My first time doing a car stereo install and for the most part it was plug an play -- I only wish that there was more info on the reverse camera detection wire and that I needed to tap into. I spent time searching for the right harness and counting pins - I had to search for BCM diagrams and service manuals on how to even access it. Image added for anyone else trying to install on cx9. Get one red positap for the reverse detection wire.

2012 Mazda 3
Works well. I used it to fix the improper installation from the "Superlative" electronics store. Turns out they didn't even retain the Bose system. This did. The instructions could be much better. There are not that many brands of stereo that they can't do a better instruction/video for each combination of PAC adapter. Crutchfield Support was extremely helpful.
Pros: Once you get the wire combinations sorted, the installation is straightforward.
Cons: Getting the wire combinations straight from the given instructions is impossible without help.

Not "plug and play" for my CX-7
Luke from San Francisco, CA on 6/26/2022
2007 Mazda CX-7
Wiring interface really didn't simplify things too much. I needed several RMAs to get one that would work and in the end, some important functions (setting LCD clock on auto dash, fader control on tuner) would not work at all with my selected tuner - this was not made clear at the time of purchase. Also, the installation instructions could have been clearer - instead of referring to the actual connectors on the interface, the instructions referred to the wires by color - that would have been more appropriate if I had been doing the wiring myself.

Bradley from Simpsonville, SC on 5/24/2022
2015 Mazda CX-9
Works well but the default setting for the phone is wrong. I will need to reprogram to get the hang up button on the steering wheel to hang the phone up and not play music. This one doesn't make sense to me for the Kenwood systems. Other then that it works well and the instructions were pretty good. Could be a little clearer.
Pros: Everything does work.
Cons: Instructions could be a little better and the default buttons should match the steering wheel better.

Crutchfield customer from Post Falls, ID on 1/3/2022
2012 Mazda CX-9
One of the things I was most worried about when replacing our 2012 Mazda CX-9 factory radio was making sure that everything worked.. From steering wheel controls, to the mazda fuel economy info display, to backup camera, etc. This interface module seemingly does everything and it just plain worked. It's a lot of wires and you need to take your time making sure you have all of them correctly interconnected. The instructions have various notes in differnet places for different models/years. Make sure to completely read the entire instructions before starting anything. Highlight any notes specific to your vehicle, otherwise you might get confused in the middle of it.
Pros: Does everything we expected. Connected directly to the mazda harness Steering wheel controls work as expected Backup camera works as expected Radio has vehicle speed, reverse, and parking brake info. Worked just fine with the Mazda factory Bose audio.
Cons: I do wish that the programming button on the unit could be wired remotely. We would like to change a few things with the steering wheel controls now that we've had the system installed a few days and the only way to do that is to open up the dash and remove the headunit again to access that button. If it was on a wire that could be routed to a glove box or something it would make it easier to reprogram the interface unit after install.

Works great on my wife's 2014 Mazda CX-5. I installed an aftermarket Boss head unit and this interface was required to keep her factory steering wheel controls and factory camera. I did have to reprogram the unit from the default settings but once you read the directions it is straightforward. For my wife's car we programmed the volume +, -, radio preset +,-, and then had to skip the mute and track buttons in order to follow the sequence and then program the answer call, end call and finally the voice command/siri button. Works great as if from factory and she's thrilled. This did not affect the steering wheel controls for the car's info display.
Pros: Works as advertised to keep factory steering wheel controls.
Cons: Not really a con but required quick reprogram of default settings.

When trying to program new functionality with my new Boss radio I can't seem to get certain buttons programmed to be anything other than their default when this unit is reset. Use this on my 2015 Mazda CX-5 GT w/ Bose. Worked perfectly. One thing to note, the voice command SW button was programmed as 'sound attenuation' I had to use the SW programming menu in my Sony XAV-AV5600 to set it up for voice command to summon Siri and Google assistant. Response is instant. I purchased the pre-wire harness option from Crutchfield this made the install super easy.
Pros: Instant response.
Cons: Dependent on stereo capability to program SW voice button.

Opted for this interface to use my steering wheel controls. Works great! The only thing that I wish was integrated, is the dash clock. Installed in a 2014 Mazda CX5 GT with Bose. I replaced the original head unit with a JVC KW-M750BT head unit but wanted to retain the Bose speakers, amp and steering wheel controls. This wiring harness and RP4 box fit the bill. The RCA cables were especially helpful as I was able to just plug them into the pre-out rca ports on the JVC unit. A few of the directions for my car were a bit ambiguous, but after a quick call to Crutchfield's excellent support, I got the answers I needed. I followed the rest of the directions and the radio works great with the Bose system. The default SWC options for JVC were not to my liking, so I had to program the RP4. This took a few attempts as you have to be precise with pressing the buttons in a timely manner while also keeping track of where you are on the setup list. I ultimately had to memorize what buttons to hit in what order so I could do it with in the time frame required. After 3 or 4 attempts, I finally got the configuration I wanted. Sound and track skip buttons assigned correctly, the phone answer / hang up/decline call buttons working correctly and I got the voice button to mute sound with a quick press of the button. I also programmed the voice button to activate Siri voice recognition upon holding the button in. The only thing that I didn't get was having the phone function open up on the head unit when pressing the phone answer button, but I don't think that is a supported feature of the JVC head unit. Not the RP4's fault.

Great Add-On Item to Retain Steering Wheel Controls

Great steering wheel interface, super easy to install
Jason from Montclair, CA on 9/5/2020
2009 Mazda 3
I just got through installing this with a brand new Pioneer DMH-1500NEX in my 2009 Mazda 3. I replaced an older Alpine head unit and had a PAC SWI-JACK interface. This newer interface is so much easier to install as I don't have to splice any additional wires. It just connects to wires on the new head unit harness which makes installation a BREEZE. The harness did have 1 wire that the instructions didn't mention and I contacted Crutchfield about. They informed me that the wire wouldn't be used, which is what I assumed. Needless to say, this is a great product that just works.
Pros: 1. incredibly easy to install 2. no need to splice wires. 3. just works. 4. additional info now displays in the car display, although not all of it is useful
Cons: 1 wire (green/white) is not used in my case, and instructions made no reference to this wire.

2008 Mazda 3
Unlike the previous (11-year-old) wiring interface I had (with 11-year-old head unit), this one shows more stuff on the LCD display in my 2008 Mazda3. It shows the time, which never exactly matches the clock on the head unit (the latter is synched over the FM radio signal while the car's display slowly goes out of synch). It shows the temperature, which the previous one did also. There is also text saying "Audio", I don't have any idea why and it isn't helpful. That text can be manually edited. Anyway, the head unit works fine through this interface. I also paid for Crutchfield's service to wire all the connectors together, which was not perfect but a big time saver.

Works as advertised and simple to install
Crutchfield customer from New City, NY on 7/5/2020
2008 Mazda 3
This review is specific to my 2008 Mazda 3. The bundled instructions were very clear, per the usual Crutchfield standards, which made it very simple to wire up the interface to the replacement head unit, get the factory unit out and get the new one in. After that, it was a simple matter of plugging everything in together. Everything worked the first time I turned the car key on: sound to all speakers and, more importantly, with my steering wheel controls which was the primary goal in purchasing this in the first place. So 5 stars for both the product and Crutchfield's instructions. Oh, and another plus: chose the free standard shipping option and got it delivered in 2 days anyway.
Pros: 1. Just worked out of the gate 2. Simple to wire up and configure (selector to the brand of my replacement head unit) 3. Simple to install (the connectors plugged right in to the factory wiring harness)
Cons: The price is a little steep for such a simple device but the cheapest I could find for it anywhere else was within $5 and it wouldn't have come with the peace of mind that Crutchfield's instructions and vaunted support gives me. Trust me, the instructions help to avoid mistakes and, if something does go wrong, being able to talk to someone knowledgeable on the phone is worth way more than a $5 difference.

PAC RP4 looks complicated but is basically Plug N Play!
Mathew from Lockbourne, Ohio on 12/26/2019
2012 Mazda CX-9
2012 Mazda CX9 with Bose, Nav - Replaced with Kenwood DDX396, Backup Camera Harness and this PAC RP4 MZ11. All pre-wired by Crutchfield. I was a little worried when I opened the box up and saw so many wires. Crutchfield did an excellent job at connecting all the harnesses together and made everything look real nice and compact. Having Crutchfield wire all the harnesses together made this install super easy and trouble free. I was also worried about this PAC RP4 MZ11 because I have never used one before. This is pretty much required with my vehicle having the Bose and steering wheel controls, it was required to have this installed the right way. I was also worried that i would have to program the PAC RP4 but it came pre programmed. I only had one problem with my install. I hooked everything up and my new Kenwood powered on, DVD's worked, spotify worked, Pandora worked. The only problem I had was NO SOUND. After looking at the diagram and doing some reading, I realized the RCA's coming from the PAC RP4 needed to be plugged into the Pre-Outs on my Kenwood. The directions do not specify this. Also, when accessing the on screen display settings you have to hold down the MODE button for 8 seconds and then to access different settings you have to hit the SEEK button up or down. Otherwise, another great job by Crutchfield!
Pros: Plug N Play Pre wired by Crutchfield techs makes this install a breeze! Very happy with my install! Steering Wheel controls all work!
Cons: Looks complicated but it really is not. Directions do not specify where to put RCA's

2008 Mazda 3
I used this wiring harness to connect a Pioneer 1500NEX to my 2008 Mazda 3 plugs. I can confirm it does work with my steering wheel controls. It did plug right in and work right away. I did have a question about the reverse camera wire and the included instructions weren't overly clear on that so I had to google it. If the instructions were better I'd give it 5 stars for sure. Right now I'd say its 4.5 stars. I'd get this again in a heartbeat if I had to do it over again.
Pros: Plugged right in! Worked!
Cons: Instructions could be better

Getting Carplay for a 2015 Mazda CX-5
Crutchfield customer from Beaverton, OR on 9/16/2019
2015 Mazda CX-5
The wiring interface did all that was needed to interface the Sony receiver which could access Apple car play right out of the box to the Mazda provided interface which didn't support any direct upgrade to carplay
Pros: The technical support is outstanding. I also got a big assist from customer service who cleared up some confusion i had created by shipping my order to mail receiver ahead of my visit to family in the USVI. The wiring interface came with all that was needed to install the Sony where the original Mazda audio/visual interface had been
Cons: The written schedule be better. If you don't have much experience swapping components you should expect to need to call tech support. But that's not going to mean waiting on hold, being passed around or getting frustrated. I called four times, got four different techs and was totally satisfied each time. Why 4 calls? Because there is no overarching guide. The interface works for lots of models and configuration of existing systems and for lots of new ones. I needed support at different stages.

Adapter is fantastic! Ive never used anything except for PAC Audio for interfaces and adapters when integrating factory options and they have never let me down!! The RCA plugs through my for a bit of a loop, I can only assume they are meant to allow for interfacing with a unit that has the Bose Factory Amp/Audio option (my 6 came with standard audio). It was a little bit annoying having to cut them off and solder to straight wires, since if there is an issue or the adapter is faulty one would think this technically falls under altering / modifying the product other than as intended. Aside from the RCA issue the adapter works as intended and works beautifully. It has a dial that you use to select your specific brand of head unit and the module does the rest for you. There is nothing to program unless you want to program additional button presses into long vs short presses, which the unit does support. Plenty of length of cable to allow for tucking the device out of the way makes for installing a larger unit much easier. I always add an additional 8-10 inches of wire to each lead anyway so I can secure the adapter / module elsewhere and just have a Tessa taped harness plug instead of a bundle of wires and plugs.
Pros: Works as described and works very well!
Cons: - Modules detection of button presses are a little bit off from factory head unit. Sometimes pressing the volume up quickly and in a manner recognized by the factory unit wont work on this. Just have to practice and get used to it. - RCAs were a bit confusing. NOTE - I tried to hook them up to the headunit RCA outs to power speakers, DOES NOT WORK. They must be cut off and wired to the speaker lead wires on the aftermarket adapter. - Instructions didnt address this.

Amazing! Everything works. But as always there is room for improvement. I use it with a Sony unit. This adapter is already programed. The only thing to do is to rotate a selector to match the brand of your radio. ... or is it? The instructions need serious work! The user of all sorts of acronyms is frustrating. There is a way to reprogram this unit to be able to use long press for secondary functions. No matter what I've tried the instructions failed me.
Pros: Works great Mazda harness provided, so you don't have to cut the factory harness and week through identifying which wire is what
Cons: Bad instructions Programing as expected according to the instructions.

Works beautifully. A couple of caveats: You will no longer be able to adjust the clock on the center dash as that function is controlled by the stock radio. If you plug in the illumination cable, the backlight on the speedometer / tach gauges will be very dim if your headlights are on. This is a problem if you leave the headlights on during daytime driving. I'm planning to disassemble and disconnect that cable when I have some time.

PROS: 1. The RP4-MZ11 is a plug and play for almost all Mazda devices. My CX-5's steering wheel controls (SWC) worked with the aftermarket stereo like a charm. 2. The stereo wires come with RCA connectors and therefore need less soldering/connecting etc. 3. The difference between other SWC adapters and the PAC is that the orange OEM connector that comes in the package has the reverse wire pre-installed for the back up camera. The Metra connector, if bought separately may or may not come with this pin and wire (I bought a different and cheaper SWC first and tried to install it with the separate Metra connector; had to put in the reverse pin and wire myself after searching the internet). You will still need the 12V to 6V converter for the back up camera. CONS (I am picky!): 1. The wires are not marked/tagged; you will need to refer to the installation sheet (there are specific instructions on which wire needs to be connected for specific vehicles) 2. Some of the wires are too short if you are soldering them

Some information for people installing in the future
Anthony from Harford County, MD on 10/10/2018
2013 Chevrolet Cruze
1. There are two orange and white wires on the RP4-MZ11. These are used if your head unit supports changes in illumination from the vehicle (dimming the head unit when the headlights come on). Unless you have a Mazda CX5, you want to use the orange / white wire running directly to the vehicle connector (the one originating from the orange plug). If you have the CX5, use the orange/white wire from the interface connector (black plug). 2. If you're wiring directly to the new radio harness, you'll probably need to cut the RCA jacks off of the RP4-MZ11 and strip / attach directly to the radio harness. That's not mentioned in the instructions. 3. Make sure you confirm the correct colors before assuming the head unit manufacturer and the RP4-MZ11 are following the same standard. On my application, the parking brake wire (green on pioneer, red/white on the RP4-MZ11) and reverse gear wire were different colors. I triple checked that before completing the wiring. I confirmed all of this with Crutchfield tech support before completing the job. Other than those hiccups, this is the harness you want to retain the most functionally in your Mazda when using an aftermarket head unit.
Pros:
Cons: Instructions could definitely be clearer.

This product is amazing, no need to program the unit or what so ever. It is kind of a plug and play thing, very very convenient. Unfortunately nowhere in the instruction manual you're told to cut the RCA terminals and plug the wires to the harness. I discovered this reading the reviews. Pros: Easy to install Plug and play No need of programming steering wheel buttons
Cons: Instructions manual won't say anything about RCA terminals

Works as intended with one major catch...
Brian from Castle Hayne, NC on 5/25/2018
2012 Mazda 3
Product loses 2 stars for the absence of critical information in the documentation (which has been noted by others in these reviews) - specifically, if you don't have an amp in your car powering your speakers, you need to cut the RCA plugs off of the adapter plug's speaker wires and wire them directly to the radio plug. I was quite frustrated when I had my stereo volume up to max and it was barely at a whisper because my speaker connections are plugged into the RCA connections instead of wired into the stereo plug. Only after checking out the other adapter that was available (that did not retain the information center) and noticing that the connector wires were in the same spot and also reading through the reviews here was I able to confirm that the RCA plug wires needed to be cut off in order to use this adapter and actually hear the stereo. Otherwise this is a great product that worked for me out of the box without any further configuration or modification. I bought this for my 2012 Mazda3 so I could keep the information center capability and it didn't disappoint. I would recommend this product to anyone wanting to retain the full information center/steering wheel control functionality.
Pros: No configuration needed, retains all factory features (information center and steering wheel control).
Cons: No instruction given to cut the RCA plugs off of the speaker wires for non-amplifier configurations.

2013 Mazda 3
Works better than expected. Retained all the primary functions in my 2013 Mazda 3 w/Bose. I was a little worried at first because the instructions said I'd lose some features, but everything is working. A minor note of success, I was able to reuse the factory Sirius / XM antenna for my new unit that I purchased. I had to remove the glove box to get back to the back of the factory unit to remove it (there is a security bracket on the back of the unit that can only be removed by going through the glove box), and in doing so, the factory Sirius unit is right there, and uses the same antenna. Just remove the plastic clip and there ya go - no extra ugly antenna on the top of the car!
Pros: Everything works and sounds great!
Cons: Instructions can kind of be difficult, read carefully and take your time.

2008 Mazda 3
This was my first time installing one of these which prompted a couple of phone calls to tech support. They were quick and happy to help and made the install easy. I have two complaints. The first isn't that major but you will have to find somewhere in the cavity to tuck it to make room for the HU to fit. It's a tight enough fit in that cavity already without worrying about where to fit this. The second is the RCA jacks as there is no mention of them at all in the instructions. In my application, I have an OEM Bose system so I was told to plug them directly into the HU. Prior to calling, I was very close to cutting them off and wiring directly to the HU harness. I'm glad I called as it did save me some time and sound is perfect.
Pros: No need to wire speakers from harness to harness (in my application). SWC are fully functional.
Cons: Finding a place to tuck it so the HU will fit. No mention of RCA jacks in instructions.

Crap instructions. Torqued at Crutchfield
Bob from Elizabethtown, KY on 12/30/2017

What a poor effort. The directions are frankly terrible. 1) Directions did not even mention the RCA plugs attached to this module. After making all the connections and trying the unit there was only a tiny bit of audio coming out of the left front speaker. Now I log in and see somehow I was to figure out you are not supposed to use the RCA jacks to plug into the stereo. You are supposed to cut the RCA ends off and wire them directly to the stereo interface plug wires. Getting the factory interface plug off was a b*tch. Not happy to be doing it twice. You would think PAC or even Crutchfied would take 5 minutes to create a sticker/page and add it to the useless directions. 2) There is zero mention the installation would leave a factory interface plug dangling in the dash once done. I have bought three stereos from CF in last year - thought they would have QA'd what they shipped. I guess they like to have people call them despite the fact a simple sticker or sheet of paper would have saved the customer much aggravation.

Jim from Carlton, MN on 12/29/2017

I bought this harness for my son's 2008 Mazda 3. I worked well with the install. To be sure, Crutchfield's customer support team for installs is 2nd to NONE. I had a couple of questions on this one as the harness has RCA ends that plugged right into the back of the Kenwood stereo I bought. If the car has an amplifier, these outputs just plug right in. If the car doesn't have an amp, like mine, you have to cut the ends off the RCA leads and wire directly to the speaker wires. It was an easy fix and I learned something in the process. The steering wheel controls were perfectly responsive. Thanks Crutchfield!
Pros: performance, ease of install
Cons: no instruction for RCA outputs

Like a number of people point out, the instructions are not very clear on some connections. After I finished installation of new Kenwood and component speakers, I was very happy with the sound and features of the total system (thanks Crutchfield) so I didn't let the fact that I'd lost most of the information features (Avg MPG, Avg Speed & Miles to Empty) from the display bother me all that much at the time. Now I'm looking at opening up the dash again to replace some lights and I'm wondering should I take a chance and buy another to see if I can get the lost features back. 2008 Mazda 3 GT.

Works well! I installed a Pioneer AVH-2330NEX into my 2012 Mazda 3 with Bose audio, and didn't have any major issues. Steering wheel controls work fine Some small notes for things that weren't obvious in the manual: - My stock radio has three connectors in the back of it. The small one goes to the antenna adapter, the large one goes into this wiring interface, and the remaining connector is *unused*. It's for the stock auxiliary input jack, which is not relevant to aftermarket radios - The green wire on the harness goes to the violet/white wire on the Pioneer - There's two orange/white wires. Use the one in the interface connector for the Mazda CX5, otherwise use the one from the vehicle connector
Pros: No issues. Steering wheel controls work.
Cons: Instructions could be clearer

SWC worked except for the phone button, I have to do it from the receiver. A word of caution (and this is not against the PAC): if you have this similar vehicle you will lose fader functionality if you install I believe any aftermarket receiver. Before removing your old radio you must set your volume to 3/4 max and put fader and balance to dead center before installing a new receiver.

Good product, missing information in instructions
Chuck from Irvine, CA on 8/13/2017
2010 Mazda 6
The product is feature rich, but the instructions were not clear. I expected more from a product that is vehicle specific and at this price. Where the instructions failed me: - Didn't specify that one of the stock radio connections was abandoned during install (had to call Crutchfield support to verify) - Didn't specify that you need to cut the RCA connectors off the speaker leads for non-amplifier installations. - Instructions are detailed but missing key information, such as explaining their naming convention for connector types (vehicle/interface). Especially confusing when a stock connector is abandoned as part of the installation. - Duplicate connections coming from vehicle and interface connectors (reverse and illumination), confusing which to use (I chose the rock-paper-scissors selection method...unsuccessfully) - bad instructions caused install to take much longer than it should.
Pros: Retains steering wheel controls Can retain all stock connections Allows for custom programming of buttons with short/long pulse options.
Cons: Missing parts of instructions cause install to take much longer than it should

Perfect for '08 CX-9 w/ Bose
Andy from Westfield, IN on 1/29/2017
2008 Mazda CX-9
Very impressed. Integrated a Pioneer AVH-X3800BHS nicely with the Bose amp and steering wheel controls on my '08 CX-9. Has RCA plugs to connect directly to the head unit's pre-amp output, which was perfect for my configuration.

Easy to use
Brad from Annapolis, MD on 1/26/2017
2012 Mazda 5
I used this with a Pioneer 8200 NEX on a 2012 Mazda 5 (no Bose). Easy to use. Wires are color coded. Only had a couple issues with the included instructions. First since harness does NOT have both RCA and wire connectors for the speakers. I made the mistake of assuming this meant that everyone should use the RCA connectors. For the Pioneer RCA connectors require an amplifier. Thus I ended up having to cut the RCA connectors off (thanks Crutchfield tech support.) Secondly the blue and yellow wire off the steering control has contradictory instructions on two different pages in the book. On page one it indicated the wire was only for Kenwood and JVC. On page 2 it said that with exception to the listed special circumstances it should always be connect to the power antenna out put. Again thanks Crutchfield tech for informing that it is not used with Pioneer. The steering wheel controls worked perfectly after setting the dial to the correct number. I recommend this harness.
Pros: Works great once all is connected. Instructions are basically good.
Cons: Would be nice to have an instruction suggesting cutting the RCA connectors off if necessary. Also contradictory instructions on the use of the blue/yellow wire off the steering wheel control.

I will give this product five star because of this one is plug and play. Really for my 2010 mazda cx 9 touring without boss system work perfectly. All of the buttons of steering wheel work as previously, overall I can adjust lcd panel clock from the steering wheel controller which is I think bonus. Installation is very easy by the instraction book. I will recommend this product to my friends and relatives. So much thanks also Crutchfield website to sale this type of real product and I also give five-stars too your best service.
Pros: Easy to install and work smoothly as previous.
Cons: Nothing to say

Terrific interface
Bruce from Cincinnati, OH on 9/19/2016
2010 Mazda CX-9
This system allows the after market head unit to integrate with the vehicle system, including the steering wheel controls. Clear directions on hooking up (after several calls to Crutchfield), and immediately initialized to match the vehicle. No programming needed. Very seamless. The changes in operation compared to the OEM system are clearly outlines in the instructions.
Pros: Seamless, worked immediately.
Cons: None.

Interface with a ton of features
Justin from Brunswick, ME on 7/31/2016
2007 Mazda CX-7
This interface solved all my problems and concerns with installing an aftermarket head unit and keeping the factory Bose amp. Steering wheel controls are preprogrammed and work like factory. Allows you to turn on Centerpoint, adjust level, adjust amp gain and fader. Plenty features.
Pros: Easy to install. Works flawlessly.
Cons: None.

OEM steering wheel and LED display
Dum L from Newtown, PA on 5/19/2016
2014 Mazda 5
Pretty much the only choice if you want to retain OEM dashboard display use and steering wheel controls with an aftermarket stereo. Such is the current state of aftermarket integration. The electronics are getting more sophisticated but this part makes it easier to handle. I've used older PAC units before that required programming and let me tell you it was not fun trying to read LED flashes and hoping it all works. This pre-programmed unit only required selecting the dial for manufacturer and making the requisite wire connections, much like you would do with any aftermarket wiring harness anyways. The documentation is a bit outdated and confusing to read. Using this with a Kenwood unit and the dash LED panel continues to work but remains on Audio; no more bluetooth, aux, xm, etc. which is just fine. The MPG info display works fine and is correctly mapped to the steering wheel info button. Volume up/down, skip forward/backward buttons work great and I think it's actually more responsive than the OEM which always had this weird lag. The mic button for hands free is somehow mapped to Attenuation on/off, no big deal since there is no handsfree system to speak of now. Things get a little weirder with the phone answer/end buttons. The answer button is only usable to pickup a call, pressing it by itself will not bring up the phone function by itself. No idea what the hang up button does as I was not able to get it to work to hang up a call. The unit can be reprogrammed manually.
Pros: easy hookup, pre-programmed for most buttons
Cons: odd mapping for Kenwood

Great product, but requires some extra work.
Sean from Portland, ME on 3/30/2016
2008 Mazda CX-7
The product works as it is intended and is a really nice part for my car. I love being able to use my steering wheel controls as they normally would. However, the dial that you are supposed to turn depending on your radio brand is very difficult to turn without a small flat-head screwdriver. Along with this there are extra plugs for the speaker + and - that have to be cut off to be wired to the radio. Other than this it is well worth the money to still be able to change my clock and use my steering wheel controls.
Pros: Works well Easy to understand Instructions are well written Allows me to change my clock and use steering wheel controls
Cons: Speaker wires have plugs that need to be cut off Dial is difficult to turn

Wiring Interface
SeanL from Dallas, Texas on 1/15/2016
This was my first time to install a car stereo. With this product and a bit of help from the Crutchfeild support it was pretty easy. This interface allowed me to keep most of the steering wheel functionality in my Mazda CX-9. I did not know that I could not use the factory microphone. Yes, the stereo I picked had an aftermarket mic, but it looks rough and it does not sound great. I really wish this product could integrate the factory mic as well.
Pros: Overall pretty easy to use.
Cons: Can't use factory Microphone.

DM from Massachusetts on 12/14/2015
2010 Mazda CX-9
I remember horror stories from my friends who used to work in Car Audio install about interfacing with existing components, steering wheel controls, etc. This made it a breeze! Contrary to what Crutchfield reported, ALL steering wheel features were retained, including the information display control.
Pros: Steering wheel button functionality retained, LCD info display still works, just differently. Interfaced my head unit with factory Bose system flawlessly.
Cons: None.

Works well
Erie from California on 8/5/2015
2014 Mazda CX-5
Bought this PAC to go with the Kenwood DDX9902S. It works very well. First of all the picture is of an older version. The version I received actually has RCA plugs on the speaker wires which is a MAJOR PLUS! Everything works as expected, even the steering wheel control on my 2014 Mazda CX-5. If you want to do more advance programming of the steering wheel controls, it requires you to access the PAC and push a button on it and watching the light on it blink. The instructions for programming weren't very clear, I had to do some reading elsewhere to figure it out. Downside of this is that if you decide to change steering wheel controls you have to pull out your head unit to access the PAC.
Pros: RCA plugs on it, steering wheel controls programmable.
Cons: Manual configuration that requires taking head unit out, programming it is difficult.

Works great in my Mazda5
JFun from Georgia on 7/11/2015
This adapter worked perfectly with my Mazda5. I did have to cut off the RCA connectors (as other reviewers have noted) but that was no big deal. I thought about installing female RCA's on my existing wiring but decided not to. It would be really great if the volume was displayed on my car's display as well as the radio but I understand that's not as simple as it sounds. It just says "Audio" and then "volume" or the mode when you change them. Does exactly what I expected it to.
Pros: Works great with my car
Cons: A little pricey

Mazda 5 install from Sacramento, CA on 6/14/2015

This fit the bill for install into my Mazda 5. It was fairly simple to install. although having to cut off the rca connectors to link to the Pioneer wiring harness was a bit of an annoyance. The steering wheel integration works well. I just wished there was a way to integrate the bluetooth answer/hang up into the steering wheel controls.
Pros: worked as described
Cons: none yet

Great!
Wiiland from Michigan on 4/16/2015
2010 Mazda 5
Makes wiring easier and it's great to retain steering wheel controls. Wish they gave you a little more cord so that you could mount the box in the glove compartment since you have to press a button on it to reprogram any of the functions. Also, mine came with RCA plugs for a pre-amp already installed, but this wasn't reflected in the directions. I had to call in for support and then cut off the RCAs to wire to the speakers and everything worked fine.
Pros: Easy to use
Cons: Outdated instructions

EASY
Fire Proof from Missouri on 1/29/2015
2009 Mazda 6
I installed this SWC interface with a Kenwood DPX500BT head unit in my 2009 Mazda 6. After a few self-inflicted issues it went in without a single problem. The interface actually increased my control over the message center. I can now put messages and reminders up on the dash where I can't forget them. The installation was even easier than the one I did on my Bride's vehicle a few years ago. Truly Plug and Play. Read through ALL the directions; sometimes they're a little vague.
Pros: Simple to wire and easy to use. All my factory functions work perfectly.
Cons: I have no cons for this.

This is a great product. Lets you keep your SWC and also the display info. From the different forums, I could not figure if I would still be able to use my gas mileage gizmo and reset it. So for anybody who wants to know-yes you can.
Pros: Makes the wiring and installation very easy. No need to tap in the car for reverse and parking brake wires (I also installed a rearview camera).
Cons: Some wires are extra and it took a few calls to tech support to be sure I am connecting them right.

Steering wheel control more functional than before
AndyC from Philadelphia, PA on 1/22/2014
2008 Mazda CX-7
Works great with my 08 Mazda CX7. I had to do some of the optional program as the out of the box programming left a little bit to be desired. But after a couple of attempts, the steering wheel controls do everything they did with the factory unit and more. It also allows me to easily adjust the separate LCD display that was controlled by the original factory head unit.
Pros: Easy to program
Cons: Lots of extra wires depending on installation

Great adapter
Ames from Killeen, TX on 1/19/2014
2009 Mazda 6
This steering wheel control adapter works very well. It is pre-programed, so it is basically plug and play. You can also add custom programs if you need to. Instructions are very clear, but I misunderstood one step. I called in and talked to tech support. There was no wait time and the technician helped me solve my problem right away. I would recommend this adapter to anyone with a Mazda. It works very well for me.
Pros: Easy to install, maintains factory functions.
Cons: I lost the factory auxiliary input to my stereo. It seems like this should be an easy fix, especially since my new head unit has an auxiliary input.

A disappointment

Had to send back the first one because the swi died in less than 24 hours after install. The new one seems to be working fine, but the controls are a wee bit sluggish and sometimes don't work at all...I don't think I'd use this brand again but it is fine for now.
Pros: Mostly does what it says, price, convenience of the bundle
Cons: Sluggish, possible reliability issues (can't truly judge based off the first one) , manual control setup.

Not for the Beginner
Mark from Wisconsin on 7/8/2013
2010 Mazda 6
Let me first say this product [probably isn't for the first time installer. I am not a first time installer and was able to get it wired and working without issue. This was the perfect solution to allow me to keep my steering wheel controls working. It did take a couple resets to get the controls functioning correctly. I found the easiest way to reset everything is to just disconnect the negative side of the battery and let the car sit for a bit. Reconnect and the adapter was functioning correctly.
Pros: Allowed me to keep my factory steering wheel functions
Cons: Ease of install, not recommended for a beginner Price

First try was a disappointment!
Crutchfield customer from San Bernardino, CA on 5/17/2013
Did not work! A second unit is being shipped.
Pros: Color coded for easy install. Clear instructions!
Cons: It didn't work with the steering wheel controls. It will be replaced, but I believe an item this expensive should work the first time. It does not come with any connectors. You have to strip the wires / cables and buy the connectors or use black tape to connect it to your receiver.
