About the Alpine RUE-M1RF

The bright sun out on the water does more than give you a great tan — it also makes conventional IR remotes impractical, since the light interferes with the IR remote eye. Alpine solves that problem with the RUE-M1RF RF remote system. Plug the included RF receiver module into the steering wheel controls jack of your compatible Alpine receiver, then use the RF remote to control the receiver from up to 100 feet away.

Don't worry about losing your remote when you hit choppy seas. The remote comes with a mounting cup, and you can string it onto a lanyard using the built-in tabs. Best of all, it floats if you do accidentally drop it in the drink. If you're unlucky, or want spares on hand, extra remotes are available.

The RU-M1RF is in a class all by itself, just for it's simplicity. I can't understand why the other manufacturers have not caught on to RF technology. If the thing is occasionally sticking due to environmental factors, it is easy to dismantle and clean. Then she is back to working good as new.

Pros: Simple, RF not IR!

Cons: She don't float, but is easy to clean and dry out.

I was a bit worried the remote wouldn't work from the fly bridge on my boat. After I installed it, I couldn't wait to test it. Before I knew it, I was sitting in my captain's chair turning the volume up and down with no problem. So nice to adjust the volume now from my fly bridge with the Alpine CDE-143BT stereo in the cabin.

Pros: Range

Cons: I wish it could seek pre set stations on the radio versus scanning to the next available station.

I bought this remote for my iDA-X100. It works fine, after I discovered you have to depress the "OFF" button to turn the unit on and off, while the owner's manual sez to use the SRC button. The switch membrane also seems to stick occasionally, which can result in constant transmission. But otherwise, it works like a champ, and I like the idea of a small waterproof remote that uses RF rather than IR for marine use - which means you can use it outside.

Still up in the air on this purchase

I purchased this unit hoping to control my Head Unit from the water. It works from a pretty good distance . . .but I have to push the buttons quite a bit. Almost like they are not working 100% of the time. Kind of bites cuz if you hold the remote and the volume goes WAY up. I have about 2000 Watts RMS (need to be able to bring volume down quickly) on my boat, it takes a good while for the volume to go down. The buttons stick a little also. I am going to call crutchfiedl tech support as I am thinking the battery may be weak. For now, I am giving it a middle of the road rating. Maybe with a new battery I will change my tune. I really like alpine gear.

Product Research

Features

Overview: The Alpine RUE-M1RF Marine RF Remote Control Kit is compatible with Alpine headunits that offer the steering wheel remote-control input. The RUE-M1RF kits comes supplied with one RF marine remote control and an RF receiver that plugs into the steering wheel remote control jack of your compatible Alpine headunit. In addition to the supplied RF remote control, additional single remotes may be purchased separately, if needed (item# RUE-M1EX). You can program as many as eight remotes to work with the same Alpine headunit. The Alpine marine remote uses RF (radio frequency) technology so you can control your system with the remote from up to 100 feet away. The RUE-M1RF Kit's remote also has the ability to float and is water resistant. The RUE-M1RF Remote Kit comes with a mounting bracket that the remote can clip into to prevent it from getting tossed overboard in rough waters. You can also string the remote through an optional lanyard and hang it up to prevent loss.

Customer Q&A

Q
Crutchfield asked: Why did you buy this?
A
I am a Master Car Audio Tech for 41 years and do a lot of custom cars and boats. This product is great for hide away the Alpine head unit and to be able to control the Alpine decks and feature with this remote system. Working on a $70,000.00 1970 Chevelle right now as we speak and have custom hid the head unit away from sight to leave the factory radio in ash, untouched. [ dale  Jun 10, 2017 ]

Wanted a waterproof remote for my Alpine marine receiver. [ Kevin  Feb 01, 2017 ]
A
It's a great remote, especially to be used on a boat. You can be on the dock and be able to raise the volume, change the station, etc. It works great. Replacing ours because it went "missing" during a dock party a few weeks ago. Someone else is obviously enjoying it! We attached it to a float, so we know it didn't go overboard!!! Keep it close as everyone who sees it wants it! [ S  Nov 16, 2016 ]
A
It is one of the very few remote controls for car audio that uses Radio Frequency. Ideal and perfect for in a RV to be able to control a car audio from anywhere in the vehicle. [ Mike  Jun 06, 2016 ]

Q
Would the RUE-M1RF work in a ILX 207? My car do not have steering wheel controls and I'm looking for a way to control de volume remotely when using apple carplay. At the moment I have a bluethoot remote that can advance tracks but doesn't contol volume when car play is active

A
It should. A quick glance at the installation instructions for the RUE-M1RF show the same plug as my ILX-207 has on the back.
[ MARK  Jul 13, 2019 ]
A
Your receiver must have the ability to plug in for steering wheel controls. The vehicle itself does not matter. Remote works well for volume control and changing sources.
[ Nathan  Jul 13, 2019 ]
Q
How do you use the remote to access pre-set radio stations?
