Features

CEA-2006 Compliant: CEA-2006 is a system of testing and measurement for mobile audio amplifiers. This voluntary standard advocates a uniform method for measuring an amplifier's RMS power output and signal-to-noise ratio. The criteria for measuring amplifier power uses a DC input voltage of 14.4 volts and the RMS power output is measured over a frequency range of 20 Hz to 20 kHz (for full range amplifiers), with 1% or less Total Harmonic Distortion plus noise (THD+N). Signal-to-Noise ratio is measured in weighted absolute decibels (dBA) at a reference of 1 watt into 4 ohms. CEA-2006 standards allow consumers to compare car amplifiers and receivers under the same conditions (apples to apples).

CEA-2006 Specifications:

  • Power Output: 300 watts RMS x 1 into 4Ω
  • Signal to Noise Ratio: >75 dBA (measured at 1 watt into 4Ω)

Other Specifications:

  • Power Output: 500 watts RMS x 1 into 2Ω (14.4 volts)

Mounting: The amplifier can be mounted vertically, horizontally, or inverted using the supplied mounting screws; horizontal mounting (right side up) will provide the best cooling.

Controls

Gain: The rotary gain control is labeled 0 to 11, equivalent to 150mV-4V line level or 450mV-12V speaker level.

Infra-Sonic: The variable infrasonic filter (15-40 Hz, 12 dB/octave slope) is designed to prevent frequencies below the capability of the subwoofer from being amplified. This helps reduce distortion, and is particularly useful when powering subs in ported enclosures.

Frequency: The 12dB/octave low-pass crossover is always engaged (it cannot be bypassed). The crossover frequency is set with a rotary dial, continuously variable from 50-250 Hz.

Punch EQ: The Punch EQ bass boost circuit is adjustable from 0 (min) to +18 dB (max) and centered at 45 Hz.

Auto Turn-on Switch: When using speaker level inputs, this switch can be set to On and the amp will turn on when it senses an input signal (DC offset on the left input). When using the RCA inputs a remote turn-on wire must be connected.

Remote Level Control: A wired Remote Level Control is included, allowing you to remotely control the output level of the amplifier from the dash or center console. The remote has a rotary dial, and comes with mounting hardware and a 16' cable.

Remote Dimensions:

  • Width: 1.16" (2" including the mounting flanges)
  • Height: 0.92"
  • Depth: 1.55" (2.375" including knob and wiring)
Connections

Power Terminals: The power and ground set-screw terminals will accommodate up to 4-gauge wire. The set screws are tightened/loosened with the included 3mm hex key.

Fuse: The amplifier does not have an on-board fuse. An 80-amp fuse should be placed on the power wire within 18" of the battery.

Remote Turn-On Terminal: The remote turn-on set-screw terminal will accommodate up to 8-gauge wire. The set screw is tightened/loosened with the included 3mm hex key.

Speaker Terminals: The set-screw speaker terminals will accommodate up to 8-gauge wire. The set screws are tightened/loosened with the included 3mm hex key.

RCA Input: There is one pair of RCA input jacks. The balanced differential inputs are nickel-plated to resist signal degradation caused by corrosion.

RCA Pass-Thru: A pair of nickel-plated RCA pass-thru jacks provides a convenient way to connect an additional amplifier without running an extra set of RCA cables from the front of the vehicle to the amplifier location. The signal from the inputs is passed directly to the RCA outputs.

Speaker Level Inputs: There is a port for the included speaker input harness. If speaker level inputs are used, nothing should be connected to the RCA jacks.

Q
is okay to connect 2-4ohms subwoofers to this RockfordFosgate PRIME R2-500X1 and what is the effect?

Q
Can I hook this amp? To a Rockford 12 inch 600 watt rms subwoofer.
jamie  Aug 13, 2023
1 answer
A
This depends on the specific impedance combination of your subwoofer, James. Something like the Rockford Fosgate P3D4-12 in the link below would pair very well. We provide lifetime Technical Support with any order, so we are always here to help you get connected. This amp puts out 500-watts into a 2-ohm load and is not 1-ohm stable. If your subwoofer coil combination shows 2-ohms this would be an excellent choice! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_5751P3D412/Rockford-Fosgate-P3D4-12.html

Q
Can I use this to power 2 Rockford Fosgate 200W 4O SVC subs, or is it too much power?
steve9271  May 19, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings Stephen, and thank you for your question. Technically the R2-500X1 has too much power. Each sub will get roughly 50 more watts than they are rated for, but finding an amp with 400 watts will be challenging. If you keep the signal clean (low gain) the extra 50 watts to each should not be a problem.
hogan  May 19, 2023 (Staff)
Q
Where is the fuse installed?
kevin  Dec 16, 2022
1 answer
A
The fuse for this amplifier would be installed in-line on the power wire connected to the vehicle battery.

Is this amp start stop compliant?
scott  May 28, 2022

A
Hey Scott, thank you for reaching out to us and that is a great question. That Rockford mono amp is not start stop compliant.

Q
Spaeker A+ and B- for wiring bridged? Like on other fosgate models. No clear wiring diagram anywhere. On the amp it only shows a place for 2 speakers, but speaks of mono power at 2ohms, Please explain.
scott  Sep 22, 2021
2 answers
A
This is a mono amp, so it can't be bridges. It's basically bridged internally. The amp has two sets of speaker terminals. The two positive and two negative. Being that the amp is mono, both of the positive terminals connect to the positive output internally. Same with the negative. So it doesn't matter which positive terminal you use if you are only hooking up one speaker. They just give you two terminals to make it easier for you to hook up another speaker. Let's say you have two 4 ohm subs. You hook one up to one set of the positive and negative terminals and the other to the other set of terminals. Being that the terminals are at the same point internal to the amp, you have now basically hooked the subs up in parallel, so the amp would see a 2 ohm load.
keith  Sep 22, 2021
A
A and B are just convenience connections they do the same thing, just pick one. I used A.
jeff  Sep 22, 2021
Q
Can an R2-500x1 amp be wired to 8ohms?
shawn  Feb 13, 2021
3 answers
A
Yes it can, but you will NOT get the full power from the amp at all whatsoever. Not 100% sure but at 8 ohms you would be only able to use about 1/4 the available power, since this is a two ohm amp. (I am running mine in a 4 ohm configuration netting me about half power.) Not worth it at 8 ohm total waste... but it can be done. The really important thing is to never ever go lower than what's rated. 2 ohm+ is safe to run on this amp. But do not ever go lower than 2 ohm. And do not turn the gain up if it is too quiet at 8 ohms cuzz you will burn your subs with a clipped signal.
anthony  Mar 27, 2021
A
Yes, you can wire an 8 ohm speaker to the amp. With one 8 ohm speaker, the power output will be around 125 watts at max power.
keith  Feb 15, 2021
A
Yes. But thats a terrible idea. Its stable at 4 & 2 ohms. Going to 8 will diminish your performance... and improve your chances of damage to the amp
john  Feb 13, 2021
Q
Does the wired punch level remote adjust the gain? Or is punch level a bass boost type feature?
ryan  Oct 14, 2020
4 answers
A
It is a bass boost, like an equalizer. I don't know the exact band, but you can still clip the signals if too aggressive with it. As the manual says, only touch it after everything else is kosher, and really just to fine tune, don't go crazy with it.
anthony  Mar 27, 2021
A
The remote boosts the Bass at 45 Hertz 0 to 12 db. Gain is only adjusted using the gain pots on the amp.
keith  Oct 17, 2020
A
It adjusts the gain. So if you have your gain on your amp set to 50% power, a 20% turn on the knob will result in 10% power, while if you have your gain set to 100% on your amp, a 20% turn will make your gain 20% power.
brian robert  Oct 14, 2020
A
From what I can tell its a gain control. I have one bridged across (2) 2ohm Rockford 12s. This amp is stable at 1.5 ohms and provides more pwr than the subs need.
john  Oct 14, 2020
Q
I am think about buying this amp and had a question on wiring, will I be able to convert the speaker wire in my car to rca with a speaker to rca adapter? It must I use the included speaker level wiring harness?
robert  Jul 22, 2020
2 answers
A
You most certainly can, it's exactly what I am doing. The harness is 100% optional.
anthony  Mar 27, 2021
A
Yes there is such a device its called a line output converter
manuel  Jul 22, 2020
Q
I bought a Rockford Fosgate P3-10" sub and I'm gone wire it parallel for 2 ohm. Where do I connect the positive and the negative on this amp when there's an A connection and a B connection. I was thinking I connect the Positive to the A positive and the negative to the B negative connection?
eddie  Jun 22, 2020
3 answers
A
Check the wiring wizard on rockfords website.
jeff  Jul 03, 2020
A
A And B are just parallel connectors for convenience. Is the sub dual voice coil?
jeff  Jul 03, 2020
A
Since this is a 1 channel amp it won't matter where you connect it the reason for the amp having A and b is when you have two woofers. You can go ahead and just plug it to A or B you will not see a difference
alinson  Jul 03, 2020
Q
How do I wire this to output at 2ohm on a single sub? 4 ohm dvc wired in parallel?
matthew  May 24, 2020
2 answers
A
If you have a 4 ohm sub you cant. The DVC is already set up to run at 4 ohms when both are used. Using only 1 VC will result in an 8 ohm (or really close to 8ohm) set up. I have (2) 2 ohm subs bridged across this amp. The set up is close to 1 ohm and the amp is stable and strong.
john  Jun 04, 2020
A
This amp has provisions to hook up two speakers. Being a mono amp, both positives terminals are the same connection. Both negative terminals are the same connection, so all you have to do is hook one of the voice coils to one set of positive and negative terminals and the other voice coil to the other set of positive and negative terminals. This will give you your two ohm load. You could also wire the voice coils in parallel and hook them up to one set of the positive and negative speaker terminals. The result is the same.
keith  Jun 04, 2020
Q
Does this require signal processor, or will high input work?
austin  Apr 27, 2020
5 answers
A
High input will work
ellerick  Apr 28, 2020
A
I ran the speaker wires from my factory head unit to the high level inputs. No line out converter or additional processor needed.
keith  Apr 28, 2020
A
Yes this amp has both high and low level inputs. You need remote wire with low level inputs though.
jeff  Apr 28, 2020
A
Hi input will work.
john  Apr 28, 2020
A
I'm using the night input on the amp and it's working just fine.
jeremy  Apr 28, 2020
Q
Can the remote level control be disassembled and panel mounted with just the knob?
jason  Mar 03, 2020
1 answer
A
From what I saw of a YouTube video review on the amp, you should be able to disassemble the knob from its housing to panel mount just the knob.
