Rockford Fosgate showcases their fanatical commitment to sonic excellence in the Punch Series of speakers, amps, and subs. If you like to listen to potent, powerful music — and feel it too — Punch components will give you impressive sound that'll stand out in a crowd.

Engineers at Rockford Fosgate designed the P1S4-15 15" subwoofer to dish out the kind of powerful low end you crave in your ride. Its responsive paper cone is reinforced with the same Kevlar® fibers used in bulletproof vests so you get the best of both worlds — warm bass that's exceptionally hard-hitting. Rockford Fosgate uses a new technique to attach the oversized rubber surround to the cone that increases available cone area up to 25%, so this sub can push more air for even bigger bass.

The P1S4-15 sub features an extended pole piece and bumped backplate that leaves more room for heavy excursion, so it'll hit deeper lows without "bottoming out." This sub works equally well in a sealed or ported enclosure, so you can choose the kind of bass you want for your system.

To drive this single subwoofer, we recommend a mono amplifier rated between 200 and 375 watts RMS at 4 ohms. For more information, please refer to our article on How to Match Subwoofers and Amplifiers.

Features

Overview: The Rockford Fosgate Punch P1S4-15 is a 15-inch subwoofer with a single 4Ω voice coil. The sub features a StampCast steel frame, quick-release compression terminals, a Kevlar fiber reinforced paper cone, and NBR surround (Nitrile Butadiene Rubber). An anodized aluminum voice coil former and spider venting help keep the subwoofer cool.

Steel Basket: The P1S4-15 subwoofer features a StampCast steel basket for added rigidity.

Compression Terminals: The P1S4-15 features spring post terminals which accommodate speaker wire up to 10 gauge.

CEA-2031 Compliant: Power handling on the P1S4-15 subwoofer conforms to CEA-2031 industry standards. This means the subwoofer has the capacity to handle power under continuous demand, not instantaneous power handling, that over time, can damage voice coils.

FlexFit Basket: The Flex Fit frame utilizes slots (where possible) instead of single screw sized holes; allowing slight adjustment of the speaker when mounted.

Trim Ring: To improve the cosmetic look, a decorative trim ring is included that mounts over the flange of the woofer. When using the PVC trim ring the woofer is first mounted with four screws, then the ring is placed on top of the woofer, aligning the final four holes of the woofer with ring. The other four screws are used for these holes to mount the ring and woofer to the enclosure. The trim ring increases the mounting height of the woofer to 7/8 of an inch.

Enclosure Compatibility

Sealed Box: Rockford recommends a sealed enclosure with an optimum internal volume of 1.58 cubic feet (from 1.3 to 3.5 cubic feet is acceptable). Sealed enclosures provide the most control over a woofer, will handle a lot of power, and provide accurate sonic reproduction, making them suitable to all types of music.

Ported Box: Rockford recommends a ported enclosure with an internal volume of 2.66 cubic feet using one 4" diameter x 8" long port; this yields a tuning frequency of 34.4 Hz. Ported (or vented) enclosures typically provide better overall efficiency than sealed so they are suitable for use with smaller amplifiers, giving you more bass output from less power. However, this efficiency comes at the expense of very low frequency output (below 34 Hz).

A
i have them both wired to one amp that pushes 250 watts rms each @ 2 ohms and it sounds great, i have the rockford fosgate R500X1D amp
[ Luke  Dec 15, 2017 ]
A
would use the amp that would be the closest in rms power of 75% to 150% of the 250 Watts rms that Rockford Fosgate recommended. Make sure that you wire them correctly for the amp you choose. I am not familiar with those brand amplifiers so that is the proper advice in your situation. It will be easier for you to adjust your gains and crossover frequencies by running 1 amp. Hope I helped!

Q
Ported or sealed? And what is the recommended port size?
[ Connor  Sep 08, 2017 ]

A
This subwoofer can work in both box types. It needs 1.3-3.5 (1.58 is ideal) cubic feet in a sealed box or 2.66 cubic feet for a ported box. I recommend calling an advisor on 1-800-324-9695 if you need help choosing between these two box types. My Bio: http://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=101

Honestly if your systems is wired correctly and you have your amp settings correct 3-5 hours

I had mine in my truck for around 3 weeks only running 300 watts to it and it didn't break in from that and the reason it wasn't in there longer is because the thing blew.
