These R-S65C.2 6-1/2" speakers feature a carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) woofer cone that satisfies a hankering for strong bass response. A deluxe surround allows extended cone movement for high-impact sound as well as resilience in the face of harsh conditions. And the extended frequency range of the separate R-Series CFRP tweeter lets you savor all the rich detail of your high-resolution music files. Alpine includes a pair of external crossovers that are compact enough to easily stash away in most nooks or crannies.

Product Research

Driver Materials: The R-Series speakers use Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) woofer cones. This high-strength, lightweight material is formed with its fibers aligned in the same direction as the curve and shape of the cone, thereby reducing resonant peaks. This balance of light weight and rigidity improves the speakers' mid-bass performance and dynamic range. CFRP is also used for the tweeter diaphragm, enabling the system to perform into the 40 kHz range.

HAMR Surround: The R-Series speakers incorporate Alpine's patented High-Amplitude Multi-Roll (HAMR) surround, a technology developed for Alpine subwoofers that maintains control and stability at higher volume levels. HAMR surrounds combine increased cone area and long linear cone excursion for deep, powerful bass response.

Tweeter Mounting Options: The tweeters come installed in a flush-mount housing. Once mounted, the tweeters pivot approximately 15° in any direction, to improve the stereo image. You can also install the tweeters behind factory grilles using the included stealth mount brackets. The stealth mount brackets can be top or bottom mounted; they have multiple tabs that can be removed when not needed. The installed tweeter dimensions are:

Flush Mount (swivel) Factory Location (bottom mount) Factory Location (top mount)
Mounting Depth 0.665" 0.708" 0"
Mounting Height 0.378" 0" 0.805"
Cutout Diameter 2.0" N/A N/A
Frame Diameter 2.291" 2.5" x 2.5" 2.56" x 2.56"

Crossovers: A low-pass crossover is attached to each woofer's input terminal. Separate in-line high-pass crossovers are wired between the woofers and tweeters. Each woofer has two positive and two negative terminals, one for input from the amplifier, and one for output to the tweeter (via the in-line high-pass crossover). The 12" output wires attached to the crossovers are terminated with quick slides that connect to the terminals on the 30" wires attached to the tweeters. The quick slides on the attached 32" input wires connect the the terminals on the woofers. Because the crossovers are separate, the system can be bi-amped. Two-sided tape is included to mount the high-pass crossovers; their dimensions are:

  • Width: 1¼"
  • Height: 1"
  • Length: 2½" (2¾" including wire)

Tweeter Output Level: Each crossover has three tweeter level options, allowing you to precisely tune the high frequencies to the car interior and tweeter placement. Using the supplied jumpers select -3 dB, 0 dB (flat), or +3 dB.

Can you give me an Amplifier recommendation for these speakers?
[ Leonard  Apr 12, 2020 ]
3 answers
Hello Leonard- I'd look no further than the Alpine RA60F 4 channel. Run the S65.2C in the front (100 W,/ channel, so made specifically for this component set) and the S65.2 Coaxial in the rear and you will not be disappointed I assure you. I have this paired with the Type R 12 " DVC in a sealed box and the A60 Mono Amplifier, and it couldn't sound any better unless you add a Digital Signal Processor.... Alpine has done a nice job of simplifying this for us, at $449 I htink its priced just right. Hope that helps, enjoy!
[ Jennifer  Apr 13, 2020 ]
I would say anything of 75 Watts or more.
[ MARCELINO  Apr 12, 2020 ]
Hi Leonard, Great speaker choice! I think the Alpine KTP-445U is a perfect fit. It is very small and quite powerful. If you're only driving one set of your R-S65C.2 speakers then you can run it in 2-Channel mode (bridged) for 90w RMS per channel. This output matches perfectly with your speakers max RMS input (100w). If you're using two sets of speakers then you can run it in 4-Channel mode for 45w RMS per channel. I actually bought two of them so I could run both in 2-Channel mode for front and back. Your choice would depend on how loud you listen. They're small enough so that finding space is really not a problem. The specs are great and the price is right. You can get a rebate directly from Alpine right now also. I'm using these in a Dodge Dakota quad cab. There is one other choice I would recommend. It's a bit pricey and a bit of overkill but what a conversation piece! It would be the Alpine X-A70F. I use this in my Dodge Ram with X series speakers. At 120w RMS per channel for each of four channels (350w RMS bridged) you won't ever need another amp. The specs are fantastic. Just thought I'd mention it. There are rebates for this amp too (as well as your speakers). Just another side thought. I use the Alpine PWE-S8 subwoofer in both trucks. You wouldn't think the bass output from 120w RMS would be enough BUT IT IS!. Very small and fits under most any seat, even powered seats. Rebate on this too. I guess you can tell I'm a big Alpine fan. I've used their stuff for many years and have never been disappointed. Good luck with the rest of your purchases. I know for a fact you've got a good start!
[ Mark  Apr 12, 2020 ]
This is not a question! These do not fit in the front doors of a 2012 Chevrolet Equinox without an adapter plate/mounting bracket, from 1.75 to 2 inches. I haven't done the tweeters as of yet. Not a question. Its a ?
[ Ken  Mar 16, 2020 ]
1 answer
That is correct. Those Alpine speakers will not fit in the front doors of a 2012 Chevrolet Equinox without a mounting bracket. When you purchase the speakers from Crutchfield we included that part for free (along with a wiring harness)

Are the tweeters flush mount only or do they provide surface mounts as well?
[ Nicholas  Dec 10, 2019 ]
3 answers
They are both Flush and Surface mount capable and come with plenty of hardware for multiple mounting configurations.
[ Joseph  Dec 10, 2019 ]
Yes they provide surface mounts.
[ MARCELINO  Dec 10, 2019 ]
They have multiple options included.
[ Allan  Dec 10, 2019 ]
What's the cutout diameter for the tweeter?
[ Epic Auto  Jun 24, 2019 ]
1 answer
2 inches. Use a 2 inch hole saw, set your drill for reverse to cut hole if going into plastic. If you don't use reverse, you will more than likely shred whatever you are drilling into.
