About the Rockford Fosgate Punch PP4-X

A Punch Pro to keep the sound balanced

Rockford Fosgate designed the PP4-X crossover to work with a Punch Pro Series midrange speaker and tweeter. The PP4-X provides low-pass filtering for a 4-ohm Punch Pro woofer (3,000 Hz at a 6dB per octave slope), while Punch Pro Series tweeters include their own built-in high-pass crossover (4.5K Hz, 6 dB/octave). Don't worry about that "gap" in the frequency coverage, as the gentle 6db/octave slope ensures that the final response is perfectly blended and smooth.

Versatile little crossover

It's easy to set up your system. First, you select which tweeter you're using (the 2- or 4-ohm model), and then choose from three tweeter levels (0, -3, or  -6 dB) to suit your vehicle. The PP4-X features two woofer outputs, in case you want to double up on your Punch Pro midrange drivers for some real fun. The PP4-X handles up to 125 watts RMS, which is what Rockford Fosgate recommends for maximum performance from the Punch Pro speakers.

Note: This package contains one crossover — not sold in pairs.

I recently installed jbl concert 6.5s 3-way speakers in my Chevy Silverado Crew Cab.I had a kenwood 4 channel amp installed and also an Audiocontrol L7i.When i had the stock speakers hooked up before changing them out,it sounded more deep and bassy, but now with the 3 way speakers seems hollow?..Also wondering if my dash speakers have a crossover from the front speakers?..Should i have bought components instead?

Six and a half inches is a relatively small space to work with especially in terms of accurate sound reproduction. I hope you don't mind me saying so, but three-way 6.5s are almost always a horrible choice if you're looking for good to great sound. 3-way 6.5s are perfectly fine if you're just looking for sound of any kind. . . and lots of people are - nothing wrong with it. However, you seem to be looking for better. You can't realistically stuff three drivers into a 6.5" space and expect nirvana. Today's tweeters comfortably reach deep enough into the 20hz-20khz spectrum and midwoofers high enough, that a well designed 2-way will easily surpass the faithful reproduction of music better than any 3-way in a 6.5" space. Separates with a well designed crossover even more so. If you're not outside of 60 days - call Crutchfield.

The crossovers are sold individually and each covers one channel (left or right). For the best performance, it'd be recommended to use the Rockford Punch Pro tweeters with this crossover, which you can view on our site here: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_575PP4T/Rockford-Fosgate-PP4-T.html?tp=49590

Q
What does the three tweeter levels (0, -3, or -6 dB), do? I want to use my 4 channel Pioneer with 100watts rms with this speaker and the Rockford Fosgate 6-3/4" mid, will the tweeter handle the power even though it says its 50watt rms?
[ Gregory  May 01, 2015 ]
1 answer
A
The db settings are up to you - select whatever sounds the best. As far as the amp/speaker combo, that will work. I always try to match the amp with the speaker exactly, however as long as your amp isn't more than the speaker RMS, you should be ok. BTW, those tweeters are monsters - I bought a pair and had to send them back because they would not fit my truck.

Q
What does a crossover do?
[ Glynn  Feb 19, 2015 ]
1 answer
A
I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: A crossover makes sure that a connected tweeter only gets high range audio and the woofer gets the rest. This one uses 3000 Hz as the divider frequency. Everything above it will be sent to the tweeter output and everything below it will be sent to the woofer output. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.
