About the Russound X1-TX8

Go wireless with just about any audio source

Multi-room audio systems don't have to mean running wires through walls. Russound's X1 wireless audio system lets you send music from up to four audio sources in a central location to as many rooms as you'd like, without running wires. The X1-TX8 wirelessly transmits signals from up to four audio sources of your choice. Pair it with one or more compatible Russound X1 receivers — choose from the X1-RX2 or the amplified X1-RX220 — to add music to a bedroom, kitchen, patio, and porch.

Multi-room audio systems don't have to mean running wires through walls. Russound's X1 wireless audio system lets you send music from up to four audio sources in a central location to as many rooms as you'd like, without running wires. Pair it with one or more compatible Russound X1 receivers — choose from the X1-RX2 or the amplified X1-RX220 — to add music to a bedroom, kitchen, patio, and porch.

This transmitter features four stereo RCA line-level inputs — great for connecting Zone 2 or 3 preamp outputs from a home theater receiver. If your receiver has multichannel preamp outputs, you could also use this transmitter to send audio signals wirelessly to your surround speakers instead of running wires to rear of the room. (Remember, in either of these cases, you'll need a separate amplifier to power your speakers.) The fourth of these RCA inputs can be A/B switched with the optical digital input for direct connection of a digital source like a digital media streaming box or network music player.

The X1 system operates on multiple wireless bands for noise-free performance. It doesn't require a connection to your Wi-Fi® home network and can switch between bands automatically to limit interference from other wireless activity.

Product Research

Features

Multichannel Wireless Transmitter: The Russound X1-TX8 is a four zone wireless audio transmitter that is part of Russound's X1 professional wireless audio platform. With the required wireless receivers (X1-RX2 or X1-RX220, sold separately), the X1 system is ideal for distributed audio systems and any retrofit applications where installing speaker wire is labor intensive and cost prohibitive.  There's no limit to the number of receivers (X1-RX2 or X1-RX220, sold separately) that can be wirelessly connected to each zone, providing plenty of opportunity to expand your system.

Triple Wireless Bands: Russound's X1 professional wireless audio system operates over three bands - 2.4GHz, 5.2GHz and 5.8GHz - featuring Channel Hopping mode or Fixed Channel mode. The Channel Hopping mode will combat crowded spaces by searching for the cleanest channel within the band. Although the X1 wireless system uses bands that are in the WiFi spectrum, the proprietary digital signal transmitted is not used in the WiFi system. This provides a more reliable connection with very low latency between the original source signal and the output receiver, eliminating any echo effect.

Note: The 2.4GHz operates better through walls than the higher frequency. However, this band is widely used in many systems including WiFi. If the band is crowded interference may occur. The 5.2GHz and 5.8GHz bands do not go through walls at the same distance as the lower bands. However, they will have less interference.

Adjustable Diversity Antennas: The X1-TX8 wireless transmitter features two adjustable diversity antennas to optimize performance. These external antennas are used to increase signal range. The two antennas should be in vertical and parallel position for maximum performance.

Analog & Digital Inputs: X1-TX8 features four stereo inputs (three line-level RCA and one selectable between line-in RCA or optical digital) to connect your home audio components.

Metal Chassis: The wireless transmitter's metal enclosure provides increased EMI resistance and better wireless performance. For best performance, locate the receiver in locations that is not surrounded by other metal or other equipment that may interfere with transmission.

AC Power Adapter: The Russound X1-TX8 wireless transmitter operates off of standard household current using the supplied external AC power adapter (input: 100-240V~50/60Hz, 0.5A; output: 5.0V-1.2A

Customer Q&A

A
Forgot to run wire. [ Roland  Feb 01, 2017 ]

From discussion (chat) with ABE, needed to get CD and open reel music from across room, cable wasn't an option [ Doctor Dave  Jan 08, 2017 ]

Q
Can the Russound X1-TX8 transmit more than one audio source simultaneously? (For example, could the X1-TX8 transmit source 1 on channel 4 to my X1-RX2 in room A AND transmit sources 2 on channel 6 to my X1-RX2 in room B?)

Yes, this system CAN transmit up to 4 sources simultanously. From their manual: Simultaneously transmits 4 separate wireless audio zones, sources. That means 4 different stereo pair sources, being transmitted to 4 different receivers. Basically, from the 9 channel id's (frequencies 1 through 9) the system uses, you have the ability to set the channel (1,2,3 or 4) which is essentially the source.

A
No it can't in my experience. If it is capable it isn't stated in the manual.

The sound is transmitted in two channel pairs. The rf signal has to reach each receiver. Each receiver produces two the signal which need amplification + speaker or active speaker.

You can do what you are looking to do, but it would require two transmitters and two receivers. Not possible to do what you wish with a single transmitter.
[ Gene  Sep 27, 2016 ]
A
I don't think so :) There is no way to configure it to provide transmission on different frequencies .. leave alone two different sources.

Q
Hi, Does anyone know if this device works with what is called "Hi-Def" audio? Does it run 192kHz files? If not, what are it's limitations on sampling? Does it compress audio?

Russound is "lite" on the specs related to your questions, but I can at least share what I've learned from my experience with the product. I assume that you are using an optical cable at least to your X1-TX8 transmitter. Otherwise, bit rates become less relevant since your PC sound system will convert the beautiful 192 KHz stream to analog. I am using an optical cable from my PC to the transmitter, and from my experiments the unit handles all data speeds up to and including 96 Kbps (16 and 24 bit at 44.1, 48, and 96 KHz). 192 KHz at either 16 or 24 bits was a no-go for me. That said, I felt that the quality of audio I achieved at 96 KHz was very good... maybe not as good as you are looking for, however. Again, this is based on my experience. You may want to give Russound a call and ask them directly about what you're wanting to accomplish.
