Viper VSM550 SmartStart Pro Module

Unit was an easy install after a call to support to verify some wiring. My existing remote starter is from Automate (specifically, the 4115A), who are owned by Directed. Thankfully, so is Viper. If you're like me and spent hours trying to figure out if this VSM550 would work with your Automate unit (for which Directed advertises a compatible DSM550), stop stressing and just order this. The app and commands are responsive, and the unit gets surprisingly decent cell reception, even in the middle of the dead zone I live in. Activation was quick and easy but does require a call to Crutchfield, and you'll have to set up a callback from one of the remote start experts. Once you have the unit installed and powered up with all 3 lights solid, there's no more crawling under the dash to do. Activation is done totally remotely. One downside that most hopefully won't encounter: the power leads built into the unit are pretty short and don't offer a lot of wiggle room if your data and power are in different places. I ended up soldering on my own extensions, and everything works great. Be sure to read the instructions carefully. There are a lot of connectors, but you should only need one (not including power if required)!

Works great the only issue is that it doesn't show run time and it took me three calls to Crutchfield to find the right person to activate it.

Had this professionally installed (I visited a local sound shop near me and they wanted almost double for this module compared to Crutchfield) just thought I'd throw that in there. Cool little upgrade and the added subscription is worth the extra piece of mind in my opinion. No regrets.
Pros: Start your car from anywhere Free Roadside assistance *with added subscription Alerts via push notifications + text + email (all configurable)

Great product! Recently installed on a 2009 Civic and it works great. I can GPS track my car in real time with a detailed satellite map. I am also able to set parameters and speed notifications for other drivers to ensure safety. Overall 10 out of 10 product!

Great security addition
Awesome product! Installation was very easy. I'm using it with a Viper 4706V alarm module. I use this in my enclosed trailer. This helps protect my toys and trailer when I'm not around. Gives me peace of mind. Activating the smartstart module through Crutchfield was very easy. You need them to activate it. Much cheaper than any GPS tracker found on Amazon.

Great addition to Viper alarm

If you already have existing Viper alarm, this should be a very quick and simple install. The only downside is that the module will need to be activated by an authorized dealer, so you will need to call Crutchfield tech support and walk through the activation together. Besides that, everything works as advertised. I can start, lock, unlock, open trunk, and activate the panic feature all from my phone and now you basically have unlimited range.
Pros: Ability to use all the alarm feature using your phone.
Cons: You have to pay for a subscription. Shock warning doesn't notify your phone, only when the alarm is triggered.

Easy to install, took less than 20 minutes. Tech support activated and tested the device in less than 5 mins. The vehicle was inside a metal shop and they had no trouble communicating with it.
Pros: Nice addition to the viper system. It show you on a map exactly where you vehicle is, which was it's moving and how fast. The added remote start functions are icing on the cake.
Cons: Yearly subscription, but it's reasonably priced.
