Alpine bluetooth valume knob

Jorge from Newark, NJ on 5/19/2023

Hey guys. I like the product. Easy to use and install. But do remember it is Bluetooth! It has to be waken up (just push or turn the knob) to connect it to radio every time you turn your radio on.

Pros: Easier to volume up and down

Cons: It you forget to wake it up when you start your car (turn your radio on) and you have Apple car play it will be hard to go to Bluetooth settings and connect from there.

Get it but..

Definitely buy it. But it has trouble connecting at start up. It would be way cooler if it skipped tracks and had a magnet mount. ??

Pros: Nice to have at your location of choice.

Cons: Have to connect every time by manual. No track skip and mounting options could be better like magnets or stickers.

Nice knob

Jessie from Orlando, FL on 4/5/2023

Easy set up, works as described, looks good cosmetics, small enough to fit anywhere. Connectivity is good sometimes. Connecting to the radio automatically through Bluetooth doesn't work all the time, so you'll have to connect it manually through your radio settings.

Pros: Looks great, small in size to fit anywhere, easy set up, works as described.

Cons: The knob doesn't connect to Bluetooth automatically all the time. You'll have to connect it to Bluetooth manually through your radio settings.

I like these, I have 1 in each car and it's very handy to adjust the volume and/or bass level. The only drawback is that you have to turn or push it as you're starting the radio up so it will connect itself. If you wait until after the radio has booted up you have to go into settings/devices and select "connect". It's not a big deal, I've just added pushing it when I start the car and it works great.

Useful / Portable

Virgil from Fort Myers, FL on 1/9/2023

Verified employee review (What's this?)

Great portability. Master volume and bass volume adjustment at your fingertips. I didn't realize how much I like adjusting both to dial in the sound of each song. Downside - have to remember to wake it every time you start your car. Which is fine and it is becoming habit. If you forget, in 3 clicks you can have it connected while driving. I would rather have the knob and make it a new habit. Alpine - the next version - it would be sweet if the knob articulated left and right or there was a seek button on it to change/repeat the track. I installed it in my center console near where I rest my hand and the ability to change the track would be very useful.

Needs refinement

Kate from Waynesville, NC on 1/4/2023

Verified employee review (What's this?)

Got this as a Christmas present for my dad. I have to say it feels pretty cheap (made out of plastic) and it seems like it should cost $30 instead of $80. It would be great to have a wired option, as you have to "wake up" the knob before turning on the head unit. The knob feels decent with the rubber grip, and the fact that it is Bluetooth means you can place it anywhere, which is convenient. One thing that would make this product almost perfect would be if there were no pairing issues when trying to connect the knob after the head unit is turned on. Nothing worse than realizing a few minutes into a drive that you forgot to wake up the knob and having to pull over, turn off the car, and turn it back on. If you could access the Alpine's head unit settings while driving to reconnect it would be less of an issue, but for some reason the parking brake has to be engaged. Overall worth it.

Don't recommend

Matthew from Seattle on 10/21/2022

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee review (What's this?)

I strongly recommend against buying this item unless you really need the wireless connectivity. I have to manually reconnect this volume knob to the Alpine head unit's bluetooth each time I start the car. What's worse than that is the Alpine head unit often does not give me access to the Setup menu (which is required to connect the volume knob) as it should when the parking brake is engaged (this is a known issue with many Alpine head units). This means the process of connecting the volume knob is typically 3-5 minutes of engaging and disengaging the parking brake until I can get the Alpine head unit to give me access to the setup menu, then go in to the menu and manually select and connect the volume knob from the list of devices. I am keeping the device only because it's wireless nature allows the people in the back seat to adjust the volume, which is convenient for longer trips.

Pros: wireless connectivity is convenient

Cons: must manually reconnect every time you start the car

Thought I wouldn't care, but I hate not having a volume knob. This did the trick. As long as you "wake it up" with a twist or a push before powering up your receiver, it works perfectly. Would've given it 5 stars if it connected without the wake up call.

Definitely a plus for volume control BUT!! You have to re-connect every time you start your car. Very annoying. Keeps asking to reconnect. If your doing errands and always on the go you don't have time or to think about having to reconnect the device. Please get a fix/software update!!

Pros: Great for quick volume control

Cons: Having to reconnect every time you start your car.

Great to have a traditional volume knob.

Al from Orange Park, FL on 9/6/2022

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee review (What's this?)

I'm enjoying having the option to adjust the volume with the turn of a knob. The Rux-H02 was easy to install and works great. As others have stated, to ensure a bluetooth connection you must press or turn the knob before turning on the radio. When I do, it has connected every time. Mounting location options were somewhat limited due to the fact the owner's manual states it should not be mounted in a location that receives direct sunlight.

Pros: Love the Knob for volume control. Looks good.

Cons: Should be included with the Alpine head unit instead of as an add on option.

Only Volume and Bass control?

Shoua from HICKORY, NC on 8/26/2022

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee review (What's this?)

This knob only does volume and bass control. Why did Alpine did not add track control to this knob?!? It also will not connect to my ILX-507 (already BT paired) when I turn the car on. Head unit always ask if I want to reconnect, and when I click Reconnect, it doesn't do anything. I then have to go into settings ->Devices and reconnect. So if you own an ILX-507, avoid this knob for now. I expected more features for this knob for this price! To be fair though, this knob can be easily installed most anywhere in your vehicle. The knob turns buttery smooth and is very responsive once connected and the volume increments very good with each turn. If you are good with soldering and electronics, you can research online and build a wired diy knob for Alpine head units that can do: skip forward, go to previous song, mute, and adjust volume for less money than this and can be custom mounted. Overall, this knob felt like a half-finished product, cause I feel that they should have added track controls to this knob. I will be returning this knob and building my own.

Pros: - Knob turns smooth - Can be mounted in various places. - Portable, if not mounted. - No cables to deal with. ( Connects to head unit by Bluetooth)

Cons: - Lacks track control features. - Pricey for only a volume and bass control knob. - Does not properly reconnect when paired with ILX-507 unit when unit has finished booting.

Great dual purpose controller

Jerohn from Clinton, MD on 8/26/2022

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee review (What's this?)

Great quick volume and sub level controller. Just have to press it before iLX-F509 boot-up or reconnect through Bluetooth menu after every start. Mounted beneath radio as I would have to disassemble the entire dash trim to access the back of the head unit and space for the mount was limited. Best to equip during initial installation. Doesn't mute the sound if you lower volume quickly like the touch and steering wheel - volume controls. Don't have to cycle through menus to access sub level.

Pros: Quick response and sub level access

Cons: Doesn't connect automatically at start up without a well timed extra step

Well made, looks great, functions well. Doesn't auto connect.

Crutchfield customer from SC on 8/25/2022

Verified employee review (What's this?)

Product looks great, feels great, and works great. The only issue, like others have mentioned, is that it doesn't automatically connect to the receiver. It's annoying having to wake it every time. Not really a problem, but a suggestion: make the functions programmable. My sub amp has a remote bass knob, so I only use the volume function on this. I'd love to be able to program the press to be a mute button instead.

Pros: Looks and design are great, and it functions very well. The grip and turning feel great. Immediate response with receiver.

Cons: Does not auto connect to receiver. Minimal functions.

Could have been better

Ernesto from Chandler, AZ on 8/24/2022

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee review (What's this?)

The first thing was that the hardware they sent with it to screw on to the back of the unit did not work. I had to use double-sided sticky tape to secure it to the vehicle. Every time you get in your vehicle turn on the radio you'd have to go into settings to reconnect the Bluetooth volume controller. If Wi-Fi was enabled on your stereo and on your phone it would not connect. So yes I am very disappointed on how this product ended up being.

Pros: The push knob is easy to control

Cons: It is frustrating to keep connecting it every time you turn on the head unit. Sometimes you have to turn off the head unit again just to try to connect it

OK, but, not great.

Kim from Dade City , FL on 8/24/2022

Verified employee review (What's this?)

I really do like the functionality of having the knob for volume control. The one thing I don't like about this is that it will not automatically connect to my head unit unless I "wake" it up prior to turning on the head unit. As long as I turn the knob before I start the car, it connects just fine. For what the head unit costs, it seems that it should be seamless integration.

Pros: Very smooth control. Looks like part of the radio. Looks like a quality part.

Cons: Won't connect automatically without "waking" it up.

Works well with a couple annoyances

John from Dunlap, IL on 8/18/2022

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee review (What's this?)

When connected, you get more or less immediate volume control, which is very satisfying. It beats the repeated pressing of the two buttons on the radio face or spinning of the volume dial on my steering wheel. Press-for-sub control is nice too. It won't automatically connect to the radio though. Right before I turn my car on, I need to turn or press the knob to wake it up so it will connect to the radio right at start up. Otherwise you either wait for the connection error window to pop up, or go through the settings to reattempt connection (arduous because of the parking brake lockout). I also wish its fascia had either a matte surface or a very flat glossy surface like the radio screen. As it is, it's got orange peel and is slightly raised around the inner and outer perimeter. When it catches the light, it's not a quality look. See my picture.

Pros: Fast response.

Cons: Doesn't auto-connect without being woken up first.
