Bought this radio from your store a few months ago. . . on sale, much less! LOVE IT!!! Takes hardly any space on the kitchen counter. Although it's a mono radio, it somehow manages to provide a stereo-quality sound; I think the station I listen to most (WVTF-FM) contributes to that, since it broadcasts digitally. I think this radio is a true gem. I also play my Sony Discman through it, with similar good results.
Pros: Great value for the money, excellent cabinet quality, great looks

Doesn't hold a radio signal. The sound is great when it's tuned in but after 15 minutes the vibration of the speaker moves the tuner so you lose the signal. Tivoli's fix is to cycle the tuner a few times, but that doesn't work. It's great other than the lousy tuner.

I finally purchased a radio to replace my Sony yellow boom box sports radio. This is an excellent little radio that not only looks "adult", but sounds really great. Played it all day yesterday and it made the day go better. In other words I'm more functional with a radio on. We have a FM station that plays oldies and the best of the current pop/rock/country, so it makes the day flow with a perfect radio going in the background. And this radio is just what I needed.

I bought the first one for my father who passed last year and I inherited it. He loved it and it has a lot of sentimental value. My mom kind of missed it and wanted another one not realizing what they costed. I just told her to give me what she wanted to spend and I took care of the rest and got her a new one. These things sound great and have a great sound from a small retro package. Bill W.
Pros: Retro look and lots of good sound from a single small package.
Cons: All the sound comes from a small package and is limited buy this restriction.

Good design;basically unchanged in twenty years. There's a setting for an auxiliary input & Henry Kloss' name is no longer on the facia. Will make a nice and practical gift!We have our own Model One ,purchased in '04. Also bought a Tivoli PAL at the same time, which i very recently sent to Tivoli for an exchange for another Model One,for a modest offset fee. That PAL lived a rough life, being used on many a job site Being retired,a table receiver suits my current needs better. That little PAL was as rugged as a T-34!tank! Another receiver U might consider marketing is the Sangean WR-11 SE. It's a monaural tabletop aimed at roughly the same niche, although it's a little cheaper.
Pros: Very well made, and no mystery whatsoever about its purpose and operation ! Like it's compactness,UKW selectivity &sensitviy and audio quality.
Cons: MW reception is at best OK. A screw lug for a long wire antenna for MW (AM) would have been handier than the 1/8"jack. A ground connection would be good. However, this is moot,as we almost ALWAYS listen to UKW,as will the receiver's recipient. The signal-strength yellow LED seems inordinately bright.

I like the radio. It looks good, is the right size for my needs, the sound is good, and the controls are simple. In addition, the retro tuning dial works well. The only issue for me is that the knob that controls the function is difficult for me to turn easily. It's stiff and a bit small and the design doesn't allow me to grip it well enough. Other than this, however, I like the radio and the quality of the sound - - including CDs.

High quality table radio
Chet from Media, PA on 9/18/2018
This is my second Tivoli Model One. I've had the first for more than a decade and it is still working fine. The Model One sounds much richer and more powerful than the typical table top radio. The performance of the tuner is good. I am using it in a two channel home theater/music set up. The analog output from my TV goes into the Model One to boost the TV's sound (like a soundbar). The line level output goes to an integrated amplifier to serve as an analog tuner for my stereo system.
Pros: Build quality Sound Versatility

Clean and claasy
Steve from Seattle, WA on 7/15/2018
Excellent sound quality, classy looks. I compared it head to head with a pioneer receiver hooked to a big pair of infinity speakers in the same cabinet. The Tivoli can't match the power, of course, and it has no tone adjustments, but the quality is surprisingly close. And it pulls in my favorite low-power FM station a little more cleanly than the pioneer, which has a bigger antenna. Very satisfied so far (3 weeks).
Pros: Sound quality Looks
Cons: No bass/treble/mid adjustments

This design is a testiment to the genius of Henry Kloss. He was a master of using inexpensive components in innovative ways to achieve sound reproduction that over-performed expectations. The tuning section is decently sensitive and selective. The amplifier will adequately provide a small room with realistic listening levels at reasonable distortion. All analog controls/displays have a decently substantial feel, as does the case. You can judge the aesthetics for yourself... many/most seem to find them pleasing if not impressive. Much EQ/conturing achieves pleasant tone and decent balance in a compact package from a cheap speaker. Porting and tons of EQ will give you some response to around 120 hz or so. There is a lot of bass distortion, which is to be expected, but in most situations it is not objectionable. Nothing really above 8-10 K but the radio does not sound dull; again not objectionable. I find myself quickly forgetting that I'm listening to a small box. The provisions for external input and antenna and welcome. Regarding long term use, these units often have a somewhat finite life and getting them repaired is mostly not practical due to the basic board design. I've not heard better or even comparable for the most part from other designs at the price point. Recommended.

Tivoli Audio Model One
Henry from Tazewell, VA on 9/7/2017
The front end was quite good for an analog tuner. It was reasonably easy to tune in a week station surrounded by stronger stations with the receiver using its power cord as an antennas. The sound was quite good for a 3 inch speaker. However, since there was no tone control, the highs could not be accentuated for speech to be understood by those with hearing loss. This could be a deal breaker, but I coujld not find a better alternative table radio t listen to speech. Also, the tiny knobs were difficult to operate, especially the power switch.
Pros: Good rf performance with both sensitivity and selectivity. Reasonably easy to tune.
Cons: No tone control, speech could sound muffled. Small knobs hard to operate.

Purchased for my 90 yr. old legally blind Mom. Chose this radio because it has so few control knobs. The on/off knob needs to be bigger and have some kind of grip/roughness to the surface. Right now it is too small and slippery to easily grasp. The sound is great, the style suits. The cord is a bit long but that's just where it is located. I will add a wireless outlet switch for ease of use. Thank you for the opportunity to review the radio.

Most affordable high fidelity radio on the market
Robert from Short Hills, NJ on 3/23/2017
I've owned several of these radios since they came out 17 years ago, and have given them as gifts as well. They are one of the world's greatest high fidelity values! If you are an FM radio freak like I am, and especially if you are lucky enough to live near good college or public stations, this little gem will give you many years of pleasure. Sound quality is musical for all genres, rich and full bodied, with a quiet background. Reception (sensitivity and selectivity) is very good, and listenable for many hours. Build quality is solid, and the styling closely resembles Henry Kloss's KLH Model 8 from the early 1960s (that one used vacuum tubes, and the overall sound is similar). Yes, it is mono, but the headphone and line outs are stereo, and if this was my only source of music at home I really wouldn't feel deprived. An amazing way to bring music into your home for a pittance!
Pros: Sound quality, reception, build quality, retro styling
Cons: none at this price

This is a very attractive and well built radio. Audio quality is superb for such a small speaker. FM sensitivity is better than I expected. AM sensitivity is about what I expected, but not quite as good as I had hoped. Frequency tracking is quite good for an analog circuit on both FM and AM. Very good radio. Good reception and excellent sound for its size. Since I have it, weekends are almost all day long tuned on.
Pros: Is very simple to use. Few desktop radios of today give such excellent sound.
Cons: In very distant stations where the signal is weak, wen turn it on and if the unit is cold you have to retune it in 4 or 5 minutes to obtain resepction without distortion. (this problem is regarding about a circuit technically called local Oxilator and is normal in analogs radios).

Not What I need
Hankh from Phoenix, AZ on 11/26/2015
This unit is quite attractive with its walnut finish and well-constructed cabinet. It's heavy, suggesting the electronics inside. As advertised, the yellow light does tell when the signal (on FM) is strong. The radio is compact enough in size to fit most anywhere. The first problem I had with it was when the power cord was looped on itself. Then, despite the feedback filter, static would amplify (heterodyne?) when my body was between the unit and the transmitter. Annoying and puzzling initially, this problem was solved by stretching out the cord. Attempting to find my favorite FM station on the external (analog?) dial was perplexing, as that signal turned out to be higher on the tuner marks than I would have guessed (like 10 points on top of 91.5 to more than 92). As for performance, I suppose I can get by with the voice; turning up the volume helps, but this is not a solution. Yes, I wear a hearing aid, so my experience will differ from others. Both voice and music are "grainy" -- not static so much as just like pulling or driving over gravel. It's just always there. Perhaps I got spoiled by a cheap HD radio ("Insignia" brand), but the Tivoli unit does not deliver what I need. I really don't know what the answer is, other than getting a better HD radio. Yes, I'm aware that HD stands for Hybrid Digital, rather than High Definition per se. I Think this company could have made a really good HD radio for about the same price.
Pros: Well-constructed, attractive cabinet in walnut. Mostly intuitive controls: Switches On/Off, AM/FM (rotary) large speaker maintains fidelity with varying volume. Greed LED says when best (FM) signal received. Logical connections on back.
Cons: Voice and Music quality are grainy (not quite scratchy), though this may be an artifact of traditional FM transmission. Just not up to HD standards, given a good signal. Would be well worth the price with unstinting HD capability. Pricey as is.

I was really glad to find a simple AM/FM radio, without all the frills. And especially one that sounds so good. For economical reasons, I went with the black, scratched and dented. But obviously, it's not scratched, or dented. Absolutely nothing wrong with it. Brand-new, and in perfect condition. Maybe the box was dented or something.
Pros: Small sub woofer type sound; good clarity.
Cons: Really none. Unless you consider having to hook up the FM antenna for better FM reception a con.

Tivoli Model One Radio
DLL from Massachusetts on 3/22/2015
Years ago Henry Kloss made a FM model 18 tuner to play with all integrated amps and his model 11 phonograph. Also a classic Koss was his model 21FM radio. The thing that is great about The Tivoli model Radio is that it has incorporated these two products into one unit. This radio is a superb FM/AM tuner and a radio in one. It has an auxiliary and mixed input for your iPhone or computer. It also has a headphone jack as a variable stereo output for powered speakers or a stereo amplifier. The output is very high stereo fidelity. The record output is a fixed output for a stereo receivers input or also for powered speakers. I have the blue tooth Model one. I like the sound as a stand alone radio but more than that I like the tuner aspect of this radio. I have older stereo equipment and I can blue tooth to the receiver using the output of this radio. I stream most of my music. I listen to tune in internet radio. My lap top blue-tooths some very nice Bose computer speakers through the record output on this radio,as the Bose are not themselves designed to be blue-tooth. So without having to buy blue tooth speakers the Bose are my stereo speakers now with FM/AM thanks to this Tivoli model one. The Model one is worth every penny but buy it with blue tooth because it is still one of the best analog tuners available. It is an excellent product but you need some imagination to fully appreciate it.
Pros: Great stereo tuner, aux input for tablet or computer or phone device, will blue tooth those devises if you buy the model one with blue tooth. Heavy solid mono radio speaker with FM/AM tuner. Excellent built in radio speaker for monaural sound. As a radio it is a classic just as Kloss old model 21 was.
Cons: For the way it is made and what it does I have no cons to report as the product is actually designed with much imagination. It is still fun to own a Kloss product.

I have owned a Model One for ten years. Every time I turn it on,daily, its performance astounds me.Some visitors have said "what is that crappy old radio",I laugh at them, turn it on and let them hear its superb sound.Mainly use mine as a monitor/speaker for my laptop computer and from rock to opera it handles the sounds in a manner which, for its diminutive proportions,is brilliant. In terms of style and performance it excells.Have owned many high end audio products from Europe,USA and Japan but now the Model One is my sole source of music and very very satisfying also.A superb radio.
Pros: Sound,style and construction.
Cons: 10 years of daily use,no problems, still sounds as good as the day I unpacked it from its box.

My thoughts on Tivoli Audio Model One
Mr. Smooth from Pittsburgh on 8/21/2014
Workmanship is excellent! Ergonomically, I feel the pilot and tuning lights should be above the volume and selector knobs. This would make viewing and tuning much easier. Likewise, I would place the sector knob first and the volume knob second. This seems more logical to me, but other users may feel differently. Some things are subjective, so this is not criticism. Also, it would be helpful if the knobs had a contrasting marker to aid in seeing what positions they are in. Tuning is a little inaccurate, but it is livable. AM reception with the help of an external antenna is way better than expected. FM reception, also with the aid of an external antenna is a good as expected. With respect to sound, the bottom end is a tad tubby. I will experiment with placement to attempt to alleviate some of this audio abundance! However, with this effect, voices on AM are more mellow. Also,
Pros: Good physical size. The product looks fantastic! Good value
Cons: No cons for me, but that being said, this comment is for those who do the final inspection. The unit I received had the volume turned to full value. This was quite startling upon initial turn. I certainly wasn't expecting that. Hey, turn it down before you put it in the box!

Nice Quality & Solid Feel To It
Jim from near Chattanooga, TN on 11/14/2013
If you are interested in a simple, quality radio with enjoyable sound for one speaker, the Tivoli Audio Model One is for you. This radio gets good FM reception with its included external wire antenna. You can connect your mp3 player to it, too, to hear your songs without headphones. That was a selling point for me. Be sure to also buy a necessary cord to connect your mp3 player to the Model One. There are no presets on this radio, but that didn't bother me. If you enjoy free-radio broadcasts, you won't go wrong with the Tivoli Audio Model One. I highly recommend it.
Pros: Simple, straightforward design and use. Included antenna works well. Good sound. Geared-down dial is helpful to tune in stations.
Cons: Stations' broadcasts don't match up exactly with the number indicated by the dial.

A good small radio for the kitchen. Sounds pretty good for a 3" single speaker and the tuner works well. Nice and simple. Plug in an airport express to get streaming music there too.
Pros: Simple, small
Cons: Mono, but doesn't matter for listening while cooking.

I live 60 miles from the station I listen to and cannot pickup AM the station also is FM so I strung a 20 foot antenna in the garage to receive FM. Tuner dial is off one frequency level. Crutchfield service excellent as usual.
Pros: Easy to use.
Cons: Built in antennas not adequate for that price radio.

more than I expected
Bruce from Tequesta Florida on 1/17/2013
This radio performs better than I expected from such a small device. A big bonus is that I can use it as an FM radio and as a stereo tuner for play back through the t.v.'s soundbar and subwoofer. That really sounds good. The only complaint I have is that the tuner dial does not point to the correct frequency. On the FM dial I have to tune to 106 inorder to listen to 105. A small complaint but something that should have been corrected at the factory.

Best Ever
K McGovern from Allentown, PA on 6/22/2012
Only 1500 characters, will be concise. Crutchfield: Great vendor; has been for the 20+ years I've done occasional business with them. Model One: Case is superb, almost like it was machined from a single block of wood. Interior was said to have crappy, occasionally rusted components. Maybe it happens once in a awhile, took mine apart, no problems. Commerical grade plastics where used, good quality components, fine workmanship. Analog tuner good and the LED signal indicator is effective. I could see where a Terk antenna would be of value for some; Allentown, PA--not needed. AM sounds great, NO underlying noise as reported. There's no RFI shielding in the cabinet, so a noisy environement could be the culprit. FM selectivity is fine for an anlog tuner, but in a crowded area might be less desirable than a digital tuner. Once you get the LED nice and bright, it holds the station well. Sound is great AM & FM but has a little boom around 100-200Hz as the case is ported underneath. The Top 40 Crowd might like it especially on FM stations, but I set my radio on a thick paperback to close the port and raise it a bit (nightstand is a little too low) which settled things nicely. All around fit and finsh at least as good as advertised, maybe better. Sorry we don't make it in the USA, but it would be twice the money. BUY WITH CONFIDENCE!
Pros: Beautiful case, fine styling, great fit and finish of internals. Tuning LED effective, AM/FM tunes well, holds station. Extremely good sound from high quality speaker. Excellent Crutchfield service.
Cons: Case is ported which causes a little boomy sound in low midrange. Easy to fix by closing the port if bothersome. AC cord is bright white, just a quibble, would have preferred dark brown--had to find something bad to say..! :)

Close as I could get
philip from Chapel Hill on 4/28/2012
I had an Advent Model 400 that I bought new in 1978. I liked it a lot. One day recently it just died. So 33 and a 1/2 years after I bought the Model 400, I went out and bought the closest thing I could find to it, the Tivoli Audio Model One. I like it. It sounds good and looks classy. If it lasts as long as the Model 400, I'll be very happy.
Pros: Warm, fuzzy nostalgic feel. Nice sound. Costs about the same as the Model 400, 34 years later
Cons: Kloss isn't around anymore to design audio equipment.

Overall a quality product with some limitations
Joe D from Summit, NJ on 4/17/2012
Overall, a solidly built, well-designed and good-looking piece of equipment; nice and simple to use; just plug it in, and for difficult FM stations, just add the supplied antenna.
Pros: Good price, nice design, solidly built; like the aux input for the iPod, and, until it malfunctioned (see "Cons"), the headphone jack
Cons: Sill have trouble getting the local public radio station, unless I'm using the FM antenna, and radio is in one specific spot (and then it's "OK", not great); just recently, noticed that something is obstructing the headphone jack -- plug will no longer go in all the way -- a mystery, since the radio doesn't get moved around.

I'm glad i purchased this radio and may purchase another.
Pros: The radio has good sensitivity & selectivity (at least it picks up two marginal stations here w/o external antenna).
Cons: It would be a little handier if it had preset buttons for oft used stations but I don't often change station so this is no significant problem.

Nice little radio
Crutchfield customer from Lancaster PA on 1/29/2012
This is a great little radio. We have it on the kitchen counter where it takes up little space. The sound is decent and it is super easy to use for my non-techie wife. She easily plays Pandora on her iPhone on this radio.
Pros: Small, very easy to use. Decent sound.
Cons: Not stereo, not high end sound, but the price isn't high end either.

Disappointed
Chris from Old Saybrook, CT on 5/9/2011
I bought this radio for my kitchen, hoping to tune into one of my favorite radio stations (college station, not a strong signal). Based on other reviews, thought the Tivoli would work. But unfortunately it doesn't. Even the stonger NPR stations came in at varying levels. And guess what, when I sat my 10 year old Bose Wave right in the same spot it picked up the station nice and clear. I will say the sound quality equaled the Bose and I loved the compact look. But I returned it based on it not meeting my primary qualification. Back to square one....

A Perfect Fit
Robert from Charlestown, RI on 3/9/2011
We were looking for a small table radio with a real good sound:size factor for our country kitchen. This little bear fit the bill. It blends right in on top of the colonial dry sink and is able to pick up our favorite FM classical & jazz stations located from twenty to forty miles away. The tuner is super sensitive, so you hear some static as you navigate, but once it locks on, the noise disappears. The aux miniplug for the ipod is a nice feature as well, but mostly we just punch it on the FM and let it go most of the day.

Suddenly it's 1970
Clark K from Long Island, NY on 1/27/2011
I was amazed at the quality of construction. This thing is built! The controls have a wonderfull feel, and the cabinet is 1st rate. But using it is very frustrating. The analog dial is difficult to use, when you live in an area with many stations. There's no quick change from one station to another when you don't like the current broadcast. Switching from fm to am requires re-dialing, because the 2 bands share the same tuning dial. There are no tone controls, so you'd better like the factory settings. If you're the type of person who tunes in a station and stays with it, you will probably love the Model 1. I change stations as soon as I don't like the current selection, and if I want the news, I switch from fm to am. Consequently, this radio did not work for me.

Solid (clean) Audio for a Table Radio
Ken D from Passaic Cty, NJ on 11/30/2010
The Tivoli Model One radio was selected to be one of my wife's Christmas Gifts. She enjoys a wide range of music the source of which is our home theater system located in the living room. My wife devotes a lot of her time to working in the kitchen. When not preparing meals, she is preparing her lesson plans using the kitchen table. Our kitchen has recently gone through a major renovation with an old under-cabinet AM/FM/CD Radio/Player put out to pasture. The Model One will be the new source of music for the kitchen and will be placed on our new granite counter top. I selected the Black finish which complements the color of the stone. Other counter top radios were examined before selecting the Tivoli Model One. The Model One, by design, seemed superior to others and was equipped with all of the (necessary) controls one would need, the high fidelity sound notwithstanding. The sensitivity and gearing of the tuning dial is evident and the signal strength indicator is a welcomed feature. Fit and finish of the cabinet and controls appeared to be well above average. Amplifier power was readily noticeable and more than adequate. I know my wife will be thrilled to listen to this fine radio in her kitchen, making the work of preparing meals and her school work much more enjoyable. Also, she will be able to plug-in her iPod which contains all of her FAVS, listening to them through the full-range of the Model One's speaker.
