Great idea and works well most of the time, but sometimes it will do something other than what I'm doing with the steering wheel controlls. The most common is I go to turn the volume up and it goes down or I go to turn the volume down and it changes the input. It's lightly frustrating at times but for the most part works well.

2009 Cadillac Escalade - update wiring interface
David from Bradenton, FL on 4/11/2023
When I recently purchased my 2009 Cadillac Escalade it had an aftermarket radio and an Axxess GMOS-LAN-02 interface in it. I changed out the radio to a Dual XDCPA11BT that I had in a previous car but the steering wheel controls, fader and subwoofer did not work. I removed the Axxess interface and installed a PAC RP5-GM31 wiring interface after discussing the install with my Crutchfield advisor. He could not guarantee that it would work since the Dual radio I had was not in the Crutchfield database, but he said I could return the PAC interface for a full refund if it did not work. This gave me the confidence to move ahead with the purchase. The install went smoothly and the steering wheel controls now work, the fader works both front to back and side to side, and the subwoofer works. Since this is an older GM car the Onstar radio is obsolete but the PAC interface, with a simple pushes of the programming button, disables the in-car bluetooth and Onstar access to the steering wheel buttons.
Pros: Easy Install All advertised functions work as described

Late vehicle stereo upgrade must have
Daniel from Stockton, CA on 2/26/2023
2008 Saturn VUE
Used this interface harness when I upgraded the wife's cars dated / worn stereo unit. It made the install very easy and retained all the cars OG functions.. like SWCs. I recommend for and later vehicles as they have many different features that most will not want to lose.
Pros: Makes stereo upgrade/ swap easy and retains Cars features that share/ use the stereo.
Cons: Instructions are not very clear. Ex. In the instructions for The one harness that connects the interface box to the head units harness it instructs to wire the red, yellow and ground wires together. those wires are not on the interfaces harness mentioned. They are actually on the harness that contains an RCA for video. Other than this.. works great~

Joseph from APO, AE on 2/5/2023

It works and does everything it says it should. The chime is terrible though. You'd think an aftermarket unit would have a modern chime or even era specific for the vehicle it is designed for. The chime from this module sounds like it is screeching, and there is no way to change the tone.
Pros: SWC, Integration (Plugs directly into vehicle)
Cons: Chime tone

Great product, instructions could be better.
Wayne from Harleysville, PA on 1/1/2023
2009 GMC Sierra
I just installed the RP5-GM31 in a 2009 Sierra 2500HD. My wife bought it along with a Kenwood DNX577s receiver. She spoke to an advisor who did a great job helping her through the process. They suggested this combo with a custom wiring harness. So far it's been great with one simple and silly thing. My truck had Bluetooth. My phone was paired to the truck. When testing an incoming call, I would pick up the call and the stereo would shut off and the call wouldn't come through the stereo, it came through the truck Bluetooth. I had to turn the truck off and back on to get the stereo to power back on. I tried a number of things including trying to reprogram the steering wheel controls. All that did was mess up the controls. The instructions from PAC Audio that deal with reprogramming the functions couldn't be more cryptic. Finally I found a YouTube video of a guy installing the same RP5-GM31 in a 2011 Silverado (close match to mine) and during his video he mentioned the same thing. Unpair the phone from the truck - bingo. I didn't see this in the instructions or on PAC Audio's site. I would give the controller a 5 star rating if the instructions and troubleshooting were more clearly outlined. I'm happy to change the rating if someone shows me where I went wrong or what I missed in the instructions otherwise I suggest making this more obvious. You have a great combination of products that work well together.
Pros: Custom wiring was plug and play No-cut installation in my truck
Cons: The chime sounds cheap The instructions from PAC Audio were not clear

Great except antenna adapter
Micajah V from WASHINGTON, NC on 11/25/2022
2007 Chevrolet Tahoe
This would've gotten 5 stars if the delivered antenna adapter had worked as flawlessly as the original antenna. After installing my new stereo, I lost the ability to pick up a lot of my previous local or distant radio stations. Since I was able to pick up a few stations before the install, I knew the factory antenna was working ok. I live in a remote area so I wasn't expecting to get a LOT of stations - but I wanted to at least dial in the 4-5 I had prior to the install. Crutchfield Advisor Chuck worked with me and determined that the antenna adapter sent with the radio installation was either incorrect OR it was a bad one. Regardless, he sent over (free! mind you) a different antenna adapter and WOW. Not only could I pick my previous stations, but I was able to add about 8 more! Very happy with my several installations from Crutchfield. Its customer service has always been top notch. Thanks Chuck and Crutchfield!
Pros: Supremely easy to connect new radio with existing wiring After purchase support has been great
Cons: Delivered antenna adapter was either broken or wrong one. Crutchfield advisor Chuck got me straightened out though.

Works, but confusing install, chime wire too short
William from La Mesa, NM on 9/28/2022
2013 Chevrolet Silverado 2500/3500
First, once I got everything figured out, it worked perfectly and all steering wheel controls worked. Instructions said I should check for firmware updates, and it directed me to download software for the update. Okay, did that only to find that the software was only good for another model, and no way to find the software to update for this version. Suggest a link to wherever the correct software is. Bottom line: everything worked as is, so firmware update apparently not needed for me (2013 Silverado HD LTZ), but YMMV. Also no guidance on where or how to mount the thing, but had space behind the new head unit, so a couple of #6 screws did the trick. My only real beef if that the wire to the chime unit was too short to reach outside of the dash, so there was no way to put it in the recommended location without splicing in an extension. Decided to turn it to max volume and mount below the radio, but that makes it pretty quiet. I may end up splicing in an extension after I drive with it some.
Pros: Steering wheel controls worked perfectly
Cons: Chime unit wire is too short. Instructions for updating firmware are misleading.

Merrick from Yankton, SD on 9/14/2022
Small package means wires out all sides, which could be a problem in some installations. Worked perfectly for me though as there was a space behind the head unit to tuck it nicely. Pros: Retains factory functions
Cons: Could be hard to fit in some installations

MUST HAVE in my case. Trading factory for aftermarket, you lose a lot of features, including chimes and OnStar. With this interface, you get them all back and then some... Between Crutchfield and manufacturer's instructions, wiring all my different harnesses together was pretty straightforward and easy. I was able to get everything connected and neatly wrapped before ever taking it to the car to install. **TIP** Remember to leave the REMOTE POWER (Blue) wire exposed so you can connect it to the wire for the amp. That is the only wiring I did IN the car was connecting the Remote wire from the amp which was previously installed. I connected the harness wires together on one side of a butt connector. I left this butt connector exposed while wrapping everything else. When installing the interface, put the wire from the amp into the other side of the butt connector and crimp. All other connections are just unplug the old and plug in the new.

Have a Sierra 2500 with factory Nav and Bose sound system. Instructions are not clear on what you won't be using from the existing connections but figured it out with some research (brown VSS connection and factory Nav Antenna connection will remain disconnected on final install) Otherwise it retained all functionality of the steering controls and such. I just wish you could program the chime more directly (i.e. remove seatbelt warning chime). Note that not all wires are used depending on your vehicle.
Pros: retains all factory controls
Cons: future upgrades require separate cable and pc connection. Pretty big to shove into the cavity.

it works as it should, now. It was very frustrating to install this with my new radio to find out the radio would not turn on. This unit was powering on but the radio did not power up at all. After spending a couple hours checking the wiring and power at all connections, I found that the relay on the switched power lead was not working. I had to cut it out and after that, everything is working as it should now.
Pros: I was able to keep my chimes and turn signals. I will also be using it for SWC once I install the controller on the steering wheel.
Cons: I was not happy that it arrived all wired up for my car and it would not power up my head unit without. If it doesn't power up your unit when you first plug it in, check the red lead for the switched power.

Works well, but requires wiring modification to deliver full power!
Jay M from Hereford, TX on 3/21/2022
I installed this unit with a Sony XAV-AX5500 in my 2010 GMC Sierra 1500 Crew Cab, no Bose. If you are using the PAC RP5-GM31 interface, this head unit will shut off at around 38/50 volume level. It's because the PAC module doesn't have enough power to feed the head unit and all the door speakers. I fixed this by connecting the front passenger, and both rear door speaker wires, (green, purple, and gray, both + and -, so 6 wires total) from the PAC harness going to the vehicle, directly to the PAC harness going to the head unit. This bypasses the PAC module for those 3 speakers and reduces the power demand on the PAC module. Everything works perfect up to 100% volume after this fix. You must leave the front driver door speaker (white) wires going through the PAC module to retain OnStar functionality. If you do the Crutchfield ready harness service, you could probably ask them to do this modification for you, as it is something that they should be doing already. This is a fix that has been published b PAC themselves, and is a well known solution for this well known issue. PAC should fix the design of this module so that the installer doesn't have to modify the wiring. There is no need for all of the door speaker wires to travel through the PAC, it just overloads the PAC with too much power demand. Either that or they could upgrade the power handling capability of the module itself instead. Crutchfield should have implemented this fix into their ready h
Pros: Works well
Cons: Requires wiring modification to function at above 75% head unit volume, even when using Crutchfield ready harness service.

Doesn't work for my truck
Daniel from Portland, OR on 2/28/2022
2013 Chevrolet Silverado 2500/3500
I had Crutchfield assemble the module/adapter harness so the install would be plug and play. After I got everything installed and adjusted OnStar volume everything seemed ok but about 30min later all my dash lights got bright and I wasn't able to dim anything. I found a blown fuse and when I replaced it the dimmer function was working again but sure enough 15min later everything went bright and the same fuse was blown. I took my truck and all the boxes/paperwork for the adapter to a local stereo installer and I was told that adapter wasn't the right one for my truck. Since I wasn't happy with my new head unit anyways I had them sell me a new stereo along with the correct interface module. I installed everything as instructed and haven't had a issue since.
Pros: Learning experience.
Cons: Time loss, money loss.

Good product for the most part. I have used PAC products many times and this is no different. They get really close to perfect but something always doesn't work. In this case it did not provide a signal to the reverse input on radio for the backup camera. I had to wire it to the BCM directly. Other wise everything seems to be good on this one!
Pros: Provides ignition source, steering wheel controls etc.
Cons: Reverse input didn't work, had to hardwire to BCM

The PAC RP5-GM31 works with my steering wheel controls, but not all of them. My side arrow, and the call end buttons does not work. I tried tech support and they did a really good job at trying different settings to get them to work, but we never could. Giving it a 3 star because I paid for this to completely work and it does not.

Cons: Doesn't give me complete use of all my steering wheel controls. No options of chime sounds.

Great option for preserving all the factory features I use and love. The steering rear controls and rear radio controls all work great. I don't use On Star or XM, so I was able to custom program those buttons for other features. (Note: You will lose any USB port that is external to the main unit, but most radios these days provide their own anyway). The only thing I could suggest might be improved was if the device was a little smaller. I had quite the time squeezing this into the dashboard with all the wiring attached to it. Also, the first interface I received did not work the radio tuning, track, or source. For those of you reporting problems with this, it only took a brief support call with an excellent Crutchfield customer service representative to get a fully functioning replacement shipped to me in no time. I highly recommend this interface and Crutchfield!
Pros: Easy custom programming, keeps factory features working.
Cons: A little large for today's tight dash spaces.

Overall, this maintained virtually all factory features for my vehicle including steering wheel controls. The only thing it doesn't maintain is the factory microphone - this is not a big deal as most stereo units come with a microphone. The blinkers are too quiet in my opinion. With music off or low, there's no issue. If you're listening to music at a decent volume, the blinkers are a bit hard to hear.
