FM Direct Adapter
Crutchfield customer from Danville, CA on 10/28/2019
The adapter works but......if you need a long wire run for the connection to the cradle for the radio you will be out of luck. You cannot splice the wire. Will work great for normal installations. I managed to connect to the cradle by using 2 separate 4 foot lengths of antenna cable extensions. Overall I am happy with the product and it does what it is intended for. Always buy from Crutchfield for their customer support!
Pros: It works great once connected.
Cons: If you need additional length of cable/wire you will be out of luck. You need to be a little creative in an installation requiring additional length.

I was using a modulator and the radio had to be paired with the frequency of the XM radio. Sometime there was interference or talk over of the XM radio. Now with the FM adapter there is no tuning necessary, no interference just good sounds from the XM radio. Also one can leave the radio on their favorite channel and get to it easily by turning off the XM radio. This has really changed things.

Clean component installation
Crutchfield customer from Falls Church, VA on 7/26/2019
I am very pleased with the care that Crutchfield showed during the installation of my car's satellite radio and key components. The installation of the adapter and mounting bracket.is much cleaner than I could have done and, surprisingly, more reasonable in cost than what I expected. I would happily drive back to C-Ville for the level of service I received from Crutchfield.
Pros: Phenemonal service during all stages of the purchasing process.
Cons: I wish that there was an outlet store, or maybe some sort of Crutchfield verified network of installers closer to where I live.

A must product to be able to hear satellite radio stations clearly . The satellite radio does not come with this . If it was first radio I would not know this existed , but as soon as I opened box I knew I needed it and where to look first . Everyone's favorite, Crutchfield .
Pros: An 8 year old could possibly install with adult close by . Pull antenna out of radio put same antenna in adapter then put adapter in radio. Run other wire to satellite radio and enjoy clear sound
Cons: The radio in vehicle will have to be removed to install and some vehicles has the smaller antenna , I know some GM vehicles have this I don't know on other brands but an antenna adapter may need purchased but worth it

Filters out static and weak radio signals very well. If your car doesn't have the auxiliary adapter this is a great alternative to avoid annoying interference from coming into your radio. I tried using the cassette adapter for my car but that started to not work right after a while.
Pros: Easy installation and easy to use.
Cons: Taking the time to take the bezel and radio apart to install, professional installation is the easy route but another expense. If you like to do car work this is an easy installation.

Pros: Great price and was easy to install in my Dodge Ram Pickup.Didn't have to remove dash trim, just removed (popped out) courtesy light in cup holder, used long and narrow needle nose pliers to remove antenna from back of radio and then inserted adapter jack (antenna plug adapter) into back of radio. Least expensive way to get good sound quality for Sirius Radio. On my 2004 Monte Carlo the install was a breeze, Took 4 minutes at most. Reached up under dash, felt for antenna cable and unplugged it. Then inserted the adapter cable the rest was hooked up. Tucked the extra cables and the box under the console. You do not have to remove the radio! On my 2003 Trail Bazer, you do have to remove the radio. This is done by removing the dash trim panel. The instructions from Crutchfield are fairly good. Also keep track of what screws came from where they came from, there are several different lengths. Take your time and watch for wires you have to unplug to give yourself room to slide the radio out far enough to get to the antenna. If you take the time to fill in your cars info, Crutchfield will send the instuctions and adapter cables you need. Very happy with the system and with Crutchfield.
Pros: Improves sound quality over the FM broadcast system, no need for the FM extender antenna.
Cons: If you have to remove the radio to install, takes longer.

Works okay but....
JL from Connecticut on 11/29/2011

I knew this was what I needed, but going into it I had no idea what was involved. Having taken the time to read as much as I could online, I felt comfortable enough to attempt it rather than pay an installer $250 to put it in for me. The Crutchfield support however was not what I had hoped for. They tout they have all the specs you need and will send you the specific install instructions, yet neither the salesperson I spoke with online, nor the instructions I received, provided any clue how the components were to be hooked up for my vehicle. I spent hours figuring out what went where and installing it, only to discover they did not supply me with an antenna cable that I needed, which pushed my install back to the following weekend. I thought Crutchfield would provide with some type of wiring plan of what part goes where, but not only did that not happen, but then they did not even provide me the parts I needed. The aggravation involved was significant. A simple chart showing how to hook up, for my car, the parts they sent me would have gone a long way, but that was not provded.
Pros: Provided a way to get a decent connection from my FM radio to my Sirius Sportster.
Cons: Install was a pain (see above), and noise feedback. For some reason, if you have your FM radio on a station other than the frequency it uses for your Sirius radio, you get a lot of static. This means to use your FM radio as you normally would, you must first turn off your Sirius radio. It would have been nice to go from a Sirius station directly to another FM station directly, without having to power my Sirius Sportster radio off first everytime.

you need this part
BillW from Houston, TX on 1/30/2011
When installing an "add-on" type satellite receiver in you auto, this is the only way to go for a proper connection. This part should replace the other modulation connection parts and pieces and be included with the receiver kit. My only complaint is: the part should have a 90 degree male connector that plugs into the radio. In my F150, I was unable to push the radio back into the dash due to the plug sticking straight out and hitting the defroster duct behind the radio. I had to modify the stress reliever on the plug to get it to bend enough - this should not have been necessary.

If you have a Siruis radio and are using a wireless connection to your FM radio this product is a MUST. It works GREAT! No more fuzzy connections or constantly switching stations to get better reception. Plus the folks at Crutchfield were a great help. When ordering I came to a point where it said I also needed adapters. It was showing 3. So I didn't know if needed just to pick 1 or all. I called the Crutchfield team and they helped me out. It turned out I needed 2 of the 3 adapters. Installing it in my Cavalier was fairly easy. It just took some time. To get to my radio I needed to take the dashboard off. But Crutchfield supplied specific instructions for my car, with pictures, how to remove the dashboard. Everything went smoothly and its installed and as I said works GREAT. This is an awesome addition to your XM|Sirius radio. If you are using the built in transmitter to broadcast to your car radio, you should get this. If your in your local area and have your in car radio set to the same channel as your XM|Sirius radio, it may work well. When you start to travel and FM stations change, you then have to alter the settings on both radios. This device eliminates the need to change stations and keeps the XM|Sirius radio strong with no static from your car antenna trying to compete with the FM transmitter in the XM|Sirius radio.

Best thing since Sirius itself
justine79 from Indianapolis, IN on 10/15/2009
I have had Sirius for about 4 years now and I have always loved it. But when cruising through the city or riding on the highway alongside a trucker I was always getting more white noise than radio. It was very frustrating. Not to mention when on the road for travel and going in and out of FM frequencies. Sometimes it was more of a pain to listen than anything. This is the bomb. Sounds like when I am listening to my unit at home! Easy as 1-2-3 to install! If you have Sirius and are using wireless transmitter you are not getting what you should from Sirius. Spend the money and install this on your own. You'll wonder how you ever listened to that horrible transmitter that is built in

I have two Sirius radios. The first I bought several years ago and it has always performed exceptionally so I purchased a new one for my wifes car. I installed the Sirius Starmate Radio in her pathfinder and there was so much static that I thought it was bad unit. So I swapped her radio with mine and the Starmate still had the same horrible static in my Jeep. I purchased this FM adapter, installed it, and now everything is crystal clear with ZERO static. The other nice thing is that you dont have to change radio stations because you will never have outside interference ever again! I keep my radio set to my favorite local station and my Sirius Starmate also set to that station. When there is power on my Sirius I get Sirius feed, when I turn it off the FM Adapter goes back to my outside antennae and I get my favorite local radio station. I LOVE THIS! If you own a Sirius Starmate radio then you have to purchase this FM adapter or your radio is worthless.

ordered this for my truck. installed it in 15 minutes. the improvement in sound quality was great and i have had no issues with reception issues since. my wife who had decreased her sirius use due to reception issues was jealous, so i ordered her one as well, installed it with appropriate adaptors in 20 minutes and she once again is loving her sirius radio. the prices with crutchfield for these items was 33% less then the same item locally.

Finally Great Reception!
John from Cranston, RI on 4/21/2008
Anyone remember the clarity of reception they had with the "Sportster 1 or 2"? Well The FCC stepped in and downgraded the FM broadcast capability for the Sportster 4 Sirius units. Sirius tried to put a package together to get clear reception via a FM station with a inside the car antenna contraption. It did not work. Well here is the solution. Clear reception for the "Sportster 4" receiver. Finally crystal clear sound. Don't wait to decide later if you should or should not get it. Buying a Sportster 4 or Starmate 4 - Simple answer GET IT. This is easy to install with the step by step Crutchfield directions. No need to fumble with the terrible antenna contraption that Sirius includes. As usual 100%+ satisfied with Crutchfield.

Made all the difference
Devin from Carlsbad, CA on 1/11/2008

I received a Sirius Sportster receiver as a gift this Christmas. My car stereo has no auxiliary input jack, so my only option was to use the FM transmitter. Unfortunately, the FM transmitter in my Sirius receiver is nowhere near as strong as previous Sirius models. Apparently something to do with FCC regulations. Basically, the sound quality with the standard FM transmitter was so bad (weak signal, lots of interference), I was ready to ditch the whole thing. Then I found this device. After a 30 minute install, I am getting full, crystal clear sound. I was skeptical that it would work this well, but I am now a believer.

Must have for newer Sirius radios
Marshall from Joppa, MD on 11/23/2007
This is a must have if you are buying a sirius radio and your factory radio doesn't have aux. inputs. I replaced my old visor radio that would broadcst an FM signal a block away with a new sirius radio. The radio came with an antenna and suction cups and sounded like an am radio in the basement of a bomb shelter. With this unit installed no more searching for a clear frequency and the sound is great albiet a bit bass heavy which can easily be adjusted. This should come as standard with the new sirius radios since the FEDS made them reduce the FM output.

This is a great solution to the recievers that have the weaker transmitters. I have a starmate replay and was very dissappointed in the sound quality. Stations were being overidden with other fm stations. I spent more time hunting a clear channel. I installed this product and the difference is night and day. The Crutchfield team did a great job assisting me when I ran into a problem with the install. All and all I believe it took 20 to 30 minutes. Great solution. If you have sirius this is a must!

Easy Install, Great Sound
gfzyriek from Memphis, TN on 6/21/2007
2005 Toyota Sequoia with navigation. No cassette deck where I could use adapter and wireless FM modulator did not work; plus those sound horrible. Crutchfield master sheet made install a snap (I'm terrified of taking apart my car's dash so you know where I stand technically). Took me about 20 minutes to install since I was being super careful. Sound is great though a tad bass heavy. Still tinkering with radio frequencies because I get some interference on some "dead" stations but mostly get a great clear signal. This is A MUST BUY !!

Works well for Sirius
Benedict from Indianapolis on 6/16/2007
Unit works great for sirius radio. Problem is now my normal FM channels and AM channels come in much worse. I have reinstalled twice and cannot receive any AM stations. Normally can pick up AM all the way from Chicago. It does work very well if Sirius will be all you are listening to. I'll try reinstalling one more time to make sure factory antenna lead is inserted all the way otherwise I'll probably return and get a head unit with an auxillary input.

This is an excellent product. I travel over 2000 miles each month, taking me through many areas which makes setting one station for my modulator very difficult. With this simple product I now travel worry free, and never have to switch transmit and receive channels, the sound is crystal clear.

When I first installed my sirius starmate I was very disappointed with sound quality. No matter where I tuned FM noise was dominant and annoying.I did some research and found the sirius fm direct adaptor on the crutchfield website. My order came very quik and was very simple to install with the free info and inexpensive stereo removal tool from crutchfield.I turned on my stereo and was amazed with how good sirius sounded now!I never have to switch fm channels while driving to get excellent reception. This little black box is the hot setup!

Poor frequency response
Louie from Arizona on 3/15/2007
2000 Isuzu Trooper
I have the Sirius One plug and play tuner and let me start off by saying that the built in wireless FM transmitter is completely worthless, at least in the Phoenix metro area. I hoped the FM Direct Adapter would solve the transmission problem and it did, but not completely. As all other reviews say, it does eliminate static and interference from other FM broadcasts. However the frequency response is very limited, particularly across the high end. No treble at all when compared to the sound quality of the FM stations. Has anyone else noticed this? It's ironic that the tape adapter (which IMO provides better sound) suffers from a lack of low-end punch -- wish I could combine the two. Another problem is that the Satellite tuner gain cannot be adjusted enough to match that of the FM stations (this is with a 2000 Isuzu factory head unit). I know there is another product for this but why bother. I will be returning the FM direct and buying an aftermarket Sirius head unit.

FM Direct Adapter
Eric from canton, ga on 3/7/2007
Before I bought this, my SIRIUS Sportster 4 radio was always full of static. I had to change stations several times during my commute to work. I installed the FM Direct Adapter last week, and since then, I haven't had to change the station once. Even when went on a 600 mile trip over the weekend, my reception was crystal clear the whole time.

Works great in X-Type
Henri from NJ on 2/23/2007
2002 Jaguar X-Type
I use this in my X-type. Wireless Transmitter worked, but I was getting annoyed by the hissing noise. After I installed this the sound quality is much better. I use it with a strong local station so I don't lose a preset on my radio. When used with a weak station vs. a strong one, I haven't noticed a difference, so I keep it on the strong one. That way when I turn of my Sirius (which never happens) I can listen to that local station. You will need adapters for your X-Type...Crutchfield has them.

So essential, so easy, so great!
robbie from Atlanta, GA on 2/4/2007
After receiving a Sirius S50 player for my car, I had to figure out the perfect way to get the best reception. It seemed that the FM signal could only be picked up whenever I had my hand on the player. As soon as I removed my hand, the signal would be lost and interfering static was very obtrusive and annoying. After getting this product (FM Direct Adapter) from Crutchfield, not only did I get a cheaper price on it than most retailers around my part of town, my satellite radio reception in my car has been pristine! With the included directions from Crutchfield, installation was literally done in less than 10 minutes with my 2002 Nissan Sentra and I really couldn't ask for more, considering places around town were charging $30+ for the adapter and even more money for the installation that, at some places, "would take all day." You just can't go wrong with this product, and getting it from Crutchfield makes it even sweeter! Thanks so much!

Must Have For Any Sirius Receiver
Ilya from Northeast Ohio on 1/28/2007

Must have if you are installing a satellite radio in your car and you do not have AUX input in your car stereo. The reception quality is great, but you have to remember that the FM modualator will not give you full satellite radio quality since it uses FM reciever to relay the signal instead of true direct connection.

From terrible reception to incredible
Garrett from New Orleans, LA on 1/6/2007
1992 GMC K Series
I used this adapter to connect my S50 to my '92 GMC pickup. The S50 without the adapter had terrible reception. I then hooked up the little hanging cord antenna that came with the unit, and that helped a little, but even then the reception was only ok. I then decided to purchase this adapter. I hooked it up today and it works fantastic. I have the factory radio unit in my vehicle, so I can't compare it to CD quality, but if it isn't CD quality, it is really close. I sounds great with the speakers I purchased and installed. I had to buy antenna adapters to plug in the adapter, so it ended up costing me about $40 for the whole package ($10 for each antenna adapter and then the $20 for the Sirius adapter). It was well worth the money. Installation was ok; not extremely easy, but not super difficult either. I had to remove a platic panel below the steering column and remove the ashtray. I had decent access to the stock radio connections that way.

Must have for all Sirius Installs
jimmd36 from New Jersey on 12/9/2006
Like the other poster I had terrible reception. I have a BMW and had no idea how to take out the stereo so I paid $100 to have the modulator and my starmate wired in. The modulator is a MUST have for any sirius install. Quality is 100 times better. have the radio pick up the signal through the air just doesn't work if you are near a city.

If you're thinking about it ..... BUY IT!
James from Nashville, TN on 12/5/2006
I was doubtful at first. How can this little black box improve what I thought was an acceptable listening experience? Is it CD quality? - No. But I really did not realize how much background noise was present using the regular FM transmitter. I used this on an XACT XTR7 in a 2001 Tahoe. This adapter plugs in line between your antenna and the head unit. When the Satellite Radio is switched on, it cuts out the signals received from your antenna. Only the strongest of signals will come through. So tune in to a frequency that is not used in your area and enjoy. Easy to install - I was done in 30 minutes even after battling with the radio. It is too bad that this is not standard equipment with the radio itself. I have had this radio for almost 2 years. Now it feels like it is brand new all over again.

FM Direct Adapter
James from Murray, KY on 11/28/2006
Before purchasing this product, I was disgusted with my Sirius Sportster Replay. I could not tune my factory radio to any station to listen, without horrible static and interference. After purchasing this product, GREAT! NO MORE STATIC! Would recommend this product to anyone wanting Sirius. Installation was simple: Just pulled out factory stereo, plugged wire from fm antenna into the adapter, plugged antenna wire from adapter into factory radio fm input, and plugged the other wire into the Sportster Replay's docking station. About 5 minute intstallation. Thanks Crutchfield, for recommending this much needed fix. NOW I ABSOLUTELY LOVE MY SPORTSTER REPLAY!!!

This solved all my problems for my Sirius Radio
Garnett from New Jersey on 11/7/2006
I was having numerous reception problems with my Sirius Starmate, when using the built in FM transmitter to my radio. Reception was nothing but terrible, lots of static & noise. Living in the NYC/Metro area, its difficult to find an empty frequency. After doing some research on the site here I discovered this adapter. After an informative online chat with one of Crutchfield's helpers, I quickly bought this adapter & installed it. Installation was easy, simply remove the existing antenna that feeds your radio and insert it into the adapters input, re-insert the adapter's output antenna into the antenna jack on your radio and plug the mini connector into the FM Out jack on the Sirius radio. What a difference it made! Installation took a total of 5 minutes, although it was probably made easier due to the fact I already have an aftermarket radio that uses a DIN shell. If you have an aftermarket radio that fits into a DIN shell, installation will be fairly easy. If you have a factory radio it may be a bit more difficult and time consuming. I'm now enjoying much better sound quality as well as noise free reception. As someone else mentioned in another review, this adapter should be included with all Sirius radios. Thanks again Crutchfield!
