About the Rockford Fosgate P312D2
Want to know what a knockout blow sounds like? Then just listen to this "Punch" from Rockford Fosgate. Muscular Punch Stage 3 subwoofers are big, bad, and loud! With 2-1/2" aluminum voice coils, huge double-stacked magnet structures, and cast-aluminum frames, they'll handle lots of power yet deliver the kind of precise, accurate lows you expect from Rockford Fosgate.
The P312D2 12" subwoofer features a polypropylene cone and black foam surround that combine for full excursion and maximum bass. The dual 2-ohm voice coil design lets you wire for maximum output or a multiple woofer setup. These hard hitters sound great in sealed or ported boxes.

Enclosure Compatibility
Dual 2-ohm Voice Coils: This woofer features dual 2-ohm voice coils that offer flexibility in wiring. When the voice coils are wired in parallel with each other, the woofer presents a 1-ohm mono load. When the voice coils are wired in series with each other, the woofer presents a 4-ohm mono load. In addition, each coil may be connected to a different amplifier channel and each channel will see a 2-ohm load.
Woofer: The cone is constructed of molded polypropylene. Polypropylene is lightweight and strong, giving the woofer high power handling and low distortion.
High Excursion Large Roll Surround: A large edge roll surround allows Punch woofers to produce 20% more linear excursion than standard surrounds, resulting in more bass output.
Parabolic Triangular Cone Geometry Support System: By bonding a polypropylene parabolic dust cap of equivalent size to the cone body, a balanced triangular structure is created. This system reduces piston flex and eliminates cone distortion.
Linear Spider: A compliant linear spider improves mechanical stability under high excursion, maintaining consistent excursion characteristics. This eliminates the need for a "break-in period."
Spider Support Ring: This integrated ring increases the bonding surface area between the voice coil former and spider, establishing a stronger joint. The result is increased mechanical power handling under high power/high excursion situations.
Anodized Aluminum Voice Coil Former: Aluminum voice coil formers offer superior heat dissipation over other commonly used materials. The hard-anodized finish increases the former strength. These two factors combine to improve the overall power handling characteristics of the subwoofer.
Precision Cast Aluminum Alloy Basket: A two-piece "basket in a bucket" design adds rigidity and eliminates multiple acoustic resonances. Additionally, the large aluminum mass helps reduce voice coil former temperature and increase power handling.
Double Stacked Magnet Motor Assembly: The stacked magnet assembly is used to create a powerful linear motor with increased excursion capability for superior bass output.
Spring Posts: The heavy-duty spring posts will accept pin connectors and bare wire.
Concealing Ring: Once the subwoofer is mounted, the concealing ring can be installed to hide the mounting screws, giving the subwoofer a finished look.
Recommended Sealed Box Volume: The sealed box sizes recommended by Rockford Fosgate range from 0.65 cu/ft to 0.85 cu/ft. Within this range, the ideal size recommended by Rockford Fosgate is 0.75 cu/ft, so this is the enclosure recommended by Crutchfield.
Recommended Vented Box Volume: The vented box sizes recommended by Rockford Fosgate range from 1.25 cu/ft to 2.0 cu/ft. Within this range, the ideal size recommended by Rockford Fosgate is 1.75 cu/ft, so this is the enclosure recommended by Crutchfield. One 4" diameter x 11" long port should be used with a 1.75 cu/ft enclosure.
Recommended Single Reflex Bandpass Volume: Rockford Fosgate's enclosure chart lists three compatible bandpass enclosures. The highlighted bandpass enclosure has a sealed chamber volume of 1.0 cu/ft, a vented chamber volume of 0.7 cu/ft and a single 4" diameter x 15.75" long port. The smallest recommended enclosure has a sealed chamber volume of 0.85 cu/ft, a vented chamber volume of 0.4 cu/ft and a single 4" diameter x 30" long port. The largest recommended enclosure has a sealed chamber volume of 1.2 cu/ft, a vented chamber volume of 0.9 cu/ft and a single 4" diameter x 13.25" long port.
