Features

Kevlar Reinforced Pulp Cone: This Alpine Type-R subwoofer has a two-piece structural parabolic Kevlar reinforced pulp cone. Kevlar adds strength and tear resistance to the woofer cone while maintaining the benefits of a pulp cone design. There is also an oversized inverted poly-mica dust cap, which increases rigidity and virtually eliminates cone distortion at extreme volume levels.

HAMRS: The woofer features a High Amplitude Multi Roll Surround (HAMRS), made of Santoprene, that allows a large linear excursion and greater SPL. The HAMRS design allows extreme excursions without sacrificing valuable cone area.

Progressive Spider: The progressive Conex spider has reinforced layer tinsel leads to ensure reliable and consistent control of the tinsel leads and eliminate any mechanical noise or interference often seen in high excursion cone designs.

Compound Radius Curve Pole Geometry: Alpine's Patented Compound Radius Curve pole geometry ensures a symmetrical magnetic field, while optimizing flux density to reduce distortion and further improve power handling and output.

Oversized Voice Coil: The oversized (65mm), high-temperature, 4-layer dual voice coils offer increased power handling to 1000W RMS / 3000W Peak.

Dual Voice Coils: For system flexibility, the woofer has two 4-ohm voice coils. When the voice coils are wired in parallel, the woofer presents a 2-ohm load. When the voice coils are wired in series, the woofer presents an 8-ohm load.

Spring Terminals: The spring post terminals are all located on one side of the woofer. The terminals will accept bare wire up to 8 gauge, pin connectors, or banana plugs.

Jumpers: Included with the woofer are two voice coil terminal jumpers. These jumpers allow you to easily wire the voice coils in parallel (for a 2-ohm load) or series (for an 8-ohm load).

Enclosure Compatibility

Sealed Box Volume: The recommended sealed box volume ranges from 0.65 cubic feet to 1.1 cubic feet, with 0.85 cubic feet being the ideal size.

Ported Box Volume: The recommended ported box volume ranges from 1.1 cubic feet to 1.6 cubic feet. The ideal size is 1.48 cubic feet, using a slot port measuring 12-1/2" (W) x 1" (H) x 19" (L).

Q
Can i hook up two type s and a type r dvc 4 ohm to a 1000 watt alpine mono bloke?
[ T bag  Nov 28, 2017 ]
2 answers
A
is that 3 subs in total? if so yes you can it'll come out to about 2.7 ohms so a 2 ohm monoblock could power that no problem... if that's two dual 4 subs it will come out to 1 ohm and alpine doesn't make a 1ohm stable monoblock amplifier

You do not want to connect different subwoofer models to the same channel of amplification, no. For additional assistance and personalized recommendations, feel free to contact us directly by phone or through our online chat service: https://www.crutchfield.com/support/ContactUs.aspx

Q
What amp works well with this sub? And are extra car batteries or alternator upgrades required?
[ Taylor  Oct 29, 2017 ]

A
jl audio xd1000/1v2 would be a good choice, with stock battery, and alternator. i do suggest you do a big 3 upgrade tho and run 4gauge power n ground
[ Dayton  Dec 07, 2017 ]
A
If you are only getting one subwoofer than a mono amp would probably be the best choice at a 2 ohm load. Look for an amp with RMS around 1,000, but you can go lower. As an example Alpine MRV-M1200 would be a fine amp to pair with this subwoofer.

Q
Will these subs fit in Atrend A152-12CP box?
[ Chris  Jun 06, 2017 ]
1 answer
A
I would say absolutly NO they won't fit that box. This sub is pretty deep. However it is the best sub you will ever buy. I custom built a upward firing box.

Q
Will this box work for Alpine type r 12d4?
[ Chris  Jun 06, 2017 ]
1 answer
A
Which box are you referring to? Alpine suggests 14x14x11 for a sealed box or 23x12.5x14 for a ported box.

Q
If I have a box that is 1.79cf and I'm using a 4 inch round port how long should it be to tune the box around 35hz for the swr 12d4 ?
[ Steve  Mar 03, 2016 ]

A
Alpine recommends using a slot port measuring 12-1/2" (W) x 1" (H) x 19" (L) for their 12" Type R dual 4-ohm subwoofer. I hope that helps. My Bio: http://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=159

Q
Ported vs sealed box? Which would sound better/louder for this?
[ mike1337  Mar 22, 2015 ]

A
I think ported enclosure sound the best. Follow the enclosure sizing guide that comes with the subs
[ Brandon  Mar 23, 2015 ]
A
Sealed: better sound, smaller sized box Ported: a little more SPL, box is bigger I prefer Sealed, have mine in a 1,1 cu box

To be honest I am not sure exactly which part it is that you are looking for. Could you possibly clarify? Otherwise you can call Alpine customer support, you can find their number on the sub box or you can go online to get the number. I have called them several times in the past and they are very knowledgeable and helpful and they will get you what you need or tell you how to get it. I hope this helps you out, and good luck!

Q
Would this sub be ideal for the MTX thunderform enclosure?
[ OG77071  Nov 11, 2014 ]
3 answers
A
I would not use it in a smaller enclosure my brother had his in a smaller box under his truck seat and it didn't have half of the sound that mine had. This is a great speaker with a lot of boom but needs a good amount of space to sound good. It is in the specs. If you look on the page I forget the exact dementions but I would go with what it says
[ TRAVIS  Nov 12, 2014 ]
A
It depends on which thunderform you are going with. You need to check the depth the box provides for the sub compared to the actual sub depth. Airspace is another factor you should be considering. You should find out the enclosures airspace, and then find a sub with similar requirements. This will guarantee a quality sound, as well as ensuring a long lifespan for the sub.
[ ALLEN  Nov 12, 2014 ]
A
This sub works great with a ported box. It calls for 1.5 cubic feet of space, but my box has 1.83 and it shakes the car nice. Great sub for its value/cost. I definitely recommend it!
[ DYLAN ALEC  Nov 11, 2014 ]
Q
Can this alpine handle 6000 watts and 2300 rms?
[ Phillip  Sep 01, 2014 ]

A
No it's 1000 watts rms and 3000 watts peak power
[ BEN  Sep 01, 2014 ]

[ Andrew S.  Dec 28, 2013 ]
1 answer
A
Thanks for your question. For an amp recommendation I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone or online chat. They will be able to help determine the differences and help you make the best choice for your system and your budget.
