What's in the Box:

  • SDB-6.1 speaker selector for six pairs of speakers

This is a great unit, but I wouldn't use them in setup that needs a lot of watts. Great for a lower powered setup.

They cheaped out on the connections on the back

Patrick from Buena Park, CA on 4/4/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It works as advertised but the connections on the back for the speaker and receiver wires are really narrow, cheaply made and not as easy to hook up as they should be. For the price, I would've expected they put a little more effort and quality in here. Large speaker cable won't fit; you'll need to tapper it down. The connection boxes are made of cheap plastic and wobble around when you're working with them. The tiny recessed screws could've been just about any other design, like those I've got on other cheaper components - and I would've been happier.

Pros: It works

Cons: Bad/cheap design where you wire into

Easy to use

Don from Pelham, AL on 1/24/2017

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Works as expected - no problems.

Pros: I got this to control speakers in a house that already had 5 rooms with speaker wiring but had used an old Denon with only two (A/B) speaker options. This controls each room individually. Easy to set up. Good tech support from Russound. Seems well made. I like the room labels that come with it so you can identify the six speaker sets.

Cons: Have not used much yet, but do not see any issues.

Complete Control, Nice...

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

If you want to run various sets of speakers throughout your home this is a nice way to get it done. With the volume control for each set of speakers you have the ability to adjust the volume for both the size of speakers and the space they are in. The source A and B solved the problem of using the same set of speakers for different functions; i.e. theatre and music playing.

Pros: Simple and easy to use. Volume control for each set of speakers is a huge benefit. Source A & B gives your setup some added options.

Cons: Price.

Overview: The Russound SDB Dual Source Speaker Selector is a high-power, dual-source, autoformer-based speaker selector with individual volume controls for 6 rooms or areas. Dual-source operation allows you to choose either one or two different amplifiers or receivers to power selected speakers independently. Each room has its own input selector (A-B), volume control, and on/off switch, located on the front of the unit. The unit works with all speakers rated from 4-8 ohms and amplifiers rated for 4-8 ohms.

Controls: The SDB-6.1 has the following front panel controls:

  • Volume Control: six rotary volume controls, each with a 12-step adjustment.
  • On/Off Switch: six 2-position push button switches (Out=Off, In=On)
  • Amplifier Selector: six 2-position push button switches (Out=Amp A, In=Amp B)

Removable Speaker Terminals: There are six removable 4-pole speaker output terminal blocks and two removable 4-pole speaker input terminal blocks, each of which can accept up to 12-gauge wire. The terminals can support multiple speaker pairs wired in parallel or series, provided their combined impedance is a minimum of 4 ohms. A small slotted screwdriver is required for attaching the terminals to your speaker wires.

Impedance Setting: The impedance of the autoformers is set at the factory at 8x. A chart in the Installation Manual can help you determine the proper impedance setting for the number and impedance of your speakers. If certain applications require changing the impedance setting, the cover can be removed to access the jumpers inside.

Labels: There are 52 pre-printed and 8 blank label stickers included for easy identification of the front panel controls.

  • Power Handling:

  • Impedance Matching: Russound Ultra-Match Autoformers

Technically, yes it can be used with that Yamaha receiver, but with a shortened life on the Yamaha for most listener's. I recommend consulting an advisor by using our online chat or calling 1-800-324-9695 for a personal recommendation on a way to run your 6 pairs of speakers for your listening goals My Bio: [ Paul  Apr 16, 2018 ]  Staff
The Russound SDB-6.1 is rated to handle up to 150 watts per channel RMS from a connected amplifier/receiver; but the "ideal" power for your setup will also depend on your speakers and their power requirements. If you would like to discuss in further detail, please feel free to contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. [ Larry  Apr 11, 2017 ]  Staff
I actually had 14 speakers and i just paired 3 speakers rather than 2 speakers on two of the six jacks. Works fine. I can not tell the difference between them and the others which have 2 speakers per jack. But to answe your question i would not get two different speaker selectors. I would get the 10 pair and if you didnt want to do that i would get a 6 pair and just put 3 speakera on each jack. I hope this makes sense. [ Joshua  Mar 14, 2017 ]
I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: It will divide the 100 watts to the 6 speakers. You wouldn't be receiver 100 watts to each of the speakers. The speakers would be getting around 15-20 watts. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. [ Krissy  Jul 05, 2015 ]  Staff
