Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)
Nice unit that provides a great sound via the existing speakers
Pros: Easy installation Great sound
Cons: none found yet
If you've invested in a 4K TV and Blu-ray player, you need a receiver that lets you get the most out of them. The Onkyo TX-NR676 supports 4K and HDR. Want realistic, dynamic sound to match that lifelike picture? This receiver decodes Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, for the most immersive surround sound you'll hear outside a theater.
On top of all that, you'll have loads of music at your fingertips — playing in multiple rooms if you like — with convenient control through your phone or tablet.
Built-in Wi-Fi lets you access the music you have stored on your networked computer so you can easily play tracks from your personal library through the 'NR676. Chromecast built-in (requires a firmware update, available now) lets you use your computer, phone, or tablet to stream music from over 100 audio apps to the receiver.
Use the Onkyo Controller app to control streaming from your mobile device. Apple® AirPlay® lets you stream from a compatible iOS® device or from any computer with iTunes®. And Bluetooth adds even more wireless music options.
Outstanding audio performance is an integral part of the 'NR676's design. A premium 32-bit/384kHz digital-to-analog converter gives you crystal-clear reproduction of music, TV, and movie soundtracks. Dynamic Audio Amplification delivers massive power with low distortion for thrilling movie sound effects. Phase-matching Bass Enhancement lets you enjoy deep, satisfying low frequency effects while vocals and dialogue remain clear.
This receiver also decodes high-resolution audio formats. And Onkyo's Music Optimizer improves the sound from compressed audio files and Bluetooth streams, so you get clear, detailed sound no matter how you listen.
The 'NR676 has outputs for nine speakers, allowing for flexible speaker configurations (but remember, its seven channels can only power seven speakers at once). If you're happy with 5.2-channel surround sound in your living room, you can use the receiver's powered Zone 2 outputs to connect a pair of speakers for stereo sound in another room.
You can also connect a stereo receiver or amplifier through line-level Zone 2 connections and use the 'NR676 as a preamp, for full 7.2-channel surround sound in your home theater and stereo sound in a second room.
A second HDMI output lets you watch the same video source in your main zone and a second room. Start a movie in your living room and finish it in your bedroom or kitchen. Or watch the same content on a TV and projector in the same room. Use the Onkyo Controller app to control playback in different zones from anywhere in the house.
The 'NR676 is also compatible with Roon, a subscription digital music player you download to your smartphone, tablet, or computer. It gives you multi-room audio playback for all your Chromecast-compatible devices and more. Roon accesses your digital music collection from your iTunes library or NAS drive. It also works with your TIDAL subscription. Roon lets you do deep dives into your music, showing artist bios, photos, reviews, and lyrics. Roon can also suggest other artists and songs based on your selections, making it easy to discover new music you'll enjoy.
Product came very quickly and in perfect shape. I'm happy that it was so easy to setup with the multiple connectivity points. But the main reason for buying from you folks is the support team you have. Always happy to help me with my questions and very patient with me. Thanks so much! Philip

Nice unit that provides a great sound via the existing speakers
Pros: Easy installation Great sound
Cons: none found yet
For the money it's a great receiver. I love the on screen menu. It makes setup and making changes a breeze. I love the input buttons on the front door quick easy access. The companion mobile app to control over the network could use some work but it's still useful and convenient. The audio and video are both great. I have it connected to JBL Arenas in a 7.1 setup, and the surround sound works accurately, and sounds awesome. But I've found one major flaw in it, the HDMI-CEC functionality. This is the reason I give it 3 stars. It works when I reset the receiver to factory settings and enable this option (why is it disabled by default), but only for a few days to a week then stops working. It took me a while to determine if this was a problem with my Samsung Q6fn TV, the HDMI cable, or this receiver. After weeks of troubleshooting I found it was the receiver. Every single time I reset to factory defaults and enable the setting it starts to work again. I contacted Crutchfield support, but they couldn't help. The rep was focused on the TV and barely touched the receiver. That's disappointing as I purchased this unit here instead of elsewhere for the 5 star support we're supposed to receive. I'm trying to contact Onkyo directly but they're impossible to get a hold of. This is all very disappointing. I think this receiver may be discontinued at this point but keep this in mind when considering this model or it's newer models.
Pros: Cost, features, convenience
Cons: HDMI-CEC doesn't work, support
Seems reasonable for the price.
Pros: Price, ease of use
Cons: Power (however it wasn't surprising considering the price)

Pros: Easy to set up
Cons: Still looking but can't find any yet.
Everything I expected. Easy to set up. Great sound, great picture. Had to recalibrate to be able to hear dialog but so far so good.
Pros: sound & picture
Cons: large boxy profile
Exceeded my expectations. Very easy to use. Love that I can play music from my phone with ease. Sound is excellent. Also purchased it for 250 off
Pros: Easy to set up and operate
Cons: None that I can see yet
3 months and the receiver turns on and off, on and off and I can't use. This is my first Onkyo and my last I buy. Don't buy Onkyo.
Pros: Good receiver for 3 months.
Cons: Rare sounds in the speakers during the time I use and then death.
Nice system. Always had Onkyo. needed an upgrade for the newer TV's. Easy setup, sounds great. Low pricing.
Excellent value for the money.
Love this receiver. I'm upgrading from a non-4k HDR receiver and love it so far. Very easy to set up!!
Pros: Price, features, easy setup
Cons: None so far
2nd Onkyo I've bought. Very happy with product. Set up was easy. Only down side would be the basic manual.
This unit was very easy to set up. The pier digital sound and picture that results from it being the HDMI hub are amazing. The automatic calibration for the surroundsound worked flawlessly.
I thought I was making a budget compromise buy not buying a more expensive receiver. It turned out this model met my expectations perfectly. The Onkyo Tx-NR676 sounds great and has all the features I needed. Great buy!
I had the Onkyo TX-509 which was a good system. But the Onkyo TX-676 is Awesome, it has the right features. I am very please with this system. The sound is great. I made the right choice. Easy to set up.
Do not be afraid to call tech support at Crutchfield. The basic set up is ok the advanced set up even with the video step by step is incomprehensible. I spent about 8 hours trying to figure out how the pass through was not working the tech had me running in 30 seconds. Auto does not mean auto. Also the NET MODE on the receiver will not work with 63% signal strength from you WiFi. I bought a Netgear WiFi extender all the pandora and amazon music problems went away. The pass through directions are very unclear even with the advanced web site instructions. Direct tv will not come on with the receiver off if you do not set it up properly. Also "DIRECT" is what you want for sound mode. That's how you get Dolby and DTS ATMOS ETC. hope this helps.
Pros: Pass through picture is very good. Not sure if 4K is 100%. Works good with LG OLED TV.
Cons: Setting up the net mode was not easy with a wireless WiFi signal strength has to be above 63%. Advanced set up instructions are really weak.
I am thrilled with the sound quality from the Onkyo TX-NR676. This is my first truly A/V receiver, replacing my trusty old JVC which I loved for its class A amplifiers and range of inputs (it's still as good as new, it was just time for an upgrade). As usual, I read all the manuals before my new receiver arrived so I had strategized the replacement process and bought the new cables I would need. Most folks don't realize what the back of a modern receiver looks like once you've attached all the speakers, cables, fiber optics, power cords, antennae, etc. I use bare wire connections for speaker cables and found the attachments here a little awkward because of the limited space. The setup went very well and the calibration using the included microphone was a fun experience. I'm very happy with the result - my music and movies rock the house! I already had zone 2 speakers in the upstairs master bedroom and have used them more with the Onkyo than I ever did as "B" speakers with the JVC. Cabling to my television is much less cluttered and my wife loves the ease of use since I also added a Harmony remote with activities.
Pros: Well-packed, straightforward setup, great sound, easy to use
Cons: Awkward bare-wire speaker connections, volume numbering could be reset where normal room level wouldn't start at 66 out of 100 (doesn't affect sound or power, just a semantic problem)
Good design + plus excellent features.beautiful price
Sounds great, everything works great(once we had good tech support). The only minus is how hard it was to connect the speaker wires-yikes!
It is difficult, if not impossible, to cram this much versatility into something without sacrificing simplicity. Onkyo came close. I'd give 4.5 stars if I could. Only the awkward angle of the speaker outputs (not a problem if you're using banana plugs) and the somewhat labyrinthine menu system (not a problem if you have a straightforward setup) keep me from giving this unit a perfect 5.
Pros: Plenty of inputs and customization options. Chromecast built in.
Cons: Speaker outputs are awkward and menus could be more intuitive.
Excellent price , quality, and fast shipping
Pros: Pretty much everything I needed
Cons: Haven't found anything
Had an Onkyo receiver in the past. This was a newer slightly upgraded model. Does everything I intended it to do. The team at Crutchfield was awesome during the entire purchase process.
Quality product at a reasonable price.
Nice unit. Relative easy setup. Would have given 5 stars but the User Guide material is atrocious. If you already know how to do things it probably makes sense, otherwise it is useless. Can't find anything better on the Onkyo website either.
Cons: User Guide material is atrocious
Crutchfield Online Support was very helpful in my decission making before purchasing. Set up was easy once I received the receiver and sounds great so far!
Seems great besides these two issues which appear to be somewhat wide spread: 1. hdmi arc issue, not getting sound with video. Have to use digital optical cord. 2. The much bigger issue for me is the streaming functions with the app. It's been very glitchy and inconsistant. Some days I've had to give up as it won't detect receiver, than what seems out of nowhere it starts working again. I've updated twice to latest firmware, tried reinstalling app, setting system back to defaults and re running intitial setup. Nothing has fixed issue. That said it's been 2 days since last problem. When it happens it seems to last a day. Sent for an exchange for the avr-s940 denon. Really wished this worked because I really like the sound I'm getting paired with an elac debut 2.0 setup. For the price, this wouldn't have been beat. As I said It's been 2 days since last issue with app not detecting receiver. I'll hold onto for a couple more days. Maybe it's resolved itself.. I'll update if that's the case
Pros: Sound quality and options at this price point
Cons: Arc is finicky per other reviews and my own personal experience. App is glitchy rendering the streaming feature somewhat pointless.Crutchfield response on 9/26/2018 : Jon contacted our Customer Support team and exchanged for another receiver. Purchases from Crutchfield can be returned or exchanged within 60 days.
This Onkyo TX-NR676 receiver has brought real surround sound to our outdoor Tiki Bar. Our old Onkyo receiver did not have HDMI capabilities, so upgrading to the new one has really improved the sound and picture quality for the big screen. The 2 zone / 2 source feature allows us to play music around the pool area through landscape speakers and the football game at the tiki bar at the same time. We love it.
Pros: Great sound for a great price 2 zone / 2 source
Cons: Have not found any yet
The receiver is working great. Both picture and sound using all devices has improved. Your employees are fantastic! Thanks again Woody!
Amazing product. Easy setup. Family really enjoys it.
Didn't realize the options a new receiver would offer over the one it replaced. Really nice unit allowing every "today" option you can think of. Very happy with this purchase and Crutchfield service.
So far very happy
Simple setup. Excellent sound. Bluetooth and WiFi work seamlessly. And Crutchfield sales, price, and support is unparalleled. I will never purchase anywhere else. Thank you Crutchfield!
Pros: Too much to mention. Price, free shipping, service and support after the sale.
I upgraded to the new Onkyo but the old one is easier to work. My zone two , chromcast and my Bluetooth don't work
Pros: Look pretty
Cons: Can not get all functions to work
Excellent receiver. More than adequate power for my needs. Replacement for an older Onkyo.
Awesome for the price.
Bluetooth is not working. All what I need is to send music from my phone to the speakers. Bluetooth stopped working
Cons:Crutchfield response on 9/10/2018 We were unable to locate an order for you. If you purchased this receiver from Crutchfield, feel free to contact our Tech Support team. They can help you solve the problem or set up a return within 60 days of purchase. Lifetime tech support comes with every Crutchfield purchase.
Extremely easy to set up, very flexible in how it operates, nice wifi, Bluetooth and Appleplay features. I'd buy this AV receiver again.
Pros: Very capable, easy set up
Easy setup, IOS App works well. I replaced my 545 with this one, and remote. app, Alexa all connected right away. One thing I noticed was that you need to turn it up much more to get the same volume, but I guess thats all relative. Bigger display is also very nice.
Pros: Easy setup
Cons: very large volume curve
I love the receiver. so easy to just use the receiver to control the tv functions. i put my amazon fire stick in one of the slots, makes it easy to watch movie and such that way too. The best part, i have full rich sound for everything the tv has to offer. Crutchfield made it so easy, I will use them again.
Unit is worhing well as expected.
Excellent reciever. Setup is easy and the sound is amazing
Pros: Great sound,easy setup
Great product for my purposes. I wanted an amp/receiver to power Bose 251 speakers on my boat. My two requirements were 100 watts per channel and blue tooth connectivity. This product is way over the top for my needs, but the price is right. Also, it is easy to use. If you connect to a TV, it steps you through setup, but it is really not needed. It is very intuitive. The only thing that I have not yet figured out is the sleep function that is mentioned in the manual, but not explained.
Pros: Easy setup Great sound
Cons: It is a little larger than I wanted.
Easy to use and easy to set up my wife ist tech savvy and she is able to use this receiver with ease.
Pros: Set up time Amount of hdmi imports Airplay
Cons: Have had for a year none so far
If I were rating just the TX-NR676 unit only, then it would be 5 stars. This unit is a great value and all features that I have tested work very well (with the exception of the remote). The Start Up Wizard makes set up easy. On the negative, the Basic Manual provided is inadequate if you want good explanation of zone 2 operation and definitions of the various listening modes. Plan on downloading the Advance Manual from Onkyo. No big deal - I actually prefer the pdf file on my desktop anyway. My real complaint is with the remote. It is very basic - requires two hands to select Zone 2 or Main operation (mode button plus zone 2 button). No way to control other components either. For example, cannot turn TV or Satellite receiver on or off. I ended up purchasing an Onkyo remote RC-898M. It works very well. In fact, I now have it set up to operate a Samsung TV, Samsung BD/DVD, Directv Satallite receiver, and a Roku Express. Truly a universal remote! I purchased this unit from Crutchfield and I rate them 5 stars. I called them when I became dissatisfied with the original remote and the customer service representative paid for my new remote even though I had to buy it elsewhere. I didn't expect payment nor did I ask for it. I called customer support just to be sure that the different remote would work. A real class act! TX-NR676 and remote RC-898M a great combination.
It does the job well, and it "talks" to my other reciever in the family room. Can't ask for much more.
Pros: Tyler did a great job listening to what I wanted, and what this unit was going in to. Nice match.
Cons: It takes a while to tweek it to the sound you want, rather than the one it wants to give you. They could simplify the options a bit.
I just recently upgraded our 20 year old Nakamichi receiver for a new Onkyo TX-NR676 AV Receiver. Despite the old receiver still working great, I wanted to be able to play music via Bluetooth and the other online streaming options available on this particular unit. This unit offered ALL of the options that I desired, plus more!
Pros: Quick Install and Setup, Ease of Use, Simple interface
Having worked in electronic for over 25 years you sometimes run into a service issue on the equipment. I lost video within 20 minutes of hook up. The issue became a non issue with one quick call to Customer service. I had a new receiver the next morning and had a return authorization printed out and ready to place on the defective receiver box. I had run various test to make sure the issue was the receiver and not my HDMI or my TV or any other connection. What I appreciated was no second guessing Just a " you have an issue and we will resolve it. Happy with this receiver, the price, the flexibility. I have been happy with the whole experience with Crutchfield.
Pros: Simple hook up, clean lines .
Cons: Very basic instructions and difficult with no trouble shooting info. Technical Service at Crutchfield makes up for lack of info in box.
The receipt of my Onkyo TX-NR676 was speedy and set up was pretty simple. Along the way, I received some helpful assistance from the Crutchfield staff for the settings. Once up and running, the unit has performed flawlessly and provides ample power in a fairly large room.
Pros: Pleased with the versatility of the unit which also includes phono input
Cons: None so far
I bought this unit to replace a 7 year old Sony STR DN1010 unit. I had the previous unit setup in a 5.1.2 configuration, (front high speakers). I am running the same Infinity speakers I had with the Sony, all listed below 55" Samsung 1080P tv. Just changing receivers I am still in awe as to how much better this system sounds. It is very easy setup, has plenty of input & outputs. The calibration mic not only sets up the appropriate levels for the speakers, it also picks the low pass filter frequency to give you the best sound! Very easy to setup and use. The only issue I've had is occasionally when streaming bluetooth audio the sound will skip for a minute and then pick back up, but a software update seemed to correct that. Amazing unit for the money! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_108P363BK/Infinity-Primus-P363.html?tp=185 https://www.crutchfield.com/p_108PT5PIIB/Infinity-Primus-Theater-5-pack-II.html?tp=184 https://www.crutchfield.com/p_108PS212BG/Infinity-PS212-Black-grille.html?tp=187
Great sound, easy to use.
Just finished installing my new A/V system so I don't want to rate this all the way at the top before having some time to use it for a while. But my first impressions are favorable. I am using the Onkyo TX-NR676 with Polk Audio Signature S60 front speakers, Polk HTS-10 subwoofer and Polk Signature S35 center speaker. Right now I have not made up my mind about the rear speakers. Having trouble with physically wiring them in my situation, so right now I set up as a 3.1 system with subwoofer. Components are a Samsung MU6000 4K, UHD TV, Sony UBP-X700 4K bluray player, a Kenwood 200 CD changer, an Audio Technica AT-LP120-USB turntable and an old JVC double cassette deck. Newer A/V units like this one have moved away from supporting cassette decks and I don't see any Audio outputs I can use to record to the cassette deck but I have not wanted to do that for years anyway. It is RARELY used. I also have a Cable TV box connected. The receiver has phono inputs and a USB input and my record player supports both. Right now I'm using the phono inputs. One thing I did want to do, but found out that I can't, is Bi-Amp my front speakers. Well, let me clarify... The Onkyo supports this in 5.1 surround mode, but not if you want to drive a second pair of speakers in Zone 2. I have two speakers in another room that I use for playing music from the CD player on. Oh well, maybe I'll change that situation in the future. Tried the BluRay with Jurassic Park and sound is GREAT.
Pros: A lot of connections for various devices
Cons: Can't Bi-Amp front speakers if you have zone 2 setup.
I been listening to music and video on Yamaha receivers for more than 20 years. They were more powerful than this Onkyo and sounded great, but with my last Yamaha receiver the remotes constantly died and I needed to replace them often, bummer. Receintly the Yamaha died, so it was time to make a change. I saw this Onkyo advertised at Crutchfield, read the reviews and since I now live in a condo I thought this would be enough power and a good fit with my system. I really like this receiver, great sound and great surround sound seperation. Need a little more time, but I think I will end up give this a 5 star review in the near future.
Pros: Great sound, great surround sound seperation!
Cons: None so far.
we really like this receiver
Onkyo TX-NR676 does not keep settings after initial settings are complete. Have to redo initial settings multiple times as my settings are undone constantly. Zone 2 does not work with or without a dedicated external amplifier for zone 2, even though zone 2 speaker testing (where you get a hiss sound) is successful.
Cons: the receiver does not retain settings. zone 2 does not work.
Great price, better performance!
Pros: Great quality Performance is spectacular
Excellent receiver ... amazing set of features given the price on this. The sound quality from my tv has improved dramatically. The product was shipped very well packaged.
Let me first start out this review by making the confession that I had always avoided Crutchfield for purchases simply because I was always concerned about damage in shipping. I live in a rural area and dirt roads and potholes are the norm and most items I order are dust covered before I get them. Our UPS driver has destroyed more than his share of packages we've received. The receiver was wrapped in a dust free plastic. I knew if there was any damage, Crutchfield's customer service would take care of me. Regarding the unit...I replaced an Onkyo unit (Dennon before that one). This Onkyo has more features than I'll ever use. I won't bore you with the technical specs, but setup was a breeze. Sound quality is great. I couldn't be happier. My experience with Onkyo has been nothing but absolutely positive. One of the best values out there for the features you get. This is a unit that can be a great first starter, but can also grow with you as your home theater expands. A+++ experience from Crutchfield as well.
Pros: Value, quality, features
Very happy with this receiver and the Onkyo App works great to control it. Great sound and easy to setup. I can watch Netflix and TV in the family room while listening to Spotify on the patio. Crutchfield answered all my technical questions prior to purchase.
It has been 10 years since my last receiver. I really love this unit. I like being able to have multiple HDMI source. I've watch Blue and DVD several movies on it now. Nice experience. For the price point you won't be disappointed. Other makers with these same features can't be touched for under $500.
Pros: -HDMI inputs -Price -Google Home Integration
Cons: If Receiver is located in wiring closet, sound mic can't work
Great sound and easy setup!
Love this receiver! Great sound, easy setup and it solved my zone 2 issues!
Product came on time and well packaged. Easy to set up, great sound. This unit is well worth the price.
Excellent receiver. It was very easy to set up and sounds great.
Just the type of receiver I was looking for. Bi-Amp capability is fantastic.
Great receiver! Set up was a snap! Brought my Bose speakers to life! The picture on my 4K tv is dynamic!
Pros: Ease of set up, sound, picture quality
Very easy to setup, very easy to enjoy. Extremely good amp.
Pros: Very easy set up.
Cons: Need a tv for setup, even if intended as a stereo amplifier.
I needed a replacement for an old Sony receiver which lost the front left and right channels. This was an affordable replacement with many more features. The setup was easy and offers an additional perk of having the ability to run another set of speakers for another room in the house. It also offers Play-Fi which can wirelessly run another remote speaker. I plan to put a wireless speaker down in my workshop area in the basement. The features of the receiver are many and there is an input for every type of device. The speaker outputs can handle a 7.1 set up but I don't run it in that configuration. So far the operation has been flawless and the sound has been excellent. I had called a Crutchfield Tech to discuss features on several choices and ultimately decided that this was the one for me. It has been a great purchase and I look forward to many years of service.
Pros: Many inputs for every type of device. Wireless output for remote speakers Speaker outputs for a second room Ease of setup with an intuitive remote Has a phono input
Cons: None so far
Quality product. Does way more then I need but does what I want it to do it does very well.
Excellent product, excellent price and great service from Crutchfield.
Pros: Great receiver at a great price
Crutchfield has some fantastic support.....so there is that. The product itself works great!
Pros: Works great
Cons: Heats up a bit
Great customer service online! Easy set up, great quality, great price. Second one I've bought in 10 years.
Great receiver at a great price. Sound is excellent
Pros: Sound quality, features and price
Cons: None yet
A definite punch up in sound handling from last received (Kenwood THX), especially in rear surrounds: very pleased so far. Minor notes: would have preferred a zero display option in the dimmer settings and the manual was not helpful on audio channel/hardware assignments.
Pros: Delivers clean sound to rear surrounds
Cons: Display dimmer lacks zero display option and user manual lacks audio channel assignment: took some digging around on display menu.
Nice looking. So far everything working as expected.
Wow! Orded on Thursday. Received on Friday. Great price! This receiver replaced my older Txnr636. The reason I replaced it, was because the 636 did not have the late night setting. It is supposed to compress the lauder sounds and make the dialogue clearer. I don't know yet if I can hear the deference. It was a breeze to set up. Beeing tech knowledgeable. But anyone can set it up. Just follow the on screen instructions. I was a Yamaha fan for years. So. when the Dolby Atoms became available, I purchased the Txnr636 . Witch I have been enjoying. For years there has been debating about sound differences between audio components, but I wasn't convinced .Well. When I hooked up the 636 to my existing speakers, the sound was clearer to my fading hearing. I'm now a Onkyo Fan!
Works great and has all the features I need
Overall, fantastic value for the price. Well built with a great selection of features. Areas that weren't stellar were lack of power plugs, knobs feel "plastic', noticeable delay when using connections to bluetooth and airplay.
Pros: Features Price Build Quality User interface
Cons: Knobs feel "plastic" No power plugs for other components
Replaced an older Onkyo with this one to run 4K. this is my third Onkyo. They have always been very good so why change. Crutchfield has great support if there are questions and are prompt and courteous. As in all receivers, I would like to see a little more space between the speaker connections. I recommend using banana plugs rather than bare wire. Just easier to connect in the tight space. everything else is just fine.
Pros: nice clean display, good sound and picture quality through the unit. Solid history with Onkyo
Cons: All receivers need a little more room between speaker connectors.
Easy to hookup, worked well
So far it's great much better than the Sony it replaced will update if anything changes
Pros: Sounds good great adjustments and tweaks.
Cons: None so far
Great receiver this is the second one I have owned, great price really recommend this receiver.
Great amp, sounds clean, but at 100W at 8 ohms I was expecting a little more power. I have a high ceiling 20x20 room and I find myself running the amp at a volume setting of 85% for movie viewing. Otherwise it is a solid device!
Pros: Easy set up and clean sound
Cons: A little underpowered for my 20x20 room.
Easy set up great features for the price. This is my 5th unit out of this line up that I have purchased over the years for myself and other people.all still working great!
Great receiver this is the second one I have owned, exceptional quality and function.
Good unit for the price. No 5 since the zone 2 output does not work with HDMI inputs. It does work for sending audio to house wide amps when additional audio cables are used. Crutchfield service reps are great. Very knowledgeable and friendly.
Pros: Good value.
Cons: Zone 2 output does not work with HDMI inputs.
Love the ease of setup and use. All the bells & whistles I will ever need.
Great receiver and works great. Very easy to set up to all components. Did have a few issues but a simple phone call to Crutchfield and they walked me through the process. Couldn't have been easier. With the added technical help i wouldn't buy from anyone else. Oh ya, thief pricing was comparable with other stores so you get the great product and help for the same price as a store that does nothing for you.
After several weeks of research I selected the Onkyo TXNR676 for it's features and reasonable price (Crutchfield had best deal). I've dealt with this vendor before and as in the past they were knowledgeable and informative. The receiver works as advertised and gets my 100% thumbs up.
Pros: As advertised
It was a pleasant surprise on cost, performed as expected, no problem install would recommend
Pros: easy install
Brought my Pinacle BD Series speakers back to life ! Easy ste up and user friendly. Do wish it had more digital sound plug ins.
Pros: Sounds great ! Easy set up, user friendly and lots of options .
Cons: Not enough digital audio ins.
Got a smart TV, now I have a smart stereo receiver.
Very impressed with this unit. It sets up quickly, good variety of streaming options, and zone 2 flexibility is a big plus for running to my outdoor speakers. I especially enjoy the fact that I can control the receiver volume with my TV remote with no reprogramming. The unit is plenty loud for my space and the amount of audio options is impressive. Decent for music as well, though obviously not the same quality as a dedicated stereo unit. On board EQ helps a bit.
Pros: Easy set up. Very flexible. Lots of hookup options. Great movie sound.
Cons: Music sound good, not great.
I'm not real tech savvy but onkyo made it easy to set up and program my other gear also makes my older speakers sound great and the dude I called late one evening at crutchfield was very helpful. Great receiver!
Pros: It's all good
Power and clarity of sound at all volume levels. Easy setup.
Simple and effective. Easy to hook up with a walkthrough wizard.
Very simple setup and amazing features! This receiver has brought so much to my existing home theater system. And for the price. this unit can not be beat!
Pros: Great price, looks great, easy to use!
Easy set up. Sounds great. Price was right. Happy.
Very easy set up. The sound is great and having multiple HDMI ports was a huge step up from my older system.
Pros: Easy set up
Cons: Haven't found any so far
i love the sound it has and all my hdmi inputs have a spot but the display generated from receiver that goes on sreen of tv would not work on my panasonic 37 in plazma.I haven't tried all features yet.
Pros: sound great i haven't tried all features yet.
Cons: display doesn't work on my old plazma tv had to use a newer model tv what a shame. Said onkyo display from reciever would not work on my operating system.
I have a 55" and a projector and have been looking for a nice receiver to output the hdmi to both, as well as have enough hdmi inputs for all my equipment, and this receiver took care of all that! Amazing sound and interface. Best receiver I've owned!
Awesome reciver-with plenty of power!
Onkyo delivers exceptional sound and power. My 7.1 JBL system is booming!!!
List of shortcomings is too long to list here. I bought the unit on Crutchfield's recommendation that I needed "multi-zone" unit to drive the number of speakers I use. After careful set-up, and 2 trips back to retailer for further explanation, I still cannot engage Zone 2. What's that about?
Cons:Crutchfield response on 6/19/2018 Once we saw this review, our Tech Support guru, Cris, reached out to this customer to help him further. We'll either help him get the receiver working the way it should, or help him return it for an exchange or refund.
The speaker setup was perfect for our large living room. The surround sound and Pandora have come alive. Internet functionality was poor. I would buy again as price point was great.
Good sound, after I got it all set up and used the really helpful automatic feature to balance the speakers. And, lots of HDMI inputs and a phono input for my turntable. BUT the two Composite Video inputs were useless because they required re-setting the quality of my video output from my older devices (a VCR and a WII), and I can't do that. Fortunately for me, my TV has two composite inputs and an Audio Out that I ran back to the Receiver, so it all worked out in the end. The Onkyo Play-Fi software works well on my iPhone, although I can't use Dolby Surround when streaming to it. Really helpful to have a Logitech Harmony Programmable Remote, (as I have for years), to make all this stuff work together.
Pros: Competent receiver with a phono input available
Cons: Composite video inputs may not work witholder equipment.
I've had this reciever in use for about a month now and absolutely love it . It was a smoking deal ,and pretty easy to set up. Very nice upgrade over my old Onkyo reciever.
Pros: Has all the features I was needing for newer components
Cons: Doesn't have connection for my cassette deck ,hooked it up in the aux. and it works fine
Great Sound, easy to install but I did have an issue understanding how to get it to work with Comcast. Crutchfield techs were great helping me with my user. It was a user problem. It really was great how the speakers automatically balanced to the room. Great picture and awesome sound.
Pros: Great sound Great Picture Reasonable Cost
Cons: Needed help from Crutchfield to finish the setup. They were delighted to help.
Great little receiver - easy automated setup and room configuration.
A nice upgrade to the Onkyo receiver that I purchased from Crutchfield 10+ years ago. Easy set up. Interfaced very nicely with the new LG OLED TV. Pumped out plenty of juice to the 5.2 (high rear) setup. The room optimizer set up really is special.
Pros: Outstanding quality over gimmicks.
Cons: None that I have seen.
Awesome , the sound is Way better then the Sony that I was replacing The sales person was very knowledgeable and took his time explaining the pro & cons of various receivers until I settled on the onkyo
Very easy setup and speaker calibration. Best sound i have had out of an AVR. With the latest digital processing, im hearing background sounds on movies and TV shows that i never noticed before.
Pros: Great sound, Easy Setup, plenty of HDMI ports.
Cons: Speaker terminals could have used a better design and are a bit close together.
We have an older whole-house system. We were running all of it via 2 amps daisy chained. The load was still too heavy and everything shut down constatnly. This solved it all. We are running it as a straight stereo amp. It is powerful and the flexibility/ease of use is amazing should you want to use its full features. Soleved our problems and more.
Pros: Flexibility, sound, ease of use.
Cons: Manual could be clearer on the deeper menu stuff.
Great reciever awesome sound
Pros: Great sound at a great price
Replace my old Yamaha. Great sound and price.
Pros: Everything perfect. Just problem with ARC 4 years old Sony TV.
Cons: Nothing yet.
Set up and functional in 15 minutes. The Onkyo phone app allows multiple room control from a smart phone. Multiple music streaming options. Easy to use, sounds great. Would definitely recommend.
This is my second Onkyo receiver. The first one I had gotten 11 1/2 years ago with a home theatre system was good until it died recently. The newest Onkyo NR676 produces a much better quality sound from instrumental to vocal. I tested it using my Pandora account with Direct TV and the sound was amazing. My only challenge I had was getting all my 8 speakers connected to the back and adding the optic cables for the TV and the blueray player. But once everything was installed and I used the installation mic , the sound balance was excellent. I really like the Onkyo products, from the receiver to the speakers. Plus I got this unit at a great sale price. Garrett, of the Crutchfield sales staff was great to work with. He listened to what I wanted in a receiver and helped guide the decision to what I selected. I have purchased a number of electronics with Crutchfield over the years and they still continue to provide excellent service. They remain my first choice to buy any electronics.
Pros: Fast Delivery within one day. Price Excellent Product quality. Knowledgeable sales staff.
not hooked up yet
Bought this to replace an aging Sony AV receiver I've been using. Sounded great, but ended up having to return it because it didn't have the connections I needed for my remote speakers. If this unit has the connections you need, you can't go wrong, especially for the price!
Pros: Sound quality, price
Cons: May not have all the connections needed
This is a great addition to my home theater. Still fine tuning my speakers but getting close and sounding great!!
Awesome sound, great definition
Pros: Easy to install, works great , a beauty!!!
Great produce and knowledgeable customer service.
Second Onkyo, this one so easy to set up.
Pros: Easy set up great sound good price
Cons: When you plug head phones in no one else can hear sound
I previously owned a Denon receiver, and hated it!!! Took it back and got a replacement, and that one as well failed me. This time I called Crutchfield and talked to Sam, his suggestion was this one by Onkyo. Happy customer so far.
Pros: Too new yet.........
Cons: None so far
Excellent product. Set up was very easy.
Zone 2 didn't work and had to exchange it. Then the app didn't work correctly and kept shutting off. Also zone 2 will not play tv/cable through hdmi as told from onkyo rep.
Pros: Can play different sources through zone 1 and 2.
Cons: After getting app working. Is responds slow at times. Especially annoying when adjusting the volume.
Perfect, does the 4K bit.....now I have the full ability to use my 4K Samsung TV, along with the new 4K Comcast modem. Now to get the industries to start providing more 4K videos and movies. The Onkyo TX-NR676 has all the things I need......could have bought something else and not been any better off. Thanks
Pros: 4K, remote control easy to learn, quiet when I turn TV and receiver on.
Cons: Manual, like many manuals hard the figure out some things. Still trying to get old VCR and Disk players hooked up, I haven't used them in 8 years but decided to start with this receiver.
This is my third Onkyo receiver, after losing two due the Hurricane Harvey flooding...GREAT product!
I recently purchased a new VIzio TV with HDMI audio output. I paired it with this receiver, and I love it! On screen set-up was easy via HDMI to HDMI 1. Dedicated HDMI for cable as well. You can connect to a network and play music as well. There are various listening modes to choose from depending on your ear. You can add zone speakers to accommodate others in different rooms. 2 Polk Audio Towers 2 Polk Audio Surround and a Sub woofer. This receiver is very nice!
Pros: Easy on screen set-up, Variety of inputs, great sound, wireless
Cons: none so far
Easy setup, great sound at a great price. Love it !!
Haven't had a chance to hook this nice receiver up in my new construction build yet. The price was right with the sale that crutchfield was having.
Pros: Price. Ability to have second zone for my patio is the reason for this purchase.
This Onkyo receiver is great. Far superior to the Yamaha I had before it, AND easier to use.
Pros: Makes my Klipsch speakers sound the way they are supposed to.
Great receiver for the price. Easy setup, works great with all my other equipemt. Arc feature is flawless
Pros: Easy setup
Cons: None that I feel are worth noting
Great replacement for my old Yamaha! So far so good. It's only a month old and I noticed a big difference in sound, an also having 4K capability.
Pros: Nice power and 4k capability
Cons: none so far
Performance specs are great, although I've had numerous minor headaches with its set up that add up to a less than satisfying experience. One big issue is that it consistently turns itself and the TV back on after we turn it off. Repeat 5x. Very annoying. A second big issue was that the bluetooth functionality suddenly stopped working about 2 weeks in, it connected with my phone, but no sound came from the speakers. Ditto with any other phone. Again, not an issue I want to have to troubleshoot and spend time on with a product two weeks old. Solved the bluetooth by doing a factory reset, but the issue about turning itself back on is something I just don't have the time/energy to troubleshoot at the moment. All that said, the app for controlling it works pretty well and I love the 2nd zone which I have set up for my outdoor patio. Really nice feeling to sit outside and turn on music from my phone (now that bluetooth is working again).

Setting up Zone 2 to work with and without zone 1 is more complicated than it should be.
I've only had it a short while, but it was easy enough to set up, and it does what it is supposed to do so far. The setup software for the speaker arrangement was especially useful and user friendly.
Absolutely amazing, makes set up super easy, video and sound quality is perfect, would definitely recommend
Product is great.
Pros: Everything is ok
Cons: no cons
Very helpful techs getting every thing up and working ,techs were very good at getting Zone 2 working.
Received this unit fast and was great price , sounds very good , better than my other one year old Onkyo . I do like both but this one is a little more powerful . Easy setup , Bluetooth works flawlessly. No complaints so far only have had it for two weeks.
Pros: Easy setup Sounds good Works as it should
Never got to hook it up yet but packaged in original box with detailed instructions. Overall looks like kon y well spent
Outstanding piece of equipment ! The features on the Onnkyo TX-NR676 works great on streaming
Awesome receiver. I actually was considering returning it because i was having issues getting it set up. But a call to the Crutchfield technical assistance team and some little fine tuning my mind was changed. It sounds great
Pros: Sound is incredible
Cons: Some issues with the setup however I'm a hardheaded man who doesn't read directions.
I would say it's a great product! The people at crutchfield are very helpful and knowledgeable. They will answer all your questions and won't put you in a product you don't need!
Purchased as an upgrade to 15 year old receiver. sound quality, fantastic.(Cambridge Speakers). Love all the bells and whistles eg. Dolby Atmos, Dolby True HD, bluetooth, I/O connections galore. "'nuff said"
I'm very pleased with the purchase of the Omkyo TX-NR676 receiver. It is just what I needed for the components I have. The price was also great. I would recommend it to anyone. Great Purchase.
I am very happy with this purchase. Good price and a wide variety of features. I had a two-zone receiver which should have allowed me to hear my music through the Bose speakers on my porch. For an unknown reason there was some magic combination of efforts which had to occur to make that happen, perhaps sunspots? the Onkyo only requires that you press a mode button and Zone 2, and there it is. It also features Bluetooth, and a variety of other ways to play your musice from almost any device. Excellent sound, simple interface.
Pros: Five available HDMI IN jacks, two zones available to play from one or two sources, Bluetooth, network connection, many listening modes to adapt the sound to your home configuration, and a speaker microphone to correctly set up your speaker responses.
Cons: None so far!
Solid build. All the options. Unit has plenty of power for 3 sets of speakers including 2 sets of paridigm speakers from 1995. You do not need the remote to run the receiver. The price point from Crutchfield was great.
Pros: See above
Cons: No complaints.
Very nice array of I/O..This is my second TX-NR676, in which I purchased Onkyo Refurbished "4less". Came packaged like new. Unpacked it and did the initial setup, firmware update and calibration on Polk SW550/Monitor 40 II/CS10..The system sounded absolutely great at volumes under 60. Over 60% volume there is much distortion, so much as to have blown both tweeters simultaneously. "NG" Status "Bad Transducers". Exchanged for new speakers and a new receiver (I was sent a brand new one this time), same funky distorted, speaker blowing sound. I hate this purchase with a passion. By the way, I made sure to have 2 fans constantly running on top of receiver at all times...this thing still gets hot and randomly clicks, clicks and clicks....SMH..Never again Onkyo with all of your faulty caps and boards.
Pros: Nice selection of ins and outs ARC works well Connects all of your gear
Cons: Bad quality from a supposed high-end company Gets hot Power seems crappy/low Fuzzy speaker blowing distortion, clicks often for no reason, inadvertently mutes connected devices
I used this Onkyo to replace an older Surround Sound amplifier, and am very happy not only with the features and performance , but the price was right.
Great sound love the Bluetooth
Major upgrade from my 20 y/o old receiver. Easy to connect, preforms great! Difference in sound in both video and audio sources is amazing.
Great customer service, great features, including a much desired phono input! Great price
Nice unit to replace an old 15+ year Yamaha unit. Set up was a breeze with the microphone setup, balanced out everything very close. Even tho the sub was distanced to close to the listening position it was easy to adjust manually. I was also able to bi-amp my Polk speakers with this unit since I don't have enough speakers for a 7.1 setup. This unit works with my TV also by turning on and off with the TV via the hdmi arc, which results in never forgetting to shut off the receiver. I have yet to play with the music streaming capabilities. Overall nice unit for my needs.
Pros: easy set up
This system is the best! Missing a hdmi cable though, but the product is just awesome.
Very happy with this receiver so far. I prefer the large physical buttons on the front as opposed to knobs for input selection. Easy for my wife or kids or others to select the input. It is easy to change the digital label on the inputs (ie, Streaming Box button says ROKU on the led display). The more simplistic remote is so much better than older receivers Setup interface was great and very easy to use. It walks you through the process, my wife could have done it. All the settings are available on-screen which makes it super easy to change or adjust settings without having to get out a manual like on older receivers. I currently only have two bookshelf speakers connected as we are remodeling our basement (ELAC B6) and they sounded pretty good initially. Once I used the built-in calibration, it helped reign in the bass a bit and tightened up the sound nicely. Video processing works well from analog to digital. Pass through features work great: I have a roku connected through the usb power and hdmi and our kids can watch on the TVs speakers without having to turn on the receiver which is behind child-proof cabinet doors. ARC features work great with our TV and I can easily go between TV sound or receiver sound depending on what we are watching (usually receiver because TV speakers suck). Only issues I had were with connecting to chromecast (spotty showing up on my network, once I did it worked fine) and bluetooth seemed to have pretty choppy playback whenever I
Pros: Sound, Inputs, Video processing, User interface, remote
Cons: Bluetooth issues, Chromecast connectivity, size
Great receiver! Bought this Onkyo to replace a Denon that did not have a pre-amp and found the set up to be easy for my minimal skills. Love the features and ability to fill our big high ceiling room with sound!
Lasted 2 years, and 9 months. Long enough to be out of warranty. Picture quit coming through on all outputs. Second Onkyo receiver I have had, and they only seem to last just past the warranty. Will not buy another Onkyo.
Pros: Does a good job
Cons: Quit working just after warranty expired.
I HAVE THREE ONKYO RECIEVERS LOVE THEM ALL!!!!
Pros: EASY TO OPERATE, EXCE;LENT SOUND, FABULOUS FEATURES, LOTS OF JDMI CONNECTIONS
Great receiver. I very strongly recommend it Lots of HDMI inputs and all of them are HDCP 2.2 capable. One thing I will warn about though...If you're using screw type banana plugs make sure the top part is srewed down all the way or the receiver will see it as a shot and shut down. My old Sony receiver didn't seem to mind it.
Pros: Plenty ofHDCP 2.2 HDMI inputs.
Cons: Shuts down if scew type banana plugs aren't completely screwed together
I guess I got a lemon :( Every time I try to listen to a movie this thing shuts down. When I turn it back on it goes in a diagnostic mode and then says to check the speaker wires. I'm using banana plugs not bare wires. And the same speakers, wires, and banana plugs work just fine on my old Sony STR- DH-750 receiver.
Pros: Lots of HDMI inputs all HDCP 2.2
Cons: Keeps shutting off
I bought this AVR to replace an Onkyo TX-NR5008 AVR that costs about four times as much. Why? I needed an AVR that could playback 4K DVDs and had Dolby Atmos capability. After a lot of analysis and Googling I bought the Onkyo TX-NR676 AVR from Crutchfield. The Onkyo TX-NR676 works great. After using the included microphone to setup the surround sound speakers with new ceiling speakers for Atmos, the surround sound is awesome! One caution though - I currently have a Panasonic TH65PF9UK 65 inch commercial plasma TV that uses a DVI connection and the Onkyo TX-NR676 menus to setup the AVR were not passed through to the Panasonic TV. Thus I had to use a 22 inch Samsung LED TV so that I could see the menus to setup the Onkyo TX-NR676.AVR. I have a new Samsung 75 inch QLED TV coming to replace the Panasonic plasma TV and that will solve this problem. Note that I don't remember having this problem with the Onkyo TX-NR5008 AVR.
Cons: doesn't pass through the menus in a video format that works with my old Panasonic plasma TV
This is my 3rd Onkyo reciever from Crutchfield. It is an upgrade from a 9 year old unit. Love all the new technology (bluetooth, wifi, etc.) and buying from Crutchfield is always a pleasure. Sounds great, works well in my home theater.
Pros: Easy hook up and set up.The onkyo controller app is great for zone 2 speakers in another room.

Dynamic Audio Amplification: The TX-NR676 AV receiver features Onkyo's Dynamic Audio Amplification with a 7-channel amplifier rated at 100 watts (into 8-ohms, at 20Hz-20kHz, with 0.08%, driving 2 channels). Onkyo's new Dynamic Audio Amplification technology incorporates a Hi-Current, non-phase shift amplifier design with discrete output stage circuitry and a H.C.P.S (High Current Power Supply) capable of driving 4-16Ω speakers with dynamic control, while producing clear, detailed sound.
Amplifier Assignment: The 7-channel amplifier can be configured in a variety of ways to match your type of speaker setup.
Dual 32-Bit DSP Engines: The Onkyo TX-NR676 AV receiver employs powerful and highly accurate 32-bit DSP (Digital Signal Processor) engines for better surround sound reproduction.
384kHz/32-Bit Hi-Grade DAC: The Onkyo TX-NR676 utilizes one premium-quality AK4458 digital-to-analog converter from Asahi Kasei for all channels. This 384kHz/32-bit DAC implements unique low-distortion filtering technologies for clear sound, and unlocks the full potential of any audio format, including compressed, lossless, and hi-res audio (MP3, WMA, WMA Lossless, FLAC, WAV, OggVorbis, AAC, Apple Lossless, DSD 5.6 MHz, LPCM, and Dolby TrueHD).
Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry (Front Channels Only): Onkyo developed Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry (VLSC) to reassemble the signal in its original form following processing. Unlike conventional filters, VLSC removes pulse noise generated in D/A conversion, allowing the sound wave to be reproduced with extremely high fidelity for a smooth analog signal. The signal's data is converted between sampling points and joined with analog vectors in real time to produce a smooth output wave form. The result is a virtually noiseless, smooth, analog signal that brings out even the most subtle of nuances in music sources.
AccuEQ w/ AccuReflex: AccuEQ conducts two measurements: (1) it measures and sets the distance, sound pressure level and crossover of your speakers and subwoofer to ensure all channels are treated equally (2) it evaluates your room's sonic characteristics and adjusts your speaker's frequency response to prevent standing waves from forming. AccuEQ incorporates AccuReflex technology to align the phase of upfiring "height" speakers with the sound coming directly from your other speakers. Any delay is resolved so that everything arrives at your ears at the same time. The result is cohesive reproduction of object-based soundtracks. You can save up to 3 AccuEQ presets. The included microphone plugs into the front-panel of the receiver.
Note: You can choose bypass the AccuEQ for your front speakers or all speakers, and manually set the distance, crossover, EQ, and level of each speaker.
Compatible Digital Audio Formats: The AV receiver supports the following stereo & multichannel digital audio formats through its HDMI jacks and optical/coax digital inputs.
|Digital Audio Connector||Audio Signal Type||Audio Signal Format|
|HDMI||2Ch Linear PCM||2ch, 32-192kHz, 16/20/24-bit|
|Multichannel Linear PCM||8ch, 32-192kHz, 16/20/24-bit|
|DSD||2ch, 2.8 MHz, 1-bit|
|Bitstream||Dolby Digital, DTS, DTS ES, DTS 96/24|
|High Definition Audio Bitstream||Dolby Atmos, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, DTS:X, DTS-HD Master Audio, DTS-HD High Resolution, DTS Express|
|Optical/Coaxial||2Ch Linear PCM||2ch, 32-96kHz, 16/20/24-bit|

Immersive Surround Sound: The Onkyo TX-NR676 AV receiver goes beyond regular surround with the latest immersive surround sound formats, including Dolby Atmos, Dolby Surround, DTS:X, & DTS Neural:X.
Onkyo Original DSP Modes: Onkyo's Original DSP Modes, combined with Dolby Digital & DTS processing, produce more realistic, powerful sound effects for your movie and music sound tracks based on the type of content and your home theater setup. You can choose from the following:
Direct Mode: In Direct mode, audio from the input source is output without surround-sound processing. This mode delivers pure sound with minimum sound quality adjustment and filtration.
Audio Enhancements: The Onkyo TX-NR676 receiver provides various audio enhancements to deliver a high-quality listening experience every time.
Bass Management: The Onkyo AV receiver offers Tone Control, Phase Matching Bass technology, and a Double Bass feature to get the most bass impact out of your system.

Phono Input: The Onkyo AV receiver is fitted with a Phono (MM) input and ground terminal for connection of a turntable, so you can enjoy listening to your vinyl records.
Front-Panel Aux Input: The TX-NR676 is fitted with a front-panel 3.5mm Aux input for connecting a portable audio player.
HDMI 2.0a: The Onkyo TX-NR676 has seven HDMI 2.0a inputs (6 rear/1 front) and dual HDMI 2.0a outputs. The dual HDMI outputs can simultaneously output the same HDMI audio/video signal to two TVs (video is output at the resolution supported by both TVs). Thanks to the latest HDMI 2.0a specification, the receiver can support 4K/60 Hz Ultra-HD video, HDCP 2.2 compatibility, 4:4:4 color sub-sampling, High Dynamic Range (HDR), and BT.2020 Wide Color Gamut.
Note: Use a premium high-speed 18Gbps HDMI cable for the best 4K/HDR performance.
HDR (High Dynamic Range): HDR (High Dynamic Range) video provides enhanced picture quality by simultaneously enabling greater detail for both the dark and bright parts of an image. HDR reproduces a greater dynamic range of luminosity or brightness levels, creating greater contrast. This increased contrast reveals the subtle nuances of the image, from detailed blacks and shadows to the brightest whites and colors, plus greater depth. This receiver supports two HDR formats - HDR 10 & Dolby Vision.
Analog Video-to-HDMI Conversion: Analog composite and component video signals (480i only) input to the receiver will be converted to HDMI signals and then output from the receiver via its main HDMI monitor output to your TV. The resolution remains the same and is not upscaled.
Other HDMI Features: The TX-NR676 AV receiver's HDMI connectivity also offers 3D video pass-through, ARC (Audio Return Channel), Deep Color & x.v. Color support, as well as an auto LipSync function.

Analog Video Inputs: The receiver features two composite video inputs and two component video inputs which support 480i video signals only. All analog video input signals are converted to digital and sent via HDMI to your TV at 480i (no upscaling). The component video input are not capable of high-definition video.
Video Select: It is possible to play audio and video from different sources. For example, you can play audio via Bluetooth and video from your BD/DVD player. This function is only effective when an input with audio only (Network, Bluetooth, or Tuner) has been selected initially.
Wired or Wireless Network Connection: The Onkyo TX-NR676 AV receiver supports a wired Ethernet (RJ-45) or wireless WiFi (802.11 a/b/g/n; 2.4/5GHz) network connection. Via the AV receiver's network connection, you can enjoy music files stored on your computer and listen to internet radio through a variety of online music services.
Note: Network setup requires that the receiver be connected to your TV via HDMI for display of the on-screen menu. The receiver's network setup cannot be accessed through its front-panel display.
DLNA Certified: Because the TX-NR676 is DLNA (ver.15) certified, you can play back music files stored on your Windows PC (w/ Windows Media Player 11 or 12) or a DLNA compliant media server through the stereo receiver. You can control basic playback functions of your music library from the included remote control and receiver's on-screen menu; such as Folder/File Select, Play/Pause, Stop, Fast Forward/Rewind, Previous/Next Track, and Repeat/Random. USB Mass Storage Class: This AV receiver is equipped with a rear-panel USB (type-A) port that allows you to enjoy a variety of music files from a USB mass storage class memory device, such as USB thumbdrive or portable digital audio player. The unit will recognize USB MSC devices formatted in FAT16 or FAT32 with up to 20,000 music files. You can control basic playback functions of your music library from the included remote control and receiver's on-screen menu; such as Folder/File Select, Play/Pause, Stop, Fast Forward/Rewind, Previous/Next Track, and Repeat/Random. USB portable audio players that can be charged via USB will be charged when plugged into the AV receiver's USB port (5V/1A); even in standby mode. Compatible music files include -
Notes: USB hubs and USB devices with hub functions are not supported. MP3 players containing music files that are managed with special music software are not supported. Apple iPod/iPhone/iPad and Android devices are not supported via USB.
Zone 2 (Line & Speaker Level): In addition to the main listening room, you can also enjoy audio playback from a different source in another room of your home using the receiver's Zone 2 function. The receiver features Zone 2 line-outputs, as well as Zone 2 speaker terminals. The volume of Zone 2 is controlled from the receiver when using the speaker outputs and from your add-on integrated amp when using the line-level outputs.
Zones 2 Sources: You can play the same audio source in both Zones (Main & Zone 2) or play a different audio source in each zone. Zone 2 is compatible with analog, digital, and wireless audio sources - see below for details.
- As for Network, USB, and Bluetooth sources; you cannot select different inputs for the main room and Zone 2. For example, if a Network source has been selected in the main room and then Bluetooth is selected as a playback source in Zone 2, the input in the main room will also change to the Bluetooth source.
- When listening to AM/FM radio, you cannot select different stations for the main room and Zone 2.
Dual HDMI Outputs: The AV receiver's dual HDMI outputs can simultaneously output the same HDMI audio/video signal to two TVs (video is output at the resolution supported by both TVs). This is not the same as Zone 2.
Google Home Multiroom: Using the Google Home app for Apple iOS 8.0+ and Android OS 4.0.3+, you can sync multiple speakers with Chromecast built-in in multiple rooms of your home to play the same song from a Chromecast built-in music app throughout your house at the same time. Friends and family can even use their own Chromecast compatible phone or tablet to cast music to your system by connecting to your home's WiFi network.
DTS Play-Fi (Firmware Update Available): DTS Play-Fi combines DTS and WiFi to wirelessly stream high quality audio through out your home using the Play-Fi app for Apple iOS 8.0+, Android OS 4.0+, & Windows 7 PC or later. Supported music formats up to 24-bit/192kHz (including MP3, AAC, FLAC, WAV) are wirelessly streamed to the receiver at up to 24-bit/96kHz (Critical Listening Mode) or to multiple DTS Play-Fi players up to 16-bit/48kHz (CD quality sound). You can connect multiple DTS Play-Fi products together from different brands and manufacturers on the same home network to create a whole-home streaming experience. Play the same source in every room or a different song in each room. Due to the bandwidth limitations of most wireless networks, no more than 16 wireless DTS Play-Fi products on a single WiFi network at one given time is recommended. DTS Play-Fi has a range of up to 100' from your wireless router. Compatible sources include -
Note: All DTS Play-Fi enabled products work seamlessly together, so there's no hassle adding more components, or choosing more than one audio brand like Klipsch, Martin Logan, Definitive Technology, Polk Audio, Phorus, Wren, etc..) in your home.
FireConnect MultiRoom Audio (Firmware Update Available): FireConnect powered by Blackfire mirrors network audio sources and any external analog source playing through the receiver (from streaming audio to vinyl) on optional FireConnect/Blackfire wireless speakers (such as the Onkyo NCP-302, sold separately). Sampling rates up to 48 kHz are supported. FireConnect powered by Blackfire is stable, fast, and easy to control with Onkyo's Controller app for Apple iOS and Android.
Note: Make sure the Onkyo receiver has the latest firmware/software update installed. Onkyo cannot guarantee the compatibility with other devices featuring FireConnect or Blackfire.
Onkyo Controller App: The Onkyo Controller app (for Apple iOS 8.0+ & Android OS 4.0.3) features an intuitive, user-friendly interface that allows you to conveniently operate the Onkyo receiver from your compatible Apple iOS or Android device. This app not only has the usual remote control functions, it also has a multiroom functionality for Zone 2 and wireless multiroom audio setups.
Google Home Voice Commands: With the Google Home voice-activated speaker (8064658762, sold separately) and the Google Home App (for Apple iOS 8.0+ or Android OS 4.2+), you can use your voice to control select functions of the Onkyo AV receiver. With a simple voice command, you can play music from Chromecast compatible music services by artist, song, genre, album, playlist, mood or activity. You can also turn up the volume, skip to the next track, or stop the music - all without lifting a finger.
IR Remote: The receiver comes with an IR remote control for wireless operation of this receiver and other HDMI-connected sources (via HDMI CEC).
HDMI Control: This function allows HDMI-CEC compatible components or RIHD-compatible components connected via HDMI to be controlled with the TX-NR676. The AV receiver offers the following HDMI-CEC controls.
Web Control: When connected to your home's wired or wireless network, you can setup the Onkyo AV receiver with the web control screen displayed in your PC's web browser.
On-Screen Menu w/ Setup Assistance (HDMI only): The Onkyo AV receiver offers an on-screen (GUI) menu system through its HDMI output. The simple on-screen display combines text and graphics that make setup and other operations extremely easy. The initial setup assistant takes you step-by-step through speaker configuration, source connection, remote programming, and network connection.
Note: Initial setup requires that the receiver be connected to your TV via HDMI for display of the on-screen menu. Many of the receiver's setup functions can only be found via the on-screen menu and not the front-panel display.
Gapless Playback: Many live and classical albums have no gaps in the music. Gapless playback ensures that there are no pauses between audio files. This provides playback with no interruptions, the way it was meant to be heard. Compatible with WAV, FLAC, and ALAC music files via USB.
Name Edit: You can enter a custom name for each individual input selector and radio preset for easy identification. When entered, the custom name will appear on the display. This function cannot be used for the AM/FM, Network, USB, and Bluetooth input selectors.
Display Dimmer: The front-panel display brightness has three settings - Dim, Dimmer, and Normal.
Timers: The receiver features a programmable Auto Standby function & programmable Sleep Timer.
Firmware Updates: Future firmware updates are available from the Onkyo website through the receiver's Network or USB connection. Visit Onkyo's online Download Center for the latest firmware updates.

I chose the Onkyo TX-NR676 because it is one step better than that which my brother had and he was very satisfied with his Onkyo. Also Crutchfield made a special purchase of the TX-NR676 since it is being replaced and offered an excellent price for it. [ Marc Aug 16, 2018 ]
I chose the Onkyo over the Sony STR-DN1080 because of the amount of analog audio inputs. REMEMBER; when shopping these receivers, typically the digital audio inputs do NOT play through Zone 2. This is a very important detail that you need to consider when attempting to mate TVs with receivers with listening spaces. [ Nick Aug 16, 2018 ]

The TX-NR676 does not feature a multi-channel RCA pre-amp output for connecting an external amp to power speakers in the main theater zone. For that connectivity with an Onkyo, check out their TX-RZ820: www.crutchfield.com/p_580RZ820/item.html [ Ryan Oct 08, 2018 ] Staff
I'm sorry I do not know the answer to your question. [ GEORGE F Oct 05, 2018 ]
The Onkyo 8 series will extract audio for both A and B speakers. Otherwise known as Zone 1 & 2. You can't mix digital and analog in the same room due to the different "processing" times. [ Joseph Sep 26, 2018 ]
The FireStick connets to through HDMI, so virtually any receiver with an available HDMI input will work. I have the Onkyo TX-NR676 which has a dedicated HDMI input labeled "Stream Box" which I use to connect my Chromecast, with the video being fed via the HDMI RC into my LG TV. [ Ahmed Sep 05, 2018 ]
Pressing the Zone 2 button causes "Z2:..." to display for a few seconds. While that is displayed press Zone 2 again to display "Z2: Source". This causes zone 2 to play the same input as the main room, and zone 2 will follow the main room source if you select a different input source. If you want zone 2 to stay on a specific source, press the Zone 2 button followed by a source button (i.e. "Net"). That source can be different from the main room and will not change if you select a different main room source. Also, while "Z2:..." is displayed you can adjust the zone 2 volume with the volume control. [ BRENT Sep 05, 2018 ]
I haven't hooked up this unit yet but I have an older model that I'm still using and if you engage zone 2, you just stay with "source"; if you want a different thing to play, you turn the zone knob to the preferred source [ ROB Sep 01, 2018 ]
Absolutely. The Onkyo is stable down to 4 Ohms on each of it's channels. You'll find this information by clicking the "Details" tab on the receiver's main webpage. I hope that helps My bio: https://www.crutchfield.com/bio/Ryan [ Ryan Aug 31, 2018 ] Staff
I use my Onkyo for music most of the time. It has an aux jack in front that you can plug a smart phone into...but I usually use the Bluetooth for that. I also have a CD player hooked. I do have 5.1 speakers all around and they all work great for playing music. But you can just use two speakers if that is all you have. I love this unit. For the money you cant beat it. [ GREGORY L Aug 24, 2018 ]
Yes. I like this reciever very much. [ Lance Aug 23, 2018 ]
It will (and then some) It has HDMI and optical inputs as well as two subwoofer outputs which a lot of audio receivers don't have unless you're paying about what this receiver costs. [ Darrell Aug 23, 2018 ]
Even if you did care about AV, it would do the trick. It's a great receiver, with great features, whether you use them or not. It is used daily in our house for music, Netflix, or movies. [ Trent Aug 23, 2018 ]
Zone 2 can only take analog audio. So you need RCA red/white cables to come out of your cable or satellite box or DVD or Xbox or whatever. My DVD, though, for example, only had a digital out. So I had to buy a digital to analog converter box - digital cable into the converter and RCA red and white out. It works beautifully now. It's kind of a drag these receiver manufacturers don't have a better comprehension of what people actually need to do. It's a great receiver but you have to do some hacks to get what you want, particularly with Zone 2. [ David Jul 20, 2018 ]
You could if you had a wireless transmitter/receiver setup with your wireless speakers, but there is no built-in function for this. [ Trent Aug 23, 2018 ]
All speakers are wired on this model. [ VENTZISLAV Jul 21, 2018 ]
Yes, but it is fixed full line level, the volume control does not vary the output. [ Karen Jul 22, 2018 ]
Yes it does [ Bubbainc Jul 19, 2018 ]
There is only one ARC HDMI input which carries both video and audio signals. U would need to run 2 cables from one of the v. [ Mark Jul 20, 2018 ]
I am pretty certain this can work. [ MICHAEL Jul 20, 2018 ]
There are several HDMI ports on this product that can support the use of a variety of devices. [ Adam Jul 20, 2018 ]
yes you can , use the 2nd room feature [ richard Jul 20, 2018 ]
Good question! There are outputs for "zone 2" for your outdoor speakers. However, I have had some issues trying to make use of this, and have NOT been able to get the TV sound to come out on zone 2 even though it looks like it should. On other inputs like bluetooth, sound comes in fine on zone 2. If you figure it out, let the rest of us know! [ Robert D Rosen Jul 20, 2018 ]
The Onkyo Owners Manual says the receiver uses 580watts or about 4.8 amps. In standby mode the receiver draws .15 to 5.7 watts, depending upon the standby mode [ BRENT Jul 11, 2018 ]
7.2 channel (100watt per channel) [ JAEYOUN Jul 11, 2018 ]
My sub is connected by a single rca plug. [ DANIEL Jul 07, 2018 ]
I don't understand your question but Crutchfield customer support is awesome. [ Michael Jul 07, 2018 ]
Yes, you can have each zone play its own music source, e.g. zone 2 streaming internet music while main zone watches TV. This also means the main zone can be off while zone 2 listens to an audio source. I have found that using the smartphone app is the best way to manage the zones. It is convoluted using the IR remote. [ Angel Jul 02, 2018 ]
HI Hollywood, I don't have an answer for you at this time. I haven't hooked up the zone 2 speakers yet. That will be done at a later time. I would check the manual for the operation of the zone 2 speakers. [ Heyward Keith Jul 02, 2018 ]
Yes ; call for support [ p Jul 02, 2018 ]
You can play each zone independent or together. If both zones are playing your main zone is limited to 5.1. [ Jeremy Jul 02, 2018 ]
Yes, the two zones can be played separately. [ Kimberly Jul 02, 2018 ]
Yes, that's correct. You can play something different inside or have nothing at all inside [ CHRISTOPHER A Jul 02, 2018 ]

Sorry, I do not know the answer. You should call tech support at onkyo They are in New Jersey. I have called them many times and they are very helpful. The last thing you want to do is short something out and void your warranty Anthony F [ Anthony Jun 25, 2018 ]

For best results I suggest using the best pair of front tower speakers your space and budget allows, a quality center channel speaker,a minimum 10"subwoofer,(12"works great),and two rear surround speakers. This will work for a home theater set up or to listen to any music you want to listen.Be sure to use 12 gauge oxygen free copper wire, for all of your speaker connections!! [ Cleveland E. Jun 11, 2018 ]
Since UPS has been having some delivery problems,my rear Klipsch surround speaker pairs ordered June 1, 2018, haven't arrived yet,so I'm unable to give you a specific answer because my new Onkyo TX-NR676 receiver is not hooked up yet in my den. This is my second Onkyo receiver in 18 years, so in my experience with my current TX DS-777in the living room, it is as close to bulletproof as you can get!! No matter what source material material it plays through my Polk tower speakers,Klipsch center channel speaker, two small rear surround speakers and my Hsu Research VTF-3 MK 3 subwoofer,it is truly a joy to listen to such a clean sound machine,at any level, which makes me very happy! Try changing your HDMI cable to a better cable [ richard Jun 11, 2018 ]
Im not a pro, but this is a hand shake symptom in my opinion. Have you tried a new HDMI cable? Are you sure there is no damage to the HDMI ports on the TV or the Receiver? I just installed the ONKYO and used HDMI extensions, about $5 a piece via Amazon as I have damaged ports before because they the cable had lateral tension. Its not fun when that happens. It could be the Cable box or other input. Does it happen with DVD/Blue player? Apple TV/Firestick/Ruku inputs? Read up on handshake issues. Sorry I can't be more help! Often its trail and error to fix something and a process of elimination. Keep extra cables and adapters to easily switch things out.. You have to go thru each piece and find what works, and what does not. Sorry, this receiver is new to me and I can't remember if you can bypass it, which you should try if possible as it might be the receiver's software. Do things work without the recieverr??? Try lots of things, maybe you get it, maybe not. GOOD LUCK!!! [ Gary Jun 10, 2018 ]
Hey Fred any iPod can be used if using an Aux cord to listen to music. If u have an iPod Touch u can download the app and control the receiver and listen to music through multiple apps by connecting the Aux cord or if the iPod Touch has Bluetooth. Then any iPhone or iPad will work hope this helps. [ Matthew Jun 04, 2018 ]
Yes. Just Bass and Treble - no "loudness" or other tone balancing adjustments. I was surprised that I had to crank the bass way up to reach a sound equal to the Onkyo this replaced. [ Jason Jun 09, 2018 ]

The receiver measures around 7" tall, and I have around 9" in my entertainment center. Been running for 4 months without issue. I do leave the front cabinet doors open however just in case. Doesn't get too hot though. [ Lee Jul 18, 2018 ]
Mine is in an enclosed cabinet with about two inches above the unit. It is behind a closed door and there is a small vent on the back of the cabinet. I have about 1" on each side and about 6" off the back. I have had no issues with overheating. [ maxexn Jun 04, 2018 ]
Don't know [ James Jun 09, 2018 ]
I'd say yes but best to contact onkyo [ Bubbainc Jun 08, 2018 ]
Here's the REAL answer = Yes and No. For example, I've got a Logitech Harmony Elite remote connected to all of my AV gear, including my Onkyo TX-NR676, and I've got my Alexa Echo Show connected to the Harmony remote. When, for example, you walk into the room and say, 'Alexa, let's watch a movie', she turns on the overhead lights and dims them to 10%, turns on the TV and set it to the appropriate input, turns on the Apple TV, turns on the Onkyo and set that to the appropriate input, and then presets the receiver volume to 25. So, while the Onkyo itself does not respond to Alexa, there is an excellent and seamless way to get this to work - Alexa won't talk directly to the Onkyo, but she WILL talk to the Harmony remote, which in turn will talk to the Onkyo. Mine works flawlessly. [ Steve Nov 09, 2018 ]
Unfortunatly its not. [ EDGAR May 31, 2018 ]

You can always push the "info" button on the remote and it will tell you. It will also tell you how many channels are input/output. [ Trent Aug 23, 2018 ]
I believe the answer is yes. [ Jeffery May 14, 2018 ]
you use the surround l/r back speakers for high or use the front speakers for hight in front [ LAWRENCE Apr 03, 2018 ]
Jason, ion the back you would connect your speakers to where it says surround or Height. [ Jim Apr 02, 2018 ]
The hookups are on the surround back/height plugs. If you use heights then you can run 5.2.2 if no heights are used you can do 7.2. One or the other. Check the manual for hookups. Hope this helps [ AARON Apr 02, 2018 ]
My receiver will click when I switch between the input used for cable box and input for Apple TV. No big deal. [ Rod Apr 03, 2018 ]

Absolutely not. Mine is connected to a Klipsch 5.1 speaker system, and in the room where it's all set up, I'd have definitely heard it before. In my experience, this Onkyo is as clear as a bell and twice as true. [ Steve Mar 17, 2018 ]
I haven't heard any yet on mine [ TIMOTHY J Mar 17, 2018 ]

It can convert the video so it can be output via HDMI but it does not convert the audio. My Bio: http://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=101 [ Paul Feb 12, 2018 ] Staff
First, you need the watts that your speakers are equipped to handle. Don't pick a receiver that delivers over 20 watts more than what your speakers can handle. EXAMLE: Speakers are 80 watts - The receiver should put out no more than 100 watts per channel. Hope this helped. [ LYNETTA Jan 19, 2018 ]
I've got Bose Acoustimass 6 Series V speakers and although this receiver is powerful, it doesn't overpower the Bose setup at all. [ Steve Jan 17, 2018 ]
Both of these "content streamers" require a relative fast Internet. The 676 does not have Netflix or Prime software on it per se. But, in my setup, I can run Netflix et al either from my TV, or my BluRay player, my TiVo, or a streaming service (Apple TV, Roku etc.) And your computer can wirelessly "cast" or Airplay Netflix to your system. The 676 is involved in all of this, but it is a conduit to said services. Clear as mud, but feel free to ask a followup if I didn't get the gist of your concern. [ John Sep 27, 2017 ]
You can connect both of those to this receiver along with quite a few other sources as well all at the same time. HTH! My Bio: http://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=101 [ Paul Sep 11, 2017 ] Staff

Yes,that's how I currently use my receiver at the moment. During the initial set-up (or any time thereafter), you will be guided by the Graphical User Interface to select the speaker configuration that matches yours. The GUI is a 3D visual representation of the viewing/listening room. So it is very intuitive to choose your speaker configuration. [ Ahmed Sep 05, 2018 ]
