Overview

Our take on the Rockford Fosgate T16

Intense performance
Rockford builds their Power line of speakers for the true car audio enthusiast. The Power T16 6-1/2" speakers utilize advanced design elements to ensure that they'll deliver superior sound in your vehicle for a long, long time. The lightweight polypropylene cone is reinforced with strong carbon fibers so it'll keep its shape when you're pushing the speaker hard. You'll hear accurate midrange and bass reproduction, while the 1" aluminum dome tweeter makes the high frequencies sparkle. These speakers will handle up to 70 watts RMS so connect an external amplifier to get the most out of them.

Rockford Fosgate innovations
Rockford uses their proprietary VAST™ technique to increase the cone area of the T16 without increasing the size of the basket. This larger cone gives you deeper lows and more power handling, and it's supported by a durable rubber surround that's designed to last a long time. The slots around the frame make it easier to install these speakers if the factory holes are slightly off, and they even come with plates that allow them to fit into oval speaker openings.

Note: The oversized terminals on these speakers won't connect to a Crutchfield wiring harness. A free 10-pack of female quick slides that you can splice onto our harness will be included with your speaker purchase.

Great speaker.

Pros: Great sound. Crisp highs. Clean mids.

Cons: None.

Great until they failed after 1 year

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers started off working well- just after 1 year they started to fail and now need replaced. The original setup was professionally installed with JL amp, Clarion equalizer, and Kicker compact subwoofer. For the price of these speakers one would think they would last more than 1 year. I listed to mostly classic rock at a medium volume- nothing that should cause a problem with this level of speaker. Attempted to contact RF who was no help because the warranty was only for 1 year. Will not be buying any other products by RF in the future. Very sad.

Pros: Good sound quality when working

Cons: Poor quality, short lifespan, ZERO technical support.

Replaced speakers in RV. Very clear great sound. Don't expect a lot of bass. Excellent upgrade.

Pros: Nice solid speaker with great clarity

These are my first set of RF speakers. I got a set of components for the front as well. Definately very nice! They are hooked to 100w per channel rms Sony amp and handle the power quite well. Very loud and very clear. Good mid bass as well. When combined with my subs these make for an incredible system.

Pros: Sound great, affordable, loud and clear.

Cons: None thus far

get them for your ride asap :)

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had to replace a blown speaker in my Frontier, and I figured that if I was gonna get in there then I might as well make it count. These were the best speakers I could find without a mortgage, and they are worth every penny. The built in tweeter screams. I want to know how they get bass out of such a small speaker! They fit behind my door panels in the stock location, and wiring was fairly simple. All I had to do was cut the stock end off and put some connectors on there and hook them to the speakers. Too easy.

Pros: Great sound, easy to mount.

Cons: These dudes are heavy. I know they are small speakers, but they are 4 times heavier than the stock ones. These dudes have a huge magnet on them. I think I can feel it when I open and close the door lol.

Features

Injection-Molded Woofers: The woofer cones are injection-molded carbon fiber and polypropylene. This molding process assures a uniform cone thickness for superior linearity and clarity. It is also light weight and rigid for decreased distortion and improved bass response.

Butyl Rubber Surrounds: The butyl rubber surrounds dampen unwanted harmonic distortion while maintaining linear geometry under extreme weather conditions. This leads to less distortion, superior frequency response, and superior durability.

VAST Surround: The Vertical Attach Surround Technique (VAST) increases a speaker's effective radiating cone area without increasing the size of the basket.

Tweeters: Each speaker features a 1" Aluminum dome tweeter for outstanding dispersion and clarity. The tweeters are angled so you can direct them toward the listening positions.

FlexFit Basket: The Flex Fit frame utilizes slots (where possible) instead of single screw sized holes; allowing slight adjustment of the speaker when mounted.

StampCast Basket: The T16 features StampCast steel baskets for added rigidity.

Mounting: While Rockford Fosgate calls the T16 a 6" speaker, they are sized to mount in standard three-hole and four-hole 6-1/2 applications. They can also be easily mounted in 6-3/4 applications, but because the extra screw holes create an air leak in the larger opening, speaker baffles must be used.

Multi-OEM Adapter: For mounting flexibility, the included brackets can be modified to fit 5x7, 6x8, or 6x9 applications.

Note: The bracket is generic (cutout sized for a 5-1/4) and requires modification before the T16 will fit into it.

Speaker Terminals: These speakers have 0.25" wide positive (+) terminals and 0.187" wide negative (-) terminals, which are too large for the vehicle-specific speaker harnesses supplied by Crutchfield for many vehicle applications. It is recommended that a pack of assorted female quick slides (item number 120FQS10PK, sold separately) be purchased and spliced to the harnesses to adapt them to the speaker terminals.

no, you can get the adapter or just use the one that came with your vehicle by splicing in the proper wire, that has always worked for me. [ Norman  Nov 07, 2017 ]
No I didn't, fit snuggly in the original hole and plugged in to factory ends [ scott  Nov 05, 2017 ]
i dont remeber that. but it was not an easy fit as i had yo make some morw holes in the frame to fit those speaker. n one more thing i wont recommand those as the sound n specially base is not good enough..i had the 2nd pair as kickers and they sound amazingly good.. n loud think base. as compare to rfp...i used more for almost 2 years n kickers r the best so far.. [ Atekah  Jul 13, 2017 ]
I just measured mine and it's 3" from the magnet to the highest point of the tweeter [ Mike  Jul 13, 2017 ]
I think you want to know if the 6" will handle power I say yes. [ scott  Dec 16, 2015 ]
Thanks for your question. For information on selecting the best amp for your system I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.
