Overview

Our take on the PAC RP5-GM11 Wiring Interface

PAC's RadioPRO5 RP5-GM11 wiring interface enables you to install a new car stereo and retain useful factory functions in your 2000-up GM vehicle. You can upgrade to the higher sound quality of an aftermarket receiver while maintaining your factory-installed OnStar®, factory amplifier, Bluetooth®, safety warning chimes, and the Retained Accessory Power (RAP) if equipped. In some vehicles, you can also retain your factory rear seat entertainment system. If you're installing a navigation receiver, this interface also features the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS), parking brake, and reverse connections you need.

Keep your factory features

Control your new radio

The RadioPRO5 interface retains your factory steering wheel audio controls with your new stereo. You can even reassign the functions of your factory buttons.

Installation note: This interface will not retain the fader controls on vehicles with the factory premium Bose® audio system.

Note: Most vehicles will require additional installation parts — please identify your vehicle if you haven’t done so. You can also call an Advisor for more information.

Expensive and it's required

2005 GMC Yukon
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

You're already spending $500+ on a radio, but wait, here's another $85 that's required. The unit is roughly 3" square and you have to stuff that behind your new radio somewhere along with all the pigtails coming out of the radio. Add to that 3 harnesses that come out of 3 different sides of the unit. It would have been nice if all the harnesses come out 1 side so the wires could all line up in the same direction making it more compact.

Pros: Allows you to install aftermarket radios

Cons: Price Wire harness layout

Great

Pretty much required for the install in my 2008 Corvette. Made it pretty easy, although there's some extra connection that left me a little confused during the install. NOTE: Turn down the volume on the "chime" module before install. It's way too loud.

Pros: Everything works as expected - worth the money for the simplicity

Cons: Had to call tech support to make sure some wires aren't used

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The PAC is a great device and straight forward out of the box with its directions. I took one star because sometimes it can be finicky on first start up. I've had experiences where it goes into programming mode and takes over the ignition (with two different vehicles 03 Tahoe & 04 Suburban). To remedy this, a disconnect of the battery and reconnect fixed it.

2006 Chevrolet Silverado 2500/3500
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed in '06 Silverado 2500HD (bose system), with Pioneer AVH-501ex. As described on website, I had to cut some of the support behind the dash to get the unit to fit (especially with the size of the wiring components with the PAC kit). Installation was relatively simple with basic electronic tools and connectors. 2 areas of caution for future installers: (1) instructions are misleading/inaccurate on the mute wire connections. The pioneer has a yellow/white mute wire and the PAC kit has a brown loop mute wire. The instructions say to cut the loop and connect brown to radio mute (yellow/white on my unit). When following those directions, the amp/speakers would not turn on until you turned the OnStar ON, then OFF - then the speakers came to life. Ultimately, I left the yellow/white mute wire capped and re-connected the brown loop - works perfect now. (2) the SWC harness has 2 options - only connect one or the other (NOT BOTH). There's a 2-pin connector and a blue/white wire. You may want to connect the blue/white wire to the other blue/white wires - DON'T! I hooked up the 2-pin connector and left the blue/white wire capped - all SWC buttons work great.

Pros: Retain factory functions & great sound, detailed instructions

Cons: mute wire instructions should be updated, bulky box to fit behind head unit

I had this installed by a local shop. Was able to maintain all steering wheel controls. The door chime however is very annoying. It does work, however it is very loud and obnoxious. I am going to go back to the shop to see if they can turn it down, if not then I will have it disconnected.

Pros: Maintained steering wheel controls.

Cons: Door chime is very annoying and loud.

Product was easy to wire in and not very complicated but after everything was wired there was static when moving the unit, I triple checked everything to make sure there were no loose wires or connections but there was still static when the unit was moved. Works flawlessly! Installed on an '04 Silverado 1500, very easy to wire up to my Kenwood DDX9904S, all the wires were pretty much color coded. Only issue is the door chime sounds terrible unless you turn it down. Even at level 2 out of 4 it sounds bad, turn it down to 1 before installing.

Pros: Easy install, good quality, customizable options for steering wheel button functions.

Cons: Door chime sounds bad unless turned down to 1.

New life for an old Suburban

Barry from Overland Park on 10/30/2018

2003 Chevrolet Suburban
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This made the installation of a Kenwood DNX994S in my 2003 Suburban "plug-n-play". The steering wheel controls worked perfectly, no programming needed. The chime module does work , but it sounds very tinny and cheap. I'm sure I'll get used to it. The wiring harnesses would have been easier to install if one side would have been a little longer. With plugs on all sides of this interface, it would work best being between the radio and the factory plug/harness. I ended up putting this to the right of the new radio behind the dash storage pocket, and it was a challenge plugging everything in with no room for two hands. There may have been more room behind the new radio if I had cut the metal brace out, but I just removed the old radio's plastic supports. My new radio fit, but it only had an inch or so behind it.

Pros: Makes wiring very simple. Retains factory steering wheel controls without extra programming.

Cons: Plug location makes installed unit a little bulky. Chime module sounds cheap.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This was my first time purchasing from Crutchfield and I will tell you that I will not shop anywhere else for Car Audio products again! They had the best customer service I have ever experienced, kind, patient and very knowledgeable. Along with the Wiring Interface, I had purchased a Pioneer Stereo from them earlier, which I recommend. They were happy to give me the discount on the Wiring Package since I had bought the stereo from them in a separate order a couple weeks prior. Upon receiving my equipment, the instructions were very clear and everything was pretty much a plug-and-play interface, with the typical connection of stereo wires (they told me about these awesome threaded wire connectors which you can see in the picture, just strip, insert, and screw together. No soldering or crimping needed!) I was able to keep all features in my 2005 GMC Sierra (steering wheel cntrls. most importantly, chime feature (this is optional which I love, just plug it in if you want to add it), my OnStar, factory Sub, ect... So far I am loving my new radio and taking advantage of every feature (USB, AUX, and BT which my wife really wanted for hands free phone calls). I was recommended this company from my Brother, and I would recommend it to anyone else! Thanks Crutchfield!

Pros: Service, Ease of Assembly, Price, Amount of Inventory Selection

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This harness works well in my 2004 Chevy 2500hd. This harness did everything that it promised, my on-star, steering wheel controls, and bose audio system to work with my new head unit. One of the connectors going to the box wouldn't connect tightly, and was causing my audio to cut in and out. I fixed that issue with a zip tie. The door chime is kind of annoying. It sounds tinny and cheap. Turning the volume down in it makes it sound a lot better. This harness is a pretty good buy, just be sure to set the dial to the right make of your stereo and make sure the harnesses are all tightly connected.

Pros: Retains on-star, bose audio, door chime, and steering wheel controls. Pretty simple to wire and install.

Cons: Harnesses may not plug in tight enough. Door chime sounds kind of cheap.

2005 Chevrolet Silverado 2500/3500
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed this around 3 years ago with my radio. It worked perfect until around 6 months ago. I was driving one day when my whole dash and radio cut out. No gauges worked, as if it had completely been unplugged. I pulled over, turned the truck off, and tried to turn the truck back on. The truck did not do anything, as if I had not even turned the key. After some reading in forums, I was able to pull the PAC RP5-CM11 out in the parking lot and the truck turned back on. This unit, according to forums where others have had the same issue, is susceptible to shorting out after warranty is up. I contacted the manufacturer and Crutchfield and I am not able to get a free replacement. Unfortunately this is still the only option that provides full use of the steering wheel buttons, so I am forced to buy a new one.

Pros: Works well

Cons: Doesn't work well forever

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The chime. Ugh. Crackling, obnoxious, sounds like a blown speaker being over-driven. Steering wheel controls don't work and unit doesn't dim with dash lighting. I have no way of knowing if this is the interface or due to the way it was wired by Crutchfield (I paid for the ready-harness service.) The parking brake interlock on the head unit is also a bit flaky, but again, can't isolate the failure point. Other than maintaining the chimes for doors and seatbelt, I'm not really sure what this item delivered since nothing else works. Unfortunately I have to carve out time to call and talk to someone in order to figure out what the likely culprit is. Until then, two instead of one star is the best I can do.

Pros: Not sure there are any

Cons: Horrific chime, none of the OEM controls work.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

steering wheel controls do not work. everything hooked up correctly (not my first stereo install) and triple checked. the unit led lights up when a swc button pressed but doesn't do anything to the new kenwood head unit. also tried programming the buttons all separate and still nothing. seems the factory amp wire needs to share the remote wire for power up. this could be the issue but feel like I'm wasting time fighting something that won't work. Was supposed to be a nice surprise for the wife and it doesn't work. RAP sometimes works and then doesn't as well. most likely crap in a blue box!

Used for install on an 05 Yukon XL with factory Bose amplified speaker system and a JVC R930 BTS radio. Initially looked like a major project to wire and set it up. The instructions had lots of set-up options for changing programming and such. I just hooked up all the wires, plugged in the connectors as indicated and everything, including the steering wheel controls, worked without any additional programming.

I realize that different harnesses will work differently in certain vehicles, but the reviews made it sound like this harness would make "everything" work. In the C6 Corvette the steering controls for audio work, but the phone controls will not. This is confirmed with PAC. Therefore, in the case of the Corvette I rate it as merely functional.

Issues with module causing error messages on vehicle

John from Tonawanda, NY on 7/3/2018

Issues with Body Control Module on 2004 GM Pontiac Grand Prix. I had 3 error messages from day 1 when I installed the unit. Errors were: Service ABS system, Service Stability Control system, Service Traction Control. Apparently the Body Control Module on this vehicle did not like the electronic pass through of the PAC module. I figured I would give it a few days to adapt. It apparently did but, once or twice a month the gauges (fuel, tack, temp) will completely go dead with the exception of the speedometer. Additionally, the 3 error messages will randomly come up. I am a technician by trade so I know what I'm doing and soldiered all wires to prevent any problems, or so I thought. After 2 years the 3 error messages now will come on every other ignition start. Could this unit be bad from the start? Poor engineering?

Pros: -Makes an Aftermarket stereo work -Retains full functionality of steering wheel controls

Cons: -Intermittent error codes on computer information center for ABS, Stability control. -Gauges sometimes stop working until restarted. -Instructions not clear at times.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The connectors do not stay in the box. They have clips to hold them but they don't do anything. After three tries I got it to work I put the dash together, closed the glove box, and the glove box closing jarred the wires enough to pop back out. Also the wires connections in the connectors are poor. You can barely wiggle a wire and listen to a speaker crackle and fade in and out. And I'm not talking about a spliced wire, which would be my fault. I'm talking about in the wires going to the box.

Pros: When it works it makes the radio work.

Cons: Poor quality, bad wire connections in the connectors, connectors pop out too easy.

This device enabled me to keep all my factory features in my 2003 Silverado 1500HD with 7 speaker Bose, steering wheel controls, rear seat entertainment, OnStar, and door chime. Speaking of the door chime, it is so loud on the factory setting that it distorts the sound, making it sound terrible. I turned it down, and it sounds better, but it is so quiet that it doesn't really grab my attention like a door chime should.

Pros: everything except the door chime

Cons: door chime

2004 Chevrolet Silverado 2500/3500
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great little interface that worked as designed, with a couple of small tweaks for my Kenwood DMX7704S. The chime is only obnoxious because its ships turned to the highest volume level. Use a small screwdriver and set it to the lowest volume first, then work your way up. If you get a repeating chime, turn everything off and reset the chime by unplugging, and replugging the interface cables again. The default setup for my radio used 5 of the 8 steering wheel buttons out of the box after being set for a Kenwood brand head. Had to program 3 buttons. The interface come with instructions to reprogram, easy to do.

Pros: -Allowed me to continue using steering wheel controls and other car features like retained accessory power. -Once the wires are all connected, it's plug and play. -Upgradable firmware if one is necessary -Very well made, solid connections -PAC support via 800 number, very responsive and helpful just like Crutchfield.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The Pac RP5-G11 wiring system made the install a no brainer. I chose to tin and solder the wiring before heat shrinking over connections. Was able to do all this the day before install. Made it as easy as plug and play. I did have one issue with the instructions, they were wrong for the Sony unit I was installing. The selector switch must be set to seven, not eight as in the included chart states. A quick call to the outstanding Crutchfield technical support solved my problem. Tip: Do not use the cell phone already paired to receiver you are trying to troubleshoot. Frequent disconnects to tech advisor will result.

Pros: Worked perfectly with my Silverado steering wheel controls, could also make custom functions and assign to any button.

Cons: Chart for selector switch was wrong, needed to call Crutchfield support to resolve.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this PAC RP5-GM11 unit to pair with the new Kenwood head unit that I purchased so I could retain the factory On-Star and steering wheel controls in my 2009 Corvette. The first thing I noticed upon opening the box, is that for the price of the unit it feels very cheap and flimsy. Onto the installation, the instructions leave much to be desired. The wiring table regarding the colors were correct, however after getting everything wired up per the instructions, I was getting no sound out of the speakers. Finally after about 30 minutes, I gave up and called Crutchfield tech support at 6pm on a Friday and they were wonderful. After only a 10 minute conversation, the guy was able to assist and correct the issue. The PAC unit has 2 places for output, one for factory amplified and one for non-amplified and even though my car did not have a factory bose system, it apparently still has a factory amplifier so we had to connect one additional wire to resolve the issue. After hanging up with support, I started to put the receiver into the dash and started having speakers cut in and out like there was a short. Upon investigation, the plastic pigtails of the PAC wiring harness that plug into the unit are very flimsy and do not plug in very securely to the housing, nor do the clips engage. I had to press very hard and firm to make a good connection, and was afraid that I would break the unit, but did not. All controls work, however cheap design.

Pros: -Retained steering Wheel controls -Retained On-Star -Excellent Crutchfield Tech Support

Cons: -Poor/incomplete instructions -Flimsy Design -Flimsy Connectors

Glad I went with it

I have a 2003 Suburban with OnStar, Bose and steering wheel controls. The hardware itself is brilliant and high quality. No cheap parts or pieces. All of the connectors fit perfectly and are solid. Easy to set up for whatever stereo you are installing with just setting the selector (small phillips screwdriver) on the side. Connect the wiring for the back of the head unit and it works. Only issue that I ran into was there is a wire marked "remote" Since my unit doesn't have a remote I didn't think I needed it. Wrong! This is the "remote turn on" for the power amp. The Crutchfield rep got me fixed up with this in about two minutes. My only gripe would be the chime. It's a bit cheesy sounding. With that being said the sound level is adjustable on it so I just turned it way down. Win/win since all the bongs and alerts get on my nerves anyway. Overall I'm super impressed and pleased with this interface. Well worth the money.

On partially drained battery, interface burned out resulting in truck data bus non-functional (i.e. no power windows, no power locks, no bose amps, most of dash gauges non-functional, indicator light on for ABS, etc). When truck was turned off, radio remained on. 10A charger was used to charge battery and not a jump start. Truck is an 05 Chevy Silverado with Diesel motor.

Pros: Product worked as expected for 1.5 years.

Cons: Should have better circuit around CAN bus when part fails so it does not take down the safety related CAN bus operations of ABS, airbags, etc.

The wiring interface provided seamless integration into my factory wiring system. It said that the rear audio controls would not work, but they did. When I first installed it it was doing really weird stuff (unbalanced sound, loud static, engine noise through the speakers), I had to take it out and forcefully seat one of the plugs into the control box. I seriously had to jam it in there. After that it has worked great.

Pros: It worked even better than they said it would.

Cons: The buzzer sounds odd, installation was tricky, and it is just not perfect

Great for retaining factory controls. Be warned that it takes up a lot of room in the dash and trying to stuff all the guts back in is a pain. The connections came apart several times while putting my rig back together. After a cooling off period I got it all put away. Remember to do the 30 second boot up while everything is apart. Don't even get me started on the 'chime' module, turn down the volume on it before stuffing it away.

Pros: Works as described

Cons: Connections kind of flimsy the chime, oh that chime Space requirements

There's a random buzzing noise associated with the rpm's of my motor that has appeared from my front left tweeter. Only my front right speakers will play music usually and sometimes the rest of the speakers will play. I don't know if my product is defective or the stock amp is not cooperating. Id love some feedback or help.

Pros: Everything was easy to use and install

Cons: Buzzing noise from my tweeters. Only front right speakers play sound. It doesn't seem to work well for its big price tag.

Great necessary item to keep your steering wheel controls, OnStar and other functions working in your vehicle. Seemed a little daunting at first with all the wires and different connections, but a quick call to Crutchfield support and I had it done in less than 10 minutes. It is a little bulky and trying to get the stereo into it's proper position with all these wires, connections and the adapter was a bit of a challenge, but when that was done everything worked like a charm. The only other thing is the connectors don't snap in, only push in and when I first put the stereo back in, one of them fell out so I had everything back together except the dash and tried to power up the radio and nothing. So I had to take it back out and see what happened. Otherwise, installation went pretty smoothly.

Pros: Retains all necessary functions. Easy to set up.

Cons: Takes up a lot of space behind stereo. Connections don't snap in.

The built quality is a bit flimsy. The connector with incoming car wires has less than perfect contact and sound was disappearing from left side speakers until i put "extra holding pressure" with electrical tape. Works fine now. Also when i was buying the whole kit with headunti i didnt expect to slice/connect any wires. Had to do it from the box to headunit. There was no plug and play adapter/cable and i didn't know about this until middle of install. If i had no previous experience it would have been an issue... it added probably about 20mins to install time. Controls work with my chevy avalanche.

I connected this all up and.... it kinda worked, The steering wheel controls were not correct, I was not able to figure out how to program it, and the drivers door speaker kept dropping out. I got frustrated and buttoned up the install since OnStar was working and mustic played ok. Fast forward to the following weekend, I found some basic challenges mentioned on the web but nothing the same as mine so decided to try one more time and call tech support if needed. I ended up unplugging and switching it to the alternate amplified connection, which didn't work, no sound, plugged it back in again and all worked perfectly. Sheesh :) So all ended well.

Pros: 1. Works as advertised 2. Easy to wire up

Cons: 1. Instructions are a little basic for an amateur installer such as myself 2. Did not work right away, Its possible I had not connected the plug firmly enough 3. The chime that used to come through my speaker is now an annoying cheap sounding chime. I ended up unplugging it and leaving it off.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this product for use in a Hummer H3 with the Monsoon amplified system including a Sub woofer and Onstar. My experience with this product seems to be inline with most others. During my installation i was very careful to solder all of the connections and make sure all connections were secured. I turned on the Truck and was greeted by a sick sounding chime and a shrieking noise from a few of the speakers. I called Crutchfield support and talked with Eli and we tried various things to find the issue. I did find out that the shrieking disappeared or switched speakers when i pushed on the connector that plugs into the amplified port on the PAC module. I was sent a new module and behold it works perfectly. It seems there are a high amount of defective units coming from PAC. I also took about a foot of fabric and wrapped the chime in it. I then taped it tightly around the chime and buried it as far back in the dash as i could. This actually makes the chime sound half way decent (turned down to the level 1 setting as well). All in all when you get a unit that works as intended it is a pretty solid product. But if you can find a comparable product from Metra i would give them my business.

Pros: Cheap, Straight forward, easy installation, plug and play. Retains most factory settings in an H3 Monsoon system (no fader as stated)

Cons: Chime is of Rubbish quality, harness wires are short and can make it difficult to move around, No Fader Retention

Works great

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a super cool product. Just wire this little blue box between your factory harness and your radio and somehow you get to keep your steering wheel controls, factory chimes, factory amp, onstar, and whatever else. It was a little overwhelming when I saw all the extra wires, but as I started putting all of them together following the instructions it really wasn't bad at all. It's rough having to cough up the money for this thing, but it was either that or no new radio for me. Everything works great.

Pros: I have my steering wheel controls I have my factory chimes which means I'm not going to forget to turn my lights off I have my factory bose system

Cons: The factory chimes are no longer played through the speaker, but now through a little box that comes with the interface. I was very frustrated with how loud it was for the first few days, but yesterday I realized that I could adjust the volume. All is good now.

Nice wiring kit!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This wiring interface was very complete and the wiring was straightforward. I chose to solder the wires and used shrink tubing afterwards for a professional installation look. There was one part of the instructions that was unclear, I went out on a limb and wired it as I interpreted the instructions and then confirmed this with the on line help at Crutchfield before plugging it in and powering it up. The area that could have been more clear in the instructions was: 1) "If the aftermarket radio has a mute input cut this loop and connect the outer brown wire to the mute input." The term "outer brown wire" could have been more clear, but I figured (rightly) it was the part of the wire loop that was closest to an end of the connector. The interface functions flawlessly but the a warning chime tone is very annoying and grating on the ears. It is not at all like the factory radio tone - which was much more pleasant on the ears. I have turned down the volume on this chime as much as possible so that is not so annoying. I would have expected this simple part of the kit to be of higher quality for the money paid.

Pros: Simple install.

Cons: Annoying warning chime tone.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I own newer style GM full size trucks so the idea of updating my 2007 Sierra classic with a decent touch screen and back up camera was a project I was looking forward to. I have been a GM tech for 20 years and have seen customer issues in past with these interface modules...lets face it, even factory modules have issues with communication sometimes. First impression of unboxing "meh" still some hard wiring between radio and module, and a chime module (pet peeve) on sound coupled with fact that a fairly large piece of instrument panel brace gets cut out for final install. I installed bullet connectors for a basic test run, ended up working but tripped multiple communication codes with BCM and Digital radio receiver (on star) module. Tech assistance was helpful, I assumed either failed interface module or not compatible with my truck, either way I was jaded at that point. I ended up keeping my speakers and they sound great even with factory radio. Sending back radio and module. Crutchfield as always was super helpful with all process and return has been sent. Its to bad these radio manufactures do not make a direct fit unit, I would pay $ for a plug and play unit, the interface module just leaves another possibility when trouble shooting. It must work in some GM vehicle, I read reviews.?? For the record the truck is a 2007 Sierra Classic 2500HD Regular Cab 8 foot box, head unit does have XM, On star and six disc changer with steering wheel controls, does not have BOSE. Pi

Works... but two challenges in 2006 Chevy Tahoe with Alpine ilx-107: 1). The steering wheel controls are a bit finicky... only work if you 'short tap'... holding the button down has no response... for volume it is natural to 'hold down' to keep increasing/decreasing volume (worked that way with stock radio) so to change volume significantly, you need to tap/pause/tap repeatedly... not optimal. 2). I absolutely could not get the Alpine unit to believe my vehicle was not moving... so it would not enable any setting/text modes. Tried Alpine customer service and got limited help. Finally got it working like a champ and I am now good to go... but really annoyed I needed to spend $$ to find a workaround. That being said, my setup works now!

Pros: worked mating older 2006 vehicle with brand-new head unit steering wheel controls 'work' albeit not perfectly

Cons: would not register vehicle 'not moving' w/o work around Changing volume on steering column requires series of short taps

Surprisingly easy to install. Took my time and wired it all up at a table before installing it in my truck. I don't think the chime is as big a deal as others, it can be turned down or covered with tape but does sound a bit "cheap". I was able to retain the functionality of my steering wheel controls and works smooth. I took off one star because the instructions that came with my unit were wrong, my install wasn't working until I looked up more current instructions online. The code selector for what brand of stereo you are installing was wrong. Once I got the right info it worked great.

Pros: Easy to install, works as it should.

Cons: Instructions were flat out wrong, its fairly big and may be challenging to find a spot for it. Chime sounds cheap.

This made installation a breeze. Installed a Pioneer head unit into my 2005 Suburban and all wires matched up perfectly. My only disappointment is that it replaces the stock chime with a new chime unit that sounds a bit cheap.

Pros: Simplicity

Pros: 1. Easy to wire 2. Did not have to configure 3. Retained On-Star and steering wheel controls

Cons: 1. The buzzer has a terrible quality sound, wish they would have just used the speakers for the buzzer output like other adapters. 2. Bulky, can be difficult to fit in the dash.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

While the RP5-GM11 connected to my 2006 Sierra and works as it should, the wiring harness left a little to be desired. I was getting electrical noise with the engine and ended up having to solder two connections in the harness to get it to stop. Once that was complete, the stereo is finally installed and the interface works as it should. If someone was hoping for a plug and play type of install, they would have been sadly disappointed. Also, the instuctions went not very clear on what connector should be connected to which port and you have to watch for the labelling on the module to make sure you connect the speaker connection to the right port, depending on whether you have a factory amplifier or not.

Pros: Interfaces with the vehicle quite well Allows the steering wheel controls to work

Cons: No way to make the phone the phone button override the On-Star Wiring harness was not properly crimped

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is only getting three stars from me. It does connect the new Pioneer deck to the truck cleanly, but the wiring is so short it was difficult to get it to fall behind the radio when installing and not fall underneath the deck and cause fit issues. I stuck a long screwdriver under the radio and pushed the wires and interfaces back out of the way. The antennae adapter never felt like it was installed securely into the factory cable. No click, didn't go in very far and fell out several times while installing the radio. The parking brake issue didn't get resolved wiring the light green wire to the green wire that Crutchfield tech support told me to wire it to. It just doesn't work. I had to buy a third party device to enable features on the radio.

Pros: Works as advertised but...

Cons: Parking brake safety issue not resolved Wires are too short Antennae adapter not very secure

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This thing caused me more headaches than i thought it was going to... The harness arrived and I began soldering to the harness from the head unit. Most of the wires matched up perfectly as shown in the instructions, but first problem began with the "light green" wire for Parking Brake Output (-). First of all, it is exactly the same shade of green as the "Green" wire for the Rear L+ Input... So I had to do some testing to figure out which wire was which. Would be nice if they used different shaded of green or put a label on one... Second issue was being sent a harness with wrong instructions. This was the most annoying and took some researching to figure it out. Basically, I was sent the harness that belongs to the instructions of Rev. 061813. But the instructions in the box were for Rev. 022516. Took me some googling to find the right instructions. Would have saved me a lot of time to either receive the correct harness, or the correct instructions. There are no revision numbers on the box or on the harness, and only one advertised on PAC website. Not sure why I got a harness from 2013 revision, and instructions from a 2016 revision. Aside from that the harness seems to work fine now. Steering wheel controls work. Chime is ok.

I was worried that with all the plugging in and adjusting (not to mention soldering a dozen wires for the radio installation) that something just wouldn't work right. But I assembled it all and it worked perfectly. I have steering wheel control just like the stock radio. I also bought the chime since the stock radio is what generated the annoying beep every time you open the door with keys in the ignition. Here's a tip: If it's too loud, put a piece of tape over about 90% of the little speaker hole and it will cut the volume down. Experiment before you put it all away behind the dash and you can adjust the volume based on how much of the hole you cover.

I bought this to integrate my steering wheel control with the new deck. I installed the deck one day and had questions on this. However, they had closed for the day. Do Not Buy If You Have A Lux Bose Amp

Jason from White Post, VA on 2/11/2017

Let me start by saying I have a 2005 Cadillac Escalade EXT with a stock Lux Bose amp and Bose speakers. You can confirm if you have the Lux Bose amp by checking for Y91 in your glove box parts list. This PAC unit was nothing but problems from the start. With everything connected properly, half the speakers would either not work or would be super quiet. The speaker fading ability is also non-existent - you lose that from factory stock. However, the Most Annoying Part of this piece of crap PAC audio unit is that it has issues triggering the Lux Bose amp on start up. Sometimes but not every time, there would be no sound when I start the truck. The Only way to fix it was to turn the truck off and back on, needless to say it was extremely annoying. The only thing I could think of to fix this was to bypass the PAC box and wire the amp directly into the stock connector but that would require cutting into my factory wires and why should I have to do that when I purchased this product? I had contacted PAC audio and you guessed it, they never emailed me back. I ended up purchasing the Metra Axxess instead. With this unit, the speakers actually function as they should, the speaker fade works, dimming is possible, last but not least there is a System Remote Control (blue) wire to hook the amp to. This finally resolved the issue with the sound sometimes not coming on with startup. The Metra costs more because the steering wheel controls are separate but boy is it worth it. It actually fun

Pros: Nothing, it's garbage

Used to install a new Pioneer DVD receiver in a 2004 Suburban with the factory RSE. This module does exactly what it is supposed to do. Instructions are easy to follow and everything just works. Used the RCA connections from the kit to hook up the audio from the factory DVD player to the new radio. My only wish is the wires were a little longer between the new deck and the interface box so I would have had a few more options for where to mount everything. It's a tight fit behind the deck, but I got it in and am very happy.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Ordered this interface to use with Pioneer AVH-2800BS DVD receiver mainly because I wanted to retain the RSE for my kids. I have a 2005 Yukon XL with Bose system. First unit I received was defective. As soon as I plugged the interface harness into the vehicle harness(with key turned off), I heard a constant rapid clicking sound....like a bad blinker switch. Receiver would not turn on at all when key was turned. After consulting a Crutchfield's customer service rep, I found out this was a relay and that it was defective and shipped me a new interface. The second unit seems to working just fine so far. The RSE works just like it did before. The kids can watch their dvd's with headphones on or we can listen to it over the speaker system(Interface harness has RCA audio connectors that plug into back of head unit). The factory amplifier and subwoofer still work, and sound amazing now with the new head unit. Steering wheel controls still work pretty much the same as before right out of the box, or they can be programmed however you like. Connecting wires was simple, and the instructions are pretty clear. Once the interface is put together and connected to the receiver harness, the box and large mess of wires is hard to fit inside the dash. The chime sound could be better.

Pros: Retains RSE(headphones and speaker system); Retains factory amp and subwoofer; Retains steering wheel controls and OnStar; Easy connections and set-up.

Cons: 1st unit was defective and had to be replaced-raises concern for future quality issues; takes up a lot of space and is difficult to fit inside of dash even after removing support; chime sound isn't very good

I would literally not have been able to install my new stereo without this. Kept all of the existing steering wheel controls, chimes, and Onstar functionality in my 2008 Corvette with no headaches.

Pros: Very easy to install. Instructions for the most part were very easy and in almost all cases the color of the wires directly corresponded to my Pioneer system. Did not have to program it as it was already programmed. Simple dial adjustment for stereo manufacturer.

Cons: Instructions do not adequately document the use of the brown "mute loop" wire. Called Crutchfield support and they quickly gave me the correct information I needed.

Pros: Made all the factory controls work like with the factory radio

Cons: Takes up lots of room in dash behind radio unit.

The box is pretty big especially fitting in the under the dash. Plugging into the box is difficult and sometimes feels you might break something trying to push it in.

The wiring matrix from my GM to the Kenwood was flawless and reprogramming the steering controls was a breeze. I soldered all the connections using the PAC and Kenwood diagrams and everything worked perfect when I connected it.

Pros:

Cons: My truck has OnStar, so it would be nice to be able to program the OnStar button to work with the head unit. Also would be cool to be able to use the OnStar microphone. There is one issue. When turning on the stereo, I have to push the OnStar speak button on and off to get the sound coming out through the speakers.

2006 Chevrolet TrailBlazer
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

First, the installation instructions left a lot to be desired. Once the installation was complete, the steering controls still do not work properly. The stereo audio will only work if you push the On-star button "On" and then "Off", then the unit will power up and the sound comes on. I went to their website and it says to download a new program upgrade for the control unit. The download was a .puf file, whatever that is and the only way to open it was to go out on the internet and purchase a program that I would have to pay for to open and install it. I havent installed it yet, so I have no idea if its going to work or not.

Pros: None

Cons: Horrible instructions and doesn't work.

Crutchfield response on 8/10/2016 Jason, one of our Tech Support Specialists, reached out to Brent after researching his review and his order. He expressed to Brent that the likely culprit for the stereo turn-on issue is that the "amp remote" wire must be connected to the blue/white wire on the adapter he purchased. Also, he noted that PAC supplies a free download for the firmware updates for his adapter, and then he supplied a link to that tool. Jason also mentioned that Brent probably did not need this update for the successful installation of his radio. Lastly, Jason asked for the make and model of Brent's receiver, so that he could check compatibility of the steering wheel controls. Some radios are not compatible with steering wheel control interfaces, which is why it's helpful to check with an Advisor before you purchase car installation gear.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

After opening the box and realizing that it wasn't going to be a plug in type of installation, I started to get frustrated. But after making the connection to a technician and he walked me through it all, I found that it wasn't as difficult as I was originally thinking. The only hiccup that I had after that, was that I failed to make one connection that I was able to quickly find and then everything started working as it should. Crutchfield technicians know how to fix issues.

Pros: The interface that was recommended for me, did everything that I was told that it would do. EX: Retaining all of my steering wheel controls, factory chime, etc.

Cons: I had originally only requested the interface and all the necessary components to install a stereo system that was gifted to me. After the sales tech had put that all together in a shopping cart for me, I called back and wanted to add an XM behind the dash tuner. Somewhere in the mix of not talking to my original sales tech I was given the wrong XM unit and it had to be returned and replaced. The original unit had a rebate and the replacement unit does not. That was disappointing to me.

I was very happy on how quick it allowed me to connect an aftermarket head unit in my 2005 Escalade EXT. However, I paid extra for this one to insure that my steering wheel controls would work, but they did not. I called tech support and the said it may not be compatible with my unit. I could have saved almost $30 if I would have went with the one without steering wheel controls.

Pros: very easy and quick to install

Cons: Steering wheel controls did not work with my head unit.

Crutchfield response on 8/9/2016 After researching David's review, our Tech Support Specialist confirmed that this steering wheel control interface was incompatible with his stereo and issued him a refund. The steering wheel interfaces we sell work with the majority of car stereos we sell; however, we don't always have information on stereos we don't carry. It's a good idea to check the manual for the interface you're considering or contact one of our Advisors to make sure.

Installed this about two weeks ago. I bought this unit to replace another interface( different company) that would work when it wanted to. So far works great. Have all of my steering wheel controls, buzzers, etc. Time will tell if this is a good product. Instructions are a little fuzzy, but if you have installed systems in the past, just use a little common sense and everything will connect properly. I probably would buy this again if I was in the same situation.

Pros: small size; wiring is of good length;

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I used to be an installer (before they offered vehicle-specific wiring harnesses), and this is the first time I installed an interface like this. It was just as easy as the passive wiring harness used in a typical install. Match up the wire, most if which were color to color, and plug it all in. It doesn't get any easier than this. I did have a small issue with understanding the instructions... Ultimately, when you are wiring this to a Bose system with factory amplifiers, you DO wire the speaker wire connections even though the harness has an RCA connection (that is for RSE input). The instructions just weren't 100% clear on that. It wasn't a deal-breaker though. I would buy this interface again.

Pros: Works great! Affordable! Easy to Install

Cons: Instructions could be a little more clear when wiring to an OEM amplified system, but this is a very minor gripe, not a deal breaker.

Before purchasing this product so that I could keep my factory chime, OnStar, rear entertainment, and steering wheel controls, I read up about it and even read the installation instructions. I have to say that I was a bit nervous as the instructions seemed vague at points. However, after having this in hand, all of the items made much more sense. This PAC controller is now installed and works perfectly. My cautions to any who consider purchasing this are as follows: 1) the wiring harness connectors that clip into the blue PAC controller are quite difficult to get seated all the way. Make sure they are plugged in completely before putting your dash back together. I initially put my dash back together only to have issue with my head unit a day later. It turned out that one of my PAC controller wiring harness connectors was not completely clipped in and had wiggled out from road vibrations. 2) After solving issue 1 above, I had to take my unit out a second time. This time was because the DVD player. Turned out to be a wiring issue, but not due to negligence on my part. I looked on the PAC website and noticed that they had updated the wiring colors for the harness that goes to the head unit. However, the PAC controller I received had the previous version instructions which resulted in my wires being

Pros: works great

Two points - For what I considered to be a pretty expensive connection kit, I was bothered by the fact that I still had to sort out the individual wires in two wiring harnesses and use butt connectors to connect all the wires together. The physical size of the PAC box itself made getting the radio back into the dash very difficult. I was not going to cut metal struts inside the dash to get it in, but I thought I was going to have to return everything to keep from doing that.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Used this interface to install a Kenwood DDX373 double din in my '03 Silverado 1500HD and it is a huge time saver. Everything is plug-and-play basically. My advisor, Buck, advised me to get some of these connectors: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_669PP500/Posi-Products-Car-Stereo-Connectors.html?tp=61469 and those worked real well to connect the interface to the Kenwwod receiver. There are a lot of wires when you open the box, but don't sweat it. On my Kenwood, every wire coming out of the receiver had a matching wire on the interface. It was just a matter of stripping and connecting. The only thing I wasn't sure of, was the reverse camera power lead as I installed a backup camera at the same time. On the PAC unit, there were three wires separate from the rest that were labeled for Nav. My Kenwood doesn't have navigation so it wasn't clear that the green wire bundled in the Nav label was to connect to the purple/white wire on the Kenwood. The door chime is a little different from the stock Chevy chime, but you can control the volume by turning a dial on the interface. My Kenwood indicated that I wouldn't have to cut the dash support in the back of the double din opening, but I ended up having to anyway just to fit all the wires and the PAC unit in the back. Once that was out there is plenty of room to slide everything in. All vehicle functions were retained such as OnStar, steering wheel controls, etc. Works great and highly recommended.

Pros: saves time, easy to install, works, wiring diagram easy to decipher

This kit along with my Kenwood DPX592 head unit works flawlessly with the Bose system in my '05 tahoe. The only thing it doesn't tell you is that the blue and white power antenna wire, is also the wire for the amplifier in the chevy/bose system...just tie it to the corresponding colored wire on the head unit. The only negative thing about this unit is the sound of the chime just doesn't seem right. I may go back in and unplug it completely, the lowest volume setting is plenty enough too.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

You could spend the better part of a day hacking up your wiring harness, chasing wires, and then splicing them all and STILL not have all the factory bells and whistles you had prior to the install. Literally bells and whistles. If you have a factory amp like a Bose or Monsoon, this is a life saver. Without it you'll either have a really loud system that will eventually blow speakers or you'll have to spend even more time splicing wires to remove the factory amp. The better option is to uncork some money from your wallet, buy this interface and retain all of your factory options and safety features. Your time is worth something, so don't waste it when this can be installed in a few minutes.

Pros: Easy to install. Retains factory options and works with factory amps. Allows you to return to stock configuration pretty easily if you ever want to save your equipment when you get rid of the vehicle.

Cons: Takes up some space inside the dash...can be a pain to stuff behind your head unit.

2006 GMC Sierra 2500/3500
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I used this in my 06 GMC Sierra with a factory Bose system, steering wheel controls and OnStar. I wasn't concerned about retaining OnStar, but the steering wheels controls and Bose amp are what I wanted to keep and this retains all three. The module installation is really straight forward and the directions are clear and concise. Basically, you match the wires from the module to the new stereo harness by color and set the module to the manufacturer of the head unit and that was it. The module plugs into the factory plugs in the dash with no issue. Some people have stated that they needed to program the module for the steering wheel controls, but I didn't have to so I can't comment on the difficulty in doing that. It's only been a few days, but so far so good and honestly, the hardest part was trying to fit all the wiring behind the head unit in the dash. I'm very pleased with this and would highly recommend it.

Pros: Ease of installation and it does why it's meant to do

Cons: None yet.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I like that it was easy to hook up and the directions were pretty easy to understand but the device seems to be made cheaply. I actually had to get a replacement because the first one only lasted for 2 days. I contacted crutchfield and they shipped one out very quickly. I determined that the first one was bad because the door chimes didnt work and the stereo would randomly switch between all the inputs (reverse/bluetooth/radio) and there was no audio.

Pros: easy to hook up and does what its advertised.

Cons: Made cheap and has a high price tag. The door chimes sound very cheap(like a Ford). takes up a lot of space making it hard to get a double din back into the dash. if you dont have a lot of room this may not work for you.

This was for my 05 Avalanche and works like it should. There is a lot of stuff to cram in that small space and still fit the radio. The last time I did any stereo work on a vehicle I only had to hook up 12 wires including the 8 speaker wires so I was a little apprehensive about trying this especially when I saw all of the stuff with this kit. 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed in a 03 Silverado and it works as advertised. Retained functionality of all factory steering wheel buttons and it makes the install "almost" plug and play. The basic receiver wires do have to be spliced (one for one) into the GM11 unit connector but with minimal wiring skills this is not tough. It is the heart of the install so take your time, do it right and it will do what it claims and likely last as long as you own it.

Pros: Allows for OEM functionality of steering wheel controls and minimizes wire splicing.

Cons: If I have to list a con, it would be the shear bulk of it all. In my case, room behind the receiver was limited and getting all the wiring tucked back into the dash was a bit of a challenge. Still, WAY more of a benefit than this small issue.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this interface along with my Kenwood Excelon DDX492. The first unit I received was defective- the steering wheel controls would not work. After thorough testing with Justin in Tech Support (who was an excellent help), we found that the interface itself (blue box) was not sending any signals. Justin quickly shipped a new unit my way, and I swapped the interfaces out. The new interface works just fine, and sounds great. My only (minor) complaints are that the chime module is very annoying and cheap sounding, and the steering wheel controls are not as responsive as they were when my factory unit was installed. However, the chime module ships with the volume cranked, and can be turned down. The change in responsiveness isn't a huge deal, just something I noticed.

Pros: Crutchfield tech support and customer service!

Cons: Chime is annoying, and steering wheel controls aren't as responsive as they were with the factory stereo.

The product itself seams to work OK but the instructions with the unit are terrible with little to no help online. Typically that is not a problem with Crutchfield because their experienced technicians put together great instructions to help guide the customer. So this all worked for our steering wheel, programming was easy, and everything works. I have no experience with stereos or their installation...this was a surprise for my husband and I did the installation (Bad idea? Maybe). So...I didn't realize I would have to strip and join all the wires, I thought it would just be plugging things in. I appreciated that there was a "key" in the instructions that defined each color wire, thanks to this I knew that some didn't need to be dealt with. So that was interesting. But if I can do it, and everything works, then I say this deserves 5 stars!

Pros: Everything works, love the steering wheel set up.

Cons: Stripping and joining wires wasn't expected, but maybe that's normal. (I wouldn't know.)
