A frugal CarPlay option

Soundstream VRCP-65 DVD receiver

Apple CarPlay enables your iPhone's interface to work directly on this receiver. You can also call upon Siri for voice commands.

Go wireless with Bluetooth®

Bluetooth enables wireless streaming for music, podcasts, and audiobooks, along with the convenience of hands-free phone calls. This Soundstream lets you quickly switch between two paired phones — handy for vehicles with more than one driver. You can install the included wired microphone close to you, so callers can hear you loud and clear.

E-link for Android phones

If you're an Android user, you can of course stream audio from your phone wirelessly using Bluetooth. But once you load the Autolink app from the Google Play store on your phone, you can plug your phone into this receiver's USB port. The VRCP-65 will show off your phone's display on its big screen and charge your phone. You can use its touchscreen controls to run the show on your phone.

Ways to your music

CarPlay gives you access to lots of Internet radio apps, like Pandora®, Spotify®,  and Amazon Music®. If you're looking for radio stations that won't fade away when you look for new adventures, add a SiriusXM tuner to this Soundstream to enjoy satellite radio's deep programming from coast to coast. You can also connect a USB drive full of your digital tunes, slide in a CD, or go old school with AM/FM radio.

Other cool options

In addition to being a great display for system and song info, you can also use Soundstream's 6.2" LCD screen to view movies and video from DVDs and other sources when your car is parked. If you want to take your show on the road, connect a video screen to the video output on the VRCP-65 and keep your passengers entertained. If you like to tweak your sound, you'll dig this receiver's 10-band equalizer. The five 4-volt preamp outputs let you add an amp and subwoofer for some added depth to your music.

    2015 Mazda 6 Sport

My wife has a 2015 Mazda 6 Sport which we purchased brand new. It doesn't have Car Play. It is also NOT eligible for the Mazda "upgrade" to the new system with Car Play. Even if it was it would have been $600+. I found this VRCP-65 radio and bought it. I also paid for the VERY worth it, pre harness wiring. I was able to install the radio my self. Works GREAT! Wife is very happy! Sounds slightly better than the stock radio. I had an issue with the Axxess steering control module to retain the factory steering wheel controls. I call support and BIG thanks to Austin! Professional, calm, new exactly what I was explaining. All I had to do was switch a couple wires around and BINGO! Thanks Austin! (and Crutchfield!)

Pros: Good sound, CarPlay works flawlessly also. Fairly easy install in Mazda 6

Great system for the price. Crutchfield installation guide, pre-wiring and phone assistance made self-install a snap. Inexpensive way to add CarPlay and satellite radio for an older vehicle. Unlikely to have done this on my own had I purchased elsewhere.

    Pros:

Cons: Fixed buttons may not be as responsive at times however included remote makes up for this issue.

Overall, I really like it. The price point is great, the functionality is awesome, but the secondary volume is killing me. Because I have tinnitus and sensitive hearing, adjusting the phone and directions volume is challenging as it is separate from the main volume for radio/itunes type use.

Pros: Looks great in the dash, works seamlessly with CarPlay.

Cons: Secondary volume for directions/phone are HORRIBLE. Even though it reduces the volume for whatever is playing, it is still many decibels higher for no reason. When on the phone, sometimes the volume has to be turned up, fine, but when GPS voice guidance comes on, it is ridiculously loud. In my case, I have sensitive hearing (and tinnitus), so this is extremely painful. This volume can be adjusted only WHILE IT IS IN USE, so it is frustrating.

I have grown dependent on Apple Car Play on our newer GMC's (Denali and Sierra). I installed this in a 2004 Chevy Tahoe (with Bose) and it really does make it feel like a new car again. The install with the ReadyHarness was a breeze. The only issues (which are very minor) with the install were: 1) tapping into the parking brake wire does not seem to help with video playing -- but I don't use the video; and 2) the bezel does not quite cover up the gap, but not very noticeable. I also lost steering wheel controls but I knew that going in. Operationally, I used Car Play almost exclusively and that works very well for me. As good, if not better than my stock units in the 2017 Denali and Sierra. I am very happy with this product and Crutchfield all around. Thank you.

Pros: Apple Car Play functions well, installation was easy with ReadyHarness

Cons: Tapped into parking brake wire but that does not seem to have unlocked the video play. I have not pursued further as I don't need that function. Bezel did not completely cover gap but hardly noticeable.

I'm really enjoying this radio! Very easy to install! Instructions were clear and simple. Technical support with Crutchfield is way ahead of the rest! Apple Car Play is wonderful and super convenient! The install kit recommended for my truck worked perfectly. Really recommend watching a double din radio install for your vehicle "first" on U-Tube! I only have one complaint with the Soundstream VRCP-65. It takes a little too long for the radio to boot up once turned on. Not a deal breaker by any means. Great radio so far! The extended warranty is cheap so worth buying for 3 years of peace!

For the money, we are quite pleased with this unit. The sound quality is pretty good is on par with the old factory radio which had an premium factory system. The screen is quite nice and the resolution for the back up camera we installed is actually quite a bit higher and more clear than our other car that came with a factory installed system. The radio does take a longer amount of time when first starting up. Be prepared to wait a bit. It is relatively responsive once it is up and running, though it can be laggy for some button presses, such as trying to do multiple volume increases or decreases or setting things like balance or fader. General button presses for menu items or picking radio or Apple Carplay on the main screen is quick and responsive. For Apple Carplay to work, you MUST connect your iphone to the radio's USB. It will not work unless the phone is physically plugged in. Apple car play features work well. Plan on figuring out a spot in your car to run the radio's USB cable to if you are planning on using Apple Carplay. Overall, buy this radio with confidence. The advertised features work well and for the price, the few slight downsides, like sometimes laggy on screen button presses, are easily ignored.

Pros: Features work as advertised. Good screen resolution. Generally responsive and quick enough when switching through features. Lots of features for a reasonable price.

Cons: Slow to first boot up and start running. Sometimes laggy button press response.

Easy install but it's my 4th car I've upgraded the radio. I was able to use all of my parts from last jvc to connect sound steering wheel control and dash mount. Only thing from 5 star was radio did start up once after install with no memory of steering wheel controls and time and radio presets cleared. Simple power off and back on fixed issues

Pros: Carplay works great, easy Bluetooth setup, great sound to my JBL speakers 2010 Prius

Cons: iPhone has to be unlocked for carplay to be selected and doesn't support wireless carplay and one power up error but power off and power on fixed issues right away

I purchased this unit and had my mechanic install it and I am totally in love with this product. I love the Apple Car Play. I just plug my I I phone( XS Model) in and can use the maps, make phone calls, text and listen to my I Tunes all with voice command using Siri. I also purchased a back up camera with my unit which interfaces seamlessly. All in all, a great unit at an affordable price. Also, when I purchased the unit, I spoke with a Customer Service Sales Rep named Simon who was very knowledgeable and was able to explain to me which unit would be best for me based on my needs.

    Pros: Great Product

    Cons: None

Installed the Soundstream VRCP-65 into my 2005 Tahoe z71 with Bose System. It is a nice upgrade over the factory system as it adds bluetooth, video playback and CarPlay. Video playback from a USB drive is good, minus the aspect ratio being a little off. Not sure why that is, there may be a setting that I just haven't changed yet. When I purchased the unit I had an iPhone X, but since have changed to a Huawei P30. Android Mirrorlink (NO Android Auto support) is rather meh. I can't really dock the unit though because I knew going into it that it only supported CarPlay and Mirrorlink. I do wish the unit had two USB ports, one to leave a USB drive plugged into (movies, pictures, etc) and one for CarPlay/Mirorrlink support.

    Pros: CarPlay

    Cons: MirrorLink, No Android Auto.

All in all a good unit, just not great when it could be. Touch screen is sensitive when it wants to be, not when you want it to be. Volume control seems to take a moment to respond, otherwise features are well thought out and in good locations.

Pros: Power seems to give even poor speakers a new life, unit is well made and solid feeling, comes with everything you need. Price is great.

Cons: Touch screen has a mind of its own some days.

Bought this for my 05 GMC Envoy. Price compared to other stereos with apple car play is beyond fair. Works great. The microphone that comes with the stereo is on point. You have the ability to add a back up camera.

Pros: 1. The ability to use your phone gps through apple car play has been great. 2. Apple car play 3.overall easy to use

Cons: 1. Steering wheel controls, my source button doesn't work with the system although it's bit that big of a deal. 2. I also can't Shazam songs playing on the radio if connected to apple car play.

I've had installed a few weeks at this point. It's a really great radio. I've pretty much used the apple play exclusively. I love the 10 band tuner. Haven't tried the DVD player. It does have a pretty lengthy boot up time, but to my knowledge most of these radios also do. I will say that the volume control can be a bit annoying. It's a touch pad and a bit small, not an actual button though. I am starting to get used to it and over all, it isn't enough to change my opinion. I'm very happy with the buy, especially considering the price. The three things I wanted most out of a radio were touchscreen with apple play, wattage and lastly, for it to look like a stock setup. This radio had all of these. 10 band tuner was a true bonus. Definitely would buy this again.

Pros: Apple play, wattage, DVD player, 10 band tuner,

Bought this for my son's older vehicle (2004 Expedition) so he could have hands free calling and apple play features (waze, music apps). Installation was a snap if you just take your time. It's playing with the existing speakers and the sound is teenager approved. Would buy this again and probably will for my other cars.

Pros: One of the least expensive apple car play options with a dvd screen out there. Works great and waze is a life saver on long trips. The wired microphone for hands free calling works surprisingly well.

Cons: Sometimes pressing the volume controls takes a time or two to register. You do need to disconnect / connect your phone during pit stops if you turn the power off.

Installed in my daughter's car installation was really easy and it works great for phone calls and apple car play. Very impressed with it. 2 weeks earlier I had installed the Pioneer 2550 NX in my truck and I was genuinely impressed with this little unit. If it last it will definitely be outstanding.

Worth every penny. Amazing headunit, amazing price point. I dont run apple, so I'm not even enjoying half the cool stuff this deck does. I run android, love the android link. Pics, dvd, to link provides excellent video quality. Love the color change option. Ability to match dashlights colors. Going to be installing a reverse camera and it already to go.

Absolutely best bang for your buck! The apple car play works extremely well!! And the navigation does as well. Bought this for my girlfriends car and she loves it, I'm honestly thinking about buying on for my truck now. The touch screen is awesome also, it's not like a normal touch screen radio, the screen feels like a multitouch hard smartphone screen. Very pleased.

Pros: Apple car play, nice hard touch screen, navigation, rear view camera option, great quality.

Cons: The software could be a little fancier so it matched the apple carplay, but all around a good product.

I ordered this as a Christmas gift for my mother. I installed this in a 2007 Hyundai Veracruz. The installation was fairly easy, however, once securing everything in place the dash kit sent with the unit fitment was a bit off to where there is a little space between the unit and dash piece up top when it should have fit perfectly. Other than that, this is an amazing unit. Everything worked well upon checking out car play, Bluetooth for playing music as well as the hands free calling. My mom has had it and used it for a month now and she loves it with no complaints.

Pros: Sound Touchscreen Apple play compatible Bluetooth calling

I gave 3 stars but maybe 3.5 if I could. It's an ok deck but with the prices of pioneers dropping I would have been better served to get one of those. This has some annoying little quirks. Having car play and 4v preamps was a must have and I was outti g this in my second car 14 year old Audi and doing the entire system. So was trying to go on the cheap. So in addition to the Pros just stated and the price, it does have good sound quality as well on iPhone/pod and lesser so on Sirius and any apps. And here are the cons that annoy me and why I really say spend a lil more and be happy 1. Fm radio reception is beyond bad. Useless for real. 2. The clock never has time and date right no matter how many times you set it 3. Screen will freeze randomly and u have to reboot and power off radio. 4. Remote is full function but worked for less than a week. 5. When u have car play on and phone plugged in and then park and turn off car and leave phone plugged in.....say to get gas....When you restart car the phone probably only is detected and reconnects to car play 1/3 of time. You have to disconnect multiple times and even power off radio to get it to reconnect even though it was never unplugged

I installed this in my Grandsons car, for the money this head unit rocks, with a quality backup camera the picture is better than my Genesis G80. Installed it with backup camera, powered sub-woofer, 4 new speakers and blue tooth for about $600, it sounds great and with Crutchfield's help saved over $400 that another retailer would have charged for installation. It would be perfect with nobs for tuning and volume but have it connected to the steering wheel controls so it works great. Outstanding deal!

Just OK.. Not Great.. For the most part the radio has some very good features for the price. I have some issues with sound quality while on the phone. If you turn the volume up to hear the person speak the sound distorts pretty bad. The response to your touch is absolutely horrible. There is a serious delay when you press the volume up and down buttons and for the most part any button or the screen. You have to be patient!!! I tried sending an email to Soundstream tech support but never received an answer. I was hoping for possibly a firmware update or something. I do not see anything on their website for updates to this product. Would i buy it again??? NO. This radio needs some serious firmware updates, hopefully they do it!

Pros: Apple carplay for this much? THATS IT. every other radio has the other features.

Cons: Seriously slow response to the touch especially in the cold weather. Bad sound quality for the phone.

I bought this and the recommended accessories to replace my Pioneer AppRadio4 which has given me problems for years. Installation was simple (all the parts were not sent the first time so I had to install it twice). Digital functions sound great. The non- carplay features (radio, bluetooth, etc) sport a kind of ugly but functional design. The radio function deserves its own paragraph. The radio has very weak reception. Not so great. Crutchfield confirmed this when I called their tech support. I bought an FM amplifier. Hope that fixes it. Luckily I have an unlimited ATT data plan so I can use Radio.com and other radio apps but when you are in the middle of South Dakota or driving by the Sprint Campus in suburban Kansas City, you sometimes don't have any data. I'd buy this again if it holds up. Its a great value and will be better when I add my FM amplifier.

Pros: Cheap, Easy to Install, Works, Looks Nice, Great Features

Cons: Poor FM Reception - get a booster.

The unit can't keep the correct date. Also, whenever I am connected via Bluetooth and I push the home button on my phone to activate Siri the microphone does not pick up on the stereo. I have to plug in my phone to use Apple play, or disconnect my phone from the Bluetooth to use Siri. My previous $60 stereo in my car would do that no matter what I was listening to at the time. I have spent over $300 to get this unit and install it. Unacceptable.

Have been looking for a reasonably priced Apple CarPlay receiver for some time. This is going into an older RAV4. The installation was very easy and the instructions helpful. Crutchfield makes it easy with the installations kits, The steering wheel controls work just as we were hoping they would and the sound quality is much better than the factory installed receiver. Bass is more defined and high end not as harsh. It is also more powerful than the factory receiver so we can play it a bit louder without distortion.

Pros: CarPlay Installation kits Sound quality was very impressive given the price. Can add back up camera if we decide to. Installation support offered by Crutchfield.

I bought this unit for my 81' Mustang T-Top Coupe. I only drive it a few times a month so I couldn't justify buying a $500-600 radio, so I figured I'd take a chance on it. Man was I surprised! I have a Kenwood unit w/CarPlay/Garmin Nav/Backup Cam/XM and a bunch of other features that I also bought from Crutchfield and to be honest I'm not as happy with the Kenwood as I am with the SoundStream. The Kenwood CarPlay cuts in and out ALL the time during phone calls. This unit however has worked flawlessly from day one for me! I'm seriously considering buying another one and putting it in my Tundra (daily driver) and getting rid of the POS $500-600 Kenwood! Save your money and buy the SoundStream VRCP-65!

I took the risk of getting a new product and installed in my mom's 2014 Forester. 1) I bought it because I liked the capacitive display versus the resistive unit I have on my truck 2) I'm an android user so I really liked the android mirror link because you can screen mirror everything you do on your phone. Check online videos for reviews on this unit to see how it works. Great is how it works. Phone needs to be plugged in in order to screen mirror 3) My mom has an iPhone. I briefly tried the carplay and it looks good. Again, phone needs to be plugged in to enable Carplay 4) Bluetooth audio - works good. I wish it were more like my brothers Tacoma where you can easily select between multiple users. Unfortunately it is a manual process where you have to pair and find a new device if you want to switch from phone to phone. Not a big deal if you're the only one driving the car 5) Reverse camera - works well. When you're listening to music then throw it in reverse, the music stops playing. Once you take it out of reverse, the music continues. If you're on a phone call however, it will not cut you off when you throw it in reverse. 6) Issues: Steering wheel controls - wiring is done correctly but I haven't gotten this to work yet. The installation kit I received from Crutchfield also didn't fit the unit. Not sure if that's Crutchfield, Soundstream or Subaru's fault. All in all, I would definitely recommend this product for the price. I'm going to buy another o

Pros: Capacitive Display is way better than resistive display. Android Mirror Link is awesome

Cons: Only minor issues as explained in my review. Nothing major so far *knock on wood*

We actually used the same microphone from the JVC since it was the same connector and didnt have to reroute new wires, and instantly her call quality improved. She too has a backup camera and it works nicely with a good image. After a month of having in her car, she hasnt found anything to complain about, which makes 2 happy customers. Thanks Soundstream and Crutchfield!

iPhone (CarPlay) & Android (Phone Link) Integration

Apple CarPlay: Apple CarPlay is the smarter, safer in-vehicle interface to operate your iPhone (iOS 7.1+) with Lightning-connector. Your iPhone must be connected to the Soundstream VRCP-65's rear-panel USB port (attached to chassis via 57" cable). Apple CarPlay launches immediately upon connecting your iPhone to the receiver via USB. A familiar user interface will appear on the receiver's touchscreen including the home button to activate Siri voice control. Use CarPlay to get directions, make phone calls, listen to voice mail, send/receive messages and select music in a way that keeps you focused on the road ahead.

    • Maps: Apple Maps will be mirrored on the receiver's touchscreen, including traffic information and estimated time to destination. Use Siri or the receiver's touchscreen controls to request turn-by-turn directions, and search by address or by points-of-interests (POIs). If you have iOS 12.0 or newer on your iPhone with the latest version of Google Maps or Waze (coming soon), you can choose to navigate via Google Maps or Waze instead of CarPlay. Google Maps and Waze do not support Siri voice control, but will have there own proprietary voice control function which has to be accessed through a touchscreen icon on the receiver.
    • Phone & Messages: Use Siri or the receiver's touchscreen controls to make calls, return missed call, listen to voicemail messages, and answer calls with caller ID notification. You can also ask Siri to send, read, and reply to text messages. This hands-free operation minimizes distraction and allows you to keep your hands on the wheel and eyes on the road.
    • Music & Apps: Access your iPhone's music by artist , song, playlist, and more through the receiver's touchscreen control or via Siri. The receiver will mirror the iPhone screw with artist and track information, including album art. Apple CarPlay also supports audio form select music and podcasting apps - including Pandora, Spotify, iHeart Radio, TuneIn Radio, Slacker Radio, Vox, Audiobooks.com, Audible, Stitcher, MLB.com At Bat, CBS Radio News, NPR One, & OverCast.

Note: Bluetooth hands-free phone and wireless music streaming cannot be used while Apple CarPlay is being used with a connected iPhone.

E-Link w/ Auto Link App (Phone Link): The Soundstream VRCP-65 will mirror your Android OS 5.0+ device's display and audio through the use of its USB connection and the Auto Link App. Your compatible Android device's screen will be displayed on the VRCP-65's touchscreen monitor, while audio from the Android device will be heard through your connected speakers. You'll even get control of your connected Android device through the Soundstream receiver's touchscreen monitor. Use E-Link and the Auto Link App to mirror navigation, social media, and video apps on the VRCP-65; as well as listen to music apps and podcasts through your car speakers. Follow these instructions to enable E-Link (Phone Link) on your compatible Android smartphone and the Soundstream receiver -

    • The "Unknown Sources" setting found under Security Settings of your Android phone must be enabled and set to "On". You must also access "Developer Mode" and enable "USB Debugging" in the Android phone's Settings menu. How to access these settings depend on your model Android phone.
    • Plug in your compatible Android smartphone via USB and press the "Phone Link" icon on the VRCP-65's touchscreen. Your phone's screen should now be mirrored and controlled from the VRCP-65's touchscreen monitor.
    • There is "Circle" Icon at the bottom of the touchscreen which allows you rotate your smartphone's mirrored image horizontally or vertically, go back to the previous screen of your phone, and bring up your home's main menu screen.

    Notes:

    • By enabling "Unknown Sources" you are able to install apps from unknown sources that may be harmful to your phone and personal data. By enabling "Unkown Sources", you agree that you are responsible for any damage to your phone or loss of data that may result from using any of these applications.
    • We recommend disabling "Unknown Sources" once you are finished using the E-Link (Phone Link) feature. We recommend not downloading any applications (except for the Auto Link App) while "Unknown Sources" is enabled. Turn off "Unknown Sources" before downloading any other apps.

Data Plan Required: Your iPhone or Android smartphone will need an active Data Plan account with connection to the Internet via 3G, EDGE, LTE (4G), or WiFi to access online app services when using CarPlay or E-Link (Phone Link). Access to online applications will depend on the availability of a cellular and/or WiFi network for purposes of allowing your iPhone or Android smartphone to connect to the Internet. App services may not be available in all regions.

Smartphone Charging: The Soundstream VRCP-65 will also charge (5V/1A) your Apple CarPlay compatible iPhone or E-Link (Phone Link) compatible Android smartphone while connected via USB with the vehicle's ignition switch set to the 'ACC' or 'On' position.

    Built-in Bluetooth

Bluetooth 4.0: The Soundstream VRCP-65 is equipped with built-in Bluetooth 4.0, allowing you to make and receive phone calls wirelessly through the receiver; as well as stream music wirelessly from your smartphone to the head unit. In order to use Bluetooth wireless technology, your phone must also be Bluetooth compatible and be able to interpret certain profiles. This unit is compatible with the following Bluetooth Profiles:

    • Hands-Free Communication: HFP (Hands Free Profile), PBAB (Phone Book Access Profile).
    • Audio Streaming: A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile), AVRCP (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile).
Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some mobile devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the VRCP-65.

Simple Secure Pairing (SSP): Before using the unit's Bluetooth functions, you must pair your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone or audio device to the VRCP-65. The unit features SSP (Simple Secure Pairing), so you can pair and connect your device without entering a pin-code. Multiple device can be paired to the VRCP-65, but only one can be connected and played back at a time through the receiver. When an already paired Bluetooth device is in close proximity to the receiver, the auto connection function automatically connects the device and receiver.

Hands-Free Communication (w/ External Mic): The VRCP-65 supports Bluetooth hands-free communication from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone. You can answer an incoming call from the head unit's touchscreen and carry on a phone conversation hands-free. The included external microphone carries on your side of the conversation, while your car's speakers are used to hear the other person. You can increase or decrease the unit's Mic Gain between Low, Middle, or High.

    • Answering A Call: During an incoming call, the caller's phone number or assigned contact name will be seen on the unit's LCD and a ring-tone will be heard through your car stereo speakers. You can then manually answer the incoming call from the head unit's touchscreen. You can also set the unit to automatically answer an incoming call within 5 seconds. Any audio playback will be muted during a call. You can even reject an incoming call using the VRCP-65, so the call will revert to your phone's voice mail.
    • Making A Call: You can make a call using the Soundstream in-dash receiver's touchscreen controls. Outgoing calls can be made by entering telephone numbers directly via the head unit's touchscreen keypad. You can also make a call from your phone's transferred phonebook using the multimedia receiver's touchscreen. In addition, you can use the receiver's call log (which consists of dialed numbers, received call, and missed calls - 20 total) to make a call from the VRCP-65's touchscreen.

Wireless Audio Streaming: The Soundstream VRCP-65 allows you to play back stored music, music apps, and other audio content on your Bluetooth enabled smartphone, tablet, or audio player through the multimedia receiver. In addition to basic playback and search functions (such as Play/Pause & Previous/Next Track), you'll be able to browse your Bluetooth source device's music library by category (requires iPhone iOS 5.0+ or Android OS 4.0+). The unit will also display song/artist information (no album art) from a connected Bluetooth audio device.

Note: When an incoming call or outgoing call is in progress from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, audio streaming will be paused so you can take your call. Once the call is finished, your streaming music will resume.

    SiriusXM & AM/FM Radio

SiriusXM-Ready: The Soundstream VRCP-65 is SiriusXM Ready and compatible with the SiriusXM Connect Vehicle Tuner (220SXV300 sold separately). The SiriusXM Connect Vehicle Tuner supports SiriusXM programming with access to 140+ SiriusXM channels via subscription; check out the most popular SiriusXM subscription packages here. Additional features of the SiriusXM Connect tuner include:

    • Channel & Song/Artist Information: A Channel List displays a list of all available channels. Information such as Channel Name w/ Channel Art, Artist Name, and Song Title can be viewed on the head unit's display.

    • Content Search & Presets: The Category Search function searches for channels in a certain category, while the Direct Channel input feature allows you to directly enter a station number using the touchscreen or remote. You can also store up to 18 SiriusXM Satellite Radio station presets for easy access.

    • Artist & Song Alert: While listening to SiriusXM Satellite Radio, user can mark Artists and/or Songs for which you wish to be alerted. The radio will display an Alert message when a matching artist or song is found on another channel. Then you can choose if you want to tune to that favorite or user can ignore the alert and stay on your current channel.

    • Parental Control: Channels containing unsuitable content for children can be blocked with a pass-code.

Note: A separate SiriusXM Satellite Radio subscription is required (operates on the XM Network). However, you can easily add this SiriusXM tuner to an existing Sirius or XM account for a Multi-Radio Discount Plan.

AM/FM Tuner: The Soundstream VRCP-65 is equipped with an AM/FM tuner with manual, seek, and preset tuning. The VRCP-65 lets you store up to 18 FM and 12 AM preset stations for a total of 30 tuner presets. These presets can be stored manually or automatically. The tuner also features selectable North America and European tuning.

    Disc & USB Playback

Disc Compatibility: The Soundstream VRCP-65 has a front-loading disc-slot to make loading your disc easier. The VRCP-65 supports playback of DVD Video, DVD-R/RW, CD-Audio, and CD-R/RW discs. The unit supports playback of a variety of music, movie and photo files recorded onto CD-R/RW and DVD-R/RW and discs.

    • Auto Reload: If the disc is not removed from the disc slot within 10 seconds of being ejected, it will be automatically reloaded to prevent it from being accidentally damaged.
    • Parental Lock: The DVD system has a built-in Parental Lock feature to prevent unauthorized persons from viewing restricted disc content. By default, the rating system is unlocked. You can choose from 8 different levels of Parental Lock. Once setup, the parental lock is released only by entering the user 4-digit password.

USB Port: In addition to support for CarPlay, the unit's USB port (attached to rear-chassis via a 57" cable) can be used to connect a USB MSC (mass storage class) device for playback of a variety of audio, video and photo files. Compatible USB devices include USB thumbdrives and flashdrives (up to 64GB). You'll be able to control music playback and browse music files/folders on your USB device from the receiver's touchscreen. The receiver's touchscreen will also display song/artist information and album art from music files on your connected USB device. In addition, the unit's USB port (rated at 5V/1A) will charge a connected mobile device.

Note: The unit's USB port does not support the connection of Android OS devices. It also does not support connection of non-CarPlay Apple iOS devices.

File Compatibility: The Soundstream VRCP-65 supports the following types of audio, video, and photo files recorded onto a disc or loaded onto a USB mass storage class device.

Media Type Disc (CD-R/RW, DVD-R/RW) Flash (USB MSC)

Key Beep: The multimedia receiver provides an audible beep to confirm button operation (this can be turned On or Off).

    AV Connectivity

AV Input: The Soundstream VRCP-65 is equipped with a rear-panel AV input which consists of a composite video jack and stereo RCA jacks for connecting an external audio/video source.

Video Output: A single RCA composite video-output jack allows you to an add external monitor, such as rear headrest monitor (sold separately). The video output can display a DVD, USB, or an AV-input video signal when its selected as the receiver's source; regardless if the vehicle's parking brake is engaged or not.

Note: CarPlay for iPhone and E-Link for Android cannot be displayed through the receiver's video output.

Camera Input: The Camera Input consists of a Composite video RCA jack for connecting an optional back-up camera (sold separately - see Accessories Tab).  The camera input provides auto switching and park assist lines.

    • Auto Switching: When an optional rearview camera is connected to this unit, the rear view image is displayed on the receiver's screen when your vehicle is placed in reverse gear (pink wire of the harness must be connected to reverse light wire of vehicle). Automatic video switching takes approximately 1.0 second.
    • Park Assist Lines: On-screen park assist lines help you back into a parking space, providing you with horizontal and vertical lines that represent the distance between your vehicle and the objects behind and to the side of it.

    Touchscreen & Remote Control

Touchscreen Monitor: The Soundstream VRCP65 is equipped with a 6.2" capacitive LCD touchscreen. The capacitive LCD touchscreen provides a high contrast ratio, crystal clear display, and vivid text; as well as highly responsive touchscreen operation.

    • Wall Paper: You can choose between 5 preset wallpapers or select a customized image on your inserted USB thumbdrive as the wallpaper.
    • Date & Time: The receiver allows you to set the Date (day/month/year) and Time (hour/minute/format). The Time is visible on each menu and source screen. The Date has to be accessed through the menu.

Variable Color Button Illumination: In addition to touchscreen control, the VRCP-65 has capacitive touch buttons along the left edge of the screen and push-button controls along the top of the screen. The button illumination can be adjusted to Red, Yellow, Blue, Green, or White.

Dimmer: The dimmer function will dim the receiver's display & front-panel illumination automatically when your vehicle's light switch is turned On, if you have the unit's orange "Illumination" wire connected to your vehicle's headlamp circuit. You can also choose to dim or brighten the display manually.

Parking Brake Detection: For safety reasons, you cannot view a video source on the built-in monitor as long as the vehicle is in motion. In order to display video, the brown wire of the included harness must be hardwired into the vehicle's parking brake light circuit, and the vehicle's parking brake must be engaged. Apple CarPlay works without the vehicle's parking brake engaged.

IR Remote The VRCP-65 comes supplied with an IR remote control which provides wireless operation of the multimedia receiver; including Bluetooth hands-free and audio streaming functions, as well as CarPlay and Siri.

Steering Wheel Control Compatible: The VRCP-65 allows you to keep your vehicle's steering wheel controls (if equipped) through the use of an optional steering wheel control interface module (sold separately - see Accessories Tab).

Does this come preloaded with Apple apps or do I need to download them? What dictates the compatibility of apps on this device?
    [ David  May 20, 2019 ]
    2 answers
    A
I think it depends on the apps you have on your phone, and whether they support car-play or not. E.g. right now the only third-party apps I have that work over car-play are google maps, amazon music, and waze. When I first got the head unit waze didn't support car-play, but I have since updated the app on my phone and now it does. You should check with the app's features in the apple-store if it supports car-play or not. If it does, you are in business. If it doesn't, it won't show up on the head unit. This is just how car-play works. Any head unit with car-play will be like this.

In order to use the CarPlay features you have to plug the phone is through the usb with lighting cable. However, you can just Bluetooth connect and still answer calls, stream music and hear notifications.
    [ TROY  Mar 17, 2019 ]
    A
You connect the provided USB cable to the rear port and run the other end that you plug into to a preferred location in your car. Mine is run under my center console and comes up through my storage box/arm rest. you just might have to be a little creative.

It connects via USB man. Btw, as a heads up, I've experienced the head unit crash on me multiple times and I'd have to wait until I parked or something to turn off my truck so that it could reset. I'd say like 6/10 times it'll happen.

Thanks for the answers, guys! It sounds like the steering wheel controls and the rear camera will work. Does anybody know for sure whether or not the passenger mirror-mounted wing camera will work? If it doesn't, that would be a deal breaker for me.
    [ Ted  Nov 17, 2018 ]

I installed this in my car and it does have 2 camera inputs on it but as far steering controls you'll probably need a module for that
    [ Tucker  Nov 16, 2018 ]
    A
When putting this in your cart Crutchfield will automatically show you a fit kit and harnesses for your Honda. Just make sure the one they offer has all the features you are looking for. Most Metra kits are good at including stearing wheel controls and back up camera options. As for the head unit it's self it will support the backup camera. Be careful with this head unit my only dislike of this head unit is the volume control isn't the best user friendly. I wish I would have gotten a head unit with a volume knob. Other than that it's a nice unit!

Did you ever get the SWC to work?

I haven't installed the stereo all the way because I'm having trouble getting the steering wheel controls to work (2014 Subaru Forester, with the Axxess aswc-1). I saw your question today though and did a test run with my aftermarket reverse camera and it works when I throw it in reverse. It doesn't appear that the stereo unit has any parking lines, but my aftermarket reverse camera has them so the lines showed up on the screen. One weird thing that I noticed during my brief test was that when I dropped it in reverse, it automatically stops all your music. When you take it out of reverse, the music starts up again. I also tried talking on the phone then throwing it in reverse and it doesn't drop your call, it keeps going unlike the music. To answer your question though, I guess it would depend on your reverse camera setup; I'm not sure if Silverados have an oem reverse camera and if it needs special wiring but it should work. I'm writing a full review tonight since there's only one review on the unit so far

If I link my phone to this radio for the screen mirroring and control to use Waze, will I be able to listen to SiriusXM, or will I be limited to music that's on the connected phone?

If you're referring to the E-Link w/ Auto Link App feature for Android smartphone mirroring, you would only be able to have audio playing from your phone. I'm afraid you can't select another audio source (such as SiriusXM) while your Android phone is mirrored.
