Features

Add-on Bluetooth receiver: The Harman/Kardon BTA10 external Bluetooth receiver lets you add Bluetooth wireless audio streaming to your existing home entertainment system. Your system simply needs a free auxiliary or audio input. Now you'll be able to wirelessly stream audio from your Bluetooth-enabled device to your home audio system.

Wireless Audio Streaming: The Harman/Kardon BTA10 features Bluetooth A2DP technology, which allows you to wirelessly stream audio from your Bluetooth-enabled device to your home entertainment system. You'll be able to stream stored music and music apps on your Bluetooth-enabled device to your home stereo system. Compatible Bluetooth-enabled devices include Apple iPod/iPhone/iPad, Android smartphone/tablets,Windows PC, Mac computers, and more. You will continue to control your music and view song/artist information from your Bluetooth-enabled device. You can pair up to 8 Bluetooth source devices, but only can be connected and used for playback at a time.

Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the H/K BTA10.

Harman TrueStream Technology: Harman TrueStream is H/K's guarantee that you will experience the best possible listening experience when streaming wirelessly via Bluetooth technology. Because there are many connectivity options when it comes to Bluetooth technology, Harman/Kardon engineers always use the most current and most advanced method. This process ensures the highest quality sound no matter the application or source device.

Analog Audio Output: The Harman/Kardon BTA10 Bluetooth receiver is fitted with a single stereo minijack (3.5mm) output which allows it to connect to your home AV receiver's auxiliary or audio input. A 59" stereo minijack cable and a 59" stereo minijack-to-RCA cable are provided.

AC Power Adapter: The Harman/Kardon BTA10 operates off of standard household current using the supplied external AC power supply (input: 100-240V; output: 5.0V/400mA).

Q
Will this work with Amazon Alexa?
[ Vince  Oct 14, 2020 ]
3 answers
A
This device is not Alexa enabled. It simply allows wireless music playback from Bluetooth-compatible smartphones, tablets, music players, and computers. However, it can be paired to an active listening Alexa device like an echo or echo dot to get audio from the dot into powered speakers or a receiver.
[ Allison  Nov 08, 2020 ]  Staff
A
Have no idea,, do not Remer it or what it does.
[ William Hubbell  Nov 06, 2020 ]
A
Yes it works very good with Alexa on your iPhone or iPadEnter an answer to this question.
[ HEBERT B.  Nov 05, 2020 ]
Q
Will this easily attach to an early 1974 Sansui 771 or 881 stereo receiver?
[ Mike  Oct 14, 2020 ]
3 answers
A
As long as there are RCA/composite left and right inputs
[ Joshua  Oct 14, 2020 ]
A
It should if your receiver has a auxiliary input for RCA connectors. On my last Yamaha receiver I connected it into a RCA dvd input and it worked fine.
[ duane  Oct 14, 2020 ]
A
I purchased this for use with two receivers from the early 90's and it works great! It can be plugged into any input (phono, cd, dvd, tape, etc). It is great to be able to play music or podcasts from your phone! I am not familiar with your receiver, but you should be able to tell from the photos if it has the correct type connector for your receiver.
[ James  Oct 14, 2020 ]
Q
Will this allow me to play music from my sb16 subwoofer without the sound bar?
[ Jrodriguez1997  Sep 15, 2020 ]
3 answers
A
If you are referring to the SVS SB16-Ultra subwoofer, this bluetooth receiver can get the audio from a Bluetooth compatible audio player. The issue with this is you will only hear the bass from the music and nothing else
[ Paul  Sep 30, 2020 ]  Staff
A
Yes because there are separate subwoofer ports.
[ Garry  Sep 30, 2020 ]
A
It should - just plug the RCA output line from the BTA10 to the input of your subwoofer.
[ DAVID  Sep 30, 2020 ]
Q
I see the more expensive BT receivers show "audio quality" ratings, including bit rates and signal-to-noise etc. Are those specs available for this HK?
[ Jeff C  Jul 27, 2020 ]
3 answers
A
Doesn't have great range but works great if you're in the same room. I've never noticed poor sound quality when using. Doesn't have the power to receive around corners or through walls
[ MARK N.  Aug 11, 2020 ]
A
I don't have exact numbers, my HK blue tooth receiver did a good job of sound quality. If you are really looking for super high quality sound don't go blue tooth and don't go with MP3. My biggest gripe with getting a new set of speakers and a new receiver was I realized MP3's were not the greatest sound quality. If you are listening for just background sound MP3's and blue tooth are fine.
[ Joel  Aug 11, 2020 ]
A
I have no idea. All I know is this thing works. You plug it in, open BT on your device and there it is ready to link, which it does immediately, unlike others I've tried that require special processes, ritual dances and what not to get linked. Buy this. It's good.
[ SCOTT  Aug 11, 2020 ]
Q
DOES THIS UNIT HAVE GOOD RANGE? I NEED IT TO WORK 30'/45' FROM TRANSMITTING DEVICE....WHEN WE ARE TAILGATING????
[ PHIL  Jun 13, 2020 ]
3 answers
A
I doubt it will reach that far. I have range issues at about 20 feet.
[ Richard  Jun 14, 2020 ]
A
Seems to have at least the range the customer needs. I use it indoors, and it is able to receive a signal uninterrupted through 3 walls at least 60 feet from the source.
[ Mitchell  Jun 14, 2020 ]
A
I think it may work fine. I use it indoors, on a separate amp for my devices. It can get spotty if I take the transmitting device across the house (through walls). Connection remains at approximately 50 feet. It's the best Bluetooth I've found.
[ JOHN  Jun 14, 2020 ]
Q
Will this adapter allow me to listen to music thru my wireless headphones?
[ Kate W  Jun 08, 2020 ]
3 answers
A
Only if they are linked to the head unit that this product is wired into. This is a Bluetooth receiver that plugs in to your home stereo or audio system via RCA jacks. And will pick up music off your phone like say pandora or what ever you link to it. ????
[ Timothy  Jun 09, 2020 ]
A
This is a wireless receiver, so it takes the bluetooth signal and transmits it into the stereo. It does not broadcast out a wireless signal, so no - I don't think this will work for you.
[ Brandon  Jun 09, 2020 ]
A
unfortunately no...this is a blue tooth device that receives signals from your computer, tablet, phone, etc. it does not transmit a bluetooth signal, so it would be of no use for your application
[ jill  Jun 08, 2020 ]
Q
Can I convert my Onkyo TX SR 705 reciever to blutooth with this product?
[ Chris  Jun 01, 2020 ]
5 answers
A
Yep! Just hook it up to a free "line" input (CD in, Tape In, etc). Set the receiver to the selected input and away you go. Works like a champ.
[ Kevin  Jun 01, 2020 ]
A
Yes you can ??
[ DEREK  Jun 01, 2020 ]
A
Yes. I have this product connected to my Onkyo receiver and a Bluetooth transmitter connected to my laptop. The receiver and the laptop are in different rooms. I am able to hear whatever I dial up on the computer through my home stereo system.
[ JAMES  Jun 01, 2020 ]
A
Ues easy to use bluetooth connection
[ steve  Jun 01, 2020 ]
A
If you have an RCA Jack aux output, then you can use an RCA 2 to 1 splitter and plug it into this device. Select aux as the choice for output. I find the range to be about 12 feet
[ Nanci  Jun 01, 2020 ]
Q
Is it weatherproof? Waterproof?can it be used on outdoor patio
[ Nelson  May 15, 2020 ]
1 answer
A
I use it indoors, plugged into my receiver/amp, and paired with my iPhone. So My setup wouohelp you. However, I would imagine if you had an outdoor audio component in a dry area, you'd be able to plug this into it
[ Nicholas  May 15, 2020 ]
Q
can I play two Bluetooth speakers at the same time?
[ Jackie  Jan 04, 2020 ]
1 answer
A
This connects as a component to your existing stereo as an input, just like you would add a tape deck, turntable or record player. It does not play Bluetooth speakers. It will receive and relay music sent from your phone using Bluetooth technology for the connection to your phone for example. I loaded up my father-in-law's iPad with all his music and now he can play it on his stereo system. It works great! Bob
[ boberuddy  Jan 04, 2020 ]
Q
Can this be hooked up to a smart tv making it a transmitter to listen to tv with wireless headphones?
[ Jennnifer  Sep 16, 2019 ]
1 answer
A
Hi Jennifer, thank you for your question. The Harman Kardon Bluetooth adapter will not be able to transmit audio to a set of wireless headphones. We do carry wireless headphones that include a transmitter, that are designed to work in the manner you are hoping for, however. Please chat with an Advisor online, or by phone at 1-800-324-9695. We will be happy to help you out.

Q
I would like to use a device that will pair with my Apple TV 4K and extract the audio to my analog receiver , so I can continue to use my Sennheiser RF headphones that are connected to my receiver. Will the HK BTA do this?
[ Joel  Sep 12, 2019 ]
1 answer
A
I pair my apple Ipod to this HK BTA which is hooked to my receiver. So if Your device is blue tooth capable it should work. Once the audio hits the tuner it would work like any other input.
[ Robert  Sep 13, 2019 ]
Q
Will the HK BTA work using my Proton AI-3000II ? It has no auxiliary RCA jack.
[ Larry  Aug 12, 2019 ]
2 answers
A
The design, as far as I can tell, is to use it with an Aux input into the pre-amp or receiver.
[ Jeffrey  Aug 20, 2019 ]
A
Yes, the HK BTA comes with a 3.5mm to RCA adapter in the box. It will plug into one of the available RCA inputs on the back of your Proton AI-3000II amp.

My 2011 MacBook Air has Bluetooth but won't detect H/K BTA10. The BTA10 works great with iPhone XS and iPad. Anyone know if it's possible with the 2011 MB Air's BT?
[ John  Aug 04, 2019 ]

Q
Older Bose wave music system III. Will this make my Bose Bluetooth ready for my 2 wirelessly speakers so i can play radio and /or cd's ?
[ Joe  Jul 08, 2019 ]
4 answers
A
Hi Joe! This adapter would work for you if you were looking to stream audio from a Bluetooth capable device, to your Bose Wave III. This adapter will not allow you to transmit CD or radio being played from the Bose Wave system, to a set of wireless speakers. Chat with an Advisor online, or get in touch by phone at 1-800-324-9695. They will be happy to check out your existing gear, and give you some options to get things up and running for you.
[ Jess  Jul 16, 2019 ]  Staff
A
I believe the BTA-10 is a Bluetooth receiver only so you can play amazon or apply music from you phone etc through an older none Bluetooth receiver/integrated amp.
[ DOUGLAS  Jul 16, 2019 ]
A
If it has the red and white rca type auxiliary inputs it will.
[ Christopher  Jul 16, 2019 ]
A
I have no idea on how the Bose systems work. I have this hooked to the audio 2 on my amp thru the old style red/white audio jacks. Works like a champ as long as you're device isn't to far away.

Will this work for an older Harman Kardon Go Portable Speaker, without Bluetooth, to add bluetooth to it?
[ Bryan  Jun 25, 2019 ]

A
Yes
[ john  Jul 06, 2019 ]
A
I don't know. I paired this HK Universal Bluetooth wireless with a iPod & Yamaha Audio/Visual receiver
[ Abdiel  Jun 29, 2019 ]
A
If the Portable Go has a RCA input Jack it will be compatible.
[ JERRY  Jun 26, 2019 ]
A
It's just a source for your amplification If your speaker has an amplifier and an RCA input connector to the amp, it should work.
[ Sherlock  Jun 25, 2019 ]
Q
I'm looking for a device like this that will NOT aggressively reconnect with a previously paired source, unless I tell the source to reconnect. Does this do that? (Reason is, I'll use it to connect stereo system to an Alexa Echo Dot to stream audio. But when stereo system is not powered, I don't want the Dot to connect to it. So that I can, for example, ask what the weather is, and hear the response)
[ Dave  May 19, 2019 ]
2 answers
A
no buy something else
[ Stephanie  Jun 03, 2019 ]
A
Cannot specifically answer your question but I have used Alexa with an Audioengine B1 (a fine piece of tech) and found Alexa to be a bit over aggressive in making and keeping a connection. Eventually opted to take Alexa out of the equation. So, not sure if the problem is with the HP adapter or Alexa. Good luck!

Q
Can I connect to this from a bluetooth enabled windows 10 pc? I tried and the pc doesn't see it (it's on and connects fine to other bluetooth devices) and this device paired fine with an iphone
[ marc  May 13, 2019 ]
5 answers
A
I can connect to it with my Bluetooth enabled laptop running windows 10 with no problem.
[ david  Jun 28, 2019 ]
A
I'm not sure about connecting it to a PC but I have found that my phone needs to be within a few feet of the HK device. If it gets more than than 20 feet away the signal gets very weak and doesn't work well.
[ Tom  May 14, 2019 ]
A
My pc connects fine.
[ Michael  May 14, 2019 ]
A
Yes. I have a bluetooth enabled Dell PC and it connects as soon as I plug it in to an outlet. I have it on a little desk next to the computer.
[ William  May 13, 2019 ]
A
Hello. I use it for my entertainment system. I connect my tablet and phones to it with no problem. I have not tried connecting it with a PC or laptop.
[ HENRY  May 13, 2019 ]
Q
Can I connect it to an old tube radio? I'd like to use it as both an old radio and would like to stream music from my phone.
[ Kimberly  May 08, 2019 ]
2 answers
A
This device connects to a receiver utilizing RCA jack connections, if your tube radio does not have RCA inputs, which I don't think any radios of that era did it will not work.
[ JERRY  May 15, 2019 ]
A
I am not an expert, but probably not. Unless it has RCA Jacks on the back. I have mine connected to a stereo receiver, and connect to it with my phone. Works really well in this application. You can ask someone at Crutchfield. Thank you
[ Brian  May 15, 2019 ]
Q
Does it turn off? Does it always connect to your Bluetooth device?
[ Jerry  Apr 21, 2019 ]
5 answers
A
It really doesn't turn off in the traditional sense of an on/off switch. When it is disconnected from a Bluetooth source, it is off. The only time it will connect to your Bluetooth device is when you pair it with this adapter.
[ Coby  Apr 22, 2019 ]
A
Jerry, it comes on once you connect your device using the device menu. I haven't had any problems at all connecting my devices and it works great.
[ Joe  Apr 21, 2019 ]
A
The answer to both is yes. Good product.
[ Bobby Joe  Apr 21, 2019 ]
A
I would say that it is always on, as it is powered by a wall supply. It is always accessible when we choose to use it. Good product. Have had it for several years now with no issue.
[ John  Apr 21, 2019 ]
A
I assume that it turns off after you disconnect the device that you paired to it (blue light will go out). However, this doesn't mean that it's not still searching for a device to connect with. I've not had any issues with connecting from the HK BTA 10. Moto X phone would connect automatically when I turn on its bluetooth (if in range). Using a Samsung, I have to select it to connect.
[ Matthew  Apr 21, 2019 ]
Q
Will this work with an I-phone 6?
[ Roger  Apr 10, 2019 ]

I've used both a Ipad Mini and my Iphone 5SE and had not problem connecting with Harman Kardon BTA. A friend of mine used his Android phone to stream music. It work fine. I don't think you should have a problem connecting a Iphone 6 to the HK.
[ ERNEST  Apr 12, 2019 ]
A
Yes. It works well with my iPhone 6
[ Stephen  Apr 11, 2019 ]

Q
Will this work from a tv to blue tooth hearing aids?
[ Bigguy  Dec 03, 2018 ]
1 answer
A
I'm thinking no. Your Bluetooth device such as an iPhone sends a signal to this. The BTA 10 has to be plugged into the stereo that will then create the sound from the signal you are sending.
[ Tim  Dec 12, 2018 ]
Q
Will this work with a portable turntable?
[ Sandy  Nov 01, 2018 ]
2 answers
A
not sure how you are setting up.
[ Stephen  Nov 05, 2018 ]
A
I'm not sure as I don't have a portable turntable. But, if you are currently able to plug in an iPod or iPhone to play through your turntable, then this will most likely work. I hope that helps.

Q
Will this make my Bose Wave wireless and play several Bose wireless speakers at once?

Q
Will this plug in to the pc audio jack and will I be able to listen through my wireless headphones?
[ Nightshade  Oct 12, 2018 ]
3 answers
A
No...this is a Bluetooth receiver. It cannot send a signal out to anything.
[ TIMOTHY L  Oct 14, 2018 ]
A
I'm not sure it works that way. I've only used it to stream audio from my phone to a receiver. I'd recommend searching the manufacturers website. It worked great for my purpose.
[ Michael  Oct 13, 2018 ]
A
If you can listen to music through your headphones now, I don't see why it wouldn't work. You're going to need a small audio cable, don't remember if it comes with one. It does come with a cable with din plugs which is what I use to hook it up to my home stereo. Hope this helps.

A
I have no idea
[ Mchael  Aug 29, 2018 ]
A
It should in theory. It's designed for home use but if you can modify the power supply, pairing it with various Bluetooth devices is a snap.

Q
Is this a bluetooth transceiver? If so, can it transmit the fm radio frequency? Thanks Paul
[ Norma  Aug 21, 2018 ]

A
This unit is slmply a Bluetooth receiver that will pick up a signal from your phone or iPod and play music through whatever you connect plot to
[ JAMES D.  Aug 24, 2018 ]
A
I don't think so. It receives Bluetooth signals from your devices and plays them through your stereo like a turntable or tape deck would.
[ TIMOTHY L  Aug 22, 2018 ]
A
It's a receiver. Not a transmitter.

Is the 33 feet range how far my phone can be from the adapter?
[ Douglas  Aug 15, 2018 ]

[ Timothy  Aug 15, 2018 ]
A

Does this stay on all the time even when a device isn't connected to it?
[ Strickland412  Aug 08, 2018 ]

A
When you go into the settings on your phone, under Bluetooth you'll be given the option to disconnect or forget this device. Once you click disconnect, the device will shut down. I have it's power source connected to the switched plug in the back of my receiver.
[ Tim  Aug 08, 2018 ]
A
No it goes off eventually on its own.

Q
How to connect to my onkyo stereo system which is not equipped with Bluetooth technology?
[ Chris  Jul 22, 2018 ]
7 answers
A
You plug it in to an available RCA input jack on your receiver and a 110v. Easy peasy, works like a charm.
[ Mike  Aug 01, 2018 ]
A
Hi Chris, I purchase an HK Bta-10 and you treat it just as if it were a CD player and hook it up to RCA inputs. Then you Bluetooth phone will seek out making the connection so you can stream music. You control the volume at the stereo or the phone. You may have to go to the Bluetooth connection on your phone after you begin the streaming to initiate the phone to look for the signal from the HK.
[ Steven  Jul 22, 2018 ]
A
The Harmon Kardon BTA is made for older units without Bluetooth capabilities. It is extremely easy to hook up. You simply plug in the supplied cords to an unused output on your receiver and plug in a power cord. I actually use on an older Onkyo receiver myself. Definitely worth the money as opposed to buying a new receiver.
[ JAMES D.  Jul 22, 2018 ]

I'm going to give it a shot, I agree it won't work in a vehicle out of the box, but the power specs and plug are standard mini USB for which I have a USB to mini USB cable which will give the 5v and .4 amps it needs to run. Will report back. Got tired of having my old car bluetooth adapter not be charged when I wanted it.

I have purchased 2 units and they work extremely well, but inside my home. They are plugged in to standard 110 volt AC electrical outlets. So you would need to have 110 volt AC converter in your car - don't believe the unit works on 12 volt found in most cars.

This will show up in your Bluetooth settings on your iOS device or your MacBook or iMac. Once connected it will appear in your airplay settings as an option. [ VICTOR R  Apr 09, 2018 ]
A
BSmart, I'm not quite sure that I understand your intent with this device, however, I can tell you how I use the HK BTA-10. The device allows my stereo receiver to be controlled (volume, track, playlist, etc) with my smart phone. It connects to my receiver via a red & white RCA type jack into the AUX inputs on the back of the receiver. I would imagine that it could be connected to any of the other unused functions as well. There is also a separate cable and adapter for power. None of the connections for this device connect to the headphone jack in my application. In respect to your speaker question, I don't think that type of application is the intent of this device. Further, your smart-TV most likely is already Bluetooth enabled, allowing you to listen via your favorite headphones with a wireless connection. Hopefully my comments have given you some insight into this product. Good Luck, JD

I have purchased two of these units and have been well served by them. I use them in each location to take a blue tooth audio signal into (separate) stereo receivers. The signal sources in respective locations are a Windows desktop computer (upstairs) and a Macbook Pro laptop downstairs. The unit stands alone but has a power cord with a small transformer, receives AC and operates on DC from the transformer. Cables are provided with the unit. The audio out to the receivers is a ministereo jack at the unit and RCA left and right for the receiver end, probably six feet, perhaps a bit less. In each location, I decided in favor of the HK BTA-10 and against higher fidelity speakers for each computer, reasoning that I had already invested in good speaker quality for each receiver. Upstairs, all computer generated audio is heard through my bookshelf speakers; downstairs, likewise, all audio from the laptop goes through our Polk Audio floor-standing speakers. Do pay attention to the proximity of the device to the blue tooth source (closer is better), and do make sure your source, if a computer, is capable of generating a bluetooth signal. My Macbook came with bluetooth installed, but with the older PC I had to obtain a USB plug in, but both of the HK units work well, and deliver stereo input to the receiver.

Not speakers. H/K BTA-10 might help your old Onkyo with Bluetooth devices.
[ Juan  Oct 09, 2017 ]
A
Not sure of your exact set up but the harmon kardon will work through your old onkyo amp as long as you have rca inputs on the back of it. I then assume this onkyo amp is hooked up to speakers throughout your house which I assumed are connected by wires to the onkyo since you said it was old. This would then allow you to play music via Bluetooth from your phone or like device through the onkyo into the speakers. Hope this answers your question - thanks.

[ JAMES  Sep 15, 2017 ]

I don't know if I can answer your question, but I have two of these devices, one for upstairs and one for downstairs, respectively, stereo receivers. Downstairs we connect to a Yamaha receiver I've had for years, getting true stereo for streamed music, radio and video from the (Apple laptop) computer. Upstairs, I equipped a a Windows PC desktop with a $25 blue tooth adapter as that computer did not otherwise send a bluetooth signal, again using the HK blue tooth to take a stereo signal into a Panasonic receiver. Both the HK units have worked well, and as long as you are not pushing them to the end of their range of distance from the blue tooth signal source (not more than thirty feet), the HK units do just fine. I don't know if less expensive units from other makers were available when I purchased (about six months apart), but the units have worked without a hitch and the sound quality is very good to excellent.

[ Pete  Jul 18, 2017 ]
A
My HK BTA receives wireless signals from a Bluetooth device and sends the signals out via cable to an "audio in" jack of my audio system, which sends them out the "audio out" jack through wires to speakers. HK BTA does not appear capable of changing a signal from a projector "audio out" jack into a wireless transmission to the Echo, which is what your application requires. Maybe Crutchfield has something for that.
[ mary  Jul 17, 2017 ]
A
That scenario sounds like it would be opposite use of this product, it is designed to give you a Bluetooth input for non equipped stereos, you need a Bluetooth transmitter, this is a receiver.
[ ROCCO`S AUTO  Jul 17, 2017 ]
A
I am not certain how you are setting this up but you will need an audio in jack for the BTA 10 to connect and act as the Bluetooth for the non-Bluetooth unit. So if the echo doesn't have the audio in connection the BTA 10 is not going to work.

[ JAMES  Feb 07, 2017 ]

I have had good success with the BTA 10, which I use to play music and internet streaming radio from my ipad into my bedroom receiver/speakers. The distance is probably just about 20 feet from ipad to the BTA 10, possibly a couple of feet less, and the volume level is compatible, although perhaps just a tad less than, what I get with the same receiver volume set when I play the receiver's radio or a cd player. I also have lots of "headroom" to increase the receiver's volume setting, but for my purposes, so far, haven't yet needed to do that. Only quirk I've noticed is that when I back up the ipad, I have to re-pair the BTA 10 with the ipad, and on two occasions, I've had to unplug and replug in the BTA to enable the pairing to occur. Other than that quirk, I've been well satisfied with the unit, and just ordered a second one for my downstairs receiver/speakers, so I can play music and stream radio and online video to the downstairs speakers from a dedicated mac laptop, allowing me to dispense with a wire connection from the laptop to the auxiliary input on the receiver. I hope that is helpful to your decision making.

I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: This won't work to send out a signal to wireless speakers. This is meant to turn an older receiver (with RCA inputs) in to a bluetooth capable device so you can stream audio to it from your tablet or smart phone. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.
