About the PAC LPA-2.2 LocPro Advanced

Buck Pomerantz

Hook into your car's factory system

One of the best ways to add an amplifier or powered subwoofer to a factory system is with a line output converter (LOC), which reduces the factory system's high-level outputs down to the preamp-level signals your aftermarket amp can handle. PAC's LPA-2.2 LocPro Advanced line output converter will work with just about any factory system, even amplified premium systems, to help you add an aftermarket amplifier in your vehicle.

Features for adding a sub

The LPA-2.2 active line output converter lets you add an amp without affecting the existing factory system — you just tap into the wires going to a pair of full-range speakers for the LPA-2.2's inputs. Selectable load resistance and ground isolation options ensure trouble-free OEM integration. A gain control with a clip light adjusts the signal level for optimum strength and fidelity. A low-pass filter and bass boost fine-tune the bass to sound its best. An optional wired remote is available, so you can control the bass level from your front seat.

Boosting two channels

The 2-channel LPA-2.2 can also be used when adding a 2-channel amp to upgrade the power of your sound system's front stage, for example. PAC offers vehicle-specific T-harnesses that'll greatly simplify installing this LOC in a select number of vehicles with non-amplified factory stereos.

Features

Overview: The LPA-2.2 is an active 2-channel line output converter designed for adding an aftermarket amplifier to a factory radio. There is one pair of speaker level inputs, compatible with most factory stereo systems, that will accommodate up 40 volts per channel (equivalent to 400 watts at 4Ω) and one pair of stereo RCA outputs.

Connections:

  • Power: removable 4-pin Phoenix terminal; accommodates bare wire up to 12-gauge
    • +12 volts: fused constant +12 volt source (neither a fuse nor a fuse holder is included)
    • Ground: chassis ground
    • Remote In: unit turns on when +12 volts is applied to this terminal
    • Remote Out: +12 volt output when unit is on (used to turn on an amp)
  • Speaker Level Inputs: removable 4-pin Phoenix terminal; accommodates bare wire up to 12-gauge
  • Line Outputs: one pair of stereo RCA jacks
  • Remote: RJ-14 jack for an optional wired remote control; item number 541LPAREM (sold separately)

Clip Indicator: An LED indicates when the output signal is too high and is clipping, making it easy to maximize the output levels without distortion.

Controls:

  • Load Select: 3-position switch; 20Ω, 60Ω, or 20kΩ; use the lower settings to simulate a speaker load if required by the factory radio
  • Low Pass Filter: 2-position switch; on/off; a 250 Hz low pass filter can be engaged
  • Bass Boost: rotary dial; 0-12 dB; when the low pass filter is engaged, bass boost can be added; centered at 45 Hz
  • Gain: rotary dial; -27.3 to +3.2 dB range
  • Ground Isolation: 3-position jumper; Ground, ISO (isolated), or 200Ω; change the position in the case of ground loop noise

Specifications:

  • Maximum Input Voltage: 40 volts/400 watts at 4Ω (using the 20kΩ input impedance)
  • Maximum Output Voltage: 9.5 volts RMS
  • DC Offset Range: 3-7 volts
  • Input Load: 20Ω, 60Ω, or 20kΩ
  • Output Impedance: <120Ω
  • Output Gain: -28 dB to +1 dB

Q
I have a 5 channel amp and need the harness and a loc for the subwoofer. 2021 Jeep wrangler rubicon. What items do i need to purchase?
[ ANTONIO  Feb 11, 2023 ]

A
Great question, Antonio. If you are using this 2-channel converter you can also use the PAC LPHCH41 LocPro advanced T-harness in the link below. This harness also works well with 4-channel LOC's and can be split with RCA y-adapters if you need all 6 inputs on your amplifier for subwoofer functionality. If you want all 6-channels covered and a little more tuning capability you can also consider the PAC AmpPRO AP4-CH41 amplifier interface in the second link below. This would keep your fade front to rear and also give you bass knob control of the subwoofer. You have some great options! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_541LPHCH41/PAC-LPHCH41-LocPro-Advanced-T-Harness.html https://www.crutchfield.com/p_541AP4CH41/PAC-AmpPRO-AP4-CH41-Aftermarket-Amplifier-Interface.html

Q
I hooked a pac LPA 2.2 converter up to my kicker amp. When I cut the car off minutes later it cuts off but my subwoofer makes a loud noise. How do I stop that?
[ Blaine  Jun 05, 2022 ]
1 answer
A
It may be necessary to change the installation of the device to make it trigger on/off from a wire instead of detecting signal to prevent it and the amp from being on after the vehicle is turned off. We recommend contacting technical support for help changing to this trigger method. If you purchased it from us, we recommend contacting our technical support for this help using their toll free phone number included on the order invoice.

Q
Do I need this for my factory unit or a Digital signal processor or can I use both?
[ Will35  May 31, 2022 ]
1 answer
A
This unit is to get a line level signal from a speaker level output from a factory ( or aftermarket system, technically) to send to an amplifier or digital signal processor.
