About the Rockford Fosgate P1650

As solid as sound gets

Do you own a European car like a VW, Citroen, or Vauxhall? Rockford Fosgate designed these speakers with you in mind. Rather than only providing rigid screw holes that may not match up to your factory speaker opening, the Flex 2 Fit basket design uses slots on the outer edge of the speaker basket for an easier match.
Rockford Fosgate Punch P1650

Slots on the outer edge of the speaker basket make for an easier installation.

As solid as sound gets

Without a doubt, Rockford Fosgate's P1650 6-1/2" speakers are powerful upgrades from the speakers that came in your car. Using an injection-molded mineral-filled polypropylene cone, the P1650's woofer delivers impressively accurate sound. Rockford Fosgate's signature VAST surround technique also expands the surface area of the cone, giving you better bass response than comparable speakers. But no matter how heavy the bass gets, the P1650's dome tweeter provides clear, extended highs for a rich full-range sound.

Give your import some American muscle

Upgrading from factory gym speakers in my 04' Malibu. Was like upgrading from a 76' ford pinto to a 2018 Audi R8 convertible. There might be better speakers out there but I can't imagine that they are that much better. Easily worth full price. That would still have been a fair price for the sound quality.

Pros: Great sound and range. Solid lows, but I still need a sub.

Cons: There are none. These are great speakers.

Pretty Impressive for the Price

I'm giving these 5 stars because for the price a pair, I don't know if you can do better. Keep in mind that if you're going to run any speaker without an amp, you're not really going to hear its full potential. In fact, even with an amp, the wrong head unit can easily make you think that if you're experiencing sound quality issues, that it's the speakers. So initially I had these speakers powered by a JVC head unit and no amp and, while obviously better than the stock speakers (2008 Honda CRV), I knew they needed more power. Then I installed an Infinity Reference 4555a 5-channel amp and added a sub. After weeks of tweaking my HU and amp, the system still sounded pretty bad. I thought it was these speakers. I was wrong. I ended up replacing my head unit to a Pioneer DEH-80PRS. This was the issue... the head unit, not the speakers. Now I'm pretty darn impressed with these speakers. They're beyond legit for the price. Great tone/sound from midbass to highs. If you have these and they don't sound good, it's probably another bottleneck in your system, not these. In fact, I had already purchased a set of more expensive components that I was going to replace these with, but now with my new HU, I'm reluctant to go through with it. They just sound that good. I guess eventually I'll put the new components in, but I will not part with these. I may install them in my wife's vehicle. So ultimately, if you have the money and want pretty

Pros: Great sound, great value.

Cons: No cons I can speak of.

Beware: These tweeters are very, very powerful

Sam from Tucson, AZ on 7/28/2018

After spending money on these, a head unit and an amp, I thought I would have one of my best car stereo systems to date. After a few days of fine tuning my stereo I can confidently say I'm not at all impressed by this set. The woofers/mid range are great and do exactly what they should do. However, the woofers are in the doors - and are near my legs when driving. The tweeters are the problem. These tweeters do produce very strong and crisp frequencies. However, because they are mounted in the front pillars (about eye level) of the car, they are incredibly harsh and strong. Because the crossover is built in and the tweeters are not recognized as a single speaker ((the car picks up each set (woofer and tweeter) as one speaker)), there is no way to adjust the tweeter by itself. This is a huge problem- if I want to turn the volume up and hear the music completely, my ears get demolished by these tweeters. Of course I can adjust the equalizer and cut the highs so the music is more audible, but then I lose the highs that the tweeters can produce very well. Essentially, beware of component speakers with crossovers built in- if your tweeters are at ear-level in the car. I've learned my lesson with these and will eventually be getting an adjustable crossover set so I don't go deaf. Pros: -good price -built in crossover (saves time) -strong bass and crisp highs -good installation mounts/gear Cons: -built in c

Great product and huge difference in clarity even with the factory system. Very well made especially i love the rubberized cover on the speaker magnets. . My Honda accord has a premium factory system with 7 speakers. I always heard about factory system not being sufficient to produce high quality sound so i just decided to change all speakers out before i touched the factory radio. I was very happy with the results and i did not have to change the head unit. Installation was easy with the harness supplied by Crutchfield. The size 6 3/4" said it would fit my car but unfortunately the harness did not fit. I exchanged it for 6 1/2" and it fit perfect.

I recently purchased three pair of R.F. Punch 1650 and one pair of punch 1642 for my van and equinox. Just installed them this weekend. What a difference in the quality of music coming from my vehicles. Just getting them out of the box you can tell you bought some great quality speakers. They were a definite upgrade from stock speakers. Oh they do punch when played loud enough. I tested them of course. The adapters and fractory clips that were included in my purchase made installation easier. I would definitely come back here in the future and recommend them to anybody else that is in the market for new speakers.

I have installed the Rockford Fosgate Punch P1650 pair in my 2015 Subaru STI. These speakers will need to be screwed into your door if you plan to out them in a 2015 Sti. I wish crutchfield created brackets that match up with the oem screw holes. However, these speakers do sound pretty good once installed. I dont have an amp but im sure an amp will push the most out of these speakers. The bass is good for the price, high are good and crisp, mid are okayish. Fosgate is the way to go.

Installed into a 2014 Silverado Z71 with the non Bose 8" stereo. Had previously installed the Kicker VSS sub package and realized during a drive in the backseat with my son that vocals were non-existant even with the Kicker DSP helping. Ordered and installed these then tested the system; absolutely night and day with clarity and crispness. Went forward with the Rockford Fosgate component exchange up front (see my other reviews) as the stock components did sound muddled comparatively. Now the crew cab has a truly amazing sound stage. All in all extremely pleased with all audio investments I've made.

08 canyon x cab , front speakers Polk db651s , rear speakers fosgate p1650' . I replaced front speakers awhile back , leaving the stock rear speakers . Sound was much improved . As soon as I replaced the stock rear speakers the improvement was noticeably cleaner , louder. The bass is Pretty good when all four speakers are running off of the aftermarket head unit / no external amp. 14 Rms fader biased to the rear. The p1650 also fit without the need for a bracket which is really nice. The fosgate are nice speakers and I will keep them . That being said , if I were to purchase 6.5 inch speakers again I would get Polk audio . Listening to the speakers separately I give the edge to Polk because of bass performance, keep in mind the front door is twice as large as the rear/half door and the speakers are behind the seats . The tweeters on the p1650 are permanently angled ,so you can rotate the entire speaker to direct the highs where you need them.

Pros: Crisp clean sound, they also give your car that new car smell

Cons: I would have to hear them amped in order to make comment here. Sound good for the low rms I'm putting through them.

These sound great. I used them to replace the factory speakers in the door of my Silverado. They are definitely a huge improvement. You won't get a ton of bass but what you do get is tight and clean. I'm sure they would sound great with a little more power to them but I'm happy with the factory radio. The installation in my 2008 Silverado was pretty easy also. Both doors only took about 45 minutes. That included my coffee breaks due to being a little chilly in the garage. The only issue I had was the supplied bracket for the speaker seemed like it would rattle some the way it should have been installed. It had an extra screw tab that just sat on the door. I went ahead and drilled a new hole into the door and screwed it down just to keep from hearing an annoying rattle. But I recommend these for anyone wanting better sound than the factory speakers. Or for people like me whose cheap factory speakers just quit working.

Pros: Great price. Quality sound. Wonderful customer service.

Cons: None yet.

I bought these to replace the stock speakers in the rear deck of the car and get more mid range and highs out of my system, to my delight I was very impressed with the sound of these speakers, my system is still a little work in progress but none the less they if tuned right will deliver a great sound. my system, pioneer DEH-9600BHS for my head unit and a Rockford Fosgate R600X5 Prime series amp and a set of old school kenwood "10" subs in a sealed box in the trunk and punch P1692 in the rear deck and a set of P1650 in the doors. my system isn't tuned yet and they make a big difference in the whole sound. that said these are a great sounding speaker for the money if you tune your system right you should have some great sounding mids and highs (these speakers are not meant for hard hitting bass, they are mid range speakers and should be used as such!!)

Pros: great sounding speaker without breaking the bank

I used the "We'll help you install the gear yourself and save" link and picked these up for lower than the normal price, so that was definitely a plus. Even running the speakers off the stock stereo deck, they sound great!!

Pros: Clear sound, easy Installation, and great price.

Cons: 4-stars because light on bass. I am going to try a 6-1/2" Bazooka behind the back seat to fix this issue.

The speakers provide excellent sound, especially for the price since I got them on sale. Installation was pretty straight forward after a quick call to the extremely helpful tech support to verify that I needed to drill new holes in my doors; should ditch the factory-supplied mounting clips and screws; and use self-tapping screws instead. Total installation time (including the call to tech support) was under 2 hours.

I bought these speakers as replacements for the factory speakers. I had to drill mounting holes just like instructions from Crutchfield said i would. Very easy, very straight forward. I currently use the factory stereo with no amplification and the speakers sound nice. I'm sure they would sound much better if they were given the wattage they deserve. Overall, i am very happy with the speakers.

Pros: sound, price, style, and smell ( I love that new speaker smell )

Cons: none so far.

Decent low end coax speaker. Doesn't do high volume very well. Driven off my head unit, so take with a grain of salt. Might perform better off a 4 channel amp. They do well as my rear stage.

Pros: Decent sound and cheap.

Cons: Don't handle high volume off the head unit. May be better off an external amp.

nice speakers

First off...These are 6.5 inch speakers. Crutchfield lists this as 6 3/4 but that is false. Otherwise, great speakers, but make sure to give them some time before thinking they are no good. I think they need a bit of time to break in, but they sounds great now.

Pros: Decent bass for a 6.5 speaker

Cons: Need break in time. but that's not really a con, just a reality fr most speakers I suppose. I never experienced it before until these speakers though.

Crutchfield response on 1/13/2016
Size Classification Note: Some manufacturers, including Rockford Fosgate, call this size speaker a 6-1/2". Because it requires a larger cutout than a standard 6-1/2" speaker, Crutchfield has traditionally referred to this size woofer as a 6-3/4". Please refer to the Crutchfield Vehicle Selector to confirm fit in your vehicle.

I bought 2 sets for my 2007 tahoe doors. I had a blown factory speaker so I went ahead and bought these. It was money well spent! I also bought the baffles too. The bass output from these is unbelievable! There's really no distortion when the low bass notes come on. The highs are very clear! The bass from these actually make my mirrors shake as if I had subs in the back.

Pros: The bass!!!! Did I say the bass is incredible? Yeah it's that good! No distortion!

Cons: There really is t anything bad that I can say about these speakers other than that the mounting brackets that came with the speakers actually had to be modified so the speaker can sit all the way into the hole.

Features

Injection-Molded Polypropylene Woofers: The woofer cones are mineral filled, injection-molded polypropylene. This molding process assures a uniform cone thickness for superior linearity and clarity. It is also light weight and rigid for decreased distortion and improved bass response.

Klippel Verified: The Klippel distortion analyzer, a device that uses a laser and sophisticated software to do large-scale analysis of drivers in motion, lets Rockford Fosgate optimize the speaker's motor structure, voice coil alignment, and suspension to yield the best possible performance.

VAST Surround: The Vertical Attach Surround Technique (VAST) increases a speaker's effective radiating cone area without increasing the size of the basket.

Tweeters: Each speaker features a 3/4" PEI (Poly-Ether-Imide) dome tweeter; PEI is a polymer film that produces a wide soundstage for superior imaging.

FlexFit 2 Basket: The Flex Fit frame utilizes slots (where possible) instead of single screw sized holes; allowing slight adjustment of the speaker when mounted.

StampCast Basket: The P1650 features StampCast baskets for added rigidity.

Speaker Terminals: These speakers have 0.25" wide positive (+) terminals and 0.187" wide negative (-) terminals, which are too large for the vehicle-specific speaker harnesses supplied by Crutchfield for many vehicle applications. It is recommended that a pack of assorted female quick slides (item number 120FQS10PK, sold separately) be purchased and crimped to the harnesses to adapt them to the speaker terminals.

Q
What's the difference between 2 way and 3 way. And can I get it these in both front and both back doors?
[ Jmiah  May 13, 2018 ]
1 answer
A
Three way is all ranges; bass, mid, and tweeter. Two way is bass and tweeter combo. If not possible to put components in, then a three way is a great option. This particular set has movable tweets so voice can be better directed to listener. They can be used in both front and rear, but a three way up front at least would be recommended.

Q
What's the difference between 2 way and 3 way. And can I get it these in both front and both back doors?
[ Jmiah  May 13, 2018 ]
1 answer
A
A 2 way is a high and low speaker(usually a woofer and tweeter) A 3 way has a high, midrange and low speaker giving you better sound quality. They split up the frequencies that best fit each speaker

Q
I already have tweeters in my car, will the tweeters on these screw with my sound?
[ Childishcam  Jul 24, 2017 ]
1 answer
A
Yes in my opinion, the high range seems to get very "tinny" almost a digital sound. When played loudly but i am powering them only with the head unit and no amp may change with more power
[ Matthew  Jul 25, 2017 ]
Q
Will these speakers work with my stereo that puts out 4x50 watts or do I need an amp?
[ Frank  Feb 24, 2016 ]
1 answer
A
I believe you're quoting the "Max" or "Peak" power rating of your stereo which is not indicative of the actual continuous (RMS) wattage it will truly produce. Either way, the Rockfords are rated to work off as little as 5 watts RMS and up to 55 watts RMS so you'll be good to go. I hope that helps! My Bio: http://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=5

whats the Cheapest/best amp to pair with these speakers?

Thanks for your question. For information on selecting the best amp for your speakers I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help determine the differences between the amp models and help you make the best choice for your system.
