Advanced engineering

The P3SD2-8 8" shallow subwoofer hangs with its bigger brethren, thanks to advanced materials and engineering. Rockford uses anodized aluminum for the cone and dust cap making the woofer light and easier to drive, yet rigid enough to maintain its shape under maximum load. The M-Roll Santoprene™ surround also provides excellent excursion for maximum output while being durable enough to last.

Powerful bass for a tight space

A low-profile frame houses the subwoofer, with abundant venting to battle overheating and thermal breakdown. At 2-5/8 inches deep, this sub will fit into places where no bass has gone before — just build a custom enclosure or find a suitable box. The dual 2-ohm voice coils allow you to wire up multiple subs or to coax optimum performance from your amplifier.

To drive this single subwoofer, we recommend a mono amplifier rated between 100 and 225 watts RMS at 4 ohms. For more information, please refer to our article on How to Match Subwoofers and Amplifiers.

Excellent Quality and Deeper Bass!

Edwin Morales from San Lorenzo, PR on 11/4/2018

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I'm impressed with the quality and deep bass delivered by this subwoofer, it fit perfectly on my 2003 Toyota 4Runner factory sub enclosure, only cut the 2 factory connectors select the positives and negatives plug it in an drill 4 new holes and that's all, thanks to Crutchfield for the installation procedures on their website it takes me 15 minutes.

Pros: Easy installation, better bass than factory sub, correct impedance, long lasting aluminum cone material for longer life.

Cons: Nothing

This was a perfect fit replacement for the stock sub in my 4th gen 4runner- only required drilling a couple of extra holes in the enclosure mount, plugged it in, and good to go. The bass is perceptibly better than the old sub, and it runs beautifully off the factory amp. Couldn't be happier.

Perfect fit for Toyota 4Runner 2004. Comes with wiring harness, but still had to use butt connectors. No biggie. Install needs a slim speaker, and this fit perfectly.

Pros: fits good, sounds good, correct impedence

Cons: included wiring harness does not match up

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Just installed the sub in the factory Beats Audio Sub enclosure in the back left corner of my 2013 Fiat Abarth. Needs to break in more to see if it will sound better. The Beats Audio Amp has DSP so that doesn't help with the sound. Plan on replacing the amp with a better quality one and that should make all the difference.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Sounds good for an 8" woofer but it wasn't enough for me. I purchased a kicker comp Rt 12" with resonator in a box with a rf prime 500.1 amp. Much better! And fit behind the seat of my 12 f250 sc with some mods.

Pros: Tight bass

Cons: Not enough bump for me. But performed well for an 8

Works well in a 03 Toyota 4Runner Limited with the stock amp. It's not necessary to cut any factory wires when using the harness, but you will have to strip the wires to plug it into the sub itself. There are only four true screw holes, but the provided self-tapping screws will fit into the side brackets as well. Overall it's an excellent sub for the price.

Couldn't get a much easier upgrade from stock sub. Almost a direct bolt in. Sounds great. Plus great service and free accessories. Had a small problem with my other item I ordered and they were one of the best experiences in customer service I've ever had! Won't shop anywhere else.

Pros: Easy upgrade.

Cons: Wish I would have shopped here sooner.

2002 Chevrolet Tahoe
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great powerful speaker for its size , so I first started my project on my 2002 Tahoe with replacing all the door speakers to find that they all were blown, I used RF Punch 6 1/2 and it sounded better, but I wasn't happy yet ,then I changed the head unit with a pioneer double din and it sounded great until the sub in the rear got blown also because of the increased power from the head unit, so I purchased the RF p3sd2-8 because it fit the factory opening , so this speaker has to much power for the factory spot it rattled the side of the truck and it was awful , so then I made a custom sub box for under the rear seat and hooked everything up to a RF prime 5 channel amp , down fired the sub and now its a beautiful thing, I've decided to add a second sub to the system for a little more thump , i'm extreamly happy with the power that this small sub puts out.

Pros: great sub for its size, handles power from the amp very well

Cons: be careful where you install this sub

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

i used my origional factory sub enclosure to mount this unit. it is very small and awkwardly mounted. i had to cut the speaker frame mounting holes to fit it in my yukon. i am also using the factory head unit at this time. i i had used a custom box, an aftermarket head unit and an aftermarket amp it would perform to potential without any mods to the frame mounting holes and would then recieve a 5 star rating across the board.

Pros: very compact. versital mounting ability with numerous mounting holes in frame. dual voice coil. comes in 2 or 4 ohm. comes with mesh grill and stickers for window.

Cons: my installation is the only thing that limits this unit. if the price is right for you then this unit will do well. i haven't had the power i need to test how well the bass hits. with my factory unit the power level is unknown ( but can't be much ) so the bass is hard to hear. my fault for not getting bigger amp for installation.

Features
Enclosure Compatibility

Features

Shallow Mount Design: The Rockford Fosgate Punch P3S shallow subwoofer is designed and engineered with a more shallow motor assembly, reducing the overall depth of the woofer and allowing it to fit in smaller locations in your vehicle.

Dual Voice Coils: This woofer features dual 2-ohm voice coils for wiring flexibility. When the voice coils are wired in parallel, the woofer presents a 1-ohm load. When the voice coils are wired in series, the woofer presents a 4-ohm load.

Compression Terminals: The P3SD2-8 features spring post terminals which accommodate pin connectors, single banana plugs, or bare speaker wire up to 10 gauge.

Note: The rubber magnet cover may need removed (or repositioned) to insert pin connectors or banana plugs.

CEA-2031 Compliant: Power handling conforms to CEA-2031 industry standards, meaning the subwoofer has the capacity to handle its rated power under continuous demand, not just for an instant.

VAST Surround: The Vertical Attach Surround Technique (VAST) increases a speaker's effective radiating cone area without increasing the size of the basket.

FlexFit Basket: The Flex Fit frame utilizes slots (where possible) instead of single screw sized holes; allowing slight adjustment of the speaker when mounted.

Trim Ring: For added cosmetic appeal the woofer comes with an aluminum trim ring that mounts over the flange of the woofer. When using the trim ring, the woofer is first mounted with four screws, then the ring is mounted over the woofer, aligning the final four holes of the woofer with the ring. The other four screws are used in these holes to mount the ring and woofer to the enclosure. The trim ring increases the mounting height of the woofer to approximately 1 inch, and the ring's diameter is approximately 9 inches.

Enclosure Compatibility

Sealed Box: Rockford recommends a sealed enclosure with an optimum internal volume of 0.25 cubic feet (from 0.2 to 0.70 cubic feet is acceptable). Sealed enclosures provide the most control over a woofer, will handle a lot of power, and provide accurate sonic reproduction, making them suitable to all types of music.

Ported Box: Rockford recommends a ported enclosure with an internal volume of 0.75 cubic feet using one 3" diameter x 9" long port; this yields a tuning frequency of 47.5 Hz. Ported (or vented) enclosures typically provide better overall efficiency than sealed so they are suitable for use with smaller amplifiers, giving you more bass output from less power. However, this efficiency comes at the expense of very low frequency output (below 37 Hz).

I don't know I bought it for 2004 Tahoe [ mike  Sep 26, 2018 ]
Yes it will produce sound, no it will not sound good. Without resistance air pressure on the speaker, it's resistance rating will be skewed, meaning it will be wildly inaccurate with unfocused tone. In other words, quiet and flappy. [ Justin  Aug 08, 2018 ]
I didn't have this problem. From my experience with speakers, it's best to not have any part of the speaker other than the mounting ring touch any surface in order to eliminate any vibration. If you think this speaker might have this problem, look for a flatter speaker, or see if you can add a spacer plate between the mounting surfaces. [ Rodger  Feb 23, 2018 ]
I believe the subwoofer can be mounted with the back pressed against an enclosure provided that you put a dampening device such as a rug or EVA foam between the sub and enclosure wall. to isolate any rattling from the enclosure. I have my sub mounted in the a somewhat tiny crevice with insulation. My RF P3SD-8 Sub Works Great! [ Ermie  Feb 23, 2018 ]
Hi I installed this in its factory location and this speaker was too powerful for that location , it rattled the back of the factory location so i would say no to your question, I actually put it into a sub box and put it under the back seat and it sounds great [ stephen  Feb 23, 2018 ]
