DSR1 OEM Plug and Play Option
Bryan from South Lyon, MI on 2/22/2023
DSR1 is way underrated. This option gives you a DSP and with maestro harness integrates into factor harness without cutting factory wiring. I am using this product for a second time in a new Mustang that I recently purchased. Best money you will spend and it is plug and play with your factory wiring. It also gives you app on your phone to tune DS1 or DSP without having to be a professional stereo shop or having a degree in DSP to understand. Highly recommended for DYI with basic stereo knowledge. If you don't know, just call Crutchfield product specialist or tech support. They are the best period. Not just sales people. Don't spend 1800.00 on 8 channel amp. Did my mustang with DSP, 5 channel & 4 channel amp, infinity replacement speakers, JL tweeters, re wired OEM sub plus materials, wiring, sound mat for around 1500.00 and it's all you need unless your doing competitive sound and then the professionals stereo guys can take care of you.
Pros: All you need
Cons: Not fancy DSP but works just as good

Upgrade to stock system in 2014 Highlander
Michael from Layton, UT on 2/20/2023
2014 Toyota Highlander
This gem was just the trick for upgrading the stock head unit in my 2014 Toyota Highlander. Allowed for the addition of 2 amps powering 4 Kicker speakers and 1 Kicker sub. Bluetooth connection made tuning perfect with the app. Extra pre outs ready if I ever decide to add additional sub or third row speakers.
Pros: Easy install with the iDatalink Maestro harness. Simple programming for optimal power and sound performance. Compact enough to mount on the center column with access to the data port for future updates.
Cons: My Toyota Highlander is not yet in the data base for flashing vehicle specific programing. I'm hoping that comes out down the road. The generic flash seems to work well but, is more limited.

2019 Chrysler 300
I bought my DSR1 used a year ago. It took a while before I got it installed professionally. After getting it installed. I road with it based on the installers configuration. He did a good job, but didn't set it up the way I wanted. I have 2019 Chrysler 300s with Infinity Ref 3 1/2 in dash, 6 1/2 Kappa Perfect mid front doors, kappa perfect 3 way 6 x9 rear, and Kappa perfect 12. So I decide to pull my speaker specs and seating distance to set it up right. I had all kinds of issues with the unit. I lost sound a lot while setting it up. Once I finally got the setup the way I wanted my sub stopped playing and wouldn't come back on. I reached out to Crutchfield 2 times. After months of the DSR1 being out of stock. They replaced it for me under the factory warranty. I finally got it setup the way I wanted and let me tell you. This unit finally ended up being what I was looking. I had 3 amps running my setup 4 channel for the fronts, 2 channel for the rears, and mono. The sound is awesome for the money. It's made me question every other system I had previously and I will never setup a system again without a processor. When I listen to music now I feel like I am in the center of it. I listen to Rap, R&B, Jazz, Alternative, and some rock. I have setup infinity for over a decade now. They have always sounding amazing, but I didn't know the detail in my music until the processor. If you want to keep your car factory and setup a high end system the DSR1 is worth the time and money.
Pros: Sound quality is awesome, smart phone/tablet control, custom controls and preset. Bass knob not needed depending on your factory setup.
Cons: Not for a novice to setup. Recommend a professional or prior experience recommended. . Resistors had to used on my harness for the unit to work.

Thank you for the tech support and easy to install instructions. Everything in my truck works and sounds great. If this product doesn't work well for others, I would suggest an LOC and just rewire it without a harness.

Small package with a lot inside
Jeff from New Albany, OH on 10/27/2021
2008 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class
I purchased this instead of an old dial-style 4-way crossover box because of the EQ-ability, phase controls, and individual time alignment per channel to run my Alpine 3-way component set (SPX-17REF plus MC30) plus sub. Got it from a local car audio retailer and they recommended this. I simply mentioned that I was wanting a DSP but was going to have to settle for an old-school crossover box because I didn't have $600 plus to spend on a DSP. He showed me this bad boy for almost half the price. I'm VERY happy with my purchase. The ONLY gripe I have is that it only has 8 output channels and 4 input channels. I had no outputs for a rear amp and speakers nor a rear input so have fader control. RF didn't even make it so you could piggyback two together using the expansion port. That would have been really nice. I COULD buy a second to run my rears and just tune them individually and it would work for the time alignment as long as I use the true farthest speaker as the reference. I would like to do a 2-way bi-amped component set in the rear eventually. But as far as tunability, sound quality, ease of use, and reliability, this thing is AWESOME, especially for for the price!
Pros: Price, size, sound quality, tuning parameters, ease of use
Cons: No expandability and only 4 inputs/8 outputs.

This thing did not work AT ALL in my truck (2021 Ram 1500 with 12" screen, HK system, and technology package). It did nothing but cause problems with my other equipment, including blowing the powered sub I had at the time. Constantly lost Bluetooth connection, app/settings never worked; had to try to adjust EVERY time I turned the truck off and back on. Also disabled some features of the head unit, which can't be replaced (GPS search feature, safety alerts, etc.). Promptly returned it after about 4 days and replaced it with an Audio Control DQ-61 (awesome piece of equipment; fixed everything; highly recommend). Gave this piece of junk 1 star ONLY because I had to give it something to review it in order to warn others and hopefully save someone all the trouble and aggravation I, and obviously others, had. Crutchfield is still awesome though.
Pros: Nothing
Cons: Everything (at least in my truck)

DSR1 - professional level in a consumer package
Nate from Reno on 5/23/2021
The blue tooth connection issue people talk about is for real. However, I found that if I disconnect Bluetooth connection upon startup...then shut down the app. Then restart the app and manually connect the Bluetooth, I get a stable BT connection every time . The setup, updating software from Rockford Fosgate and fro iDataLink was a bit of a pain because the included instruction are wrong. Go to RF website and follow the updated sequence for the software updates. Once installed the DSR1 is amazing. The professional level detail in this consumer level product can be a huge learning curve. And to be honest, I do not want to know everything I learned. But it gives you tuning options you won't find in other products at this price point. Just be prepared to not have a clue what all the settings do. It's not the basic EQ we all are familiar with. And the ability to hit so many levels of EQ, specific to each channel is a rabbit hole you may never find your way out if. But alas, you can reset it to the base settings real easy and start again. I found the trim levels (again, 8 channels of trim, wow) to be the best way to deal with the tweeter attenuation rather than splicing in resistors. Before figuring out that setting my system sounded like crap and I did not know what to blame it on. I have had the DSR1 installed with the iDataLink meastro t harness in my 2020 ram 2500 with stock 8.5 inch head unit for almost a year (3 more weeks). It wa
Pros: Complete control of what signal goes to each speaker. Lots of cabling options from iDataLink . Ability to tap in speaker level if iDataLink does not work for you. Crutchfield customer service is there if you need it.
Cons: You need a thorough understanding of audio to be able to make all the adjustments work for you. Matching speaker ability to the signal going to that speaker can be a bit overwhelming for beginners. But I'm a beginner and I got through it so don't give up. Start with crossover, then trim to add balance, then EQ. No one tells you that.

Never Again!!! DO NOT BUY
Adam from Nolensville, TN on 4/12/2021
I have been an electrical engineer 20 years and an audio enthusiast for 30 years. I can honestly say this is the worst piece of equipment I've ever worked with. I would give it below 1 Star if I could. It is that bad. Where do I start... you have to flash it with 2 different programs, one of which only supports windows, the connections are sloppy, Bluetooth is extremely low power and unreliable (You often have to set settings over and over again/reconnect) it has low output power. Good luck getting ANY help from RF or Idatalink just a lot of finger pointing. I was super excited for this product but working with it has been one of the worst WEEKs of my life.
Pros: None
Cons: Low output signal Multiple programs required to flash Low Bluetooth signal Resets intermittently Does not retain settings Constantly connects and reconnects to ipad app Turn on lead is intermittent

Crutchfield customer from Blackstone, MA on 4/6/2021
2019 Ford F-150 XLT
This is a tough one to review. The DSR1 is a 5star product with 1 star support from developers. I downloaded the install instructions and followed them as laid out by Rockford and idata. Installed the Dsr1 and started to have problems . When tunning through the PerfectTune app it would sometimes crash the app , sometimes lose Bluetooth connection (and yes I downloaded the Bluetooth fix from idata ) Sometimes wouldn't let me upload or down load EQ setting .I Called idata they said talk to Rockford , Rockford said talk to idata . Finally called Crutchfield and talked to Todd he couldn't find any info for a fix , but we decided that I should try redownloading the software. And if that didn't work he would setup a return and replacement. This is why I only buy from Crutchfield. I disconnected all wiring harnesses from the DSR1 waited at least 15 seconds, reconnected the wiring harness this is what idata info instructions say to do to put the dsr1 back to factory settings . Then disconnect the harnesses and bring the dsr1 to my computer to redownload the software in THESE STEPS . 1st download the Bluetooth fix from idata 2nd downloaded the vehicle specific software, then close the idata web sight . 3rd go to the Rockford downloader ,downloaded and update the software to the newest version. reinstall the dsr1 via idata install instructions. Finally set up your configuration In the PerfectTune app . This is what fixed my issues . I hope this helps .
Pros: Very versatile, can eq , set level of each speaker separately ,
Cons: Little to no support from developers,

Fist, this is the definition of big thing, little package. It slams so many useful items in a small box. There are a lot of ways to deep edit your sound....when you can. If the Bluetooth setting of the unit was a big selling point, you would think they would figure out how Bluetooth works and keep a stable connection. The first time it happened to me mid tuning, I didn't know what to do, so I looked at the "directions" and couldn't believe it. 2 pages drawn by a 6 yo.for being a technical piece of equipment, you'd think they'd give you more info that a blender manual. I didn't even know to update it till I saw it online, that seems manual worthy.i hate when to Bluetooth goes out mid tweet and it pops all my speakers. I'm also not to sure about the tweeter output, I've blown 2 sets already. Having said all that, the learning curve it steep but not impossible, and you are not going to find that much computing power for that little of a price anywhere
Pros: It doesn't totally suck
Cons: But it totally sucks

Junk!
Michael from MOUNT JULIET, TN on 1/5/2021

This has been the most difficult piece of audio equipment I have ever had to deal with! There are no vehicles specific instructions and the instructions that are given are so vague. I bought this , the maestro t-harness along with complete amplifier and speakers for my son who was stationed in Korea as a project once he returned. We installed the speakers earlier in the year do to time restrictions and other mods done on his car. Today we decided to tackle the amp and the DSR1. After spending all day taking apart the interior of the car and installing the two components we power on the stereo to test everything and the DSR1 shuts off after about 2 minutes and never comes back on. It powers on when first connected to power and shuts back off after completion of status checks. I will rip out this piece of junk tomorrow and just replace the head unit as I have had the product for about 6 months before install and past return the return window. Stay away, do not buy!
Pros: Good idea to keep factory head unit if it worked.
Cons: Difficult to install Junk technology

Install was a lil hard, had to watch a video on you tube to do the actual install. Had to call tech support for a popping noise that began after all the install steps were taken. Had to do a a re wire, due to the amp turning on at the same moment the dsr was turned on, of which is a no no... by the way no install instructions were included. Steve from tech support was great and told me how to re wire the set up so that the dsr turns on first then the Rockford fosgate amp. Once completed the dsr performed very well. I am now able to adjust the sound quality. It does take time and errors to find the right set up for my stage 3 Rockford fosgate 6 speaker kit for my 19 HD ultra limited. Once tune in... Wow! It's awesome. At highway speeds I can listen to my tunes very clearly and crisp, and not flat like the HD stock speakers were. It's an expensive setup, but in my opinion well worth it. I was going to give it 3 stars for the undocumented re wire but Steve at tech support was awesome so that took it to 5 stars.
Pros: Once properly set up and wired, awesome music quality.
Cons: No install instructions, only system set up instructions. Had to re wire as per tech support.

Great DSP for the price
Will from Oklahoma City, OK on 10/11/2020
The features on the unit are great (I'm just using it as a stand-alone DSP - not using the maestro features). Make sure it's got enough channels for you. I've got a 3-way active + Sub. Works great for that but I'm all out of channels so it I wanted to add rear channels or a center channel to my current set-up I'd have to get a unit with more available channels. Again, the adjustability and features are fantastic. The downside is the Bluetooth connection - or lack thereof. Some days it will connect flawlessly to my iPhone - on others I have spend literally hours trying to keep a connection long enough to upload or download a tune (holding the phone 1 ft from the DSR1). You will have times where you are pulling your hair out fighting with the Bluetooth connection. That said, it can't be beat for the price. I will only switch to a different DSP if I decide I want more channels.
Pros: All features are great.
Cons: Bluetooth connectivity can be horrible at times.

2017 F350 Platinum SuperCrew, Sync 3 with Sony. Purchased this unit and the F02 vehicle specific harness. Installed with 4 prior-use speakers, 2 prior-use RF amps (4-channel and single), and so far still have the stock Sony 8" sub driven by the RF mono sub. I debated a lot between this and an AudioControl solution. This one seems like a no-brainer, but it does have mixed reviews, which is why I want to leave my own review. I received this unit, performed the software and firmware upgrades as directed, programmed it to be vehicle specific and installed it and the harness. This unit worked immediately and flawlessly. The App has worked with no issues - though I have been using the Bluetooth connection icon within the app as intended. Some people seem to have connectivity issues when they don't connect it using the big Bluetooth button on the main screen of the app. My unit is located on my back wall, and I never lost connectivity regardless of where my phone was inside the cab. I am very pleased with this unit, and as described it is very versatile and provides a ton of tunability. My only slowdown on this was the F02 harness asked me to vampire a yellow power wire onto the stock Sony sub power wire. I chose to instead de-pin the F02 harness on 1 pin on the specified connector, and move it to pin 5 to mate correctly withe the stock wiring. Thus I did have to "modify" the F02 harness to match the vehicle OEM wiring, but it was easy to do and saved me having to modify any
Pros: versatile inexpensive for what you get seamless integration with chimes, steering wheel ctrls For me the App works flawlessly No noise or any other audible issues It just works

I choose the PAC Audio ampro unit instead and it worked flawlessly. I give it a three because for the price it had some nice features, just didn't work well with my truck.

Good choice to integrate an upgraded sound system while utilizing the factory head unit. In my case it was the Sync 3 system.
Pros: Ease of installation
Cons: I wasn't impressed by the built in cross overs. I ended up running this into a much larger DSP that I was able to set my levels on every set of speakers

Overall this product seems too good to be true and it is. The app crashes while trying to tune your speakers, you have to download three different softwares on your windows specific computer to download updates, the DSR1 prompt volume only on my navigation is so quiet that I cannot hear it and it hasn't been addressed in any updates. I just recently moved my amp because I thought it was overheating and cutting the music off where I had it and but now it stays very cool so I know the reason for my music cutting out is the DSR1. After listening for longer than an hour or so the junk device cuts out as if it can't handle playing for long periods of time. I have to go in my trunk and unplug it to reboot . Not a good purchase at all. I can't figure out my other options. Maybe if I can get a replacement from Crutchfield then I will try this product again. I can deal with it's problems except for it cutting out after long periods of play since I have to drive a lot .
Pros: It isn't hard to get it synced to your ford vehicle. It's plug and play.
Cons: Too many

Fosgate DSR1-buyer beware
Shelly from Mesa, AZ on 2/23/2020
This device SUCKS!! My husband & I have owned 8 vehicles in the last 6 years & have used Fosgate amplifiers & speakers in all of our PROFESSIONALLY installed systems & have never had a single problem - until THIS piece of garbage came along, much to our expensive dissatisfaction!! This was a gift to me from my husband & it has been a disaster!! We have always used JL audio equalization components, which are significantly harder to program & use & have yet to have a single failure with ANY of those components, so we are no strangers to programming & using more complex systems than the DSR1. Programming is a NIGHTMARE & actually now IMPOSSIBLE because the 14,000 updates that were REQUIRED between the DSR1 & I-data link was so customer/professionally UNFRIENDLY that we (and our Nationally recognized professional installer) are completely disgusted & DONE with this module!! The Fosgate Rep said it works better on an I-Phone than Android (bull anyways)! We have spent $,$$$'s on the components, travel, time, etc and are now going to install a JL AUDIO TWK88. This in NO WAY reflects on Crutchfield's business, as they have always been a 5-star supplier with excellent customer service! Thank you Crutchfield, and SHAME ON ROCKFORD FOSGATE for producing and NOT supporting this piece of junk!!
Pros: NONE!!!!!!
Cons: every user appears to be a Beta-sight tester for this poorly designed interface component

Great Unit. Great Support.

2016 Jeep Renegade
My hat's off to IDatalink and Rockford Fosgate for teeming up to creative a great product AND for providing great support for it. I have a Jeep Renegade 75th Anniversary Edition. It has a very specific iteration of the Renegade stereo: Factory Amp and Beats Audio but no navigation on a 5-inch touch screen. I had issues with getting it up and running. I was able to send Rockford Fosgate a detailed email outlining my issues. Their engineers talked with the iDatalink engineers, and they decided it was an iDatalink issue. iDatalink actually found a Renegade like mine to bring into their facility so they could troubleshoot the issue! Who does that in this day and age? Shout out to Dara and her team for going 5 extra miles to support their product. Everything works as promised now. There could be better instructions included in the packaging, but I was able to navigate the steps: 1) Update the firmware on the DSR1. 2) Flash the iDatalink module. 3) Download the PerfectTune app. There are a couple good videos online that walk through using the PefectTune app, which is good because it has A LOT of functionality. The Bluetooth works great with my newer iPhone 8, but if I make adjustments too quickly with my older iPad Mini, it will lose connection. I can deal with those issues. The fact is that it allows me to bypass the crappy Beats Audio processing and use aftermarket amps. AND it gives me THIRTY-ONE band
Pros: GREAT functionality. Allowed me to keep my factory head unit. GREAT support.
Cons: Set up documentation could be better. Bluetooth might need some TLC on older devices.

It's awesome when it connects. It's rather finiky. I wish somethings were slightly different. Sometimes it seems like it forgets my timealignment settings. It's really awesome that something like this exists for us who can't remove factory head unit because it's tied into everything. All in all I would recommend it. Just has some quirky functions sometimes.
Pros: Eq Time alignment Can install aftermarket amps
Cons: Bluetooth connection unstable

Great DSP packed with features. It was a breeze to update the software. If you have one living brain cell left, you can do it. I am using this as a Stand-Alone device WITHOUT the Maestro harness, using the high-level inputs and it is awesome. Once you get it set, you can forget about. The Bluetooth is a bit wonky, even with an IPad. The secret I found was to have all other Bluetooth around you turned OFF. It does not like interference.
Pros: Compact, and sounds GREAT.
Cons: Bluetooth is a bit on the weak side.

2018 Ram 1500
You were warned!! This thing was the worst car audio equipment I have ever experienced. I ordered the part and of course Crutchfield sent it within a couple of days. Got it connected all my wires and triple checked it was right. Plugged it in and the sound quality sucked. Re installed updates and software same results. I begin trouble shooting when I noticed the rear roof speakers where playing from the driver side only. More trouble shooting and I noticed that particular speaker was playing through the center speaker! Re checked wiring and all was correct. I trouble shot some more and noticed the roof speaker connections did not work at all! Contacted Crutchfield and tech support sent a new one out with Maestro harness just in case. 4 days later the harness arrived and the DSR1 was in space some where. Contacted Crutchfield and was told it should have been in the same box. My truck is apart waiting for this and nothing. Immediately requested my money back because I would have to wait 5 days to get the replacement part. I was upset at Crutchfield but unfortunately a business that size is going to have thieves some where. I have been installing systems for 30 years and this product which is the altimate blame flat out is horrible. I wanted this to work so bad it was crazy. I don't know what I am going to do at this point but all my amps speakers wiring and all is installed already. God have mercy. I will figure something out and update you all. SMH
Pros: I really wish I had one.
Cons: The sofware update was a nightmare and nothing worked. I don't know who is responsible but back to the drawing board Maestro and Fosgate

After multiple tries at flashing and software refreshing the DSR 1, was finally able to get it to respond correctly to the vehicle's existing system. Would have given 5 Stars if the flash/software update was easier. Very pleased to remove the poor performing Sony amp that was in since new. Instillation is straight forward with the Ford harness. Updating the software...not so much. With the existing amp connections under the center console it's not that easily available. Finally got the right flash combination and the DSR 1 is working great! Thanks to the Crutchfield folks for being so easy to work with.
Pros: Great sound through JL Audio 6 channel amp. Lots of options to configure the sound to individual taste
Cons: Software/firmware very challenging to get right.

I was hoping for a bit more out of this product, with a little less problems. While it does do everything they claim. On the software, equalizer side, I wish they would provide a few pre loaded equalizer settings, that would allow you to make small mods, rather than starting from scratch. And I'm a GM customer, so obviously, I would love for Maestro module embedded in this thing, to hurry up and add GM to their list of supported vehicles. It's GM for goodness sake. There aren't enough GM vehicles on the road to warrant the time and investment to support us?

Must have to replace sony audio in F150!

2014 Ford F-150 FX4
Excellent product. Very happy with the ease of installation. I have a 2014 F150 with sony audio. I was able to bypass the sony amp completely and added a 4 channel amp for my door speakers along with a mono amp for my subs. No hiss, no strange noises, everything works like it did before (nav, door chimes, back up sensors, Bluetooth audio). I added the 4 meter extension which ended up being too long but better safe than sorry. Only thing I would like to point out as others have is the Bluetooth connectivity. It seems that it takes a few tries to connect with my iPhone but once I have a stable connection i'm able to tune the device with no issues. Very happy customer.
Pros: - Easily integrate aftermarket audio with stock sony system - Very nice DSP for tuning the system - Small and compact - Must have for aftermarket audio systems with sony audio in the F150!
Cons: - Bluetooth connectivity with iPhone seems spotty but like I mentioned once it finally grabs hold of the device no issues with tuning and setting everything up.

Awesome DSP. Skeptical at 1st because of previous issues with Axxess DSP (almost same form factor), but it was unbelievable that it can make your factory head unit so tunable. Takes a lot of time if your using the advance tuning. Basic tuning is the best way to start. Used as stand alone unit on my 2018 Honda CRV EXL. For best possible outcome utilized a car audio professional for installation and tuning.
Pros: Affordable, small form factor.

Wish this was out when I bought my car the dsp I had was good but this one you control with phone or tablet and gives you a 31 band equalizer and crossover controls for each set of speakers and you don't have to spice into the factory wiring like I did with the old dsp I gave this only 4 stars because of all the programing and lack of good instructions (by the way this does work with windows 10 just have to use internet explorer not edge despite what other people say) also bluetooth signal isn't real strong and disconnects often but overall great unit glad I got it
Pros: Don't have to run power or cut into factory wiring Can make adjustments from your seat 31 band equalizer Crossover controls
Cons: Had to program it several times to get the right settings because couldn't find any instructions saying what each option does and how to adjust warning chimes and phone volume The phone or tablet disconnecting but it does reconnect

Works great once updated
John from Chicago Heights, IL on 9/19/2018
It is easy to work with once it has been flashed and updated, which is why I gave it 4 stars. The build date on my unit was from July of this year, but I had to flash the module with a higher firmware update from over a year ago. Shouldn't this already have the most recent information built in? Also you have to use internet explorer as your browser for these updates. On the Android platform (Samsung Galaxy S9) App crashes when trying to adjust frequency (Gain and Q works), on Apple, works fine. Other than that, the app is easy to use and easy to program the EQ curve into the module. The unit is very responsive to adjustments. This unit is on the small side, I have it installed in my 2017 Harley Roadglide fairing.
Pros: Small Easy to wire Responsive
Cons: Update needed out of the box Must use internet explorer for update App may crash during frequency adjustments on the Android platform

Necessary Evil
Chad from Kentucky on 8/26/2018
Using this on my 2016 Ford Taurus SHO. It's the only integration module that works with a 16 so I'm stuck with it. I have it mostly working now, but the amp turns on by itself randomly and sometimes stays on all night. It's drained my battery more than once. Will have to find an alternate amp turn on source. The initial flashing is buggy and confusing. You have to flash BOTH Rockford Fosgate firmware and Idatalink. They don't tell you that anywhere. The flash utility will not work in windows 10. I had to drag out an old win7 machine, and it took many tries with that. The Bluetooth is terrible. It fails to connect frequently and barely has any signal 5 feet from the module. The preamp voltage is super weak. I barely get 2V peak with the volume all the way up playing a 1khz reference tone at -5 dB. To make it worse, idatalink support is non existent. I've been waiting 2 weeks on a response to my last support post and have asked 2 more unanswered questions since then. They should be ashamed. The DSP functions do work well, and I got an almost flat RTA curve fairly easily, but since the amp gains have to be so high, there's more hiss than I'd like. If you have a choice, pick something else.
Pros: Easy hookup with Maestro cable, good DSP
Cons: Poor noise floor, weak preamp outs, buggy, Bluetooth barely works, horrible initial setup and poor support

This thing has a ton of potential. The flexibility and ease of wiring aided by the vehicle specific harness is really impressive. When it's all installed properly it sounds great! The software and vehicle specific flash are difficult to upload to the device. Multiple websites and a series of plug/unplug/plug to get it to link up and sync should keep this thing from being released publicly. I've seen other reviews mention the chime adjustability. It does have some odd reactions. I recommend if you're willing and capable of dealing with that. My local audio shop was not....... 2017 F250 with factory Sony radio

Dissapointing

2017 Ford Focus
2017 Ford Focus Titanium I purchased the DSR1 to upgrade the sound system in my Focus. The factory amplifier is, to say the least junk. The first DSR1 came dead on arrival. As usual, Crutchfield's customer service was top notch. I had to wait 30 days since the DSR1 was out of stock. When the new one came, it took several attempts to flash it properly. I updated the firmware and no luck. Finally, I was able to flash it. One of the issues was that the parking chimes came really loud and I was not able to adjust them. Also, the DSR1 would not save new settings. I called Rockford, and they kept sending me to IDatalink as they felt the issue was software related and not hardware. The sound was good while it worked, but I think the unit had too many glitches. Also, it would get really hot. Finally, after a week of using it stopped working. To be honest, I do not know if I had a lemon or is just a bad product, but after two replacements, I decided not to keep trying. Crutchfield's customer service tried their best.
Pros: -The promise of better sound. -I sounded good while it worked
Cons: -I was not able to flash it more than once -Unreliable -It gets really hot -Software glitches -Rockford Customer service was less than adequate.

No maestro model for my VW, but it is easy enough to use the speaker wire, high level inputs. I've had many EQs in the past, but this thing is awesome! Extreme felixibility with the independent EQ for each channel. Ability to change the tuning frequencies, Q, and gains. It has time delay and very flexible crossovers. I used a free rta app on my phone to see the baseline frequency response and the effects of the changes. You can dial in whatever sound you like! Very easy to smooth things out with a tap on your phone! Love it!
Pros: Easy to set up and use Inexpensive for dsp Time delay really works! Super flexible XOs & EQs
Cons: No input clipping indication, but once you set up or change the gains on your amps, it's really not a big deal

Great DSP

2018 Honda Accord Sport
This is an excellent and affordable DSP with everything you need to get your system sounding perfect. I like that you can change setting on the spot with no wires and no laptops or controllers, everything is done using your cellphone or tablet. The only feature I would love for it to have is a De-EQ feature. This item is used for integrating amplifiers into factory systems, so expect a lot of EQ and filtering from the factory system. I noticed one bug so far with presets, when applying a preset sometimes the volume is lowered and another preset needs to be applied before applying the intended one before the volume will go back to normal. Other than that, everything worked perfect.
Pros: Easy to use ad install. With a Phone measuring microphone, tuning can be done with just a cellphone and a tablet. Takes all kinds of input signal (High level, Low Level, SPDIF)
Cons: Some problems connecting via Bluetooth but all was fixed after a software update. Sometimes presets need to be applied twice for the levels to normalize. No De-EQ feature

I Had to wait for the weather to warm up. Once it did I hooked the DSR1 in about 4 hours. This included running power wire and installing 2 amps. I had already install some infinity 6 1/2 in all 4 doors of my car. I immediately could tell the difference with the DSR1 and amps. The gains were at about 30% for my 4 channel Rockford and my mono Memphis amp. I should have taken some pictures but I was to busy playing with the app for the DSR1 it's very nice and not hard to figure out. I made some of my first adjustment to the EQ and I'm very impressed on how my system sounds. I know a guy that has a RTA, so I'm looking forward to tuning and getting the most out of my system
Pros: Plug and play, plus the remote turn on. My factory amp is in the trunk so all my wiring and amps are all together in 1 spot. Plus you retain all your factor functions.
Cons: Right off the bat I don't see any cons. One thing to be aware of your factory chimes and Bluetooth will sound different. Not in a bad way just be prepared for it to change.

Cheapo Product with Poor Support
Chris from Orem, UT on 3/29/2018
The USB connector broke right off when I unplugged the cable after updating the firmware. When I got an RA from Rockford they refused to pay return shipping so I had to pay to return their defective product to them. On top of that they told me it's out of stock and they won't ship a new one for another month (!). They don't bother to keep any in reserve to replace a defective unit. Even though they have plenty of dealers that have them in stock they refused to try and get me one that way so I don't have to wait a month. Really poor customer service. The app is glitchy and the product seems pretty cheap overall.

Great concept, Needs a little work.
Dom from Austin, TX on 2/12/2018
UPDATED 3/20/18: I bought this unit 11/17. I was excited that someone had figured out how to bypass/remove the factory Sony amp and dsp from my 2016 f150. The idea of what Maestro and Rockford are trying to accomplish is great, the software just needs work. Since I've owned this unit, there have been quite a few software updates and some issues have been fixed but there is still a lot to be desired in regard to certain features that others DSP's gladly offer. At this point, my biggest issue is lack in input and output gain settings when flashed with vehicle specific firmware. I'm running an AudioControl 6.1200 for my mids and highs. Using both AudioControls built in clipping/input level indicators and an SMD DD1 to set my gains, the gain on the amp has be turned 3/4 of the way up before you reach a clipping state, this is a problem in regard to noise though the system. Gain is not a volume control and in all my years in car audio, I have never had this issue unless there is a source problem. I ordered a second unit just to see if mine was bad but that did not solve my problem. If Maestro/Rockford would allow the input and output sensitivity to be changed by the end user, this problem would be solved.
Pros: Factory integration is as clean as it gets from a wiring perspective. User interface on iphone and ipad is good. Nice adjustment. Customer service is solid, there's just a delay in resolution having to communicate between both Rockford and Maestro but we are making progress. Small compact design.
Cons: Software and firmware still need some work. Limited to phone and tablet. I'd like to be able to use this on my laptop so I can input my data from REW. Sound quality isn't quite there yet, I don't have a PAA3 to test the output signal of the dsp but I suspect there are deficiencies. Could be wrong but my sound just isn't there even after a tune in REW, having gain problems doesn't help either. Fingers crossed it gets better!

I bought this product for my 2017 Audi A4 (no maestro piece available)- however, I was able to use the high (speaker level) front output of the factory head unit, to get the signal to this piece. The app is a little difficult, at first, since there are not much instructions, but once you learn to navigate it, you can truly dial the adjustments in! (I've made 2 online videos on this). You can use the dsr1 as a piece to maintain all your factory controls, etc, or you can use this piece with after market head units too??! I chose this piece because I no longer own a laptop, like the other manufacturers to adjust. Btw, I would normally use the pioneer 80prs head unit active, and this piece, for me, and my Audi application, just as good, if not better, than an 80 prs (I run my system active.) IM EXTREMLY HAPPY, Ive been into car audio for 20 plus years, and I have NEVER heard a piece of equipment that takes a factory, dirty , low output signal, sound so CLEAN till this dip!!!!! Rockford Fosgate DSR1

I bought this device because it said it would divide the sounds from bluetooth and music audio which it did but didn't take in mind the parking sensors audio. Doing so it blew out my tweeter from how loud it is. Would be nice if that feature of adjusting parking sensor volume was included in the next update.
Pros: Installation and rockford fosgate app
Cons: No adjustment for parking sensor volume

I bought the AR with the Kenwood DSP amp. I wanted the ability to pick any amp so when I saw the DSR-1 I was very excited. However, even after getting the latest firmware, it still wouldn't lock my pre-sets. Upon shutting off the vehicle and exiting all the per-sets went away and it went back to the default settings. I had to turn the bass boost all the way up to get the same amount of response I would get from a standard monoblock. I'm a AV tech by trade and I have to say the Kenwood app and DSP is much better. Sorry RF but I'm going back to my original setup.
Pros: Ability to choose any app
Cons: App would not lock presets

DSP price too good to be true

The concept of this Digital Signal Processor is sound but I own a JL TwK 88 that has set the standard for me. I basically swapped this out for my Twk 88 to see how it compared. The adjustability although very good isn't as fine as the JL. I found the frequency steps to be course in comparison. I found the software frustrating and slow to tune and couldn't directly input my settings from REW like I can with the JL. I couldn't make adjustments offline while not connected to the DSR1. Worse I thought I could do that with the default factory preset but when I first started to upload that preset, it erased everything I had spent over an hour adjusting. Good thing I left the tweeters unconnected or it would have sent a full range signal to them, possibly damaging them. The Bluetooth range is short as I lost signal as soon as I stepped out of my truck. About the only thing I found nice about the app was that the graph showing the crossover points and EQ is large and gives you a good picture of what is happening. The whole point of not needing a laptop/PC is kind of moot because you still need one to flash this especially if you use this as a replacement interface for your factory amp. I used this as a stand alone DSP. Another thing is compared to the TwK this thing feels cheap and weighs much less. I also set the input/output settings and level control for each speaker to the same as my JL but when I played music through it they were not the same nor was the volume for each speaker the same.
Pros: Good graphs to show you what the settings look like. Can replace factory amp and bypass factory EQ. Can be used as a stand alone DSP. potential good bang for buck if they fix the software and your willing to spend hours more than need to tune. I only buy these kind of things from Crutchfield because their support is the best when there is a problem and you're not satisfied.
Cons: The app/software needs a lot of work in my opinion as it's cumbersome to use. No protection for your tweeters when running an active setup like with the JL where it automatically mutes them. Can't tune offline. Short Bluetooth range. Cheap light plastic body. No DAC specs, what are they hiding. Doesn't hold a candle to my JL TwK 88. Should have known better than to think a DSP at this price point could be good.
