About the Rockford Fosgate M5-1000X1
M5 Series Element Ready™ amplifier
M5 Series Element Ready™ amplifier
Rockford Fosgate designed this M5 Series amplifier for marine and powersports environments, using a special "Element Ready" chassis and conformal-coated PC boards to protect against dust and water. The M5-1000X1 amplifier can send up to 750 watts RMS to your marine sub, with a Dynamic Power rating of 1,000 watts at 1 ohm. You can adjust the low-pass filter and Rockford Fosgate's famous Punch boost to get the best possible bass from your sub and enclosure.
Ready for the great outdoors
The amp also features a UV-stable, powder-coated, cast-aluminum heatsink to help prevent corrosion, while heavy-duty molded connectors protect wiring, keeping out water and dirt. In fact, this amp earned its IPX6 water intrusion rating after being sprayed with 100 liters of water per minute from a distance of 10 feet from all directions for at least 3 minutes. Translation? This amp will deliver reliable power through all kinds of abuse, whether it's out on the water or deep in the wilderness.
Setting it up for optimum performance
Rockford Fosgate's C.L.E.A.N. technology (Calibrated Level Eliminates Audible Noise) setup system ensures your music will sound as clean and powerful as possible. It's a simple system to use — turn it up until the light shows red, then turn it down until the red light goes out. If you're adding this amp to a Rockford Fosgate UTV audio kit, just press the Preset button and it's instantly tuned for maximum performance.

Features
CTA-2006 Compliant: CTA-2006 is a system of testing and measurement for mobile audio amplifiers. This voluntary standard advocates a uniform method for measuring an amplifier's RMS power output. The criteria for measuring amplifier power uses a DC input voltage of 14.4 volts and the RMS power output is measured over a frequency range of 20 Hz to 20 kHz (for full range amplifiers), with 1% or less Total Harmonic Distortion plus noise (THD+N). Signal-to-Noise ratio is measured in weighted absolute decibels (dBA) at a reference of 1 watt into 4 ohms. CTA-2006 standards allow consumers to compare amplifiers and receivers under the same conditions (apples to apples).
CTA-2006 Specifications:
- Power Output:
- 4Ω: 500 watts RMS x 1
- 2Ω: 750 watts RMS x 1
- 1Ω: 750 watts RMS x 1
Dynamic Power Specifications: Rockford Fosgate also publishes dynamic power ratings, which they describe as based on CTA-2006 industry standards, taken while listening to music, to indicate real world power output.
- Power Output:
- 4Ω: 600 watts RMS x 1
- 2Ω: 900 watts RMS x 1
- 1Ω: 1,000 watts RMS x 1
Class BD Design: Rockford Fosgate BD topology is a patented design, integrating a technology that is more efficient than typical class A/B amps, and has lower distortion than typical class D designs. Class BD amplifiers are 75-80% efficient, while class A/B amps are typically less than 50% efficient. This means, more power from your amplifier with less drain on your vehicles electrical and charging system.
DSM (Discrete Surface Mount): High speed robotics are used in the manufacturing process to place 1% tolerance parts and large board traces. DSM improves the efficiency of the circuit, decreases cross-talk from other discrete components and lowers operating temperature.
CLEAN Set-Up: Rockford's integrated level setting technology, CLEAN (Calibrated Level Eliminates Audible Noise), replaces sophisticated test equipment with input/output clip LEDs, allowing you to match the source unit's output to the amp's gain, and optimize the amp's output. The input clip indicator works in conjunction with the audio source volume, illuminating red when the source reaches its clipping point. The output clip indicator works in conjunction with the input level dial on the amp, illuminating the appropriate color depending on the audio content used for the setup.
Controls:
- Input Level: rotary dial; continuously variable from 150mV to 12V; labeled min/max on the dial
- Frequency: rotary dial; continuously variable from 50 to 250 Hz; sets the low pass frequency of the crossover; the slope is 12dB/octave
- Punch EQ: rotary dial; continuously variable; boosts the bass from 0 to +18 dB, centered at 45 Hz; labeled min/max on the dial
- Preset: 2-position switch; on/off; when
on, settings are optimized for use with Rockford Fosgate UTV
audio kits, eliminating the need to manually tune the amp:
- Input Level: "3 O'clock"
- Frequency: 80 Hz
- Punch EQ: minimum
Connections: All the input and output wiring is attached to the included plugs, which then plug into the ports on the 10" pigtails attached to the ends of the amp.
- Power Connections: three set screw terminals for Battery (+12 volts), Ground, and Remote turn-on; each accepts up to 8-gauge bare wire; 8-gauge wire recommended for power and ground
- Speaker Connection: two set screw
terminals for the subwoofer output (+/-); each accepts
up to 8-gauge bare wire
- Note: The 3-wire power and 2-wire subwoofer plugs can be inserted into the wrong ports, so pay attention to the labels on both when connecting.
- Signal Input: the included 14" input harness has two female RCA jacks on one end; the other end plugs into the port wired to the amp; when using speaker level inputs, follow the instructions on the bottom of the amp
