High-tech Class-D innards

Beefy internal components and the cleverly designed Thermal Flow chassis help the amp produce its power efficiently, with little stress to your vehicle's electrical system. Alpine designed this amp to exert tight control over speaker cones and deliver a very wide frequency response, so you'll experience a very realistic soundstage. A special comparator circuit corrects the output using the original input signal, minimizing phase issues for precise, high-fidelity sound.

Hidden controls and plug-in connectors

The amp's tuning controls sit protected under a removable top panel. Nifty speaker and power wire plugs make it easy to install or remove the amp, while ensuring tight connections and guaranteeing that your speakers work in unison. Gold-plated RCA inputs, outputs, and power connections resist corrosion and signal degradation. For a creative touch, you can paint the amp's trim panels to match or contrast with your vehicle's interior decor.

More details on the Alpine X-A70F

Product Research

X-Series Amplifiers: Alpine's X-Series amplifiers are designed for high performance, low distortion, power, and reliability. With Alpine ID (Image Defined), this Class-D amplifier delivers the imaging and sound stage depth that has been missing in most car audio systems. Alpine's proprietary circuit design provides the cleanest possible signal path, plus a dual-feedback loop, to meet and exceed the audio standard for High Resolution playback. The solid cast aluminum heat sink keeps the amplifier cool, even at peak power levels. Each X-Series amplifier comes with its own Alpine Verification Certificate, showing the tested power output at 2Ω at 14.4 DC voltage.

Channel Design: The Alpine X-A70F is a 4-channel amplifier, which can be configured for 3-channel or 2-channel performance. It is stable down to 2Ω in stereo, and 4Ω when bridged.

CTA 2006 Compliant: The X-A70F's power ratings are measured according to the strict standards dictated by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA). These standards allow you to accurately compare the rated power output of all CTA 2006-compliant amplifiers, even if they come from different brands. Manufacturers who adhere to the standards can display the CEA 2006 logo on their products and packaging. The CTA 2006 power output specs for the X-A70F are:

  • 4Ω: 120 watts RMS x 4 @ 14.4 Volts
  • 2Ω: 175 watts RMS x 4 @ 14.4 Volts
  • Bridged (4Ω): 350 watts RMS x 2 @ 14.4 Volts

Ultra-Wide Frequency Response: The Alpine X-A70F offers a super-wide, frequency range for unparalleled sound quality and detail:

  • +0/-3 dB (1W into 4Ω): 10 Hz - 60 kHz
  • +0/-1 dB (1W into 4Ω): 15 Hz - 30 kHz

Terminal Covers: The X-Series amps each have removable silver terminal covers on the front and sides that improve the appearance of the amplifier. Once you have made all of the connections and confirmed proper operation, you can attach the terminal covers by snapping them into place.

Logo Badge: The top of the amplifier features four bright white LEDs that glow when the unit is powered on. A self-adhesive Alpine Logo Badge is provided for placement over the LEDs so that the logo glows blue when lit. You can choose the orientation of the logo depending upon the installation.

Hidden Controls: The amplifier's controls are hidden behind a removable top panel. The panel can be lifted by removing two hexagon screws with the supplied 2mm Allen wrench.

Gain Control: The X-A70F provides independent rotary controls for the front and rear channels to set the amplifier's gain according to the level of the incoming signal. The amp will accept low level signals from 0.2V to 4.0V, or high level signals from 0.5V to 10V. An input level switch on the front panel should be set to match the type of input signal used.

Input Channel: You can choose to send a 4-channel signal from the source unit to the amplifier, or feed all four channels with a 2-channel signal. The Input Channel Selector switch can be set to "1/2" if you have a 2-channel input signal, or to "3/4" if you have a 4-channel source.

Crossovers: The Alpine X-A70F offers independent crossovers for the front and rear channels. Each crossover has a 3-way switch (Off, HP, LP) and a rotary cutoff frequency control (50-400Hz). The crossovers have a slope of 12dB per octave.

Optional Remote Bass Control: The amplifier has an RJ-25 modular jack for adding the optional RUX-KNOB.2 Remote Bass Level Control for controlling the rear channels (CH-3/4) of the amp remotely. The RUX-KNOB.2 has a 20dB range of linear adjustment.

Terminal Layout: For wiring convenience, all of the inputs and outputs on the amplifier are on one side.

Quick Connect Plugs: The X-Series amplifier uses quick connect plugs to attach your system's speaker wires and power cables to the amp for a simple, error-free installation. The quick connect plugs have set screw terminals that can be tightened/loosened by the supplied hex wrenches (2mm or 4mm). The power, ground, and remote turn-on connections are made to a single quick connect plug. The power and ground terminals will accept up to 4 AWG (recommended) wire, while the remote terminal will accept up to 12 AWG. There are two quick connect plugs for connecting the front and rear speaker wires. The speaker terminals will accept up to 8 AWG wire.

Input: The Alpine X-A70F is equipped with two pairs of RCA jacks for connecting low-level or high-level input signals. If connecting the source unit's speaker wire to the input jacks, you can use a Speaker-to-RCA adapter or splice an RCA plug onto the speaker wire. When using a high-level input signal, it may not be necessary to connect a remote turn-on lead because of the amplifier's remote sensing function.

Fuses: The Alpine X-A70F is equipped with two 35-amp ATO fuses. A 70A external fuse should be placed on the +12V power wire within 18" of the battery.

Customer Q&A

15 questions already asked

Will this run front and rear speakers separately in a 2014 f250 crew cab with factory stereo?
[ Dusty  May 27, 2022 ]
1 answer
You will want to contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat to discuss compatibility with your factory system. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and see if this will integrate. If it does not, then they will also be able to discuss other options with you.

Will this be okay to power the alpine type R 6.5" rated at 100rms or will me cranking the volume be too much for them?
[ Timothy  Oct 16, 2021 ]
2 answers
Absolutely not, hopefully you have some woofers tho
[ KYLE  Dec 22, 2021 ]
it would probably be alright but I don't want to lead you a stray it might blow them. this amp is designed for use with the X-series speakers, although it is capable of running any speakers. I have my amp running 2 sets of 6.5" and they sound amazing. I highly recommend the x-series speakers if you are still in the market if not and you already have the R-series speakers I would stick with an R-series amp
[ BRIAN  Oct 17, 2021 ]
What output voltage should I set my Audiocodes DM-608 DSP/LOC as when connecting amps to it? It defaults to 5 volts, but can be sent to 10. I am connecting Alpine X-A70F and Alpine X-a90M
[ Tim  Oct 15, 2021 ]

Good question. I've learned from audio control that it depends on your amps if they are capable of receiving 10 volts, or more I'm running audio control LC-6.1200 and it says in the (SPECIFICATION's) that max "speaker level inputs" are 40v and the "line-level inputs" are 8v max. and I'm using my DM.608 off the factory head/amplifier to the speaker-level inputs 8v, up to 40v. max, from the 608 to the LC. I'm running 5v to the LC.' line-level inputs max 8v. (CHECK THE SPECIFICATIONS).
[ Richard  Oct 19, 2021 ]
Leave it at 5V. 10V will overdrive the input stage of the amps.
[ JOHN  Oct 18, 2021 ]
Can u connect 6 coax speakers on X-A70F and still get the full potential of all 6 speakers.?
[ angelx  Jul 29, 2021 ]
1 answer
It is possible to connect 6 coaxial speakers to this amp and each get the full power they can handle. Not just any coaxial speaker will work and I recommend contacting an advisor by calling 1-800-324-9695 to check if there are speakers that can fit the installation locations which will meet this goal.

I bought the Alpine XS65C and the Alpine XS65 will this amp work the best or should I go with the Alpine X-A90F?
[ Aaron A.  Oct 18, 2020 ]

The installer and I did find out that the 70 doesnt pair well with the cheap stock toyota deck I am using, caused many issues, and sadly crutchfields tech support tried blaming it on other things like line inputs when my installer called them...So beware if you are using a elcheapo deck with this amp.

The Alpine X-A90F or the Alpine X-A70F?
[ Aaron A.  Oct 18, 2020 ]
They are all very good actually especially if your using components

Yes it wil!!!
[ RONN PRYCE  Sep 03, 2020 ]
Yes it will work , ideally you would want to go with 4-120watt speakers to take advantage of the amps power handling capacity.
[ allen  Sep 03, 2020 ]
Definitely will work...just ensure you follow the instructions on how to set the gain as to cut down on distortion.
[ Arthur  Sep 03, 2020 ]
I have Alpine X-A70F 120W x 4 Car Amplifier hooked to it. Nice unit, but I would opt for the better model of alpine.
[ charles  Sep 03, 2020 ]
my factory radio does not have rca outputs. How will this amplifier connect with my factory radio?
[ david  May 26, 2019 ]

Audio control LC2i OEM Line Converter is a great option
[ RONRICO  May 27, 2019 ]
You will need to splice rca to speaker adapters to the speaker leads and then feed into the amp with an rca. You also need to switch the input setting to high level. I spliced on 2 rca to speaker converters and ran a 4 channel rca back to the amp.
[ Dustin  May 26, 2019 ]
Can this amp be used to drive a subwoofer and 2 component speakers?
[ Sergeant Scout  Mar 28, 2019 ]
3 answers
You can drive 2 component speakers at 120 watts RMS per channel at 4 ohms and bridge the remaining 2 channels to drive a sub(s) at 350 watts RMS at 4 ohms. If you have any other questions or concerns about wiring or matching speakers and subs you can connect with one of our friendly Product Advisors here:
[ Cosmo  Apr 14, 2019 ]  Staff
You can make this a 3 channel amp running 4ohm120w per channel- when wiring 2 speakers and a sub you'll be at 240w 4ohm on the sub!
[ herbert  Apr 08, 2019 ]
Yes, you can. You can refer to Alpine's owner's manual, at their website, at page 15. Crutchfield does not allow me to include internet links, so I cannot share the actual manual's site. But to answer your question, yes you can, according to the owner's manual from Alpine.
[ CHRISTOPHER  Apr 06, 2019 ]
In terms of SQ alone, is this on par with the PDX series? The PDX is a benchmark for class D, but I haven't heard much about this series.
[ James  Oct 13, 2018 ]
1 answer
Absolutely. Alpine's X-Series amplifiers are designed for high performance, low distortion, power, and reliability. Their Ultra-Wide Frequency Response makes them perfect for high-resolution (better than CD quality) playback.

What's the best 6.5 in speaker to go with this amp?
[ Mudman  Jul 06, 2018 ]
1 answer
This will depend largely the 6-1/2" speakers that will fit in your vehicle. For a more personalized recommendation, please contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help determine the best speakers that work with the Alpine amp while also fitting your vehicle, budget and personal tastes. Thanks! :)

Whats the average birth sheet power rating ?
[ Kcmtbr  Oct 24, 2017 ]
1 answer
There is no provided average from the Alpine Verification Certificates. You can expect to get the rated wattage (120 watts RMS x 4 at 4 Ohms, 175 watts RMS x 4 at 2 Ohms or 350 watts RMS x 2 when bridged to 4 Ohms) or greater with a 14.4 volt power input.
[ Ryan  Nov 01, 2017 ]  Staff
Anyone know if this a fairly better SQ amp vs the PDX-F4 ?
[ Kcmtbr  Sep 30, 2017 ]
1 answer
It is more powerful than the PDX-F4 but has the same THD rating (1%) and a lower signal to noise ratio.
