple CarPlay & Android Auto

Apple CarPlay: Apple CarPlay is a smarter, safer in-vehicle interface to operate your iPhone 5S or later (iOS 11.0+). Your iPhone will need to be connected to the Alpine receiver's rear-panel USB port via the included USB extension cable and an Apple Certified cable. Apple CarPlay is specially designed for driving scenarios. You can control CarPlay from the Alpine receiver's touchscreen controls or use Siri to control to control CarPlay with just your voice. You'll be able to use CarPlay to get directions, make phone calls, listen to voice mails, send/receive text messages, select music, and even control Apple HomeKit compatible devices in a way that keeps you focused on the road ahead.

    • Navigation Maps: The power and simplicity of Apple Maps comes to your dashboard; complete with turn-by-turn direction, traffic conditions, and estimated travel time. You can enter a new destination or choose a favorite or recent destination using the head unit's touchscreen or by simply asking Siri. CarPlay can also predict where you most likely want to go using addresses from your email, text messages, contacts, and calendars. If you have iOS 12.0 or newer on your iPhone with the latest version of Google Maps or Waze, you can choose to navigate via the Google Maps or Waze application instead of Apple Maps. Google Maps and Waze do not support Siri voice control, but will have their own proprietary voice control function which has to be accessed through a touchscreen icon on the receiver.
    • Phone & Messages: You'll be able to make calls, return missed calls, and listen to voicemails through the Alpine receiver. Siri can also help you do all these things. In addition, Siri can send, read, and reply to your text messages for you; so you never have to look at your iPhone while driving.
    • Music Library: Access your favorite artists, songs, and playlists from Apple Music on your iPhone using the Alpine receiver's touchscreen. Or, just tell Siri what you'd like to listen to. The head unit's touchscreen will display song/artist information, as well as album art in the background.
    • Apps: CarPlay also supports additional audio apps that you've downloaded to your iPhone for enjoying music, radio, sports, news, podcasts, & audiobooks (subscriptions and fees may apply). Control these apps from the head unit's touchscreen just like you would from your iPhone. Current supported apps include:
    • Apple HomeKit Compatible: CarPlay now supports control of Apple HomeKit enabled devices (sold separately) through Siri. Using CarPlay in your vehicle, you can ask Siri to close or open your garage door, turn on or off home lighting, increase or decrease the temperature of your thermostat, as well as control select functions of other Apple HomeKit enabled devices and appliances. Click here for a list of compatible Apple HomeKit products.
Note: Bluetooth hands-free phone and wireless music streaming cannot be used while Apple CarPlay is being used with a connected iPhone.

Android Auto: The Alpine iLX-W650 supports the Android Auto app for Android smartphones running OS Lollipop (5.0 or newer). Your compatible Android smartphone must be connected to the Alpine receiver's rear-panel USB port via the included USB extension cable and your phone's USB cable, plus be paired via Bluetooth (your vehicle's parking brake needs to be engaged to initially setup Android Auto). Android Auto extends the Android platform into your car in a way that's purpose-built for driving and automatically brings you useful information and organizes it into a simple on-screen interface that is simple to use in the vehicle. It's designed to minimize distraction so you can stay focused on the road ahead. Features of Android Auto include -

    • Google Assistant: The Alpine receiver enhances your Android Auto experience even more by incorporating Google Assistant using the head unit's external microphone and your car speakers for voice command and text-to-speech, which makes using Android Auto and all of its integrated applications fast, easy, and safe. You will need to press the "mic" button or say "OK Google" to activate the Google Assistant. Use the Google Assistant to make a call, send a message, reply to a message, get driving directions, listen to music, or even control select Google Assistant smarthome enabled devices.
    • Google & Waze Maps: Use Google Maps to get where you're going with on-screen maps, voice-guided navigation, live traffic information, lane guidance, and more. Select your destination by using the head unit's touchscreen or just say where you want to go through the unit's external mic and Google Speech Technology. You can even listen to music from your Android Auto device or other connected source device while using Google Maps. If you prefer, you can switch over to a simpler version of the community-based Waze navigation app (version 4.27 or higher).
    • Phone & SMS: With Android Auto you get access to your contacts and messages through the Alpine receiver while keeping your eyes on the road. Use the unit's external mic and Google Speech Technology to make a phone call, or have your text-messages read aloud to you while you concentrate on the road ahead; you can even reply to texts via voice command.
    • Music: Access your Android smartphone's music library through the Alpine receiver via YouTube Music. You'll be able to browse music like you do on your smartphone with song/artist information display and album art. Use the receiver's touchscreen to select songs or just say what song you want to listen to through the head unit's external mic and Google Speech Technology. You also get access to online music and radio stations from Amazon Music, Tidal, Pandora, Spotify, iHeart Radio, SiriusXM, Slacker Radio, Tune-In, and more; as well as news, sports and talk radio apps. Music apps include song and station browsing, plus song/artist information and album art or station logo. Click here for a list of all compatible app for Android Auto.
    Notes:
    • Android smartphones with a USB Type-C connector (including the Pixel) may not function without appropriate USB Type-A to USB Type-C cable.
    • Bluetooth hands-free phone and wireless music streaming cannot be used while Android Auto is being used with a connected Android smartphone.
    • Use a USB cable that is under 6' long and avoid using any extension cable other than the one supplied.

Cellular & Data Plan Requirements: Access to CarPlay and Android Auto apps will depend on the availability of a cellular and/or WiFi network for purposes of allowing your iPhone or Android smartphone to connect to the Internet. Your compatible Apple or Android device will need an active Data Plan account with connection to the Internet via 3G, EDGE, LTE (4G), or WiFi.

Smartphone Charging: The Alpine iLX-W650 will also charge (5V/1A) your Android smartphone or Apple iPod/iPhone device while connected via USB with the vehicle's ignition switch set to the 'ACC' or 'On' position.

    USB & iPhone Integration

USB MSC Playback: In addition to iPhone & Android connectivity, the head unit's rear-panel USB (type-A) port allows you to connect a USB Mass Storage Class (MSC) device; such as a USB thumbdrive.A 42" USB extension cable is included. The unit supports playback and control of a variety of audio, video, and photo files stored on a compatible USB MSC device. USB portable devices that can be charged via USB will be charged when plugged into the digital media receiver's USB port (max. 1A), and the vehicle's ignition switch is set to ACC or On.

    • 1A Charging: The head unit's USB connection provides 1A of current to power and charge your connected iPod/iPhone when your vehicle's ignition switch is set to the 'ACC' or 'On' position (if your iPod/iPhone has no initial battery charge, then the unit will not recognize it).

    Notes:

    • Make sure to turn off Apple CarPlay on your iPhone device before connecting to the Alpine iLX-W650 when using your iPhone for music playback only.
    • Not compatible with Apple iPod nano or iPod touch, older 30-pin Apple devices, and iPhones older than the 5S.
    • Apple iPod/iPhone software updates may change functionality results. If you download a newer software version, you may need to reset the head unit and your iPod/iPhone to regain functionality. If this doesn't work, you may need to wait until a newer software update is available.
    Built-in Bluetooth

Bluetooth 4.2: The Alpine iLX-W650 features built-in Bluetooth version 4.2. The head unit's built-in Bluetooth allows you to make and receive phone calls wirelessly through the receiver; as well as stream music wirelessly from your smartphone to the head unit. In order to use Bluetooth wireless technology, your phone must also be Bluetooth compatible and be able to interpret certain profiles. This unit is compatible with the following Bluetooth Profiles -

    • Hands-Free Communication: HFP 1.5 (Hands Free Profile), PBAP 1.0 (Phone Book Access Profile).
    • Audio Streaming: A2DP 1.2 (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile), AVRCP 1.4 (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile).
Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the Alpine iLX-W650.

Secure Simple Pairing (SSP) w/ Dual Phone Connection: With Secure Simple Pairing (SSP), you can easily pair a Bluetooth enabled phone to the iLX-W650 without having to enter pin codes or go through complicated settings (your phone must also support SSP). You can register up to four Bluetooth enabled devices with the Alpine head unit, and keep two phones connected simultaneously. That way you can switch between the driver's and passenger's phones a lot quicker without having to un-connect and re-connect devices. When a previous paired Bluetooth device is in close proximity to the receiver, the auto connection function automatically connects the receiver and device.

Note: Your vehicle must be stopped with its parking brake engaged to initially pair a Bluetooth device.

Hands-Free Communication: The Alpine iLX-W650 supports wireless hands-free communication for your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone (including iPhone & Android). You'll be able to receive and make calls using the iLX-W650. The iLX-W650 allows you to carry on a phone conversation using the included external microphone and your car audio speakers. You can emphasize or weaken the volume level of the phone caller, the ring tone, and the microphone to fit your own preference (0-11).

    • Receiving Calls: Incoming calls are announced by a caller ring tone through your vehicle's speakers (music will be muted) & a Caller ID message across your Alpine head unit's touchscreen display. You can answer an incoming phone call by pressing the telephone icon button on the Alpine receiver's front-panel. Press the telephone icon button again to end the call.
    • Making Calls: The Alpine iLX-W650 provides a variety of functions for placing a phone call without using your mobile phone. The Alpine iLX-W650 features full phone book access, call history, and voice-dialing with compatible phones.
      • Phone Number Entry: Allows you to directly dial a phone number from the head unit's touchscreen.
      • Phonebook (with ABC search): Your contacts and their phone numbers can be downloaded from your compatible mobile phone. You can then search the contacts of your phonebook alphabetically.

      • Voice Dialing: If you have a voice-dial capable phone (including iPhone & Android), you can dial a phone contact by simply speaking the name of your contact or the telephone number.
Note: All Bluetooth phone functions are available with or without the parking brake engaged.

Audio Streaming: The Alpine iLX-W650 can stream stored music, music apps, and other content from your Bluetooth source device (such as your iPhone or Android smartphone). The iLX-W650 will be able to control basic playback functions such as Play/Pause, Previous/Next Track, Fast Forward/Rewind and Random/Repeat. Advanced music browsing (such as song/artist/album search) will still need to be done from your Bluetooth source device. The head unit will also display your stored music's song information; such as Artist name & Song/Album title (no Album Art).

Note: When an incoming call or outgoing call is in progress from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, audio streaming will be paused so you can take your call. Once the call is finished, your streaming music will resume.

Siri Eyes Free Control: When connected to an iPhone with Siri via Bluetooth, the Alpine iLX-W650 has the ability to access Siri through its front-panel controls and external microphone. Simply press the head unit's "Mic icon" button to engage Siri and use the external microphone to communicate with Siri. Siri's voice will be heard through your vehicle's speakers. All Siri functions including hands-free calling, music search, setting reminders, text-messaging, audible navigation, and more can be done through the iLX-W650 and its microphone. You can ask Siri to get directions to a destination and the turn-by-turn instructions will heard through your vehicle's speakers, while the on-screen map still displays on your iPhone with Siri. The head unit's audio is attenuated while Siri provides audible directions.

Note: The head unit's display will only indicate hands-free calling and Bluetooth audio information (all other functions of Siri are only audible through the Alpine iLX-W650; visual data will still need to be viewed from your iPhone device).
    Apple Music+SiriusXM+AM/FM Radio

Apple Music Radio: You can playback Apple Music Radio on your USB-connected Apple iPhone (5S and up) through the Alpine iLX-W650. With a WiFi or cellular connection, you can listen to Beats 1 and other live radio stations. Apple Music subscribers can also listen to on-demand stations from almost any genre or create their own stations. Audio & DSP Section

CTA-2006 Compliant: The specifications given by Alpine for the built-in amplifier comply with the CTA-2006 mobile amplifier power testing and measurement standards from the CTA (Consumer Technology Association). All manufacturers who comply with the standard can display the CTA-2006 logo on their product.

    • CTA-2006 Power Rating: 16 watts x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20-20kHz, 1% THD)
    • Max Power Output: 45 watts x 4 channels

Note: Add the KTP-445A Head Unit Power Pack (500KTP445A, sold separately) to deliver 45 watts x 4-channel RMS of power. The KTP-445A is compact enough to install behind the Alpine receiver. It plugs in-line with the head unit's wiring harness, so you don't even need additional wires.

PowerStack Compatible: The iLX-W650's compact and shallow chassis is optimized to mount one of Alpine's Power Pack amplifiers (sold separately) to the back of the in-dash receiver. Alpine's PowerStack design lets you add more power to your sound system, while occupying the same depth as a traditional Double-DIN (4") radio. These amplifiers are not plug-and-play, and will still require power run to your battery. They feature power/ground/remote wires, as well as line-level RCA inputs and speaker wire outputs.

    • KTA-450 Amplifier: The KT-A450 (sold separately) is a 4-channel amplifier that is rated at 50 watts x 4 channels into 4-ohms. It can also be bridged to provide 100 watts x 2 channels into 4-ohms. The amp features a variable high-pass crossover (60Hz, 80Hz, 120Hz, or Off) and adjustable gain control.
    • KTA-200M Amplifier: The KTA-200M (sold separately) is a mono-subwoofer amplifier that utilizes Alpine's exclusive Dynamic Peak Power technology to produce 200 watts x 1 channel into 4- or 2-ohms. The amp features a variable low-pass crossover (60Hz, 80Hz, 120Hz, or Off) and adjustable gain control.

Note: You can only mount one of the Power Pack amplifiers to the back of the iLX-W650. Mounting one of these amplifiers to the back of the iLX-W650 increases the overall installation depth of the receiver to 4.585".

6ch/4V Preouts + Sub Control: The iLX-W650 has three sets of 4-volt RCA pre-outs (Front/Rear/Sub) for connection of external amplifiers. The unit's front and rear preamp output can be faded, while the subwoofer preamp output is non-fading. The subwoofer output level can be adjusted independently from the main volume setting (0-15); so even at low volume settings the subwoofer is still audible. The subwoofer output phase can be set to Normal (0°) or Reverse (180°).

High-Pass & Low-Pass Crossovers: This unit is equipped with active high-pass and low-pass crossovers which limit the frequencies delivered to the speaker and line-level outputs. Each speaker channel is controlled independently, so each speaker pair can be driven by the frequencies for which have they been optimally designed. The crossover adjusts the HFP (high pass filter) or LPF (low pass filter) frequency point of each speaker pair, and also the slope (how fast the filter rolls off the highs or lows).

    • High Pass Filter: The Alpine head unit is equipped with a high-pass filter for its speaker-level output and front/rear-channel preamp outputs. You can set the unit's high-pass filter center frequency point to 20Hz, 25Hz, 31.5Hz, 40Hz, 50Hz, 63Hz, 80Hz, 100Hz, 125Hz, 160Hz, 200Hz, or Off (through). The slope of the high pass filter can be set to 6, 12, 18, or 24 dB/oct.
    • Low Pass Filter: The unit's subwoofer output low-pass filter can be set to 20Hz, 25Hz, 31.5Hz, 40Hz, 50Hz, 63Hz, 80Hz, 100Hz, 125Hz, 160Hz, 200Hz, or Off (through). The slope of the low pass filter can be set to 6, 12, 18, or 24 dB/oct.

Note: In order to access the head unit's crossover network, your vehicle must be stopped with its parking brake engaged.

Equalizer: The Alpine iLX-W650 is equipped with a variety of EQ Presets and EQ frequency bands to tailor the music to your listening preference. The EQ settings are applied to all sources.

    • Preset EQ: The simplest way to adjust the head unit's EQ curve is by select from one of the 6 EQ presets. You can choose from Flat (off), Jazz, Rock, Classical, Pop, or Custom (User). The Custom mode allows you to manually adjust a 3-Band or 9-Band EQ.
    • 3-Band EQ: The 3-Band EQ allows you to manually adjust the Alpine receiver's Bass, Midrange, and Treble from -7 to +7 dB for a better listening experience.
    • 9-Band Parametric EQ: The advanced 9-Band Parametric EQ allows you to adjust the center frequency, Q-factory, and level for a more custom listening experience. Band 1 can be set 20Hz-100Hz, Band 2 can be set to 63Hz-325Hz, Band 3 can be set to 125Hz-500Hz, Band 4 can be set to 250Hz-1kHz, Band 5 can be set to 500Hz-2kHz, Band 6 can be set to 1kHz-4kHz, Band 7 can be set to 2kHz-7.2kHz, Band 8 can be set to 5.8 kHz-12kHz, and Band 9 can be set to 9kHz-20kHz. The Q-factor for each band can be set to Narrow, Medium, or Wide. The level for each band can be set to -7 to +7 dB). You can save three 9-Band EQ presets.

Note: In order to access the head unit's 9-Band Parametric EQ, your vehicle must be stopped with its parking brake engaged.

Time Correction: This unit is able to delay the audio signal to the speakers closest to the listener with its built-in Time Correction feature. This effectively creates a perception of increased distance for those speakers. Time Correction allows the listener to be placed at an equal distance between the left and right speakers for optimum staging. You can adjust the distance (0-336.6cm) or time delay (0.0-9.9msec) of each speaker and subwoofer to the listener. You are able to save three time correction presets.

Note: In order to access Time Correction, your vehicle must be stopped with its parking brake engaged.

Media Xpander: Alpine's exclusive Media Xpander HD is engineered to bring out the musical details lost in compressed media, and it is adjustable per source to get the most out of your digital audio media. The Media Xpander makes vocals or instruments sound distinct regardless of the music source. The Tuner, USB memory, CarPlay, Android Auto, Pandora, and Bluetooth Audio will be able to reproduce the music more clearly even in vehicles with a lot of road noise.

Note: In order to access the Media Xpander, your vehicle must be stopped with its parking brake engaged.

Beep Guide: This function will give audible feedback with varying tones depending upon the button pressed. This feature can be turned On or Off.

Touchscreen w/ SWC + Camera Inputs

7" Capacitive Touchscreen: The 7" capacitive touchscreen boasts a 800 x 480 resolution (1.15 million pixels) with a 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio. The touchscreen monitor provides a balanced picture, not over-emphasizing dark or light areas, so album art, map screens, and videos are seen with greater clarity. The capacitive touchscreen requires less pressure, responds faster, and can recognize multiple touch points simultaneously; all advantages when compared to traditional resistive touchscreen displays.

    • Swipe Control: The new swipe control interface is designed for easy use so drivers can keep their eyes on the road. A two-finger swipe motion moving up, down, left, or right will control volume up/volume down and track skip forward/track skip backward. The two-finger swipe can be done at any location on the touchscreen, eliminating the need for the driver to search and touch a specific area for each command. The swipe control feature is not compatible with CarPlay or Android Auto
    • Touch-Sensitive Buttons: Conveniently located touch-sensitive buttons (including Power/Menu, Source, Volume Up/Down, Mute, Phone/Answer, and Voice/Mic)s are accessible along the bottom edge of the 7" touchscreen monitor for quick access and simple control.

Note: For safety and legal reasons, the iLX-W650 features a video lock-out feature to prevent the driver from viewing a video source while the vehicle is in motion. To watch a video source, the vehicle must be stopped with the parking brake engaged and the ignition in the ACC or ON position. This also includes advanced setup menus. CarPlay & Android Auto do not require the Parking Brake to be engaged.

Brightness (Dimmer) Control: You can adjust the brightness of the LCD backlight from -14 to +15 and the brightness of the button illumination from -2 to +2. You can then select one of the following modes for both the LCD's backlight and button illumination - Auto (adjusts the brightness of the background illumination based on the ambient light in your vehicle), On (keeps the background illumination of the monitor dark), or Off (keeps the background illumination of the monitor bright).

Clock Display: The iLX-W650 lets you select between a 12 hour or 24 hour clock, and is displayed on each source screen. The clock can be set to turn off with the unit, or continue to display after the unit is turned off (as long as the vehicle's key is in the accessory or on position).

Steering Wheel Control Input: The head unit features a 3.5mm steering wheel control (SWC) input on the rear of the chassis that lets you keep your vehicle's factory radio steering wheel controls when used with an optional steering wheel control adapter (sold separately - check for your vehicle's compatibility).

Dual Camera Inputs: Two camera inputs (consisting of composite video jacks) allow for the addition of multiple cameras including a rear-view, side-view, and/or front-view camera (both sold separately - see Accessories Tab). You can adjust the Brightness, Color, and Contrast of the Alpine receiver's camera inputs.

    • Guidelines: The rear-view camera function also provides on-screen color-coded guidelines to assist you when backing up your vehicle into a parking space.
    • Auto Rearview Switching: If a rear-view camera is connected, you should also connect the unit's reverse lead wire (Orange/white) to your vehicle's back-up lamp circuit. When properly connected, the image from the rear-view camera automatically appears on the monitor when the vehicle is shifted into reverse. Automatic video switching takes approximately 0.75 seconds.
Note: The rear view camera feature is meant as a back-up aid only; never solely rely on the rear-view camera when backing-up. In addition to using the rear-view camera, always look behind you to make sure everything is clear when backing up your vehicle.

    Q
Is the DAC 24/192 and is it a capacitive touchscreen?
    joshua  Oct 20, 2023
    1 answer
    A
The Alpine iLX-W650 does have a capacitive touchscreen, Joshua. DAC specs are not listed, but playable media file types are maxed out at 24-bit 48kHz for FLAC file playback, and the Alpine has an excellent sound quality if you plan to have amps/subs in your system. If you need a Hi-Res capable radio with a 24-bit 192kHz DAC, you will want the Sony XAV-9000ES in the link below. We can confirm with our online Vehicle Guide if it fits into your specific ride! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_158XAV9000/Sony-XAV-9000ES.html

2014 Hyundai Veloster mentions bypassing the factory amplifier requiring an additional amplifier. Can I use the factory amplifier or does it have to be bypassed?
    ben  Oct 19, 2023
    1 answer
    A
Greetings Ben. That is an excellent question. Why we put that warning up, is mainly because some think they can hard wire in their new stereos and not add the wire interface when buying the stereo. Years ago we could do that, today vehciles are a lot more complicated, and the old $9 wire adapters are now upwards of $200 today. If you add the stereo, and add the complete install package to your cart, either install package will keep your Veloster factory amplifier working. If you have any more questions, we have live advisors that can assist you 7 days a week.

Will this receiver work with the factory microphone in a 2012 Silverado 2500?
    brad  Oct 16, 2023
    1 answer
    A
It will be necessary to install the included microphone in order to take advantage of Bluetooth handsfree calling, as well as Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. We do not have an adapter that will allow us to use the factory microphone for this purpose.

Why is my brand new ILX-W650 clipping at Volume 10 (no amp)? can't even make out what is playing above 20 or so.

That is very interesting, Erik. Taking a peek at your install and order I do not see anything jumping out at me settings-wise that could cause this issue, so we would want to do some troubleshooting on your AX-GMCL2 interface. With any items purchased from Crutchfield we provide lifetime technical support. Have your order number handy and give us a call at our Technical Support hotline at 1-888-292-2575 when you have some time with the vehicle, and we can look into it. We are always here to help!

I have a 2004 Honda pilot with OEM dvd entertainment system, the drive is separate and operated from head unit and subwoofer. Will this unit be compatible? if not is there a unit that is?
    daniel  Sep 10, 2023

Unfortunately, we do not have a radio or installation parts that will allow retention of the factory DVD entertainment system. Additionally, the factory subwoofer and subwoofer amplifier will also be lost when replacing the radio.

It wonâ??t play an MP3 song with I understand I have 975 songs that recognizes the songs, but will not play them. Is there a special MP3 memory level classification?
    douglas  Sep 04, 2023
    1 answer
    A
Greetings Douglas, and thank you for your question. Alpine has no file limit listed. What is typical for a car stereo is the number of files and folders. 255 folders, with up to 255 files in each of those folders. Thats over 65,000 songs. Try splitting into multiple folders, if that still does not work, you might need to phone into tech support.

Why do I need amplifier with jeep factory amplifier? Do you use both?
    ed  Aug 21, 2023
    1 answer
    A
Greetings Ed, great question. Most all aftermarket stereos have a built in amplifier. Then in most cases with vehicles that have factroy amplifiers, the wire interface to connect a new stereo in that vehicle will keep use of the factory amplifier. In a few other cases, the interface wiring can bypass a factory amp. Then you would be using the amp in the new stereo. You dont use both, its one or the other.

    Q
Just installed the iLX W650 in my 2006 Silverado. The Bass/Treble and equalizer are greyed out and I can not click on them. All of the other functions are working properly. Has anyone seen this or have any ideas where to start? I don't think it is the parking break hook up, because all of the other functions work.
    hodges,  Aug 12, 2023
    1 answer
    A
Usually when any menu items are grayed out this is due to the parking brake hookup not being connected, Michael. With Alpine radios you do need to click that brake twice in succession to access the greyed features. I would check to make sure that connection is made properly first. I hope this helps!

Does anyone know any fixes for the distorted Siri voice? Or the distorted voice calls? I hear nothing but a scratchy voice when using the phone, Siri reading texts, or Siri talking in general. Any know. Fixes? I just updated the firmware and it was fixed for about ten seconds. Ill-W650 with iPhone.
    b2350v  Jul 03, 2023
    1 answer
    A
Updating the firmware is an excellent move, Bryan. This could be related to the specific iPhone or IOS being used. Try taking/making a call through Bluetooth instead of plugged in through USB/Carplay. If the sound quality improves then that is good information that the IOS/iPhone is the culprit. Alpine is regularly releasing firmware, so it is always a good idea to have the most recent version installed as this has been a fix for this issue. I hope this helps!

I have a 2008 Nissan Titan will I lose my steering wheel controls for the volume/sound control and Bluetooth to answer the phone?
    john  May 10, 2023
    1 answer
    A
We need to know the specific trim and cab details of your vehicle to confirm any retained features, John. Use our Vehicle Guide in the handy link below, and we will list the install packages and all the retained features! I dropped the Alpine iLX-W650 into a package for the 2008 Crew Cab with the Rockford Fosgate audio, and it does appear steering wheel controls can be retained with the right install package. Bluetooth is not retained, so you will need to run the included microphone with your new Alpine radio and re-link your phone directly to the Alpine for Bluetooth. We are always here to help, so do not hesitate to reach out at 1-800-324-9695 and a live Advisor can help you get your order placed! https://www.crutchfield.com/m_266150/Car-Stereos.html

Greetings Savely, and thank you for your question. Those instructions would not be in any stereos package, but we do a lot of vehicle research right here. The instructions are developed by our vehicle research team. For the Boxter without factory navigation, we have those and email them when your order ships. If your Boxter came with factory navigation, we would not have those instructions, I'm sorry to say.

Where do I purchase the adapter that plugs in to the w remote on the back of the unit? Is it an alpine product or some kind of universal product?
    vincent  Apr 26, 2023
    1 answer
    A
The 3.5mm remote in plug is for use with approved interfaces that retain steering wheel controls in some model vehicles and use a 3.5mm male connection, Vincent. Universal products are not recommended with the Alpine iLX-W650. If you are having issues with any product purchased from Crutchfield, please give us a call and we would be happy to help!

I have a 99 Jeep Cherokee, I had installed this, wnd was wondering if I could wire A rockford fosgate subwoofer and amp to it?
    jackmack  Apr 24, 2023
    1 answer
    A
The Alpine is a perfect source for an amp/sub combo, Jack. The Alpine has subwoofer specific RCA outputs to connect to your choice of combo. With space in the Cherokee, you could go with something like the P2-2X12 dual 12" box in the first link below. Add the R2-500X1 mono amp in the second link, and the EFX wiring kit with RCAs in the third link and you have everything you need for impressive bass! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_5751P22X12/Rockford-Fosgate-P2-2X12.html https://www.crutchfield.com/p_575R2500X1/Rockford-Fosgate-R2-500X1.html https://www.crutchfield.com/p_142PA4BX/EFX-PA4BX-Wiring-Kit.html

My Nissan Cube comes with a Rockford fosgate subwoofer. What would I need to wire it to this Alpine radio?
    john  Apr 17, 2023
    1 answer
    A
I took a look at all years from 09-14 Cube's with Rockford Fosgate premium audio John, and it looks like sadly the factory subwoofer is lost when swapping to any radio. Check out the link below, it has a small Alpine mono amp, wiring kit, RCA's, and larger speaker wire to retain your subwoofer. This is the best way to keep your factory subwoofer (or upgrade that as well) when swapping the radio to the Alpine in your Cube! https://www.crutchfield.com/I-rXYEc222/cart/EmailCart.aspx?emKey=3120422

I am looking to put this in my 2010 Toyota Rav4 Ltd. What do I need to do to move the backup camera from the rear view mirror to the new radio? I appreciate your help.
    bryan c  Apr 10, 2023
    1 answer
    A
Hi Bryan, thank you for your question. When replacing the factory radio with an aftermarket head unit like this Alpine, you won't be able to change the factory backup camera display location, it will remain in the rearview mirror. The only way to have the new radio be your backup camera display is to add an aftermarket backup camera and have it connected to the new radio. I recommend giving one of our Advisors a call at 1.800.324.9695 they'll be happy to help put together a new radio package for your RAV4.

Thanks for your question, Andre. The Alpine iLX-W650 isn't an iDatalink Maestro ready stereo so you won't be able be able to get those added onscreen features, if you bump up to the Alpine iLX-407 when used with the iDatalink Maestro interface package https://www.crutchfield.com/I-rET1c195/p_500ILX407/Alpine-iLX-407.html you'll get those added onscreen features like performance gauges and climate controls. Greetings Marisa, and thank you for your question. Aftermarket stereos do not come ready to be installed in any vehicle. The iDatalink ADS-MRR module is capable of being used in most vehicles to install radios that do not have the iDatalink input on them like this Alpine iLX-W650. The vehicle must be checked to make sure the iDatalink can be used as a universal wiring harness in it. I recommend contacting an advisor by calling 1-800-324-9695 to check yours

Does this unit record video from the camera inputs so it can be used as a dash cam. If not is there a unit that does record video?
    james allen  Jan 16, 2023

This Alpine iLx-W650 does not record video, in fact no radio's we carry do James. If you do need to record video and have integration with the radio, you can use the Alpine DVR-C320R HD dash cam in the link below. This does work with the iLX-F511 and the iLX-F509 which is in the second link below. You still are not storing any videos on the radio, but on the memory on the camera itself. I seem to be having an issue keeping the radio off. I primarily use it for listening to music or books and/or running maps from car play. Somewhat randomly it will just decide to play the radio if you don't start doing something quickly enough after starting. I haven't detected a firm pattern but backing out (it has a backup camera attached) certainly seems to be one trigger. I guess my question is how do you make the radio just stay off?

Like most aftermarket radios, the iLX-W650 does not have inherent ability to switch between different cameras with triggers from the turn signals. Typically, there is a separate switching unit that feeds into the rear camera input of the radio. Our advisors can help to determine what we'll need to make this work for your application. You will need a vehicle specific wiring harness for install on the sweet Alpine in your ride, Grayson. We hit the easy button for you by pairing it all together! If you use our handy online Vehicle Guide in the link below, you can punch in your ride's details, we will then pair all radios that physically fit and the right install goodies to make sure you keep all the original features you need. Will this system work with a 2010 MAZDA CX9 factory backup camera?
    zaher  Nov 19, 2022
    1 answer
    A
This depends completely on what specific factory trim you have in your CX9 Zaher. It looks like with some trim levels (Navigation and Bose audio) we have an accessories package for this radio that can keep your backup camera. If you have the non-navigation 4.3" radio originally you cannot keep your factory backup cam sadly, Zaher. If you cannot retain the original, go with this Alpine HCE-C1100 universal camera in the link below. It works great with the Alpine iLX-650 and has a much better picture clarity than any factory installed cam! To make sure you have the exact right gear, also punch your Mazda's trim specifics into our online Vehicle Guide in the second link below. This will make sure you have exactly the right gear you need for your specific model. If you need a hand, you can always call us at 1-800-324-9695 and a live Advisor can help. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_500HCEC110/Alpine-HCE-C1100.html https://www.crutchfield.com/m_266150/Car-Stereos.html

Greetings Kerry, and thank you for your question. This question would normally be a tech support question, but I have that stereo myself. The Alpine has a parking brake wire on one of its harness's. That wire needs to be connected to your vehicles parking brake sensor, then you have to engage your parking brake, release it, and re engage the parking brake to access your settings.

Alpine radio will not automatically display back up camera when shifting into reverse. Have to manually switch to it in the menu. I am connected to the correct trigger wire. Is there a settings change or is there an issue with the radio?
    sergio  Sep 08, 2022
    1 answer
    A
Sorry to hear that, Sergio. First check to verify the unit's reverse lead wire (Orange/white) is connected to your vehicle's back-up lamp circuit. From there, check your camera settings via the menu. This model has a primary and secondary camera option. Primary is off by default, be sure it is set to "rear". If you got the radio here, you can also call our Tech Support for help troubleshooting. Their direct number is on your invoice.

The product fitment says it won't fit a 2015 F150, but it's a double-din head unit that is less than 1/2 of the F150's available 6" mounting depth. Why won't it fit?
    matthew  Jun 14, 2022
    1 answer
    A
This radio will physically fit a 2015 F-150. However, depending on which submodel of the F-150 you have, the climate control may be integrated into the factory radio. We currently use the iDatalink Maestro system with these submodels to allow retention of the climate controls through the new radio. The iLX-W650 is not fully iDatalink compatible and would not allow for these controls to function through the radio. For this reason, we do not list it as a fit for your vehicle. For help with finding a similar model to do the job, please give our advisors a call at 1-800-324-9695.

Im not exactly sure what you are having an issue with here. I believe the "aux out" you might be talking about is the pre amp outputs that should go to an amplifier. There is a USB input available to connect different devices to the head unit such as your phone. I don't see any reason to use an aux to USB adapter with this head unit.

can you manually switch between camera inputs? Wanting to install this in my F250 and put a backup camera on the truck along with one on the RV
    paige  Apr 23, 2021
    2 answers
    A
You can switch the front camera. However, not the reverse camera unless you do an easy trick. The trick to accomplish this is to wire the "park" and "Reverse" wires to switches you can control instead of the actual vehicle wires. By doing this you are able to engage the reverse camera when every you want to. It will also allow your "co-driver" to change some settings that are only available when the vehicle is stopped.
    eric  May 07, 2021
    A
There is an option to manually play different camera inputs, if the cameras are active all the time. However, I have wired my backup camera to my reverse light so it automatically activates when I go in reverse (and only when I go in reverse) - this means the camera is turned off when I am not reversing, and I when I make the selection to manually see the camera input, I see nothing. So the feature to switch between multiple camera inputs only seems useful with always-on cameras such as dashcams, front and side bumper cams, etc. I don't think it is possible to change the camera inputs while the car is reversing, but I could be wrong.

The way this unit is built if it's inclined at too much of an angle the dissipation of heat could get trapped inside the unit and cause damage. If you'd like more information you can reach out directly to Alpine at 800-421-2284.

No it does not have HD radio, but the radio it has works well. If your cell phone cannot receive data, then the map apps won't work, as it relies on our phone for the navigation, not satellites. You'd spend at least double what the W650 costs to get Sat Nav and CarPlay in one unit.

The EQ can be modified separately for front and rear sets of speakers. So you can cut the high end down on the speaker set that you think is overly "bright". See page 15 in the manual. That said, most component speakers have gain control on the cross-over for the tweeters and you might be able to adjust there as well.

If you are driven nuts by small things, this is not the head unit for you. I ran into several small things that I don't like... several things that just don't make sense. I think shoppers should understand that the quality of the Alpine iXL-W650 is good, but the interface is terribly outdated. This unit functions as a radio, functions as a phone connection (both BT and usb). But as far as navigating to settings, making changes on the go, or dialing in an ideal sound, it never quite delivers what you would expect it to deliver.

We have advisors that can be reached by calling 1-800-324-9695 who can give a recommendation on an amp that will work with this radio and your speakers/subwoofers including the wiring necessary to install the new amp

I'm new to this stuff so I'm a little unsure but when it says it has a built in amp that's 16 watt rms 4 way. Does that mean that it's putting 16 into each speaker or 4 into each speaker. My truck only has 2 so I'm trying to figure out if my speakers will be getting only 8 or 32?

4 channels (Left - Right Front and Left - Right Rear) , Each channel out put 16 watts. You can use either Left - Right Front or Left - Right Rear. Or add 2 more speakers to take full benefit of 4 channels. Good luck

This sounds like incorrect wiring. The device can dim the screen or make it brighter according to your beams, but they have to be wired the right way. Go back to whoever installed it for you and ask for a double check.

Does the sound (music) mute while using the maps or navigation feature using Apple Car Play?
    wayne  Nov 15, 2020
    2 answers
    A
It acts the same way as if you were getting directions right from your phone, as in theory that's what you are when you're using apple play. It automatically mutes the music/sound while the navigation is going with the apple car play. While you can mute the sound with the click of a button as well; the navigation speaks over your music you have playing or, you can turn the "turn by turn audio," off which is what I prefer, so you can have the map up on the alpine screen and it showing you the directions, while your music can play uninterrupted. Overall, over a year in and this has been a great head unit. I added the head unit "backpack" amplifier which installed behind the head unit and between this alpine, some new door speakers, and that amp, the music is crystal clear and sounds amazing.
    kurt  Nov 17, 2020
    A
It does not mute, but the volume level will decrease during navigation instructions & when you receive text messages or other notifications to your phone. It only mutes completely when you receive a phone call.

No. Not without a boatload of time and a good quantity of money. The Alpine has no protocol to control the CD player. The alpine also doesn't have the correct input plug... you might be able to get around the controls with something outboard, and pin out the connector and convert it to a standard audio signal, but I would say just rip everything to your preferred format and put it on a usb stick.

Hi Todd. It is not recommended to bridge the speaker outputs of a stereo. If you are in need of additional power to your speakers, you might consider the Alpine KTA-450A, or the KTA-445A. These amplifiers are compact, and fully compatible with the Alpine ILX-W650 receiver, and will supply you with 50 watts RMS or 45 watts RMS to your aftermarket speakers.

I have this radio installed in my 09 Tahoe. I have the iPhone XR. When I plug the phone into the usb cable, most of the time it tells me that the device is not compatible. When it does this it can take up to 5 minutes for it to connect. Other times it connects right away. I use the apple charge cable that came with my phone. I have tried unlocking the phone before plugging it in and also just plugged it in locked. Neither way makes a difference. Anyone know how to fix this problem or why it does it? Thank you.

Check the firmware version your W650 is running. If it is anything lower than 1.014 (released Jan 2020) upgrade to that version. Step by step instructions and all needed files are available off Alpine's website. I have the same phone (iPhone XR) and when I first got it it worked fine. After upgrading from iOS12 to iOS13, I began experiencing the same issue you're seeing. I loaded the new firmware about two weeks ago and that has resolved the issue for me, at least so far anyway.

It will likely not work with that Alpine. The USB input does not recognize data transfer from the older iPods. It would only charge the unit. What is the drive capability and what is the best recommended wiring? I.e., should I connect two 2 ohms in parallel?? Series?
    mark  Jun 30, 2020
    2 answers
    A
Hey, just a quick response from almost 20 years in the audio industry. The subwoofer is always sent a mono signal (not right or left or it would miss some of the sounds due to artists mixing. Just plan on the amp getting 1 mono signal, then buying the speakers that will match the ohm rating limits of the amp. If you run two 2 ohm subs in parallel, then you'll be running a 1 ohm load...In series a 4 ohm load, but with less power, but easier on the amplifier.
    mitchell  Jul 05, 2020
    A
This is dependent on your amplifier. You can get a 2 channel or a mono block amp so you only need the one set of rca outputs. Then you just have to match the subs with the amp for best power

Yes. You would actually get the KTP-445A for this unit if you do not want to rewire. KTP-445U would work too but is meant for non-Alpine head units. I got the KTP-445A but returned it and got the KTA-450 because it had more features such as LPF, HPF, low input connections, gain adjustments and a little more watts.

Using 2 cameras, I plan to set my primary camera to my RV camera but when I reverse do I have to manually select the secondary (reverse) camera or will it automatically switch when the head unit reverse trigger senses power going to that camera? I have power coming from the reverse lights on that camera.

You can set the secondary camera as the reverse camera in the menu which will make it be displayed when you shift into reverse

I use my front camera for off-roading and keep it on when I'm on the trails. Sometimes I have to reverse out of a trail. At that point, the rear camera will turn on and override the front camera. Once I get out of reverse, I have to turn the front one back on. It will not stay on the front camera once I get out of reverse.

    Q
i am looking to replace a kenwood 2din head unit due to several irritating issues and would like to know if this head unit also suffers from the same limitations. The issues stem from lack of processing power and memory. when using the USB media function, with large numbers of files, other head units (including the mentioned kenwood above) upon recieving a call, or switching to another audio source, the unit will re-scan the entire file list into memory, this can take several minutes and is annoying. also, due to either using bare minimum processors or limited memory, the file list from USB memory is sorted in the order it is read from the FAT table on the drive, so, as new files are added, they are listed not in alphabetical order, but in order they were read from the disk. Does this unit also function in this manner ?
    daveb  May 06, 2020
    2 answers
    A
The manual for this receiver states that the audio for the current mode on the unit is muted during the call which indicates that it does not change the source so it should not need to re-read the USB drive. As for the order the music is played from the USB drive, it is also played in the order it was written to the USB drive. I know in the past, software was available that could alphabetize your music when transferring to a USB drive and recommend checking to see what software is available now for this task and will work the best for you

Is the included USB cable good enough for Android Auto or will an Anker cable be more stable?
    jack_k  Feb 23, 2020
    1 answer
    A
Hard to say. I have an Anker cable plugged into the included Alpine USB cable to give me the length I need, but constantly have issues with Android Auto starting and stopping intermittently. I don't know if it's because I have two cables if it's because I'm not using just the Alpine cable, or if it's an issue with Android Auto and my device. I know that doesn't answer your question, but if you try the Anker cable and have the same issue, then it's likely the problem. I need to pull my dash apart again soon, and will try the Anker cable by itself and update this post with what I find. Hope that helps somewhat, and good luck!

It will not mirror the screen it will only display certain apps on android and Apple car play ( maps,Spotify etc.) very good head unit so far
    john  Oct 08, 2019
    A
No. Generally none of the receivers do this. You won't be able to browse the web or play movies and see it on the same screen. Instead you get Android auto or apple car play. These are applications that can control other compatible apps you have on your smart phone (such as Spotify, Pandora, iTunes, Google maps, Waze, navigation, etc). The interface allows you most of the same functionality and very similar screens you normally have for those apps. But it's not a direct mirror like an HDMI cable would have. It's still pretty sweet though.

Since the USB port is behind the unit, is there an outlet on the front dash kit to install the USB extender cable?
    baba  Sep 11, 2019
    5 answers
    A
nope, only the one in back
    wilson s  Sep 12, 2019
    A
This will depend on the dash kit. But most likely no. I recommend however to plug a long USB cable directly into the back of the unit, instead of using the the extender. When using that extension cord I noticed it caused issues with Android auto. I got a 6ft Anker cable and just connected that directly to the unit then squeezed in between the interior paneling so it was at a good spot. If you wanted to mount the extension cable you would have to probably drill and glue it in.

    danny  Sep 11, 2019

No. That is something you will need to figure out based on your car. There are options where you can replace a cigarette lighter with a usb port. Most dash kits won't supply this.
    kenneth  Sep 11, 2019
    A
The unit comes with a USB extension cable. It has a male connector to be plugged in the back of the unit with a female connector at the opposite end to allow for phone connection. Unfortunately, it is just a cable with no way to make it look pretty on a dash. There are a number of manufacturers that sell USB dash mount USB ports. You can check the PAC USBDMA6 sold at Crutchfield for a generic application or you can search Amaz0n for a custom application that fits your vehicle. Check the BATIGE Square Single Port USB 3.0 Panel Flush Mount found at Amaz0n for Toyota applications.

Where does the USB cord go after it's plugged in on the backside? How do you run it to the front?
    james  Aug 19, 2019
    1 answer

Hello Jimmy, the unit comes with a 42" USB cable that has a 90 degree head. Once plugged into the back of the unit, you can run the cables however you choose. If you line a quick solution and not worry about looks. You can just have the wire dangle from out your panel to the floorbed of your car. If you want a more professional look then I recommend the Pac Audio USB-DMA1 Adapter. Just find a nice place on your dash and drill a small hole to insert this adapter. It will give you a very OEM look. Hope that answers your question.

make sure the volume output to alpine on your phone is not muted. when you connect through Android Auto, there is a separated device volume control. It's not a simple Media Volume control any more on new OS. they usually auto muted or turn it very for newly connected device so that people don't accidentally blow up their ear drums :D

It doesn't directly have its own navigation app, you need to plug in your phone to use Android Auto or Car Play. I use Android Auto and Google Maps for navigation all the time, its great, way better than the built in nav in my wife's car.

It displays google maps through apple car play on screen, so I imagine it would do the same for android auto, but I do not know for sure as I have never had an android phone. It just makes sense that both Operating systems would work with Alpine.

Navigation is displayed from the phone through Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. The deck does not have separate navigation. The phones must be connected to USB.

The head unit doesn't have Navigation built in, but with Apple CarPlay (and I assume Android Auto) you can use any of several nav apps to display your navigation on the screen. I use Apple Maps and Waze, and both work very well.

This sounds like it may be an intermittent GROUND problem. Test by running a dedicated ground wire from the vehicle frame to the head unit wiring harness and see if that resolves it. Certain cars have rather weak ground wires in their main harness, most notably Nissans and certain Subaru models. It can happen in any car though. Good luck!

To be honest , I am starting to have problems with mine as well. Mine will go black and I'll have to restart my car or I'll have to clear out my phone and restart my car. I feel this is a poor product. I was thinking about calling Crutchfield and address this but I like the amp feature. I am not the one to complain either. I am hoping for an update or something to fix this.

Can this be synced with my car's (2016 Honda Civic) USB port?
    dustin  Jul 01, 2019
    1 answer
    A
While I'm not familiar with your specific vehicle, generally speaking you will lose the factory USB port anytime you upgrade to any aftermarket head unit. However, it's likely that you can reuse the same spot in your dash by replacing the USB port assembly too. The ILX-W650 offers a female USB-A port on the back, into which you can plug any compatible cable that meets your needs. For my 2013 Ridgeline, I installed a replacement dash port (Crutchfield Item #: 541USBDMA6) back into the original factory USB location with only minor fitting required. Download the owners manual from the Alpine website and see page 51 for an easy to understand diagram of how to do that. Good luck!

It has one USB port on the back. I tried using an extender that slit from one in to two out and the charging worked but not apple play or android play. I tried an IOGear hub and that didn't work either. There might be a way but I haven't found it. FWIW - in the end my solution was to route a USB extension to my center console and then have both an apple lighting and android usb-c (1' each) to do the final connection.

Yes... I would suggest you talk with the customer service reps and they can help you find one that retains all your controls. With my gm truck there are audible alerts and other things that actually play thru the stereo that I definitely needed to keep.

I order the kit they suggested when i placed the order for the radio. It had the steering wheel, on-star and chime controllers in it. My truck did not have the aux plug with it from the factory. I do not think so, At least I wasn't able to with a Nissan. As with most after market radios you do not retain most of the factory controls with out 3rd party applications. But it all depends on the type of car or truck you have.

Reverse camera displays when in reverse how does front camera work?
    ryan  Jun 06, 2019
    3 answers
    A
That's correct regarding the reverse camera. When I received my radio I had crutchfield do the wiring ahead of time. When I installed everything into my vehicle (2014 Jeep Wrangler) when I placed the Jeep into reverse the display switched to showing the backup camera (even though I don't even have one yet). For now, I am glad that I can disable that since for me it means the screen is just black since there's to camera to provide input. From the head unit's home screen you will see a Camera icon that will let you also view the front or rear camera whenever you like just by tapping. From within settings you can enable and disable cameras. It's all very intuitive. I had no intention of using this feature and didn't order cameras to save on costs but after seeing how it will work with the radio I will probably look for some inexpensive cameras down the road. It's a great radio. I've used it since May 2019 and have no regrets.

How many USB ports? I would like to use Android Auto and be able to plsy music from my USB at the same time.

1 USB. My experience trying to use Android Auto with this unit has been frustrating. It's AWESOME when it works but it often doesn't. The USB port is on the back of the unit so it comes with a USB extension cable which Android Auto worked through for a day or two but then I had to use a micro USB straight into the back of the unit to get AA to work. Even that isn't working currently as I got a new phone the other day and it's having trouble getting AA to work. Frustrating.
    frank  Jun 03, 2019

There is only one USB port, and it is on the back of the head unit. Once you connect a phone via a cable connected to this one USB port, and get Android Auto on the screen, you will not be able to play a USB drive's music. Take all that music on your USB drive, and upload it to Google Play Music in the cloud. Then play that through Android Auto.

Only one. You could choose to load the MP3s on your phone and use a program to play music that way (Google Music doesn't automatically show on the AA screen, if you navigate there on your phone, once up it's up!) while still using navigation/other Android Auto features - but a second USB port isn't included. I regularly use Spotify through Android Auto and have navigation open at the same time. The radio is perfectly capable of multitasking, you would just need to condense your music to your phone.

How long does this radio take to start up? Can I turn the screen off?
    blank  Mar 19, 2019
    1 answer
    A
There is no provided specification for "boot time" but it is very quick. The unit can be powered off but the screen cannot be disabled when the stereo is on. There is a dimmer function and also brightness control. Yes! The Alpine iLX-W650 will also charge (5V/1A) your Android smartphone or Apple iPod/iPhone device while connected via USB with the vehicle's ignition switch set to the 'ACC' or 'On' position. I hope that helps. My bio: https://www.crutchfield.com/bio/Ryan

Does the unit show album art with SiriusXM?
    kyle  Mar 08, 2019
    2 answers
    A
Currently it does not. This appears to be a bug in the headunit's firmware as the manual clearly shows that it is meant to display Channel/Album art in SXM mode.
    joel  Mar 17, 2019
    A
Sorry, no. Information such as Channel Name, Artist Name, & Song Title can be viewed on the head unit's touchscreen monitor but not the album art.

It does work with the Maestro RR, but only as a wiring harness/steering wheel retention module. It will not access or control any other kind of vehicle functions as the W650 does not have a iDatalink port.

Do I need Amplifier to support my 2010 subaru outback?
    jiabo  Feb 22, 2019

No. If you have the factory Harman Kardon sound system, the factory amplifier can be retained with the proper integration harness. If you have the basic audio option, the factory speakers can be powered by the Alpine stereo. Does this actually have an aux input as stated in the specs? I ordered one thinking it does but don't see it...
    russell  Feb 22, 2019

The only inputs this head unit has are the 2 video inputs for external camera support and the inputs for steering wheel control and external mic. Depending in your wiring harness adapter kit, it might allow you to use your vehicle's factory installed Aux-input, as long as that wasn't physically part of your original head unit.
